Eno Sarris: Hey Ho Let’s Go

12:00
Comment From JAL
Eno, good day. Do I throw Hudson out there today? Thanks.

12:00
Eno Sarris: Yes I trust him, and this offense can be pitched to.

12:00
Comment From Fister? I hardly know her!
Do you think Junior Lake ever figures things out? The guy has great physical tools, but no plate discipline.

12:01
Eno Sarris: Seems like a pretty defined track record by now. Maybe he has a crazy BABIP year.

12:01
Comment From Z-Bo
Dickerson, Betts, Calhoun – right order ROS in 10-tm?

12:01
Eno Sarris: Betts last. Dickerson v Calhoun is interesting. Both platoon issues. Calhoun should play all year, Dickerson a little more risky when COL all healthy. But Dickerson better home park, slightly more upside therefore.

12:02
Comment From Nelson
I only started getting into prospects a couple of year ago, and there is a lot of talk about top pitching prospects potentially being converted to shutdown closers (Meyer, Crick, etc). But were any of todays closers ever actually considered top SP prospects?

12:02
Eno Sarris: Lemme check on one.

12:03
Eno Sarris: Papelbon was once the #37 BA prospect overall..

12:03
Comment From Nelson
Did your wife excercise her veto power on your Hops baby names?

12:03
Eno Sarris: Gonna chill for a bit and sneak Sauvin in as the middle name.

12:03
Comment From Lenard
Which side in a vaccuum: Brandon Moss for Ryu and Desmond Jennings

12:03
Eno Sarris: Moss best in deal. Deeper the league, the more I like the Ryu side.

12:03
Comment From Saves Vulture
If you were scouring the AL for saves, would you prefer to stash Jason Grilli or Brad Boxberger?

12:03
Eno Sarris: Grilli.

12:04
Comment From Tony G.
In terms of the American League, any starting pitchers currently going under the radar? Any about to be called up that could help out a fantasy team? Help me, Eno!!!!!!

12:04
Eno Sarris: Paxton? Shoemaker?

12:04
Comment From BEER
Beer question: Thoughts on Southern Tier’s Pumking?

12:04
Eno Sarris: Best in style. Not my style!

12:04
Comment From Pale Hose
Hey Eno. Is Machado growing into some HR power, or is this a hot streak?

12:04
Eno Sarris: He should gain some power, he’s pre peak there, and his value is at an all-time low. Actually a decent buy low IMO.

12:04
Comment From American League Hustle
Does Ibanez get released upon Aoki’s return? If not, what happens to the playing time of those two and a guy like Jarrod Dyson?

12:05
Eno Sarris: I feel like Aoki gets the most chances, Dyson becomes a d replacement.

12:05
Comment From Danni
Who is the odd man out of this group: Grandy, Crisp, or Rajai?

12:05
Eno Sarris: Grandy

12:05
Comment From Guest
Can only start 2 out of 3, Gio at Baltimore, Morton at Cincy or Richards at Texas? Thanks as always.

12:05
Eno Sarris: Gio and Morton. The Reds lineup has one above-average guy in it today.

12:05
Comment From Matt
If you could swap Joey Votto for Jason Kipnis in a 5×5 roto league, would you do it? Neither will be kept next season

12:06
Eno Sarris: Yes, I want Kipnis. Votto has spent a year struggling with his health before.

12:06
Comment From Guest
What caliber of player bridges the gap between Justin Upton and Clayton Kershaw, where I’m sending Kershaw?

12:06
Eno Sarris: Role player, Leonys Martin type.

12:06
Eno Sarris: (in other words, not much).

12:06
Comment From kris

12:07
Comment From Miketron
Saisons for everyone!

12:07
Eno Sarris: a lude for ludeburger

12:07
Comment From Dustin Ackley
WHAT HAPPENED TO ME???

12:07
Eno Sarris: Not the greatest prospect going in, maybe, I don’t have much hope, at least in Seattle. No no-doubt tool.

