The 2017 FAN Projection ballots are now open!
Before you can project any players, you’ll have to select the team you follow most closely towards the top of the screen. If you really don’t follow a team, just pick one. You’ll only have to do this once.
After you’ve selected a team, there are 9 categories for pitchers and 10 categories for position players. Pick the values in the drop-down boxes closest to what you think the player will do in 2017, hit the submit button and you’re done! If you made a mistake, you can always go back and change your selection at any time.
Please note that everything this year is a rate stat. You’re projecting 2B+3B, HR, SB, and Fielding as a measure of 150 games (basically a full season). The player’s previous stats are shown per 150 games in the projection ballot too. This will make changing playing time projections much easier as you’ll only have to change the games played portion.
That’s really all there is to it. You can filter players by team, or if you go to the player pages, you can project players individually. If you want to see all the players you’ve projected, you can click on the “My Rankings” button which will show you only what you specifically projected a player to do.
Fan Projections will show up on the player pages after there have been 5 ballots submitted.

I wish we could project things like babip, iso and Bsr instead of average, XBH and stolen bases, and deduce the latter from the former instead of the other way around. I’m much more comfortable projecting a babip than a BA, since I’ve started to think of the standard slash line as being derived from the underlying metrics like K%, BB%, BABIP, and HR/ISO (though I suppose I really should include HBP in there as well).
If you wanted to get really fancy you could create a system to let us project whichever stats we want, and then automatically deduce the blank ones from the filled in ones, so that people can do it whichever way they prefer. That’d be a lot of work though lol
Actually, same argument for “I’d like to be able to project PAs instead of Gs, please”. For instance, Javy Báez racked up 142 Gs and only 450 PAs, vs (e.g.) Fowler’s 125G/551 PA (lineup spot also plays a role of course). Projecting the PA count instead of of Gs is way more informative (and having all the rate stats as per 600 PA instead of 150 G would be more in line with common practice among the wider sabermetric world, including FanGraphs).
We actually calculate plate appearances based off games and batting order. Nothing in the back end is calculated via games. Also, the idea behind these is for anyone to be able to make a quick projection on a player. What people consider is easiest to actually grasp in terms of playing time can certainly be debated.
