Eno Sarris: Last year Beltre was fourth with a .324/19 season which is totally within Arenado’s grasp. I think he could sneak into the top three in his few peak power seasons.

Would eating some of Cris Johnson’s contract and sending him La Stella Gattis to the Rays for Hellickson and Zobrist make sense for both teams?

Eno Sarris: I’m not quite sure how to prognosticate on potential trade rumors in Tampa. Gattis is not a great catcher, but he does have some positional felxibility, which the Rays seem to value. La Stella gives them years of control, and turfing Johnson might give the Braves the chance to spend something. But I doubt it.

Do you think Steven Souza is as good as his projections suggest? What sort of offer would it take to pry him away from the Nats crowded OF situation?

Eno Sarris: One year he led the AFL in velocity off the bat according to Trackman, so I believe in the power numbers. But the projection for a 21% strikeout rate… that seems low. I’ll take the over on that and therefore the under on his average and on-base percentage. The Nats need… an infielder?

Eno Sarris: Upton probably best return, but if you could get anywhere close to Upton return by pimping the years of control on Gattis, trade him.

My dad just traded Lynn, Wong and a mid #1 pick of all the players to debut in MLB this year (Chris Taylor? Souza? McHugh? Baez?) for Goldschmidt. I told him that Lynn was closer to a 3.50 ERA guy than a 3.00 and that prospects are just prone to bust at a certain %. Goldy’s for real. Did I steer him right or wrong?

Eno Sarris: Yeah I’d do this. Lynn still doesn’t have a pitch for lefties. Goldschmidt’s probably the best NL player next year.

Eno Sarris: I just don’t see a great fit with the qualifying offers out there. I mean they really going to pony up for Hanley? I know people have talked about Robertson, and if they could buy him for less than 4/40 and save 7-10 million on Mejia and Familia by keeping them away from saves, that might be okay. But Robertson wants Papelbon money…

Eno Sarris: I guess the upside, particularly wrt Tomas, is floor. For a team that’s competitive now, the fact that Markakis *should* have a one-win floor is pretty good. Now the fact that he has a two-win ceiling is why 4/40 is Super Meh.

The signing of cuddyer, maybe not smart, but an indication of perhaps the mets wanting to actually compete this year. Everyone thinks Cuddyer will platoon with Duda at first with lefties, but the only back-up mets outfielders are also lefties (den dekker, kirk). Would billy butler be a sneaky good signing as a RH platoon for first? Or is he likely to be too expensive?

Eno Sarris: Not a good fit for an NL team. I think names like Corey Hart and Ryan Ludwick might make sense though.

Eno Sarris: All the reports and the video I’ve seen suggest that his swing is pretty nice for such a large man. I’m watching the strikeout rate. I think he’ll do double-a this year and if he can strike out <22% and ISO over .200, we’re cooking and he’s likely to be up sometime in 2016. At 22, he could even get a cup of coffee next year if he did that in Double-A

Eno Sarris: Postseason doesn’t figure in to my rankings, it’s just an extra 15 games at most. I like his consistency and youth, that might push him up, but yes I guess the innings would mitigate that.

Recent reports mention Jocketty saying Reds are either ‘all-in’ or ‘all-out’ next year. You’re in charge, which path do you take?

Eno Sarris: Let’s see. If there’s a ‘window’ it’s based on Cueto’s contract (last year), Frazier’s years of control (until 17), Bruce contract (16), Chapman years of control (16), Mesoraco control (17), and then Latos (15) and Leake (15). I doubt Latos and Leake get you enough to turn around a farm system. Cueto, Latos, and Leake might, but I’m tempted to go into the season with this roster plus something, and then trade Cueto at the trade deadline, and maybe even Latos too.

Eno Sarris: Gose is not good in my opinion, but in a platoon with Davis where he does defense and cedes even some lesser righties to Davis, that works cheaply. Travis is supposedly not a good prospect, but the numbers are good and he’s ready to go at a position of need. I think the Jays did well.

Eno Sarris: Span seems way too high for his age, but that’s sorta obvious. Ellsbury, though, is 31 now. He could drop off!