12:07
Comment From Dino
Garrett Richards – future ace in the making?

12:08
Eno Sarris: Looks pretty good now, but FB/SL/CB… might have the odd bad game against lefties in homer parks for a while.

12:08
Comment From Kandu
Any SPs currently in the minors that you think will factor into an MLB rotation in the second half? Like Kingham, May, Wisler, etc.? Thanks for your time.

12:08
Eno Sarris: Kingham, Meyer. May is hurt, apparently. Erlin coming back, so I doubt the Padres start up Wisler’s clock.

12:08
Comment From Eric G
Drew Stubbs is hot right now. When Cargo comes back, will he be worth owning in a 12-team mixed league, or will he only be in the lineup a few times a week?

12:08
Eno Sarris: I think he’ll still sit some.

12:08
Comment From dudekid
ROS: jed lowrie or brian dozier?

12:08
Eno Sarris: Dozier.

12:08
Comment From Ricardo
I wanna make a sandwich, got any ideas?

12:09
Eno Sarris: Any leftover proteins? Add sriracha, mustard and honey mix and a vegetable to that leftover protein. (Hopefully I didn’t just suggest a shrimp sandwich).

12:09
Comment From VU Commodores
Is Jose Quintana the real deal? Any good comps in terms of production

12:10
Eno Sarris: I have a real hard time with comps because pitchers are beautiful snowflakes. But Q has a nice fastball and curveball. Good command means he gets the most out of otherwise underwhelming cutter and change. Wonder what happens when he drops under 90 mph.

12:11
Comment From Tom Jones
Yan Gomes or Derek Norris, ROS?

12:11
Eno Sarris: Playing time or excellence? I take the playing time.

12:12
Comment From Jolly Roger
Does Alcantara stick with the Cubs if he rakes during this cup/sip of coffee? Where do you think he ends up positionally in the long term after the Russell trade?

12:12
Eno Sarris: I don’t think he’ll rake right away and the team is talking about this being temporary. I only think one of him and Baez will work out. Both have a lot of swing and miss in their games and 50+% bust rates in my mind.

12:12
Comment From Metsox
Dozier or Kipnis? And what should I be looking for in return in a 5×5 league? Feel like I move Dozier since I can probably get more back for him based on his season to date, and think I have more faith in Kip anyway. Am I wrong?

12:13
Eno Sarris: I like how you’re thinking. Always have to think about the other side of the trade too.

12:13
Comment From Snuffy
Is McCallister or Salazar first up? Do you think the injury was the cause of Salazar’s early-season troubles?

12:13
Eno Sarris: I’m not a McAllister believer, and I’d rather see Salazar, but the team said McA I believe.

12:13
Comment From wes
Shields, MadBum and Yordano – stay the course in 2nd half or trade them now?

12:14
Eno Sarris: I think trading Shields after that last outing makes sense. Probably not going to get much for Yordano with injury scares and all that. I like the trio enough in general though.

12:14
Eno Sarris: And, for what it’s worth, ALL of the teams where I considered trading pitching because I had surplus are now just barely holding on.

12:14
Eno Sarris: (in terms of pitching)

12:14
Comment From Tom
How many swing-and-misses for the Padres against Kershaw tonight? More than 18?

12:15
Eno Sarris: Hah. If he throws 100+… nice over under. I’ll take over.

12:15
Comment From Bruce
cher like Jimmy Nelson can so absolutly dominate in the high-minors and still not be considered to be anything great by scouts. Dont results have any say in the matter?

12:15
Eno Sarris: No change-up and inconsistent command doesn’t always matter in minors.

12:15
Comment From JAL
Would you trade Brantley in a redraft? What should I target, if you would? I need a closer plus. Any thoughts? Many thanks!!

12:16
Eno Sarris: More likely to trade in a keeper, because I think this is a career year, but he’s tradeable in general. Not no-doubt power tool there.

