Great tunes — love it!! Seeing the Pink Floyd album in the background, RIP Storm Thorgerson.
Glad you enjoyed it! My two best scouting trips have both been to Asheville. Such a great city to hang out in.
“I was the first to post a negative report on him. Starling has done nothing to really change that. I’m hearing other prospect writers are coming over to my side, but I don’t have time to read what others are saying.”
Do you realize how much of an ass this makes you sound? From following your chats, I don’t think that to be true. But, seriously? Do you really think you were the *first* guy to post a negative report on Starling? And, if you really believe that, do you really feel the need to actually say that? Just a weird answer among a bunch of good answers.
Not your finest moment, Mike.
CabreraDeath,
A couple of things. First, you have a point. I definitely could have worded that better. However, it’s important to understand this is a rapid fire chat format. It’s difficult to manage content AND tone for 90-minutes without a statement being received the wrong way. It’s bound to happen.
With Starling, I wrote about how much he disappointed last August and should not be included in top-100’s. I took some heat for that.
Every major top-100 included him in their rankings this spring. I’m wrong quite a bit and will be the first to admit it, but I kind of thought my being out front on Starling was accepted. My fault if it’s not.
As for the, “not having time to read anybody else.” It’s not out of disrespect. I have respect for a number of writers. I text back and forth with other prospect writers and none of us have the time to read each other — Especially when out scouting.
For example, I purchased MILB.tv to keep up with guys out of my area and haven’t had the chance to use it yet. There just aren’t enough hours in the day for me to do everything I want to in baseball.
I don’t see why he should avoid saying it. I remember being shocked when Mike gave Bubba Starling such a bad review, because no one else in “the industry” was negative on him at all at the time.
That’s how I remember it, but I could be wrong. I don’t keep close enough tabs to be certain.
Wow, this format is just really hard to read. Mike, can you use the format that Dave and Eno used to post their chat content instead? That one is hard enough to deal with, but this one is just impossible.
You are right. I’m checking into it. I followed the same instructions, but it didn’t work like theirs did.
I met Keith Law briefly at the winter meetings in Dallas and he sent me an email which I thought was really cool since I’m just a grad student. Then I saw him in Nashville this year and he actually remembered who I was and we talked a little. He seems like a really nice guy.
