Eno Sarris: let’s start off nice and slow
12:01 |
Eno Sarris: I’m here I promise
12:01 |
Comment From Marcus BanksOK Go!
12:01 |
Comment From Marcus BanksMichael Pineda is the best pitcher in New York City.
12:01 |
Eno Sarris: I still don’t agree! He’s had a bit more time since surgery, and I like the depth of Harvey’s arsenal better.
12:02 |
Comment From hscerIf I kinda like wheat beers what else should I try?
12:02 |
Eno Sarris: Have you had Gumballhead?
12:02 |
Comment From jocephus
is this how your player interviews start?
12:02 |
Eno Sarris: Yes almost exactly, with more jazz hands.
12:03 |
Comment From ShawnJust dropped Heyward (to pick up Syndergaard) and it felt gooood
12:03 |
Eno Sarris: Well he’s been a .280 hitter with league-averageish power and some speed over the last two months, but his ceiling has been lowered.
12:03 |
Comment From adameno-wan kenobi you’re my only hope: Rodon for Springer (otto, fangraph points – price the same [3-4$])…who wins?
12:03 |
Comment From JoeKeep forever dynasty league and you are a contender. You’re taking Miggy for Buxton plus a few fringy prospects and not thinking twice about it right?
12:04 |
Eno Sarris: I traded Betts for Miggie straight up and I was in seventh out of 20.
12:05 |
Comment From juan pierres mustachegot offered giancarlo and cargo for shields and hanley and ohhh boy do i wish it was any decent OF other than cargo there
12:05 |
Comment From MiketronExpectations for Soler when he gets back?
12:05 |
Eno Sarris: .270+ with 25 HR type power.
12:05 |
Comment From adamwill myers have an injury free season or is this a chronic habit?
12:05 |
Eno Sarris: Might need another surgery, which sucks. Those damn mitts.
12:06 |
Comment From joecarlos correa > ian desmond?
12:06 |
Eno Sarris: God it might be true. Correa’s K rate is going to come down (nice swinging strike rate), he’s already showing power, and stealing bags. Desmond’s K rate not a lock to go down, and he’s not stealing bags.
12:06 |
Comment From MiketronWho do you like better long term Thor or E-Rod?
12:07 |
Eno Sarris: Kinda like Thor’s history better. What happens if E-Rod’s velocity goes back down? On the other hand, there’s probably more injury risk for Thor. They close, but I take Syndergaard.
12:07 |
Comment From adamSell high on Rosenthal given the recent injury concerns?
12:07 |
Eno Sarris: Is it selling high right now?
12:07 |
Comment From joewho gets cueto and or chapman at the deadline?
12:07 |
Eno Sarris: The Red Sox were scouting Cueto! The Red Sox. This, and other things, makes this question impossible to answer.
12:08 |
Comment From BrianHey Eno, would you rather have Gerrit Cole or Corey Kluber in a dynasty league? I’m in first and doing well now, trying to take a big picture approach also.
12:08 |
Eno Sarris: I’d rather have Cole. Age and fastball.
12:08 |
Comment From joeis boxberger done getting saves for the rays?
12:08 |
Eno Sarris: You have to think that team is managing the arbitration awards. McGee is already getting paid like a 15-20 save guy, so I guess he’s the guy going forward, with Jepsen and Box getting right-handed heavy saves from time to time.
12:09 |
Comment From KBGregory Polanco: Disappointing? Meeting expectations? Exceeding expectations? Pirates are benching him vs. LHP.
12:09 |
Eno Sarris: Disappointed about the work vs lefties, have a piece coming out about it. I think he can be an every-day guy eventually, and I like certain things about what he’s done to date.
12:09 |
Comment From All the Duda DayHey Eno, 7×7 league with OPS. Which SS is better ROS, Russell or Crawford?
12:09 |
Eno Sarris: I’d rather bet on Russell’s strikeout rate to get better than the 28-year-old’s power surge to keep up.
12:10 |
Comment From Math TeacherI know my calculus- it says you + me = us
12:10 |
Comment From ShawnFavorite Session IPA? I recently had Firestone Walker Easy Jack and that has my vote
12:10 |
Eno Sarris: And plenty of votes from inside the industry, too. It’s really… easy to drink.
12:10 |
Comment From RedstormHypothetical question: IF they were interested, what kind of package would the Twins have to give up to get Tulo?
12:11 |
Eno Sarris: Even with the contract, the Rox are only going to trade the guy if they get a great return, so maybe something like Polanco, Berrios, and… dunno. May, Meyer?
12:11 |
Eno Sarris: May or Meyer?
12:11 |
Comment From thornIS Olivera starting everyday for the dodgers in 2 weeks?
12:11 |
Eno Sarris: I don’t think so
12:11 |
Comment From GregI have a 700 point lead in Fangraphs points league, yet doesn’t seem big enough. Any recs on how to protect this lead?
12:11 |
Eno Sarris: Look for incremental improvements that don’t cost a lot, like changing a holds guy into a saves guy.
12:11 |
Comment From KBEncarnacion/Polanco or Vogt/Lester/AJ Ramos?
12:11 |
Eno Sarris: Edwin’s the best player, stick with him.
12:12 |
Comment From ScoobyI jumped on the fantasy expert’s underground Erasmo Ramirez bandwagon a few times in the past two years and got burned each time, so now I’m leery of him. Is this the Erasmo that experts were expecting? Is he once again a sneaky add in 12-teamers?
12:13 |
Eno Sarris: Dropping the curve might be important. HIs change has always been good. If he gets good when his fastball is at his slowest… I just don’t know. I’ve been pro-Eraser in the past, and I don’t like to get burned off a player by small sample disasters, but still. The small samples have all added up to 260 innings of a 4.5 ERA.
12:13 |
Comment From Neil HuntingtonThe Pirates are on a tear. Do you see this pitching to keep up for at least the majority of the rest of the season?
12:14 |
Eno Sarris: I love the Pirates. With Taillon and Kingham (now starting to throw), I think they have some bullets left in the gun, too. I see growth for Polanco, maybe even soon, and playing Kang is an easy way to get more offense.
12:14 |
