maybe this is stupid but how about this for a series rotation?

game one: sabathia vs wilson
game two: pettitte vs lewis
game three: burnett vs lee
game four: sabathia vs hunter
game five: hughes vs wilson
game six: pettitte vs lewis
game seven: sabathia vs lee

from the yankees standpoint it has to look better than what they did. i know its a moot point now, but what does anyone else think about this set up? games 1 and 4 definitely give advantage to the yanks, and they give up game 3, but games 2, 5, and 6 seem even enough or favor the yanks, and then you get sabathia in game 7. its two (semi)guaranteed wins against one (semi)guaranteed loss with 4 that can go either way. has to be better than giving up (semi)guaranteed losses in games 3, 4, and 7 right?

Yeah, I thought Girardi made a big mistake in not pitching Pettitte in game two. I thought it was key for the Yankees to go up 2-0 before Lee ever pitched. Also Pettitte might only get one game start if the Rangers win game 6.

Also, it goes to show how deceptive/pointless W-L records are. Hughes’ 18-8 record is greatly attributed to his major league leading 6.8 runs per game run support. He had a 102 era+, 4.19 era and a 2.4 WAR this season. It’s a solid season but his 2.4 WAR ranks 64th in the Majors this season. Do you think Girardi would have started him had his record more accurately reflected the way he pitched? Do you think he would have started him in game two with a 12-10 record? No Way, the NY media would have killed him.

Also, what’s gotten lost in the main-stream media is how good Colby Lewis was this year. Lewis had a 4.4 WAR this year which ranked him tied for 18th overall in the majors this year.
