Position: Major League Video Assistant

The Oakland A’s are hiring for a full-time Major League Video Assistant to primarily assist Major League Video Department. This position will also provide support for Advance Scouting and Research & Analytics departments. The ideal candidate will seamlessly integrate into the video process, aiding the coaching and video support staff in pre-game and game responsibilities. This position will be primarily based out of Oakland, CA.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead charting, filming, and editing of early work and game video and data feeds
  • Assist in pre-game preparation and assignments for coaching and advance staff
  • Provide video support for players and coaching staff
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Degree from accredited college or university
  • Excellent verbal communication and problem solve IT or other technical issues
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Powerpoint)
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Some level of exposure with BATS, Hawkeye, and/or other video software
  • Playing background at the collegiate level (baseball or softball) or above a definite plus
  • Ability to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Some travel required (Arizona or elsewhere)

Position: Baseball Operations Intern

The Oakland Athletics are hiring for a full-season Baseball Operations Intern for the 2022 Season. Ideal candidates will have a strong passion for baseball and be flexible in their responsibilities. Interns will work closely with both the Analytics and Scouting departments. Full Season Internships will take place from February through October. Candidates must be able to relocate to Oakland, California.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in MLB First-Year player draft preparation
  • Assist in INTL player admin and data processing
  • Explore and create new data sets
  • Provide insights on new data sets and present findings in a way that is understandable to a broad range of audiences
  • Data entry and cleaning from ETL feeds
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Candidates are ideally enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student at an accredited college/ university or have equivalent military experience. Recent graduates also may be considered.
  • Previous work experience in the baseball industry or research demonstrating an interest in baseball (e.g. blogs, research papers, etc.).
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent verbal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Pursuing degrees or having substantial coursework in a quantitative field (i.e. Statistics, Math, CS, etc.).
  • Advanced Excel skills (specifically the ability to work with and manipulate data).
  • Intermediate SQL or relational database skills.
  • Experience with R, Python or equivalent statistical programming language is a plus but not necessary.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Position: Advance Scouting Intern

The Oakland A’s are hiring for a full-season Advance Scouting Intern to assist the Advance Scouting Department for the 2022 season. This position crosses into the intersection of several fields (Baseball Operations, Player Development, Video, Research & Analytics). The ideal candidate will seamlessly integrate into the advance work process, aiding the coaching and video support staff in pre-game and game tasks for the duration of the 2022 season. Full Season Internships will take place from February through October. Candidates must be able to relocate to Oakland, California.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in pre-game preparation and assignments for coaching and advance staff
  • Perform ad-hoc queries for coaching and video staff, and front office as needed
  • Help chart, film, and clip early work and game video and data feeds
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Degree from accredited college or university
  • Demonstrated quantitative background, either by degree or work sample (SQL, R, Python, Tableau, or other programming language)
  • Excellent verbal communication and problem solve IT or other technical issues
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Powerpoint)
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Playing background at the collegiate level (not limited to baseball or softball) or above a definite plus
  • Ability to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Some travel required (Arizona or elsewhere)
