when is Matt harri hitting the DL officially? i need to stash him

Jason Collette: Those moves usually don’t happen until the final days of camp

12:02
Comment From Los
For this year only: I have XB @ SS, Longoria @ 3B, and Abreu @ UTIL. Should I have Headley or Brad Miller for upside/bench role.

Jason Collette: Headley for certainty, Miller for upside

Carlos Martinez and Yordano Ventura: which logs the most IPs as a starter this season? Which (or both) do you prefer in a dynasty, keep-forever format?

Jason Collette: Ventura, in both cases. Heard some positive reports on Martinez this morning in talking with Cards folks here in Kissimmee as he’s working on his approach vs lefties.

12:04
Comment From Marty
what are your thoughts on Texiera? Don’t think you mentioned him in the sleeper and bust podcast.

Jason Collette: .240/22/75 is my projection for him. Until he decides to give up pulling the ball to beat the shift, he’s capped .

12:04
Comment From Marty
Do you think Corey Hart will hit 20+ HRs?

Jason Collette: I will take the under on that. His career road splits are not good, and the ballpark is tougher on RH batters.

12:05
Comment From Bo Porter
From a fantasy standpoint, do you expect Jose Altuve and Jonathan Villar to regress, improve or stay around the same in 2014?

Jason Collette: I see more chance of regression than I do improvement., less so with Altuve.

12:05
Comment From Open Air Stadium Enthusiast
I hate getting rained on in the Summer heat, but I’ll be damned if I ever admit it!

Jason Collette: Gooooood, let the outdoor hate flow through you. Welcome to the dark side

12:06
Comment From jocephus
what/who are you looking forward to see in the cards/stros game?

Jason Collette: Wacha/Cosart start the game so that will be fun. Foltynewicz, De Leon, and Fields relieve Cosart. Want to see how De Leon’s splitter works in a game and how Fields commands his fastball.

12:07
Comment From Cards123
Does M. Carpenter repeat? Should we expect regression?

Jason Collette: The BA w/RISP is going to be tough to repeat, but he’ll score plenty of runs and hit for average. Love the skills

12:07
Comment From Brog
Have you seen or heard anything regarding Austin Wilson this spring? Anything to suggest getting away from Standford might lead to some significant offensive development? Thanks!

Jason Collette: I have not, but Eno is tuned in on him so hit him up

12:08
Comment From Los
Thoughts on Ervin to the Braves?

Jason Collette: Best landing spot possible on a one-year deal. Better run environment thn the AL East destinations and if he can continue the high GB% he had last year, he will benefit from the defensive on the infield (away from 2B). The fact they have to replace Medlen and likely now Beachy really sucks .

12:09
Comment From David
is there anything that can affect your LOB%?

Jason Collette: Yes, changing your mechanics while pitching in the stretch. See Jeremy Hellickson 2011-2012 vs Hellickson 2013. #KillTheSlideStep

12:10
Comment From Guest
what ar you thoughts on Drew Hutchison?

Jason Collette: The same as they are for all young Toronto pitchers, PLEASE STAY HEALTHY. I like what I saw of him in the AFL, but damn does Toronto have a tough time keeping their starting pitchers healthy.

12:11
Comment From mother
You’re seeing Springer, what are your thoughts? Have they changed since seeing him live vs. just looking at the numbers?

Jason Collette: I’ve only seen him in one game and it was one plate appearance. Check back with me in a podcast comment. No chat next Friday for me as I’ll be in NYC for Tout Wars.

12:11
Comment From Yordano Ventura
Can people start trusting me as a viable fantasy option this season? What’s my ceiling in 2014?

Jason Collette: Muy alto. How about a Chris Archer 2013 season?

12:12
Comment From Marty
Eno’s got Puig at around .270, I like him around .285/.290, what do you think?

   Jason Collette: .280 for me

12:13
Comment From Guest
Does Qualls start off the season as Astros closer and does he end up leading the team in saves?