12:16
Comment From Him
Eno! What do you think are the chances that Jean Segura gets sent down? Could it help him get his head on straight before the playoffs?

12:16
Eno Sarris: Doubt it. They just moved him into the second spot..

12:16
Comment From John
What should I do with Tanaka?

12:16
Eno Sarris: Hold on for dear life and pray to whatever god you believe in.

12:16
Comment From Dino
Any concerns that the league is going to ‘figure out’ Abreu or is he really that good?

12:17
Eno Sarris: He’s K’ing, so he can be pitched to, but the power is no doubt, so at worst case it’s a question of batting average.

12:17
Comment From The Real Eno Sarris
What’s the deal with Austin Jackson? He doesn’t seem to have the same buy low appeal as he used to now that his ks are back up, and his batted ball distance has dipped

12:18
Eno Sarris: In retrospect, maybe moving back to his old leg kick was a bad idea. But Ks are same as ever and I think he’ll finish the season at his near-customary .260/15/20.

12:18
Comment From Anthony
Everytime I sit George Springer, he goes deep. Should I just start him every game? Alternating Polanco & Springer.

12:18
Eno Sarris: I think Polanco would be the better every-day play because of his plate discipline. Maybe sub in Springer against lefies.

12:18
Comment From CHRISTOPHER MAD DOG RUSSO
WHY ARE THERE 34 SPOTS ON THE ALL STAR TEAM THEWE SHOULD BE 25 SPOTS 34 IS TOO MANY THATS STUPID, LOUD NOISES

12:19
Eno Sarris: At least you’re not yelling at me.

12:19
Comment From Clamato
Which Brandon Belt do you think we get the rest of the season – the high average-limited power version, or the power sellout?

12:20
Eno Sarris: Hopefully you’ll get a long interview I did with Belt today to make your own decision on the matter. Probably up soon. (I think he’s both guys, and he’s just going to look like one or the other in short samples.)

12:20
Comment From Lenard
Eno’s hair should host a monthly “After Dark” chat.

12:20
Eno Sarris: “yesterday Eno got beer AND yogurt AND finger paint stuck on me.”

12:20
Comment From Cory
10 team keeper league and I’m likely not going to make the money because of poor pitching. Been offered Gio for Belt. I can keep either of them next year. I don’t necessarily like trading hitting for pitching but I’m intrigued by this deal… Thoughts?

12:20
Eno Sarris: I’d rather not keep pitching unless it’s more of a dynasty situation.

12:21
Comment From Bruce
So whats stopping Shoemaker from having better results?

12:21
Eno Sarris: Inconsistent fastball command? Ball rates on his fastballs are a bit high. Otherwise, still see a good fastball, slider and split.

12:21
Comment From Gerrit Cole
Do I get shut down for the rest of the year?

12:22
Eno Sarris: Not with team in it. They’ll take some time, but I doubt it.

12:22
Comment From Greg (NOLA)
What do you expect out of Joe Kelly tomorrow?

12:22
Eno Sarris: Ground balls and velocity and few strikeouts!

12:22
Comment From Patrick
FWIW, your Doug Fister analysis on the podcast the other day was sublime. Was that really off the cuff, as it seemed?

12:22
Eno Sarris: I take a look at some names before we sit down, but I’m looking at these guys ever day all the time. Dunno if that answers.

12:23
Eno Sarris: (because I don’t remember what I did for Fister, is the subtext)

12:23
Comment From Mookie Betts
Eno, are you touching Reimold at all? Toronto turf can’t be good for him at all, but he’s always had some talent…

12:23
Eno Sarris: I have Reimold in a few 20-teamers. He’s playing!

12:23
Comment From Lenny
Is Ozuna likely to maintain the gains he’s made this season?

12:23
Eno Sarris: Always liked him. Tons of tools. I think more power could even come.