Comment From Dr. Ian MalcolmHi Eno, I’ve been asked to give my professional opinion on a new theme park opening, but I’m concerned that they’re so busy thinking of whether they could, they didn’t stop to consider whether they should. I’m a mathmetician BTW. Rrrrah hah ah. Grr ha huh haa.
12:15 |
Eno Sarris: I watched Jurrassic Park 2 and 3 last weekend and was amazed by how bad they were. Putrid. So bad, I had erased them from my memory and was seeing them anew. And hating them again.
12:15 |
Comment From GuestCashner hurt? Man he’s not even getting whiffs anymore. Time to move on?
12:15 |
Eno Sarris: I will never give up on Andrew Cashner.
12:16 |
Comment From tommyJesse Chavez now has an xFIP around 3.5 over 32 starts with the A’s. What do they do with him going forward?
12:16 |
Eno Sarris: For some reason I don’t think anyone is trading for a 31 year old with his long-term history, even with the results he’s shown over the last three years. And even the A’s seemed to be working with Chavez out of the top five until they had to make the switch. So I think he’s their perennial 150 IP swing-starter-reliever guy.
12:17 |
Comment From Red Sox fanDropped Fowler for Mookie in a 10 team H2H points league? Did I make the right call?
12:17 |
Comment From isit2016Yet?Isn’t it about time to start talking about how surprising the Pirates rotation (sans Locke) has looked this year?
12:17 |
Eno Sarris: Jeff Locke threw the fastball faster than he ever has in his career last night. His max velocity was more than a tick better than it’s ever been.
12:17 |
Comment From rhayexWith the absurdity of potentially 8 Royals and 5 Cardinals starting in the All Star Game, what do you think the commissioner might do? Could he replace players this year, and then change the system next year?
12:18 |
Eno Sarris: Absolutely no way he’s going to do anything unilateral. I might get a question of him this Friday, maybe it’ll be about long-term plans for the game. But if this happens, it happens, and then change happens later.
12:18 |
Comment From SalIs Chase Anderson a sell-high, or is he a legitimate keeper? I have him at $1, and he would jump to $5 next year.
12:18 |
Eno Sarris: I like him and think more Ks coming, but if I was contending and could get a win-now piece for him, I wouldn’t let him stand in my way.
12:19 |
Comment From ShawnRecently discovered some CA breweries likeThe Lost Abbey, The Bruery, Ale Smith & 21st Amendement all available at a place I vacation at a few times over the summer . Recommendations on the best few beers from these places. I assume the limited release stuff won’t be available.
12:20 |
Eno Sarris: Lost Abbey Red Poppy is somewhat limited, but you might see it. It’s the bomb. It’s Jeff Sullivan’s favorite sour, and one of mine too. AleSmith X is my desert island beer, just the most soiffable easy x pale ale. Really good. The Bruery makes an horchata beer Or Xata that is … really interesting. I like their sours in general, always worth taking a shot at one of their beers. I like their Berliner Weisse too. But 21A is not my favorite. Their black IPA and their watermelon beer are okay, worth trying once I guess.
12:21 |
Comment From bpqaBarry Bonds choked up on the bat, and so does Joey Votto. Hitters worth emulating, I should think. Why do so few other hitters choke up?
12:21 |
Eno Sarris: They think it’ll cost them power.
12:21 |
Comment From cbirdcan the dbacks be competitve within 3 years? if you were playing gm, whats your plan?
12:21 |
Eno Sarris: Figure out which pitching is going to stick, where Tomas goes, and then maybe buy a veteran starter to tie the room together.
12:21 |
Comment From Ed, MarylandApart from Bolsinger, are there any other regular rotation guys right now who you’ve spotted noticeably different release points between their pitches?
12:21 |
Eno Sarris: Despaigne is ridiculous, and Elias too.
12:21 |
Comment From Frank Ocean‘Cause I’ve been thinking ’bout you, Eno, no, no, I’ve been thinking ’bout you, Eno, no, no…
12:22 |
Comment From NelsonTommy Milone absolutely destoyed AAA this year and has been pretty decent so far in the bigs. Is he anything more than Streamer material in 12-teamers?
12:22 |
Eno Sarris: He’s old for that level, and I wouldn’t trust him very much.
12:22 |
Comment From BruceBanner week for position player pitching. In your player interviews, have you ever asked a fielder about their pitching (Frenchy, Raburn, etc)
12:22 |
Eno Sarris: I should. It almost seems like an epidemic. I did ask Adam Dunn about his pitches. He said “everything’s a changeup.”
12:22 |
Comment From NorthsiderWhy would the Cubs call up Schwarber and start his clock if they planned on sending him down 7 days later. Sounds like the opposite of what they did with Bryant. Is this an audition for a possible trade?
12:23 |
Eno Sarris: If they send him back down, he doesn’t accumulate service time in the bigs.
12:23 |
Comment From GimpyPineda isn’t even the best pitcher on his team.
12:23 |
Eno Sarris: Reasonable response.
12:23 |
Comment From NelsonDo you still see Mookie as highly as you did coming into the season?
12:23 |
Eno Sarris: Mostly, but the infield flies are a bit concerning.
12:24 |
Comment From Chris ParmeleeAm I more Steve Pearce or Chris Shelton?
12:24 |
Comment From DanIs Velasquez a hold, or need to see a few more starts before he’s even that? And yes, Gumballhead is delicious.
12:24 |
Eno Sarris: Yes. has really good shape on his pitches. I think he needs to throw the change a bit more.
12:24 |
Comment From kevinthecomicLove that video from the 80s man — funny thing about the 80s is that it all seemed so normal at the time
12:25 |
Eno Sarris: Zubaz man. Zubaz!
12:26 |
Comment From hscerTop 3 Nationals wRC+ ROS after Harper?
12:26 |
Eno Sarris: Without looking. Hm. Well. Suddenly it looks a bit yucky. Rendon, obviously but then… Espinosa??
12:27 |
