Dan Szymborski FanGraphs Chat – 7/15/13

12:03
Dan Szymborski: Couple minutes late – was having issue with Cover it Live!

12:03
Dan Szymborski: Kept hanging on the login.

12:04
Comment From Dr. Met
At least you showed up, we’re still waiting for Ike to do the same this year…

12:04
Dan Szymborski: I’d feel better about having easily the closest projection to Ike’s line if it hadn’t still overrated him by about 250 points of OPS

12:04
Comment From Zach
I’m in a 12-team dynasty league. Each team has six minor league spots. I’m toast for the year. My biggest trade chip is a one-year contract with Jose Bautista that I don’t see myself resigning long term and I want young, controllable talent. I’ve got a contender interested in him and he said anyone is on the table except Jose Fernandez, so that includes Jordan Zimmerman, Matt Moore, Patrick Corbinm Arenado, Jorge Soler, and Jackie Bradley. What do you think would be a reasonable asking price for Bautista using those guys? Sorry for the fantasy question.

12:05
Dan Szymborski: I’d probably *try* to get Zimmerman + one of the prospects, but I might have to settle for less.

Marc Hulet Prospects Chat

11:47
: Lots going on in the world of prospects… get your questions in now and we’ll start in about 15 mins….

11:59
Comment From Jay
Will the Cardinals keep Kolten Wong in the minors until he’s 26 as is their MO. Not sure what else he can do at AAA?

12:00
: Wong has solid numbers at AAA but he’s playing in a very good hitter’s league… It’s not like he’s exactly setting the world on fire. He’s not better than the Cards other options… His best hope (like Adams) would be a trade…

12:01
Comment From Freddie
Who’s the favorite to sign Miguel Alberto Gonzalez?

12:01
: Last I heard it was the Dodgers… Cubs could be a sleeper team.

12:01
Comment From RRuszczyk
Mikael Franco, Real deal or is Keith Law, et al correct in that he’s overrated?

Eno Sarris Chat — 7/11/13

8:49
Eno Sarris: Be here at the top of the hour!

9:00
Eno Sarris: Lyrics of the day are easy, but I’m headed to Pitchfork Fest to see these guys next week (come to the meetup, Chicago, July 18 at Fizz) and they like baseball, so there you go.

The catcher hits for .318 and catches every day
The pitcher puts religion first and rests on holidays
He goes into cathedrals and lies prostrate on the floor
He knows the drink affects his speed he’s praying for
a doorway
Back into the life he wants and the confession of the bench
Life outside the diamond is a wrench

9:00
Comment From LarryA
If I recall correctly, during the offseason there were tons of questions about Erasmos ability to succeed, including from you. Now the FG community is falling over itself to pick him up

9:02
Eno Sarris: Well, a few things happened that are worth watching. He put on 4mph of gas, and who knows if that can continue. That has helped his K%, so his projections in that cat are low. Also, I saw AN Erasmo Ramirez pitch in winter ball, and he wasn’t good, and I’m STILL not sure which Erasmo that was. And it might have been one game is all. I wrote about him, and there are some issues (curve sucks, slider is only average), but I like what he’s got going and he was 92-94 in rehab.

9:02
Comment From Benny
Cards just called up Martinez. Is he going to start ROS? Do I drop Kluber, Cingrani,or Nolasco for him?

9:03
Eno Sarris: Well this is interesting! I thought they were protecting Wacha’s innings for this role, but if they called up C-Mart now, must mean that Wacha is next in line. I’d drop Nolasco for him actually. More upside. I don’t hate Nolasco, but I just see downside there, especially away from home.

FanGraphs Chat – 7/10/13

11:42
Dave Cameron: It’s Wednesday, so we’re chatting. The trade value series starts next Monday, so if you have questions about the list that isn’t “where does so and so rank”, fire away.

12:00
Comment From Ben
Do you think the Mets will wind up trading Bobby Parnell, and if so, what kind of return will they get?

12:01
Dave Cameron: My guess is that they won’t, as there are too many other more veterany rent-a-reliever types on the market that won’t command as high of a price.