12:23
Comment From Marty
It’s been a long time since we talked some ball,
I can’t count the tears of a life without Eno.
Chat with me back, chat with me back,
Chat with me back, baby, where I chat from.
It’s been a long time, been a long time,
Been a long lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely, lonely time.

12:24
Comment From austin
Just noticed a couple things on the team stats page…

12:24
Comment From derp
chris sale is 6th in WAR among qualified starters. he has thrown 20 fewer innings than any starter ranked higher than him. that is ridiculous. also, am i the only one who keeps hearing that terrible awolnation song in my head whenever i think about him?

12:24
Eno Sarris: Okay good we’re in mid-season lude form.

12:24
Comment From Joe
Reports have Vargas missing 3-4 weeks with an appendectomy. Not to sound like a stereotypical NFL fan, but isn’t that pretty generous?

12:25
Eno Sarris: I know a Stanford swimmer whose career was ended by an appendectomy! (I’m not a doctor.)

Bring back prospect chats!!! Please…

12:25
Eno Sarris: My bet: we will.

12:25
Comment From juan pierres mustache
wasn’t zach britton a reasonably hyped guy?

12:25
Eno Sarris: Well done.

12:26
Comment From Sonny Gray Real Estate
Hey Eno, love your chat each week. Even better now that I’m unemployed! Would you drop any of these pitchers for Jesse Chavez? Kennedy, Cobb, Ventura, Keuchel, Archer.

12:26
Eno Sarris: No,. With Keuchel’s K rate and injury, he’s maybe last in the group, but he has more innings and fewer competitors for his job.

12:26
Comment From Dino
Is Andrew Cashner your favorite baseball player?

12:28
Eno Sarris: Hah. He’s maybe the one I feel for most. In that, he’s living a tight rope. And he’s right out of the south I remember: grilling, hunting, straight talking. He has a goddam mullet. And curly hair. I don’t know, but I’m glad we’re friendly and that he’s having success.

12:28
Comment From Miketron
Chapman was kind of a top SP prospect

12:28
Comment From john
When is Zeigler given the job over Reed? Also, does Romo get the job back in San Fran soon?

12:29
Eno Sarris: Nope, I’m a Reed believer. No manager wants to give a submariner the job, they own Reed for a while, and he’s no 20% HR/FB guy.

12:30
Comment From Big Joe Mufferaw
Will Beergraphs ever rate Canadian Beers?

12:30
Eno Sarris: You mean like this? http://beergraphs.com/leade…

12:30
Comment From MT
Concerned about Keuchel?

12:31
Eno Sarris: Non-fastball usage down since his injury, seems like a DL stint coming, unless they can use the All-Star break creatively. Don’t vote for him!

12:31
Comment From scatterbrian
I really enjoy your analysis on whiff rates for different pitches. Is there a breakdown somewhere of ranges, i.e. elite, above average, average, etc. whiff rates for curve balls?

12:31
Eno Sarris: Thanks! Yes, we did an update recently. http://www.fangraphs.com/fa…

12:31
Comment From Greg (NOLA)
Beer question: What are your thoughts on Prairie Ales? Their heavy, dark stuff is great (Bomb!, Bible Belt, etc.), they have a great farmhouse ale (Birra), and a good sour (Funky Gold Mosaic).

12:31
Eno Sarris: and Puncheon! they’re great!

12:32
Comment From Scott
2015: Corey Kluber or Garrett Richards?

12:32
Eno Sarris: Richards. Going to bet on the fastball here.

12:32
Comment From Eric
What does alcantara look like when he eventually gets the full time gig?

12:33
Eno Sarris: Maybe Zobristian? Not that they are similar players, but I think Alcantara could have meh average, okay OBP, power and speed. More speed than Zobrist, probably.

12:33
Comment From Fish
ugh. What the hell do I do with Verlander? 10-team mixed dynasty

12:33
Eno Sarris: Hold on to him and pray to whatever god you believe in?