Jason Collette: I say yes and yes. He has the experience and he has the best skills of the healthy pitchers in camp. He reworked his delivery last year to get back to his old stuff and the old slider is back, not the one he kept hanging out over the plate to get crushed.

12:13

Outlook on Adam Eaton? Worth $5/$260 12 team mixed 5 outfielders.

Jason Collette: Yes, team loves him and I personally feel AZ gave up too early on him.

12:13
Comment From Grady Sizemore
Am I fantasy relevant this season?

Jason Collette: It would be a great baseball story if you were able to come back from your struggles, but I’m taking the under.

12:15
Comment From Tim
Can you explain why wOBA is better metric than OPS?

Jason Collette: done here – http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-joy-of-woba/ . All OPS’s are not created equally

12:15
Comment From Perry
Who had the slowest major league fastball that you can remember? Late Career Moyer?

Jason Collette: Moyer, for a non-knuckleballer. Maybe Doug Jones as a reliever.

12:16
Comment From Sin-Shoo Choo
In terms of the American League, I will finish as a top-5, top-10 or top-20 OF this season?

   Jason Collette: Top 7

12:17
Comment From JBizzy in T.O.
You ever been to a game @ the Rogers Centre in Toronto when the Dome is closed? Brutal.

Jason Collette: Yes, Mothers Day weekend 2007. Went to a game on Mothers Day vs Devil Rays when Jae Seo pitched (jealous?) and froze with the roof open. Next night saw Jesse Litsch make his major league debut with the roof closed from a skybox. Loved it.

12:17

Projections for J. Abreu this year?

   Jason Collette: .270, 32/90.

12:18
Comment From hooha
What do you expect from Kevin Gaussman this year? Do you think he can / will break camp with the O’s?

Jason Collette: I don’t think he will. I think he goes to Triple-A to get his reps in the rotation down there. Love his future, but his immediate opportunity is clouded.

12:18
Comment From GSon
Do the Braves now set their sights on a deal for another SP, Samardzija from the Cubs. Others?

Jason Collette: If they do deal for another guy, I would expect them to look for depth at the back end and watch the waiver wire as the players who are out of options are dealt with by teams. Zack Britton for the O’s would be worth watching and the Cubs have 11 guys out of options.

12:19

What’s the earliest I can draft Billy Hamilton in a 15-teamer?

   Jason Collette: After pick 60

Which factor will be more significant for Archie Bradley’s callup: service time or development (command, especially)?

   Jason Collette: Development and command.

It’s nice in here, isn’t it?

Jason Collette: Too much sun here in Kissimmee for me today. I’m hiding in the shade while doing this.

Comment From Guest
How do you think Mark Ellis fits with STL’s lineup this season? Loss of Beltran will hurt, so who will protect Holliday, (or who will he protect)?

Jason Collette: Ellis was a great signing as an insurance policy for Wong at 2B. They make for a very clean platoon there and Ellis can take a bit more time if Wong struggles early.

12:21
Comment From Sir Wrigley
Does Mike Olt get regular at-bats at any point this year?

Jason Collette: Yea, I think he gets >250 this season. He has looked good in AZ, and 3B isn’t exactly loaded with roadblocks for him at the big league level.

12:22
Comment From Dallas
Is it fair to be concerned that the Atlanta Coaching staff is not handling their young arms properly? So many injuries can’t be just a coincidence.

Jason Collette: I was having this conversation with 2 other people yesterday. It’s really strange to see the level of issues they’ve had, but don’t know how much you put on the training/development and/or prior history of the kids. They draft a lot of kids fro the southeast who play baseball year round and there are only so many bullets in an arm. That’s my theory, for now, until we get a better look into it.

12:23
Comment From Allen
Chances that Carlos Carrasco becomes a solid contributor this year?

Jason Collette: Eno thinks so. We talked about him on the fantasy podcast a few weeks ago and Eno likes that all of his pitches have positive run values. I remain skeptical, but intrigued.

12:24
Comment From Jays fan
Assuming he lands a rotation spot, will Drew Hutchison provide value in deep mixed leagues?