Comment From pcm4rank the bad fastball guys RoS: McHugh, Shoemaker, Fiers. Does it change at all if K/BB is also a category?
12:27 |
Eno Sarris: Shoe McHugh Fiers.
12:27 |
Comment From GimpyI have the most faab in my league. Should I spend it all on Buxton, Matz ( when he arrives ) or wait ?
12:27 |
Eno Sarris: No reason to wait, the cupboard is almost bare.
12:27 |
Comment From NelsonGoing to Portugal this summer. Do I try to find the local beer or just drink ALL OF THE PORT!!
12:27 |
Eno Sarris: The local beer will probably be a light lager that can be refreshing between drinking ALL OF THE PORT.
12:27 |
Comment From Art VandelayPaul Goldschimdt is the best pitcher in New York.
12:27 |
Comment From Maxamuz
12:28 |
Comment From Bojack+HorsemanEno, thanks for writing your piece that went up today. As a gay person and a lifelong baseball fan, it means a lot to me to see people talking about this with respect and compassion. Pieces like that help give baseball players of all ages the courage to come out and be themselves.
12:28 |
Eno Sarris: An interlude where something silly and something serious went up right after each other and that in no way makes the serious thing silly. (Or the silly thing serious.)
12:28 |
Comment From Lloyd McClendon“I’m telling you guys… Rodney is STILL an option. I’ve seen him improve.” Am I lying? Is Carson my closer as long as he delivers?
12:29 |
Eno Sarris: Carson can be wild too. Missed the catcher last night, I think more than once. It’s not impossible.
12:29 |
Comment From BrandonIs there still hope for Yordano Ventura?
12:29 |
Eno Sarris: Has all the pitches. Actually would be interested to see what he’d be like at 55% fastball.
12:29 |
Comment From Josh GWho gets the most saves from today forward that’s not currently closing?
12:30 |
Eno Sarris: Ken Giles? Junichi Tazawa?
12:30 |
Comment From MaxamuzThor won’t really go to the ‘pen right?
12:30 |
Eno Sarris: If it happens, only to keep his innings down, and probably only right around the All-Star break or end of the season.
12:30 |
Comment From JillERA/Whip ROS for T. Ross? Will his bad control, bad defense and bad luck continue?
12:31 |
Eno Sarris: Did an interview with him. Should be up sometime in the next week. I think it’s just more sliders, more patience from hitters.
12:32 |
Comment From ShawnIs Matz a must add when called up?
12:32 |
Eno Sarris: yes, he’s got top shelf stuff
12:32 |
Comment From Rated RookieIs it too much to hope that Gausman is in the Baltimore rotation for the rest of the season?
12:33 |
Eno Sarris: I have no idea what they are going to do. I think Gausman’s upside is up there, probably better than anybody else still in rotation. But the floor on the other guys is pretty high. I guess you have to watch Bud Norris.
12:33 |
Comment From ryNWhats been up with Cashner, and where have the K’s gone? Is he droppable in some formats?
12:33 |
Eno Sarris: Throwing more two-seamers I guess, looking for that ideal mix of two and four seamers. I still think he has great stuff and is worth owning in any league.
12:34 |
Comment From Eldridge CleaverI am trying to figure out what type of hitter Kris Bryant really is. Do you think Kris Bryant is destined to forever be a .265 type hitter, as his Steamer and ZiPS projections suggest. Or can he maintain a significantly higher average and hit for power? His biggest power month was May (7 HR) where he hit….265. He has hit .320+ in Mar/Apr/Jun with a lot less power (1 HR).
12:34 |
Eno Sarris: too many strikeouts to be a great batting average guy, but I’ll take .265 with good power.
12:34 |
Comment From ShawnDo you think Miguel Sano is ready to hit at the MLB level?
12:35 |
Eno Sarris: Yes but his position is more dicey.
12:35 |
Eno Sarris: CHRISTIAN BERGMAN UP, BROOKS BROWN TO DL
12:36 |
Comment From Prayers for CharlestonWhat do you expect from Jose Fernandez?
12:36 |
Comment From GWho ya got closing for the Cubs these days?
12:36 |
Comment From BROCK HOLTTAKE THAT ZOBRIST.
12:37 |
Comment From MSWI have too many 3Bs and would like some C depth. Grandal is on the wire, would you drop Plouffe or Gallo for him? I’ll still have Moustakas (and Harrison at 2B).
12:37 |
Eno Sarris: Plouffe is useful but replaceable.
12:37 |
Comment From TJIntrigued by Jace Peterson? NL only auction with some keepers — can trade AGuerrero for Peterson and M.Morse with Peterson at a pretty good keeper number. I feel like I’m holding out for every-day NL at bats which may never come for Guerrero.. What do you think?
12:39 |
Eno Sarris: Yes actually. I might want a better second piece than Morse though. Jace not stealing very well, doesn’t have power. I think his patience and contact and versatility wiill keep him in the bigs and probably in a nice role, but Guerrero showing all that power.
12:40 |
Comment From BartDo you think Andrew Heaney can become a SP3 or SP4 player when he is eventually promoted to the big leagues?
12:40 |
Eno Sarris: Low ceiling high floor guy to me, so yeah those ratings seem okay.
12:40 |
Comment From Eddie BrockWhat size league are you comfortable dropping Corey Dickerson?
12:40 |
Comment From BillHey Eno. Would you trade away Joey Bats for Kluber? I need a pitcher.
12:41 |
Comment From Markie MarcDo you think Desmond’s train wreck of a 1st half sets him up for a big 2nd half? Or are you concerned his struggles continue the rest of the way?
12:41 |
Eno Sarris: Just don’t think he’s going to steal bases.
12:41 |
Comment From Solerwatchjust brewed my ipa. i plan to add fruit you suggested last week. now i just need a name. I was thinking Eno’s Song or Ode to Eno. Preferences?
12:42 |
Eno Sarris: LOL. Enostradamus.
12:42 |
Comment From FrankHey Eno! Just wondering – when you wrote the article “Red Sox OF: an embarassment of riches” in the offseason, were you including Peguera and DeAza already?
12:43 |
Eno Sarris: Yeah that whole thing really fell apart at the seams, huh. Still Castillo is going to be better, IMO.
