Fan Projection Targets: 12/16/2009

Let’s keep it rolling today by projecting three pitchers: Gil Meche, Oliver Perez, and J.J. Putz.

After excellent 2007 and 2008 seasons for the Royals, Meche battled injuries and ineffectiveness in 2009. Given the Royals’ situation and Meche’s salary, his trade value is an issue for Kansas City going forward, and obviously his performance in the coming season plays a large part in that if they don’t trade him during the offseason.

Oliver Perez seems to be another instance of Omar’s folly. Is there any hope there?

J. J. Putz was recently signed by the White Sox coming off of an injury-plagued season. What do we think his role will be in Chicago, and how will he perform?

Today’s projections involve a little alliteration: Carl Pavano, Juan Pierre, and Nick Punto.

Pavano, of course, returned to the Twins after slyly testing the free agent waters.

Pierre was traded to the Chicago White Sox yesterday, where he figures to play center and bat near the top of the order.

Finally, Punto. Because why not?

Today, we look at some young pitchers who made highly anticipated debuts last season but have as yet to eclipse the 30 ballot threshold in our Fan Projections: Neftali Feliz, Rick Porcello, and Chris Tillman.

Feliz pitched exclusively in relief for Texas after an early-August promotion, blowing away hitters with a 95.8 mph fastball.

Porcello is a ground-ball monster who’ll reach drinking age just in time for New Year’s.

Tillman came to Baltimore as part of the Bedard trade. He breezed through the minors but had a little bit more trouble in his major league debut.

Fan Projection Targets: 12/9/2009

Today’s targets are Ian Kennedy, Ivan Rodriguez, and Joakim Soria.

Kennedy was part of the blockbuster deal yesterday, and finds himself a new home in Arizona.

Rodriguez signed with the Washington Nationals as part-player, part-mentor.

Meanwhile, tomorrow is the annual Rule 5 draft, and Soria is probably the most recent shining example of a raw pitcher being taken and becoming something ridiculous.

Your three targets for the day are guys who were in the news yesterday: Rafael Soriano, Brad Penny, and Adam Everett.

Soriano accepted arbitration, as his Type A status made teams reluctant to give up a draft pick to sign him. Do you think he will play well enough to justify a team losing a high draft pick?

Penny is moving on to St. Louis, where he’ll join the Cardinals rotation on a one year deal. How well do you think he’ll do given a full year back in the NL?

Everett re-signed with the Tigers to maintain his shortstop job in Detroit. Will he continue to play enough defense to justify keeping his bat in the line-up?

Fill out the projections and let us know what you think.

Fan Projection Targets – 12/4/2009

We have over 100 position players already with 30+ projections, but the pitchers are lagging behind. So, with that in mind, today’s targets are: Aaron Harang, Scott Feldman, and John Lannan.

Looking at yesterday’s targets, you guys think Gregg Zaun will regress a bit but still remain a quality player, Dan Uggla will bounce back with a better season than last year, and that Rich Harden will stay relatively healthy and pitch quite well. If the consensus is correct on those three, then the acquiring teams should be quite satisfied with the results they get in 2010.

Fan Projection Targets: 12/3/2009

Today’s targets are: Gregg Zaun, Rich Harden, Dan Uggla.

Zaun is a popular target among teams who are looking for a veteran catcher and has said he will sign this week. What will he do at age 39?

Harden is being pursued by several teams lured by his upside, but his durability is always a question. How many innings do you think he’ll throw?

Uggla is the most likely player to be traded at the winter meetings next week. Do you see him as a 2B or a 3B next year? How will he hit?

Yesterday, you guys projected Kelly Shoppach at +2.5 wins, Josh Johnson at +5.3 wins, and Jake Peavy at +3.8 wins. It looks like you guys are expecting good things from all three.