Jason Collette: Dickey is the only Jays starter I will draft in the active phase of a mixed league draft.

12:24

Better bet for this year and career: Wisler or Stroman?

Jason Collette: I’m on that Stroman bandwagon. Love what I see and hear from him.

12:25
Comment From CJ
Thoughts on Jorge Alfaro?

Jason Collette: He’s a beast. Saw him in the AFL and he put on a show during BP for the Rising Stars game and was throwing lasers to second base that looked top notch until Austin Hedges unleased his kraken.

12:26
Comment From Dallas
Can Choo be expected to improve with the move to Texas? He was already in a good hitting park.

Jason Collette: He’ll be helped by a MUCH better hitter behind him that can help move him around the bases w/o the use of an early sac bunt.

12:27
Comment From RotoLando
Have you ever tried to take advantage of a platoon in fantasy? How did it work out? Is it worth the effort?

Jason Collette: Yea, I have Matt Joyce on a team every season. I watch the schedule carefully and make sure he’s on the bench in weeks when the team has multiple LH starters.

12:28
Comment From Chaco
How much better would the Reds be if they hit Votto leadoff and Bruce 3rd?

Jason Collette: I’d like to see a lineup of Hamilton-Votto-Phillips-Bruce-Ludwick

Hi Jason. Who do you prefer in standard 5 x 5 for this season – Adam Eaton or Leonys Martin? I am looking at all categories, but more so stolen bases and average. Thanks

   Jason Collette: Anthony Rendon

12:34
Comment From Johhny
What do you see from Sonny Gray this year? I’m finidng it hard to not be irrational after his postseason.

Jason Collette: I’ve said it a few times – he’s my dark horse Cy candidate. So, if you’re irrational, what does that make me?

12:35
Comment From Brant Parsons
The attention in the offseason has been on Alexander Guerrero but Dee Gordon seems to be the front-runner at this point of spring. Who do you think gets the most games at 2B for the Dodgers?

Jason Collette: Guerrero, eventually. Gordon still can’t hit. He gloves better and obviously runs, but that bat is still a toothpick in his hands.

12:35
Comment From Average Sports Fan
I get that Billy Hamilton is really fast. But how much faster is he than any of the other really fast guys?

Jason Collette: I’d give any other runner a 2-step lead to first and Hamilton still beats them out.

Any thoughts to share about the Cubs 1B/DH prospect Vogelbach?

Jason Collette: Go on twitter and tweet a @srqman89 and tell him you think Vogelbach is the best player in the world. He is a DH waiting to happen

Comment From madsoxfan
Is Patrick Corbin more likely to be the pitcher in 2014 that he was in the first half of 2013 or the second half? If it’s somewhere in between, which half do you see him leaning towards.

Jason Collette: I lean more toward a happy medium. A lot of his success is predicated on getting batters to chase his slider so he has to get ahead to increase his odds of success.

12:38
Comment From Tom
I have the first pick in my draft. 12 team. I’m planning to take Miggy with my first pick, then a SP (Waino, Felix, Strasburg) with my second. Who should I take with my third?

   Jason Collette: Jesus Guzman

12:39
Comment From Thomas
Wacha, Miller, Cingrani, Gray, Salazar and Wheeler all were throwing gas (Four Seam/Two Seam) upwards of 65% of the time last year. Were they this fastball dependent in the minors Or was this them just throwing what they were most comfortable with their first year up in the show?

Jason Collette: They were throwing their best pitches and having success with it. Cingrani and Gray are already working on other pitches, which are good signs.

12:40
Comment From The Dude
In a ten team league, how high would you pop Jose Abreu?

Jason Collette: I took him 96th overall in a 10 team league the other day.

12:41
Comment From James
Does Mark Appel have any fantasy impact this year? Where would you take him in a Dynasty league?