12:43 |
Comment From JordanWhy do you believe that mchugh’s fastball is below average if it gets above average grounders and swinging strikes?
12:43 |
Eno Sarris: By velocity and home runs.
12:44 |
Eno Sarris: I mean if we’re talking his four-seamer. His cutter/slider is excellent.
12:44 |
Eno Sarris: And you have to weight those swinging strike numbers, and he throws the fastball less than anyone not named Dickey, so it’s a pitching backwards thing.
12:44 |
Comment From MSWdeGrom >>> Pineda
12:44 |
Eno Sarris: God I love deGrom.
12:45 |
Comment From SosaThoughts on T. Walker? Seems to be ditching the cutter for the split and getting good results.
12:45 |
Eno Sarris: I still see bad command when I watch, but fewer walks, and that might be enough. He’s definitely worth rostering.
12:46 |
Comment From jonnyKingham had tommy john about a month ago. He’s not throwing for a while
12:46 |
Eno Sarris: Oops. Now I remember the thing I saw him throwing was that he was throwing with his left hand. Lol.
12:46 |
Comment From AlexNow that I’ve helped you out with Kingham, help me feel good about myself: His Cano for my Shark, good dealio, senor Eno?
12:47 |
Eno Sarris: I would take it. Shark’s a homer issue in a homer park, IMO.
12:47 |
Comment From TonyHow long until Saves stop having such a massive affect on Arbitration? Shouldn’t they be looking at things like innings pitched and advanced stats?
12:47 |
Eno Sarris: Arbitrators get the Bill James handbook now, but I think they could actually have some training.
12:48 |
Comment From Help meAre you starting Allen Webster against the Angels today?
12:48 |
Eno Sarris: No. But I will watch.
12:49 |
Comment From BrandonWhat do you project from Odor the rest of the season? I dropped Kang for him.
12:49 |
Eno Sarris: Let’s just say I buy the projections we’ve got, with maybe a little extra power.
12:50 |
Comment From Markie MarcIs the regression monster coming for Shelby Miller
12:51 |
Eno Sarris: I think so, but not in a really bad way or anything. Like a 3.50 or something.
12:51 |
Comment From CarlCWhen Firesaling, I know you dont like pure propects, so who do I target, young underperforming players like Polanco, Betts, etc? Anyone else you like?
12:52 |
Eno Sarris: Pure prospects are fine, but they have to be top 25, and I’d rather have bats. And they have to be Double-A or better. And underperforming young guys that have done *anything* I like in the bigs, yeah, I want that most of all.
12:52 |
Comment From Genochances that if schwarber continues to mash that he stays up?
12:52 |
Eno Sarris: Just don’t see where. Hasn’t been playing in the outfield. They want him to catch. Can’t play first.
12:52 |
Comment From hscerwhat % of the sour cream in each container is lost to spoon-sticking?
12:53 |
Comment From klofhow important is it to you to put together a string of championship quality fantasy seasons for your teams? I see a lot of advice to go for broke on a season, but sometimes the right answer is to hold and battle it out with what you have so you can be top 3 for 4-5 years instead of a champion for one year and a rebuilder the other 4 years. or are prospects overrated and i should always sell for victory today?
12:53 |
Eno Sarris: I always want to be competitive. I don’t fire sale. But I’ll sell pieces here or there near the end of the year, for pieces that will help next year. Like for TJ guys, or close rooks, or whatever.
12:54 |
Comment From stephania strasburgdoes jupton get this season?if so, who wants him?
12:54 |
Eno Sarris: They only six out of wild card race, I think Murphy gets a few games to try and right the ship.
12:55 |
Comment From The BoatStewart and Cervelli were awful in New York, now they seem like an excellent tandem for the Pirates. How badly did New York lose the Cervelli trade?
12:55 |
Eno Sarris: Was Cervelli that bad? Take away some BABIP, and this is about what he’s done. I think it’s just that the Pirates valued the framing/defense more.
12:56 |
Comment From Wyatt DerpOdds of Conforto getting the call to the Mets this season since we need a bat and don’t want to give up any of the stud pitching
12:56 |
Eno Sarris: Hey, that’s interesting. I’d give him another 150 PA or so at least. That gets him to 200 Double-A PA… Could help and if he doesn’t, back down he goes… Better than risking his stardom on another team.
12:57 |
Comment From NormDid you end up trading Mike Trout to Chad Young in the FanGraphs Experts ottoneu league, as per this article? http://www.fangraphs.com/fa…
12:57 |
Eno Sarris: Nope. I don’t really like Tomas.
12:57 |
Eno Sarris: Maybe if it was Betts and Russell.
12:57 |
Comment From klofgrapefruit sculpin feels like cheating. if hops can give a perception of grapefruit isn’t that more legit than just dropping grapefruit right in the beer? seems like a shortcut.
12:57 |
Eno Sarris: Yeah it’s almost a shandy to me.
12:57 |
Comment From CarlCPitchers in Highschool are usually the best atheletes on the team. Why are big league Pitchers so damn slow?
12:58 |
Eno Sarris: Because high school was the last time they concentrated on being quick and strong in that way.
12:58 |
Comment From GuestDo you think teams have data on how valuable certain pitches are with pitch f/x yet? Wasn’t that the goal by the public when pitch f/x launched? To be able to say, “Kershaw’s curveball is a x WAR pitch”
12:59 |
Eno Sarris: It’s really hard. I’ve been trying for a long time. Still keep throwing myself on the rocks, but you’ve seen my stuff on curves and changes. There’s some legitimacy there.
12:59 |
Comment From Millienow that you’ve dissected McHugh, where does he fall in ROS ranks with Latos, Ventura, Shoe? McH was waaay higher in your May update…
12:59 |
Eno Sarris: Still higher than those guys, but maybe even with them. McHugh, Ventura, shoe, Latos?
1:00 |
Eno Sarris: Well okay hold on. Ventura…. McHugh, Shoe…. Latos.