12:01
Comment From zack
How far has Matt Kemp fallen on the trade value list?

12:01
Dave Cameron: He’s maybe the second toughest guy to peg, after his teammate, Yasiel Puig. Kemp, right now, isn’t on the list. That might change by publication, but it might not. It all depends on how worried one is about the shoulder.

12:02
Comment From my jays are red
thanks for the chat Dave! just want to know what you think about the all-star selections, if you care about them

Jeff Sullivan FanGraphs Chat — 7/9/13

8:59
Jeff Sullivan: Hello, and we’ll get started in just a few minutes

9:02
Comment From Alex
It seems too “on time” please push it back

9:02
Jeff Sullivan: That’s why I’m still finishing up my breakfast, even after 9am rolls by

9:02
Jeff Sullivan: I could stress out about this, or…

9:02
Comment From zack
What are the odds the Mariners try and sell high on Iwakuma and flip him for highly touted prospects that flame out in two years?

9:03
Jeff Sullivan: Just don’t see it happening. The team isn’t that far away — pretty much no team is that far away — and Iwakuma is a really good value. Good luck replacing that value. Not saying it wouldn’t make some sense, but that’s a good situation that doesn’t need to be interrupted

Dan Szymborski FanGraphs Chat – 7/8/13

11:59
Dan Szymborski: Time, Peanut Butter Jelly.

11:59
Comment From zack
Does Colby Rasmus not suck anymore?

11:59
Dan Szymborski: He is a mid-range dude. Rasmus is either the crappiest good player or the best crappy player in baseball.

12:00
Comment From Alex
Grant Green worth a pickup in 12 teamers?

12:01
Dan Szymborski: As long as you know it’s speculative. He’s not going to grab all the palying time

12:01
Comment From Steal this Handle
just how Hard will Michael Cuddyer’s current .374 babip crash back to earth in the 2nd half?

FanGraphs After Dark Chat – 7/3/13

6:02
Paul Swydan: Hi everybody!

Jeff and I will be here with you a 9 pm ET to cram in ONE more chat before you saunter off into the holiday sunset. So get your questions in now, and I’ll get some polls up after I eat me some dinner.

See you soon! (see polls at bottom of transcript)

9:01
Paul Swydan: Let’s light this candle! Jeff may be a bit late, so you’re stuck with me for now.

9:01
Comment From Jaack
My streak of 28 consecutive FG after Dark chats attened was broken last week because Utah is on Mountain Time and not Pacific. So, I’m petitioning the White House: http://wh.gov/lcFUd

9:01
Paul Swydan: Come on people, get the vote out!

9:02
Comment From Mr. Jones
Thoughts on Manny Ramirez getting a minor league contract with Texas?

9:02
Paul Swydan: I feel like there’s only a 20% chance or so of him actually seeing time in the majors this season. If anything, he’ll have the chance to retire with a little more dignity than playing in Taiwan would have afforded him.

FanGraphs Chat – 7/3/13

11:44
Dave Cameron: Welcome to the first chat of trade season. We’ll still do questions on all (non-fantasy) related things, but I’ll probably focus more on trade questions during July than in other months of the year. So, if you want to talk Ricky Nolasco, this is your big chance.

12:00
Comment From rja3
If the Angels put Mike Trout on the trade market but insisted that the other team take Pujols along with his entire contract, how much would they get back? What if the team had to take Pujols and Hamilton?

12:02
Dave Cameron: Pujols isn’t worthless, so let’s say that the $210 million or so left on his deal is an overpay of about $100 million. Clearly, you’d pay $100 million to get 4+ years of Mike Trout, no question. Add Hamilton’s contract to the mix and you’re probably talking about another $50 million or so of dead money, maybe even $75 million if you think he can’t come back from this. That’s getting to the point where you’re taking on $40 million per year for Trout. He’s probably worth it, but it’d be close.

12:03
Comment From Roman
Homer Bailey is a top __ starting pitcher in baseball.

12:03
Dave Cameron: 20, maybe 15. 10 would be pushing it. He’s good though, no question.

12:03
Comment From Jay
Who should the Reds get for LF? Is this still their biggest need?
