Job Posting: TrackMan Internship
Join our team as an Analytics/Operations Intern for TrackMan Baseball, a US based sports technology firm. You will take on a critical role in a small, fast moving entrepreneurial company that is breaking new ground in sports.
In this position, you will primarily be responsible for reviewing TrackMan data from a significant number of MLB, Minor League baseball and NCAA stadiums during the 2014 baseball season. You will also have the opportunity to perform statistical analysis as directed.
The internship starts in mid-February and wraps up at the conclusion of the Major League baseball season.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Excellent knowledge of baseball
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work well with others
DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Statistics, Mathematics or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of databases, SQL, and R statistical software
- Experience working with large baseball related data-sets.
- Python or other scripting language experience is a plus.
This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to break into the baseball community and get experience with data available exclusively to professional baseball teams. Full training is provided and you’ll have the opportunity to work closely with all members of the TrackMan staff and interface with our partner teams. Weekend availability is important.

With the qualifications they’re asking for they had better be offering compensation… And honestly this is probably still 50% under market rate. The baseball premium at work.
I am actually close to most of the requirements, only thing i don’t have is my bachelor yet oh well. Maybe in a few years.

yah but the question is how much does this delay my degree if its over the summer then definately but if it bleeds into the spring and fall semester i doubt my parents would approve.

Sigh. This is one of my dream jobs. Alas, I’ve piled up a lot of debt pursuing one of my other dream jobs, and $12.50 an hour won’t pay the student loans :-/
I had the chance to meet with this team out in the AFL. Josh & the crew are top notch guys and watching the Rising Stars game with them & seeing their data on live stream with Eno was very enjoyable.

as a guy who works in the sports industy (on the business side) i assure you theyll have no problem. its sports. people will settle.
I get that *somebody* will settle…but all the CS people I know were getting twice that in the summers before they graduated, so they’re really thinning the pool by being so stingy. I have to imagine they’d lose out most top talent to Google/FB/Microsoft-type places offering 80k and benefits, and another round of talent to startup dreams of millions.
Still, beats unpaid internships.

$12.50 per hour is $26k/year. That is more than double the Federal poverty line for a single individual. …it’s also less than what I got for a stipend as a grad student (where they expect you to take a vow of poverty in order to gain the qualification)… ….accepting such a position is basically a gamble that the experience gets you a proper job down the line. I wonder what the likelihood is that this position leads to something? Is it worth the gamble if you’ve already got marketable skills?
Does anybody no of a remote internship for a 16 year old high school student/sabermetric junky? I know it’s a longshot but thanks
Thanks for the comments. Strong knowledge of baseball and Excel are the requirements for the job. Anything above that is a plus. Trackman intern alumni include a full-time employee of an MLB front office, an intern for an MLB baseball ops department and two full-time employees with Trackman Baseball.