1:01 |
Comment From kidDoes Kemp “come around”, fo the most part?
1:02 |
Eno Sarris: What to think about that power? Gotta shave ceiling off the power and therefore the batting average. Can’t think he finishes much better than 15/15 .260
1:02 |
Comment From Keeper? I hardly know herDo you think Schwarber gets 20 spots at C this year? hoping to keep him as next years Catcher. Better stash than Grandal?
1:02 |
Eno Sarris: If he did get 20 starts at catcher, might be right there with Grandal, but I don’t think he will, and so I’ll take Grandal.
1:02 |
Comment From RickeyAt one point I loved my Semien, Desmond, Kang M/I but thats not working out so well. Talk me off the ledge.
1:02 |
Eno Sarris: You need another MI on your bench.
1:02 |
Comment From JoeProbably a bad thing that I have Sporer’s Hail Mary team around my infield, right??
1:02 |
Eno Sarris: Well not if you need a Hail Mary.
1:03 |
Comment From BartShould the Phillies immediately fire their GM and other upper management sooner than later after their embarrassing loss they had a couple of nights ago? The team is pitiful and really needs a shake up.
1:03 |
Eno Sarris: Well was it such a signature loss? They’re rebuilding. They knew it would hurt.
1:03 |
Comment From sudsis there a power surge for ozuna or trumbo?
1:04 |
Eno Sarris: More likely Trumbo, IMO. Ozuna changed his ground ball fly ball mix.
1:04 |
Comment From Keeper? I hardly know herJeff Francour is the best pitcher in Philadelphia
1:04 |
Comment From El GuapoCan I get your latest take on Hutchison? Is he putting it together or is this all there is? Thanks.
1:04 |
Eno Sarris: Has had the better velocity in the last couple starts. If he can keep it over 93/94, he has a much better shot.
1:04 |
Comment From STiVoEno, first you talked to pitchers about gripping their junk; now you’ve followed it up with talking to hitters about handling their wood. Kudos, sir!
1:05 |
Eno Sarris: And then just straight up asked about sexuality yesterday.
1:05 |
Comment From Digital UndergroundPeople say yo, Eno, you’re really funny lookin. That’s alright cuz you get things cookin.
1:05 |
Comment From BartIn general, how is FIP and xFIP calculated?
1:06 |
Eno Sarris: FIP focuses only on walks, strikeouts, and homers because those events are uniquely between the pitcher and the batter and don’t involve position players (other than the catcher). xFIP normalizes those home run rates for park and league.
1:06 |
Comment From stephania strasburgthoughts on nova going forward, he showed promise in 2013
1:07 |
Eno Sarris: I worry about his command, because they usually tell you to keep your breaking ball in your pocket while you’re rehabbing TJ, and also command in general isn’t great at first. So he had some promise, but I’m thinking more likely he’s anything other than a warm body in 2016.
1:07 |
Comment From STiVoNext season is the last one for Downton Abbey. Sad?
1:08 |
Comment From klofWhy would the cubs send schwarber to Iowa when he’s the best bat they could have off the bench? He’s got Junior Lake and Matt Szcuzrs beat.
1:08 |
Eno Sarris: To be a better catcher.
1:08 |
Comment From CTWWould you drop Harrison for Turner? What about for Plouffe? Triple slash and it seems like Harrison is coming around
1:08 |
Eno Sarris: nope wouldn’t drop him
1:10 |
Comment From SBIf you had an elite closer (Chapman, Kimbrel, Jansen, Robertson), would you take Wade Davis + Lucroy in a league that counted holds and saves? Is that not enough for the closer owner to do it, or too much for the Davis owner to offer?
1:10 |
Eno Sarris: Fair trade. I’d take Lucroy side if I needed a catcher.
1:10 |
Comment From juan pierres mustachewhat is a christian bergman

