Eno Sarris: His personal batting coach left town and he took off. He’s now adjusted and adjusted back in the same season, and he was in the bigs a little early because of his glove. I’d be comfortable with projecting him for 15-18 homers next year.

hello eno! people have been talking lately about the WC playoff game being unfair, potentially putting the second-best team in the league in a one-game playoff while teams much worse can safely wait in the DS. why not have the same 5 eligible teams, but then have the teams with the two worst records play in a one-gamer, regardless of whether they won the division or not? cheers to beers btw!

Why do articles about Boston bring out the worst in everyone? We usually have a nice little community, but things get real ugly when the Sox are brought up.

Eno Sarris: You know they hired diPoto too, even in the interim. I think the figurehead is a little overrated. Think about the offensive coordinator hired to be a head football coach. Do those teams get really awesome at offense or do they lose a great offensive coordinator who has to try and run the whole team suddenly? DD may have a scouting background, but he’ll listen to the numbers wonks.

Eno Sarris: As for the rest… just happens I guess. Certain communities are more active online, and it’s not even about popularity of the team always.

Eno Sarris: I think you’re probably taking things to an extreme. But I wouldn’t be surprised if Ruth would be more Dunn like in today’s game. I wasn’t alive then, but I’m fairly certain he couldn’t have also been a pitcher in today’s game at the very least.

Is Jorge Soler droppable in a 5×5 12-team mixed redraft? His ownership rates are still so high, but it feels like everyone’s still waiting for a breakout that just isn’t coming this year. ROS, is he appreciably better than widely-available guys like Marcell Ozuna or Avisail Garcia?

Eno Sarris: If you had named better outfielders, I could see it. But those guys are pretty much in the same exact boats, and I like Soler’s talent level the best.

Eno Sarris: Some in that clubhouse thought it was possible on Tuesday. He had 87 innings last year, around 70 now…. they do need to push him to at least 100 so that he can be useful sooner rather than later.

Eno Sarris: Pedroia first. Duffy actually makes more contact than Forsythe, and they both projected for about 5 stolen bases plus homers, so take your pick.

Do you worry about Chris Davis continuing to be inconsistent in the future and streaky due to the swing and miss in his game, or can he consistently challenge for the HR title while keeping his average above the mendoza line (with a good OBP)?

Eno Sarris: I think he’s a slow adjuster, basically. Look at how long it took him to figure out the big leagues the first time. Then they figured him out back and it took forever again to get going. He’ll probably just have good half-season and bad half-seasons going forward until it’s just all bad and he doesn’t have the athleticism to adjust back again.

Who to drop? Gausman, Wood, Rodon… Gausy seems to miss his spots, constantly, his arsenal looks so vanilla sometimes. Rodon looks like he might have figured it out and Wood’s SwStrike rate is abysmal. Thoughts?

Eno Sarris: Tough one. I’m stuck on Wood right now. Just interviewed him. He moved on the rubber, and I think that might help him with the breaking ball. But that was like six starts ago and the Ks have begun to dwindle again. In a redraft I might drop Rodon but he has the best upside of the group. God I guess it’s Wood. Gausman’s curve has potential to make it work, and his K-bb has been better recently.

Eno Sarris: Yes I like him. Has strong peripherals. He still loses like a tick-plus on the gun over the course of a game, but even at 91.5 in the fifth, he’s average in velocity. Still has strong slider/change combo.

Sorry for harassing your twitter instead of utilizing the chat. In a bind, I can keep 4 in a 5×5 + TB/OBP: Dee, Mookie, Marte, JD Mart, Puig, Belt, Dickerson, Odor. Ideally I keep the top 3, and I deal the rest for a stud because I wont make playoffs.

Eno Sarris: Damn that’s tough. Nice to get steals with high TB in Betts and Marte. I think I’d actually use Dee to get the stud. Dee plus JDM could get you a top-shelfer, and then you could plug in Puig at the back end. I’d try to trade into the infield though.

Eno Sarris: I doubt they react to one signing like that. But maybe a few ones. I mean I hated the Olivera signing and they jettisoned him quickly too. Maybe a couple misses in a row are meaningful here? Could also just be Friedman slowly running the place like he wants to.

How much influence do “check-ins” have on the scores at BeerGraphs? Heady Topper is so popular and renown, that couldn’t it be artifically scoring high bc everyone knows about it and wants it, while it may not be “better” than other DIPAs?

Eno Sarris: We have to give checkin count some credit because the 50-check-in beer does not have the same weight as a 5000 check in beer. We use a log scale so that it doesn’t give the beer too much credit for just a few more checkins.

Do most (or any) pitchers have a “win bonus” tied into their contracts? If so, Shelby Miller should be a case study as to why no pitcher should be subjected to that kind of tomfoolery.

Eno Sarris: I know that the rules changed recently. You can’t do performance bonuses based on some of those things, like you can’t do saves. You can do games finished, because that’s just like PA or IP, but I think you can’t do saves and wins any mores.

I was really, really into Bob Marley for a long time until I learned he was a huge perpetrator of domestic violence. I have a hard time separating the artist from the art, which is my problem and admittedly leads me to not enjoy certain works of art that I would otherwise I love.
