I notice there was no rating of 0 or -1 available for E5’s throwing accuracy.

Also, apparently Oakland and LAA fans don’t like the internet? 0 votes? cmon, man.

It comes in waves. I just need one team site or blog to come through, and then suddenly we have 15-20 readers who take the time to do this for us.

Don’t worry, I usually find some site, like on SBNation, and they usually come through in a big way.

Here’s the problem with these things:

take a look at Dustin Pedroia:

Exc Good Ave Fair Poor
117 69 22 1 49

Now, we can argue about whether he’s an excellent, or a good fielder, whether he’s a +15UZR guy or a +10, but absolutely no one should be ranking him as a 0-20 on any of the ratings.

Seriously. People have Jose Bautista as a 3.93. Bautista is a below average fielder. They have his as a better defender than several good CF’ers.

Is there a reason that we should believe you, or whoever it is that is choosing to participate?

The Jays fans last year had a similar view to Bautista: pretty much average in everything, but a great arm.

And the Redsox fans last year were much higher on Pedroia than they are this year:
http://tangotiger.net/scout/2010/

There were over 200 Sox fans last year, and 42 so far this year after two days.

I should also note that I haven’t run my “junk ballot” process yet, so who knows, there may be some anti-Pedroia ballots in there that I’m going to cleanup.

If you think that the readers who participate in this ballot is either not representative or lesser qualified than you are, then of course you won’t like the results. Just ignore these results in that case.

At the same time, a reader who thinks they are more qualified than you are will simply ignore your objections.

The point here is that everyone has a voice, and I’m not sure exactly whose voice should be heard the most, so let’s have as many voices as we can get, from places where we all hang out anyway.

I’d guarantee a good chunk of them are junk ballots, and that was my point.

It was easy enough for me to find the junk ballots. I think your criticism came a little early. Best to look back at 2010 and 2009 to get a better sense out of this, rather than looking at the first week’s results in real time pre-cleanup.

Regarding Bautista, I think the 3 throwing categories tend to play to his strengths. But also, he had a very successful stint at 3rd base this year (+5 DRS, +3.5 UZR in a month) which type of thing tends to get noticed and credited in hands, first step and instincts. There is also no category for fly ball routes, which is probably the weakest part of his defensive game.