Comment From klofwhen a shift is on and the third baseman moves over to play between the first baseman and the second baseman in shallow RF, why is he still “5” in scoring? do the numbers apply to the person or the defensive setup? If he’s the second guy over from the first baseman shouldn’t he be “4”? Blows my mind, man.
1:11 |
Eno Sarris: Hah you have to link it to the player or the records would get real wonky.
1:11 |
Comment From RockyWho is really the next one up when Ax have moved on?
1:11 |
Eno Sarris: I think Ax might manage to do it ugly all year.
1:11 |
Comment From WeezyMy team is in free-fall. I don’t think it’s bad, and I tried balancing it. I’m taking shots on younger guys, stashing injured studs, and still suckity suck suck. What’s a guy to do, besides drown himself in all the freshly canned Kook IPA he got from his buddy who works at Port Brewing?
1:12 |
Eno Sarris: Gotta have more than one team because some times it’s just not your year in one league.
1:12 |
Comment From JimmyOPS league, is it worth it to drop Franco now and go with an empty Util. spot just to stash Sano? 80/80 raw power…
1:12 |
Eno Sarris: I like Franco and where are the Twins going to play Sano? DH?
1:13 |
Comment From BryanHate to say it, but did the Mets make a mistake by locking up Lagares? His bat and defense have both regressed, and he’ll probably be part of the reason Conforto gets blocked next year (Granderson and Cuddyer contracts being the other reasons).
1:14 |
Eno Sarris: I don’t think so. I know that arbitration would have given him less money, but $23m until 2019 is fine even for a fourth outfielder with great defense. Not going to break the team.