12:33
Eno Sarris: (He’s got too much upside to drop, nobody will trade for him, so…)

12:33
Comment From Anthony
Need to drop one when Lee returns. Who do I drop, Stroman or McHugh?

12:33
Eno Sarris: Stroman in a redraft.

12:33
Comment From Guest
What’s wrong with Donaldson? This slump has been going on now for 5 weeks.

12:34
Eno Sarris: I just looked at his hard-hit percentage, and if you don’t look at liners — if you look at hard hit % of all balls in play — he’s the same as last year. So he’s still hitting ball hard. I expect it’s a blip. He’s a good buy-low.

12:34
Comment From Fish
wait. Justin Upton for Kershawn is almost a fair deal? that doesn’t seem right.

12:35
Eno Sarris: From my experience, you have to overpay with pitching to get hitting. Been true in every league I’ve been in.

12:35
Comment From GK
Who is Morton? Hendricks is making his debut @ Cincy today.

12:35
Eno Sarris: Charlie? I thought he was asking about Charlie Morton pitching against Cincy. My bad.

12:36
Comment From john
So whats your thoughts on DeGrom

12:36
Eno Sarris: He got a ton of whiffs on his curve ball last time, which is great because he has a big fastball, great command, great change. I love him.

12:36
Comment From Anthony
JD Martinez or Gregory Polanco, ROS?

12:36
Eno Sarris: Polanco. JDM a sell-high based on K%.

12:36
Comment From chris
Is Dozier and Anibal enough for Wainwright? I’d have Scooter at 2nd.

12:37
Eno Sarris: It’s enough but woof on Scooter.

12:37
Comment From Turkey Sandwich
In a dynasty, would you rather Hendricks or Despainge?

12:37
Eno Sarris: Neither? Hendricks because he hasn’t shown a tiny whiff rate yet.

12:37
Comment From Frank
Re: the story you linked this AM (http://www.washingtonpost.c…), do you foresee a harper bounceback this year or will it have to wait til next? He destroyed the minors on rehab

12:38
Eno Sarris: Maybe some of those numbers were injury-related. He’s stil pre-peak for power in terms of age.

12:38
Comment From Fish
It’s time for a FG/BG meetup in Seattle, Eno. It’s time.

12:38
Eno Sarris: It’s time for a bigger budget for BG so I can travel for them too!

12:38
Comment From Big Joe Mufferaw
So, tomorrow is friday, and here in Ottawa it is supposed to be 27 (Celcius, so like 82 F), perfectly sunny and not humid… What beer should I stock up on to enjoy this marvelous day?

12:39
Eno Sarris: Saison Dupont?

12:39
Comment From HungoverAtWork
any good hangover cures you like to employ?

12:39
Eno Sarris: salty food, not necessarily greasy, gatorade, water, advil. I don’t get them often, but that’s for the horsehide monster ones.

12:40
Comment From Jimmers
The yankees have talked to the Cubs about the SS surplus.. Do you see them flipping some of their catching depth for a SS? (Lets say J.R Murphy + for one of em)?

12:40
Eno Sarris: I say TINSTAACP so I don’t know if Theo does it. But Castro has to be more available these days…

12:41
Comment From john
Bowden suggested the Mets trade Murphy and Colon to the A’s for Milone, Cook, and Frieman. Its a good thing he isnt a GM anymore right?

12:41
Eno Sarris: huh

12:41
Comment From Pablo
Favorite SS prospect?

12:41
Eno Sarris: Addison Russell maybe.

12:42
Comment From Guest
Which is the Bettser Long-term Betts? Mookie or Arismendy? Anyone else?

12:42
Eno Sarris: Betts much higher floor, and I like high floors. Busts suck.

12:42
Comment From Miketron
O’Flaherty or Shawn Kelley as an under-the-radar holds play?

12:42
Eno Sarris: Huh. A’s will need a lefty with Doolittle closing, and I love Kelley’s K rate. A’s will win more games, so him.