Jason Collette: I’d take him high in a dynasty league, but I don’t see him having too much of an impact this year. On field chatter this morning with Astros folks said they feel he can get to the bigs this year, but don’t know how deep he can go into games right away

12:42
Comment From TF
Danny Salazar, Seems like he has the stuff to really succeed in majors. Will his command/control be enough to let them play up to their ridiculousness?

Jason Collette: He has to have more confidence in his secondary stuff when behind in the count. He threw as many non-fastballs when down in the count last season that you and I did. Would love to see him pitch backwards from time to time.

12:42
Comment From Crispy
Any chance for Chris Davis to regress completely to his Texas Ranger days? Brady Anderson redux?

Jason Collette: No chance – he’s a different batter these days.

What do the braves do if Beachy is out this year with TJ surgery?

Jason Collette: Troll the wires in the final week of camp and look for depth. They already made one reactionary move to get Santana; I’m not sure a second one is in them.

Better value in an AL-only league – Uehara at $9 or Alex Cobb at $12?

Jason Collette: Cobb. I have concerns about Uehara repeating the workload as he’s never done it a the big league level. Skills have held up annually, IP totals have not.

12:45
Comment From Guest
Justin Ruggiano 2014: short side of platoon or 15/15 bat with upside of 20/20?

Jason Collette: The former. Ruggiano feasts on fastballs and struggles against everything else. Tough to predict 15/15 or 20/20 with that skillset

12:46
Comment From James
What are your thought’s on Erik Johnson?

Jason Collette: Intrigued, but needs to improve approach against opposite-handed batters.

Could Teixeira play third and move Soriano to first?

Jason Collette: Soriano has a better chance at playing second and Teixeira does any other position. Neither his happening.

12:47
Comment From toot toot
of all the new pitches players are attempting to add this spring, are there any that are particularly intriguing to you/ones we should keep an eye on?

Jason Collette: Odorizzi’s split change. His straight change was a meh pitch, but the split change looks really good as it has late fade and deception.

12:47
Comment From Grand Admiral Braun
What is Javier Baez’s floor? Peak Dan Uggla? Or his Baez too much of a hacker to accumulate those great BB totals?

Jason Collette: I don’t ever see Baez getting a double-digit walk rate. He won’t need it. That swing is beautiful violence.

12:48
Comment From Conrad
How many starting position jobs are really competed for in Spring Training? Competition is always mentioned but it seems only a handful of starting jobs are really up in the air….is that accurate?

Jason Collette: 2 or 3, maybe? I see most teams going into camp with 20-22 firm jobs and they look at new candidates for the bullpen, utility role, and OF depth.

Pick a position player under 25 to start a franchise with…not named Harper or Trout… reasoning?

In a standard 12 team mixed league would you ever spend $25 or more for an elite closer?

Jason Collette: Nope, never. No need to.

1:02
Comment From Ian Kinsler
Though I may have been overrated in recent years, is it possible that I go into this year underrated?

Jason Collette: I don’t think so. Park switch will hurt, and you’re not getting any faster on the basepaths. Your days as a top 75 fantasy player are over.

Comment From Gary
In light of Eno’s recent article, which players have you found to be most accessible? In working on grounds at a minor league park, I’ve found there’s a WIDE variation from super nice to super jerk (as one might expect)…

Jason Collette: I’ve primarily worked the Rays clubhouse & a little with the Astros. Zobrist, Archer, Joyce, Cobb, Peralta have always been very good & Zeid was nice here in helping me with my new pitch story. Honestly, I’ve yet to have a jerk situation in a club

1:04
Comment From Brad
Would you still draft Carlos Gomez at #5 overall or was that just to get people’s attention earlier in the year?

Jason Collette: It was to get some attention to push up his value where I feel it belonged. I think there’s a strong chance he ends up in the top 15 at the end of the season. He was 9th overall last year in standard leagues.

1:04

The guys @ Fantasy Focus say Axford won’t end season as Clev’s closer. Why are u such a “Big Fan”

given Iwakuma and Walker, the Mariners need to get another pitcher, right? Was Beaven given a shot yesterday? Decent line (albeit spring of course), starter in past, etc.