I’m currently in a heated debate regarding whether a SP should be considered for MVP. I’m on the side that says they should, if they put up the type of historical season Kershaw did in ’14. Your thoughts?

Eno Sarris: Before I talked to all the players, I was all about it. But they pointed out ‘the pitchers have their award, this is the hitter’s award,’ and also that playing every day is a grind that pitchers don’t have to undertake.

If there was no Cy Young, and it was just ‘best player award’ — like FanGraphs’ award — it’s closer. But I still went Trout.

Eno Sarris: I’d do that in a second. He’s got a club option for 2016 and at $10m a season, he’s cheap. The White Sox need pitching… I’m just not really a fan of Niese. Average fastball at best, okay cutter, average curveball. Seems like an average lefty at best, and projections have him worse than that. Has somewhere between 5-10 million surplus on him, if you look at this way (and Ramirez would have 10+.

Indians are stuck with Bourn and swisher at dh and c.f.. the weak areas that could be upgraded are chisenhall at 3b and the regrettable Murphy/raburn platoon in right. Who’d you rather upgrade and who would be a fit?

Eno Sarris: I doubt FA is where they go. They need to upgrade D, and if Ramirez can play, Lindor pushing Ramirez to second and Kipnis to COF might solve a lot of this.

Eno Sarris: Dickerson Calhoun Mookie (last only by playing time issues, ahead of Calhoun in a keeper), but all are decent guys, between 10-20 bucks.

Eno Sarris: Alexei Ramirez is a *way* better defender and his bat has been only been 4% worse than Lowrie’s. If they want a second baseman to play short, they have Flores.

Eno Sarris: The White Sox. Smart FO with enough win-now pieces and an established need (pitching) that they can go impact with the right moves.

Possible that some guys age “faster” than others? In particular are guys who reach maturity younger (like Harper) likely to begin to deteriorate sooner as well? Like, could their bodies just be moving at a faster pace hormonally?

Eno Sarris: I have seen this quoted as evidence for Zimmernan’s recent finding that peak age is moving earlier. Debut age is also moving earlier.

Eno Sarris: Keith Law called him a non prospect and most of twitter spent the night talking about how ‘best Tigers prospect’ is not really a moniker any prospect is reaching for.

Do you like Pomeranz at all?

Eno Sarris: He’s amazing. He only throws two pitches, a four-seamer with some rise and a great curve. Given platoon splits on pitches, that’s one of the few two-pitch mixes that might work, but it’s really iffy for a starter. Any other park in the AL and I’d stay away.

And you have to put that into context, adding alexi means dealing murphy (alderson has said as much), so assuming that you can have niese, flores and murphy or alexi and flores, where is the upgrade?

Eno Sarris: I don’t value Niese highly and think any combo of Montero and Syndergaard and Gee can make up for his production. I think Flores will expose himself as a really poor defender with more time. Murphy’s a one year asset that’s projected to be below average, which doesn’t seem crazy given his declining defense and BABIP-dependent offense. Flores/Herrrera at second seems like it can come up with 1.5 wins. I trust Ramirez more as a shortstop.

Crazy idea that will never happen but is cool to think about anyway: instead of adding 2 expansion teams, MLB adds 12-16 in a second league and then begins promotion/relegation from AL/NL. A multi tier league would make everything way more interesting from top to bottom and allow MLB to add a lot of new teams.

Eno Sarris: I’ve been to a first-division playoff game with promotion on the line between Reading and West Ham and it was one of the loudest games I’ve been to in my life. I love it.

Is it unfair that they stop serving alcohol in the 5th in the Yankees stadium bleachers but in the 7th everywhere else in the stadium? Seems especially nuts considering the bleacher fans are the likeliest to have taken the subway to the stadium rather than driving. I can see the argument that you want to avoid rowdy behavior but I wear an Orioles hat every time I sit there and have never had anyone mess with me.

Eno Sarris: I interviewed in at the 2013 AFL all-star game, picked him in the second round of the BP prospect draft that winter and have generally beat the drum for him so far based on BB>K and great power despite small stature at every level. I’m not the guy to whine to.