12:43
Comment From Action Jaxson
In a keeper league in which I’m contending, should I still deal Arcia for Gardner even if I have to add in something else?

12:44
Eno Sarris: yeah, Arcia is a one-tooler in a bad park for that tool, IMO. I see very little unsustainable about Gardner right now.

12:44
Comment From MookieMonster
Eno, you know what would be cool? If you guys at FG came up with a risk index to evaluate players for fantasy purposes, actually it could be for both baseball and fantoball. I’m not sure exactly how to go about it, but age, injury history, performance history etc to establish a players risk. I know Zimm is already doing stuff with injo risk.

12:44
Eno Sarris: Well Zimm has HURT and PAIN for major leaguers. And it would be nice to turn Chris St. John’s work into bust%s for prospects.

12:44
Comment From Art Vandelay
Now Lind goes down for 6-8 weeks. Are the Blue Jays done? It seems like it’s going to take more than a couple moves to get them back as the AL East favorite.

12:45
Eno Sarris: They have the bats. I think a major arm acquisition like Lee would put them in the mix. I think Yankees will fall out, so TOR v BAL is manageable for both.

12:45
Comment From Bruce
Last night I BBQd a burger IN the bun. Juices drip into the bun instead of the coals. It was fantastic

12:45
Eno Sarris: Didn’t the bun just totally fall apart? Double bun?

12:46
Comment From Bart
Please rank for ROS: Adams, Morneau, V Martinez, Belt. Thanks.

12:46
Eno Sarris: Martinez Adams Belt Morneau

12:46
Comment From Eggs Odorizzi
I’m in 4th place in my keep league and all 10 teams are going all-in. Would it be smart or stupid to start a firesale in hopes that I’ll have trade leverage as the only seller?

12:46
Eno Sarris: Do it with one or two guys and see what the offers look like. You might get some tasty young guys and still stay in it.

12:47
Eno Sarris: In other words, call it a fire sale, see what offers you get, but be measured about it. Obviously your team is close.

12:47
Comment From Jimmers
Is it time to take notice of Robert Refsnyder? He is 4.1 years younger than the avg AAA [player and hitting .320 .447 .550 .997 with 22/24 BB/K

12:47
Eno Sarris: He’s old, so you have to take that into consideration. But can he better than Roberts? Probably.

12:48
Comment From Bruce
What level of pitcher can I target in roto for my Addison Russel? Or should I just hold and enjoy

12:48
Eno Sarris: It is more crowded now, should be able to get a good pitcher and if not, just hold.

12:48
Comment From Guest
I know you like Kipnis, but is he droppable in a 10-team mixed if I have Rendon?

12:48
Eno Sarris: Seems like he would make a good util/bench guy as you hold and hope he refinds his value. Stealing again!

12:49
David Mihai Chira:

12:49
Comment From chris
Is David Freese just a tease?

12:49
Eno Sarris: good against lefties!

12:49
Comment From Eric
Brad Miller Last 30: .279/.330/.442. That the real Brad Miller or him just getting ready to crush our dreams again?

12:49
Eno Sarris: well the real brad miller is probably around .250, but thank god he’s cromulent again

12:50
Comment From CuriousCat
Do you think Tanaka will require TJ? Is this a function of classic Japanese pitchers plowing through innings in high school/ japanese league

12:51
Eno Sarris: Japanese pitchers in Japan have TJ half as much as they do in America. Less than half. Our pitchers low through innings too (194 in Washington this year). Our pitchers pitch pitch year round from an early age. Japan? Give their pitchers more rest between starts, and do more warm-up, warm-down stuff than ours.

12:51
Eno Sarris: I think we should do the six-man rotation. http://www.sportsonearth.co…

12:52

Is Cliff Lee coming back going to be like me trading for an Ace?

12:52
Eno Sarris: Yes.

12:52
Comment From David
Hello Eno! Gotta have an answer by 12:30 or my lineup freezes … take a chance on Hector Santiago today @ TEX?

