Ben, I disagree that Chris Sale was “not very good”. He had the second highest K% in baseball last year among pitchers with >140 IP. His K – BB% is right below Cole, Sherzer, Verlander, and right above DeGrom and Beiber. The health and velocity issues were there and maybe contributed to a slightly worse (though better than league average) ERA, but he still put up 3.6 WAR (2.1 fangraphs RA9-WAR) in about 75% of a season.
