Assorted Remarks Concerning Arizona Prospect Chase Anderson
Diamondbacks pitching prospect Chase Anderson is currently leading the Arizona Fall League in pitching (per SCOUT-). Here are three learned remarks concerning Anderson and his repertoire.

Dan Strittmatter of AZ SnakePit, last November: Even with a fastball that teeters on the edge of the upper-80’s and low-90’s in long outings, the wicked dive and fading action on his change-up gives Anderson an out pitch, and his ability to change speeds allows his velocity to play up a little, giving him two pitches worth of a starter’s arsenal. If he can develop his curveball into an average big-league offering and build up innings counts, Anderson can make a quality big-league starting pitcher.

Double-A manager Turner Ward, this July (courtesy Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic): His change-up is big league. His change-up off his fastball is his No.1 pitch. He’s capable of throwing three pitches at any time. That’s what makes him so effective. I see him as a starter all the way through (to the majors). He’s got the pitches to be able to do it and the stamina. He’s an athlete out there. There are a lot of plus things that he can do.

Baseball America’s Peter Wardell, earlier this week: On Monday, the 6-foot-1, 175-pound righthander turned in his best outing thus far, tossing four shutout innings, allowing one hit and one walk, while striking out five. This fall, Anderson has sat 90-92 mph with his fastball, mixing in a plus changeup at 80-82 with excellent fade that ranked tops in Diamondbacks’ system in 2010 and 2011. The development of his breaking balls has been notable this fall as well, with some scouts believing Anderson has the potential for four average or better offerings.

Things that have a close to zero chance of happening: Paul Maholm being a free agent and Daiske playing in the MLB next year.