Comment From RajSpeaking of Guerrero, how do you see that playing out? The less they score, the more they seem intent on finding AB’s for Callapso and Heisey. It is bizarre, but doesn’t it seem a near certainty that even with the contract situation — Guerrero gets traded this year in some kind of pitching deal?
1:17 |
Eno Sarris: Guerrero has a poison pill in his contract, if he gets traded, he becomes a free agent sooner. I think he stays.

Comment From FarvaAdam Eaton – Billy Burns ROS?

Eno Sarris: Burns. I don’t buy the RoS batting average projections for MLB’s infield hits leader.

Comment From Phil BrickmaCole, Archer, and Gray made a move toward ace status this year. Who are some guys to target in dynasty leagues that could have similar jumps in the next couple of years?
1:22 |
Eno Sarris: Carlos Martinez, Eduardo Rodriguez, Lance McCullers
1:23 |
Comment From Maikel FrancoHow far over my head am I hitting right now? Time to sell high in a keeper league? Do I eventually get some time at first if Howard is traded?
1:23 |
Eno Sarris: Nah just a tiny bit more power than I expected at first. And he could show better batted ball luck.
1:24 |
Comment From RickWhat is up with Castellanos? Still think he will turn out to be above average third baseman? Long tem – Castellanos, Headley, or Lawrie?
1:24 |
Eno Sarris: He’s still 23, so I’ll give him a bit more leash.

