Gnats = nationals. It just goes to show you the phenomenal psychological effect that comparing a group of professional athletes to tiny insects has on perceptions.
Gnats refers to the Giants, not the Nationals.
And here I thought he meant the Giants. Whoops! That wouldn’t have made very much sense!
Gnats is a nickname for the Giants, at least among A’s fans.
Maybe even odder, it never occurred to me that Gnats could refer to Giants until seeing the comments. Living in DC will do that to you, I guess. I hereby propose banning Gnats from Fangraphs lexicon to avoid the unwieldy.
Btw, in this corner, you still have much unused goodwill from the ‘This is a ‘who-says-no’ about Emilio Buonofacio’ line from several chats ago.
Gnats is a nickname for Giants even among Giants fans. I assumed the questioner was legitimately asking about the Giants and not illegitimately asking about the Nats.
My mind read it as Giants. I didn’t even catch the typo until reading the comments.