12:52
Eno Sarris: !NO

12:52
Comment From Jimbo
Isnt George Springer simply fascinating? He kind of embodies what offense is today, sell out for power, dont worry about K’s, be cost effective and don’t run into outs.

12:52
Eno Sarris: Yeah he couldn’t play in another era, probably.

12:53
Comment From Nelson
How many passports do you own and how can you play for 3 World Cup teams at once?

12:53
Comment From Jimbo
How are you catching up to the Que?

12:53
Eno Sarris: 1221 mini lude

Comment From Sadwick
I’m in Chicago the second week of August, any chance you guys will have a meet up around then? Also, any suggestions for beer/food on the trip are welcome.

12:54
Eno Sarris: meetup next week in chicago, so out of luck there. Half Acre. Map room. Pipeworks. Rev Brewing. Damn, the sandwich place skips my mind, but great Italian sandwich place. Go to Goose Island Clyebourne.

Do you like Stroman and Gausman for the second half? Keep either one over useful types like H. Alvarez, Morton or Colon in a QS league?

12:54
Eno Sarris: Gausman over Colon seems like something I would do. Dunno if you should, but I like upside.

12:55
Comment From Paulie Walnuts
Please help me. Been offered Longo/Lucroy for Altuve. That’s a slam dunk, right? I need the advice of the great Eno desperately.

12:55
Eno Sarris: What’s your replacement 2b? top-three C, top-half 3B… top 2b. It’s not a slam dunk if your C and 3B are okay.

12:56
LSDISGOOD4U:

12:56
Comment From Guest
Is Betts a decent keeper if he loses 2B for CF/RF?

12:56
Eno Sarris: Lesser keeper in CF. I do think he can .280/15/30 at some point.

12:56
Comment From Guest
JD Martinez adopts Miggy Cabrera’s swing and approach and finds success. Charlie Morton does the same with Roy Halladay’s delivery. Playing baseball is simple, right?

12:57
Eno Sarris: Cept they copying, and they won’t execute at the same level forever.

Jordan Zimmermann has quietly upped his K% 3 % while maintaining minuscule walk rate. Has he slipped into the best dozen or so starters in baseball?

Is there a reason why people think Ben Zobrist is better right now than Daniel Murphy?

12:57
Eno Sarris: At this point, you have to think Murphy will steal more bases, hit for similar or only slightly less power, and destroy him in BA.

12:58
Comment From Poops McGee
I remember either you or Nick saying a while back that Quintana is fungible in mixed leagues. Do you think he is? His peripherals look quietly excellent and I wonder if he’s due for regression or underrated due to lack of former prospect status

12:58
Eno Sarris: He’s more than the sum of his parts due to good command. If he was in a different home park, I think he’d be less fungible.

The reason the TJ rate in Japan has historically been so low: Pitchers are expected to pitch through pain and soreness far, far more than in the US. Pitchers just pitch through the pain due to the stigma attached to admitting to injury, which means they just get washed out of the league rather than have TJ. Far too many solid pitchers end up out of baseball (or in one of the corporate leagues). That said: TJs are waaaay way up in Japan: They’ve had more in the last four years than the previous 20 combined.

1:29
Eno Sarris: I’ll have to look at the survivor bias, but even with TJs being up, they’re less than 50% American number. I can’t believe that survivor bias explains it all.

1:38
Eno Sarris: LD% might be the worst, most sneaky, most misleading stat we carry. It’s not sticky, ever, and it’s just so terrible.

1:38

So are you super excited to get to chat with Samardzija about splitter grips ALL THE TIME now?

Eno Sarris: Yes, I love that he has two splits, or that he shoves the ball in deeper for more movement on two strikes. But I had a big piece with him already and Laurila did too, so I’ll take some time.

Bye midday Thursday chatting friend!

Read him here, writing about the A's or Giants at The Athletic, or about beer at October. Follow him on Twitter @enosarris if you can handle the sandwiches and inanity.
