Free agency begins five days after the end of the World Series. As in other recent offseasons, FanGraphs is once again facilitating this offseason a contract-crowdsourcing project, the idea being to harness the wisdom of the crowds to the end of better understanding the 2013-14 free-agent market.

Juan Uribe was a 5+ win player this year. BASEBALL!
Did I do that right?
I really have no idea what he’s going to make. I don’t really even know what I would be willing to give him. He looked as done as can be in ’11 and ’12, but then he had this great year, and it makes me think he could get another multi-year contract.
The year he had is so insane that I feel like we need to hide it – it’s one of the seasons that traditionalists will point to in an attempt to discredit UZR or DRS.
At the same time, he had a higher wRC+ in 2013 (116) than in both 2011 and 2012 combined (56 and 53). Offense stats are just as inconsistent as defensive stats.
Having spent a full year watching his glove at 3B, it’s hard to find much fault with what the numbers say.
Now, of course he is not going to be worth 5 WAR next year.
Maybe $5-6M per year for 3 years?
And that was a joke, sort of. I am not sure the realistic value of Uribe…probably closer to 2-3M per year.

He actually had a ridiculous season.
Let’s put it this way: we was worth almost half a Trout.
I can’t fucking believe Juan Uribe was worth 5.1 WAR in only 426 PA, let alone in 1426 PA.
He had a 7 RBI game in July and 3 homer game in Sept, both wins. Those two games accounted for 25% of his homers and 22% of his RBI. I’d definitely say he was at minimum 2 WAR.
that 5 wins seems uh, kinda fluky. would be nice if he could play SS for someone for 1 more season tho that might be asking a lot.
Anyone who gives Uribe more than 1 year is insane. This year is the definition of an outlier.

Keep in mind he’s played most of his games at SS in his career, and gets a big bump from that.
