One Night Only: Hot Game Previews for May 24th

Arizona’s Josh Collmenter is among the league leaders in Capital-J Joy.

This edition of One Night Only contains:

1. Expanded previews for three games: Arizona at Colorado, Boston at Cleveland, and Toronto at New York (AL),

2. Pitcher and Team NERD scores for every one of tonight’s games.

3. More images than usual, so’s to distract the reader from a lack of actual content.

Rockies: Jhoulys Chacin (7)
60.0 IP, 7.80 K/9, 3.30 BB/9, .236 BABIP, 59.2% GB, 13.3% HR/FB, 3.18 xFIP, 86 xFIP-

A Brief Programming Note
This is the second game of a doubleheader, the first leg of which begins at 15:10 ET.

Some Brief Other Kind of Notes
• Collmenter’s FIP up there uses 3.00 as the constant, is one thing to mention.
• Which, that’s lower than in past years, but also probably appropriate for the current run environment.
• Another thing is, because of his low ground-ball rate, Collmenter’s xFIP over those two starts would probably be something like 4.00.
• Still, it’s hard to argue that Josh Collmenter is anything less than the manifestation of Joy.
• Capital-J Joy, I tell you!

Boston (5) at Cleveland (10) | 19:05 ET

Red Sox: Josh Beckett (7)

Indians: Fausto Carmona (6)
64.1 IP, 5.60 K/9, 2.66 BB/9, .265 BABIP, 58.8% GB, 11.3% HR/FB, 3.79 xFIP, 97 xFIP-

A Graph of Cleveland’s Attendance This Season
You read One Night Only and all you got was this crappy graph:

Toronto (8) at New York Americans (7) | 19:05 ET
Starting Pitchers
Blue Jays: Ricky Romero (8)
58.0 IP, 8.84 K/9, 3.10 BB/9, .257 BABIP, 55.8% GB, 14.0% HR/FB, 3.01 xFIP, 77 xFIP-

Yankees: CC Sabathia (7)

What Happened Yesterday
Yesterday, Eric Simon of Amazin Avenue conducted a totally scientic and unbiased poll.

What Was in the Poll
These four photographs:

What Else Was in It
This question: Which Yankee has the stupidest face?

Who’s Winning, As of Press Time
Joba Chamberlain, with 42% of the vote.

A Choice Comment Regarding Mark Teixeira from that Post
He looks like a moronic horse which has just been asked to explain the Bernoulli effect without using the word “neigh.” (Link.)

Also Playing
These games are very likely playing at some kind of sporty channel near you.

I’m never reading another One Night Only until this is rectified.

Jose Bautista saturation is about as possible as Ralph Wiggum failing english. And to quote Ralph Wiggum on the subject “Me fail english? That’s unpossible”

I’m pretty sure Jose Bautista Saturation is a fatal condition that affects only the unluckiest of individuals. I, for one, hope I may never have to experience such a morbid fate.

You need to toss in a FD stat when you mix those numbers in. Funky Delivery. Say what ya want about his numbers major leaguers are having a very hard time finding the ball with his overhead throwing motion. Nomo and Dontrell won the roy with deceptive deliveries and it took the league years to catch up to them.

Ricky Romero is pretty good eh?

You can’t add a FD stat, because that would lower Doc’s rating from 10.

Carson –

I really think you need to exempt Livan from your pNerd formula so that his insanely awesome curveball is appreciated as much in his score as it should be by baseball nerds who appreciate 58 mph strikeouts. Any love for Livan????

Collmenter is actually pitching the first game of the d’backs-rockies doubleheader (switched with saunders just before the game)