I’m really struggling with the second tier of pitchers and who to pick as my sp2. My options will be Latos, Bailey, Shields, Zimmerman and Cobb.. How would you rank those? (Darvish is sp1)

Jason Collette: Shields, Bailey, Cobb, Latos, Zim

1:09
Comment From gareth
Why so down on bourn? He struggled with injuries and adjusting to the American league. If anything id say both aoki and Gardner would be under 30 Sb’s, not bourn. Aoki is old and in a new league. Gardner dissapointed with his steals last year and if hes not leading off then hex won’t steal as much in 2014 either.

Jason Collette: Aoki is old but Bourn is not? They’re less than a year apart. Aoki is under Yost who loves to run and Aoki gets on base a lot.

is there a niche like Eno’s clubhouse interviews that you’re looking to/already filling at FG? You seem more scouting oriented than most of the FG crew.

Jason Collette: I like to talk process to players and managers when I ask questions. Joe Maddon is fantastic to chat with about those kinds of things and you have to pick your opportunities with the players. I’ve enjoyed chats with Cobb about things when we’ve talked.

Deep league- any value in these OFs R.Grossman, B.Guyer, or C.Blackmon. How goes first in a draft?

1:13
Comment From Tyler Skaggs
I seem to be garnering more attention as we get closer to the season. Is it deserved?

Jason Collette: I think so. I’ve liked what I’ve seen on TV from you so far and the rediscovery of your old mechanics has helped.

Comment From Fernando From Bellevue
What are the odds Grilli’s health holds up and he keeps the job? Mark M was pretty fantastic in both roles last year..

Jason Collette: Grilli’s velo seems to be right where it was pre-injury so that is a good sign. Cosart K’s the side of Carpenter, Jay, and Holliday. Sleeper alert!

Radar Gun be damned…who’s fastball destroys the eye test? or catcher-mitt pop?

Is it lame that when my wife and I honeymooned in Disney world, Every time we saw the “Kissimmee” road sign we would kiss.

Comment From Jerald
The Rays seem to make wise decisions with their arms, why do you think they trusted Balfour more than Baltimore? Is that worth reading into?

1:19
Comment From gareth
Verlander declining or do you see mild improvement from last year?

Comment From Swing and a Miss Puiggy
very deep league: Can I count on at lest 1/2 of Joyce/Dejesus starting basically every given TB game vs a RH SP?

Jason Collette: One in LF, one at DH unless Joyce gets traded. He’s getting a lot of time in camp, vs LH and RH and hitting high in the lineup which makes me wonder if he’s being showcased.

Daniel Fields was just optioned to Toledo today. Are the Tigers being too conservative in finding a temporary replacement for Dirks.

Jason Collette: he told me that Hosmer/Moustakas story when we were in Arizona this past November. I couldn’t stop laughing for 10 minutes.

What recent pitching prospect that hasn’t hit “ace” status (roughly top 10) yet, is most likely to make the jump this year?

Jason Collette: no homer here, but Archer.

Are you doing a 10 bold predictions post? Give us a bold (but plausible) prediction, please.

Jason Collette: I’d like to. Homer Bailey for Cy Young

If Hamilton were to somehow post an ob% of .320, how many SB could we expect? > 75?

Jason Collette: if he has a OBP over .320, he steals 80

That Hamilton comment has to be hyperbole, right? Two steps for ANY runner? Come on!

Jason Collette: Have you seen him live? It’s breathtaking

If I only have room for one of these guys on my farm, who do you take: Mark Appel or Alex Meyer?

Jason Collette: Appel. Much more polish

Biggest flop – Tanaka ot abreu?

Jason Collette: Neither will flop, just depends on personal expectations. I see little risk with both guys

Carlos Correa vs Francisco Lindor – who is the better long term keeper at SS?

Jason Collette: Correa, and can’t wait to watch both play. Lindor in the field is going to be fun.

How much would you spend this year on Matt Harvey in an NL only keeper league?
