I think you force Chapman to start because he could be a lot more valuable as a starter. Closers can’t ever be worth 4.5 wins. Starters can be worth 6+ wins.

If Chapman has some success, then his opinion about being a closer will probably change.

If he can’t hold his velocity into the 5th/6th innings, you can always throw him back into the bullpen. Unless you’re certain that he can’t hold up physically as a starter, you need to make him start.
