Welcome (Again) to FanGraphs+
It’s time for the annual refresh of FanGraphs+!
Let’s call it a refresh, because if you pay $5.99 for FanGraphs+, you get access to our articles for ESPN Insider for a full calendar year. And buying now also gives you access to all the FG+ research and pieces from past years.
But it’s also a big moment, because we’ve worked on 1200+ player caps for you, to help you prepare for the upcoming season. And yes, with that many player caps, there are plenty of fun ones, full of snark and celebration, just waiting for that random day you decide to look up Cody Ransom’s stats.
And, thanks to the hard work of our in-house analysts, we have the stable of long research pieces that form the ‘annual’ portion of FanGraphs+. Take a look at the table of contents:
- Top Fantasy Prospects By Position by Marc Hulet
- The Fringe Five: Baseball’s Most Compelling Fringe Prospects by Carson Cistulli
- Positional Scarcity Isn’t A One-Time Study by Blake Murphy
- Using a Hitter’s Batted Ball Splits to Build a Hybrid Platoon by Bradley Woodrum
- Can Old players Rejuvenate Flagging Stolen Base Totals? by Jason Collette
- Playing Platoons for Perked Up Production by Chad Young
- When Do You Know if it is Collusion? by Michael Stein
- Looking For the New Ben Zobrist by Jeff Zimmerman
- ottoneu Auction Values by Chad Young
- Applying Hitter Volatility Research to Fantasy Baseball by Brad Johnson
- Predicting Home Runs Per Fly Ball, The Next Step by Mike Podhorzer
Last but not least, we have a deal that might make FG+ even more attractive to your wallet — If you buy FG+ with The Hardball Times Annual together here and now, you get the two for a very reasonable $16.99.
And, if you’re lucky or quick on the draw — Carson Cistulli will be giving one FG+ subscription away every day this week at 1pm ET.
With a phone full of pictures of pitchers' fingers, strange beers, and his two toddler sons, Eno Sarris can be found at the ballpark or a brewery most days. Read him here, writing about the A's or Giants at The Athletic, or about beer at October. Follow him on Twitter @enosarris if you can handle the sandwiches and inanity.
last year there was no FanGraphs+ profile for Kevin Slowey. I hope 2014 resolves this grievous error.
For those of you, like me, looking for an answer to this question, I encourage you to pay the damn $6 and find out for yourselves. The answer may surprise you.
1222 player caps… Slowey was a lock.
Is there a good way to give an FG+ subscription to someone as a gift?
Seriously, this is a fantastic resource, and I’d love to gift a subscription to my professor. He’d really appreciate it.
Maybe help you get a good grade, huh?
I prefer Fangraphs- because it puts the average blog in the denominator
This is one of my favorite comments ever.
I can’t remember – do people in Ottoneu leagues get access to FG+?
no
Any way you could bring back the previous years player profiles? I always liked comparing them to see how opinions of players have changed over the years.
I actually set things back to the way they used to be. You can customize how you see this in your custom stats profile: http://www.fangraphs.com/profile.aspx
Thank you!
Worth it just for the auction values. Any discounts for those who purchased the THT Annual in November?
Discounts? Are you kidding? What do you need an extra 60 cents for?
And for people like me, who hate fantasy, it’s still a good value! Lots of interesting pieces throughout the year.
So happy its not 6$.
Please take my money!!! Thanks Fangraphs for all the awesome work you do. I honestly don’t care about Fangraphs+ but I will gladly take the opportunity to hand over a couple bills to the best website on the internet!
Fangraphs+ is great information too still. I bought it last year, and I can’t see myself not buying it for the foreseeable future. I do agree with your motive though. I bought the service mainly as a “thank you, take my money as a notion of gratitude”, but the content they gave back makes think I have to re-give money to offset it again.
Would love to see this available in an app. FanGraphs is not very mobile-friendly and the iPhone app is outdated in both design and features. Appreciate all these features and the work involved!
I don’t know what mobile phone you use, but I have had no problems on my Blackberry and Samsung. On the S3 it is divine.
I would love to be able to look at depth charts for example on the app.
Excellent work as always, happy to support FG.
Do we get a monthly case of beer, curated by you fine writers and lovingly packed in hops, corks, and similarly themed packing? Am I at the correct *graphs?
Kidding, and of course I’m buying.
I did it! I feel good, and I knew that I would.
Always glad to support, but is there a place to report typos/grammatical errors in the player caps? I’ve only glanced at a few players, but currently you talk about Daniel Murphy’s breakout 2014 SB total and call Morneau a “force one” that I’m pretty sure is not intentional.
I’ll get those. Me on twitter (@enosarris) or enosarris @ hotmail works too. Thanks!
Eno uses hotmail what a webmail hipster
Eno’s a shill
I was expecting to see a pic of the absurdly coiffed Eno Sarris when I clicked that link. What’s up with that?
Do we get full article text in an RSS feed with this?
The 2013 player profiles tipped the scales for me in keeping a reasonably priced Chris Davis & a low priced Alex Rios. That advice alone was well worth the $5.
Yeah I just wish that this came out before Ottoneu keeper deadlines
Will there be $ values for Steamer projections? I believe there were last year on the projections leaderboard…
Any possibility there could be a separate subscription, perhaps for, say, three American dollars, for those of us who already subscribe to Insider and just want player caps?