Comment From The Oriole BirdHow nervous should I be about Quintana from a fantasy perspective?
1:26 |
Eno Sarris: I don’t think he’s too far from his true talent line, actually. I buy his RoS projections.
1:26 |
Comment From GenoSo you don’t see Schwarber coming back up before the rosters expand?

1:28 |
Comment From Dr. BrownCould you name two to three highly touted 2b prospects? Thanks.
1:28 |
Eno Sarris: They don’t usually exist. Instead look for shortstops that might move off the position.
1:28 |
Comment From The BoatHow did McCann lose his framing skill so quickly? He’s below average this year after years of excelkence. Is this just a blip, or a sign of decline?
1:28 |
Eno Sarris: Without injury, I would expect the numbers to improve a bit.
1:28 |
Comment From Ringtone ComposerWas totally bummed when Eduardo Rodriguez got shellacked last time out. Then I saw the highlights–it was like 6 seeing-eye BS singles and Pedroia losing a ball in the sun. Results don’t always match process. Who can I complian to about this?

Comment From Joe BlowDoesn’t matter if shandy or beer, grapefruit sculpin tastes great and you know it.

Eno Sarris: I drink it gladly, but mentally I put it in a different class and will probably never list it as a top five IPA.
1:29 |
Comment From Reginald Denton IIIIs there a specific pitch or pitches that are more taxing on a pitcher or more difficult for a pitcher to throw?
1:30 |

Comment From JoeAddison Russell seems like his contact rate and walk rate is improving quickly and he is hitting the ball hard with tons of XBH. Could he be my answer to Desmond or should I look to Lindor/Flores on WW?
1:32 |
Eno Sarris: No on Lindor, but can’t beet the price on Flores. I do prefer Addison to those two.

Comment From Eine Mann LudeLiving in Germany with my German fiancee. Yesterday she was on a commuter train. It pulled into the station that was the last stop, the driver made a bunch of announcements telling everyone to get off, but never opened the doors. People waiting on the platform for their family were banging from the outside, people on the inside were banging, but somehow the buttons didn’t work, the driver didn’t notice, and the train left the station. Here’s my thing: if I was on that train, I’d be pulling the freaking emergency stop lever like IMMEDIATELY. Am I punishing contemporary Germany too much for its past by admitting that if I’m stuck on a German train I am FREAKING THE EFF OUT?
1:33 |
Eno Sarris: Probably freaking out a bit too much.
1:33 |
Comment From hscerI thought xFIP just used league average HR/FB and you needed xFIP- to normalize?

Comment From majordanbyeno – just read your article on openly gay baseball players. what is your opinion? do you think MLB is ready for one? What kind of reaction do you think he will receive from the media?
1:35 |
Eno Sarris: Yeah I think it could manage. There are all sorts of people in the clubhouse now, it’s not really the most private place. Players don’t know that much about each other’s personal lives unless they are friends, and there are plenty of people that just come to work and work. As for media distractions, every team has those.
1:35 |
Comment From AlexEno, Imma let you finish but Matt Carpenter is the best 3rd baseman in MLB

Comment From TimberIn yesterday’s chat, Dave compared Franco to Delmon Young. Good contact, bad discipline, mediocre power, not a great defender. Little harsh, no?
1:37 |
Eno Sarris: It all hangs on the power really, and I mean at least by body I don’t think Franco is as bad a defender.

With a phone full of pictures of pitchers' fingers, strange beers, and his two toddler sons, Eno Sarris can be found at the ballpark or a brewery most days. Read him here, writing about the A's or Giants at The Athletic, or about beer at October. Follow him on Twitter @enosarris if you can handle the sandwiches and inanity.
Zips has Billy Burns hitting .252 with a .633 OPS the rest of the season. What about his batting profile points to such a significant decline? What do you think his final stat line is at season’s end and how does he rank as far as OF? Thanks!
