Application Update
After announcing on Friday that we’re hiring, you guys responded with some significant enthusiasm. We received hundreds of applications over the weekend, and they continue to come in at a pretty steady rate. Applications will continue to be accepted this week, though we may reach a point in the not too distant future where we’ll have to cut it off just to keep the workload of going through them all somewhat manageable. We want to give each application a legitimate review, and given how many we’ve received, that’s going to take some time.
We’ll attempt to make the process as efficient as possible, but it will likely take us a week or two to get through all of the applications. You almost certainly won’t hear anything in the next few days, but don’t take that as bad news – we’ll be getting in touch with those we’re interested in following up with once we’ve gone through the whole stack.
If you haven’t applied yet (and are planning to), I’d encourage you to do so sooner than later.
Dave is the Managing Editor of FanGraphs.
I’ll get right on that.
Does being young disqualify you?
Does being old?
Not legally.
Great, that’s what this site needs, more amateurs who grew up on Baseball America and have no writing skills but know how to use a calculator
As opposed to pro’s who grew up on RBI’s and can use flowery language to convey nothing at all?
I don’t think that is what they are hiring. Organizations like FG make good hires. They don’t just hire anyone. That’s like saying “that’s all the White Sox need, another Cuban defector who can’t walk” when they go scouting Latin American players
The quality of the writing doesn’t agree with your post Jeffrey. There’s way too many generic articles that do nothing but regurgitate stats. I can look up data on the website myself, thank you. FG needs to focus on hiring professional writers with actual insight, and not just any geek who loves baseball.
I disagree; I just think theyre focusing on writing you dont have a particular interest in. FG, like the site I work for (The Hardball Times), has a lot of diverse writing. There’s historic, modern, fantasy, “news”, items of interest, items of humor, etc. Your complaint just says you want tags to help you sort the articles, but I do not think it’s fair to attack all the writers here because you do not yourself like all the articles.
Won’t be applying, but went through the application process for numerous places in my lifetime and wanted to say kudos to whoever is in charge of this for you guys.. You almost never get “Application Updates” from an employer, let alone a non-machine-generated blog post that gives you timetables. Sounds like a great place to work.
Agreed.
I’d apply, but ….you….can’t…handle… the…truth!!! I’m sorry, did I break your concentration?? What’s is the average velocity of an unladen swallow?? I could have been a contender…
All the cool stuff has already been written.
An African or European Swallow?
Fangraphs readers can expect my six-part series, “Statistical Measurements Which Prove the Superiority of Cricket,” beginning this offseason!
One part for every ball in an over, if I’m not mistaken.
