Eric Longenhagen Prospects Chat 8/22

12:31
Eric A Longenhagen: Hi, everyone. I sending something to Cistulli and will begin momentarily….

12:34
Eric A Longenhagen: Okay, apologies.

12:34
Eric A Longenhagen: Let’s begin.

12:34
Mike: SSS, but seems like Aramis Ademan is holding his own in A ball. Thoughts on him?

12:35
Eric A Longenhagen: I really like him. Good frame, athleticism, smooth defensive actions at short. Has doubles power right now but might grow into a bit more. That might mean he moves off of short and over to second but I still think there’s a potential everyday player there even if that’s the case.

12:35
Kevbot034: Walker Buehler, Fernando Romero, Jack Flaherty and Brent Honeywell…who do you think we see this September? And any have a shot at starting next year in the rotation?

12:38
Eric A Longenhagen: Buehler seems most likely and I think he’d be an asset to LA’s playoff roster if they really want to be aggressive but they’re the season’s dominant club and may not feel a need to push Buehler’s innings when the righties in the big league bullpen are pitching well.

12:39
Eric A Longenhagen: Honeywell, I really doubt that. Tampa is done, he’s not on the 40 man

12:39
Eric A Longenhagen: Romero and Flaherty, I don’t have immediate thoughts on

12:39
ChiSox2020: What should White Sox fans expect from Micker Adolfo?

12:40
Eric A Longenhagen: He’s always had power but has dealt with multiple injuries and took horrendous at-bats when healthy at the lowest levels. It’s nice to see he might be putting it together.

12:40
DR: Is Adam Haseley more of a quick to the majors average OF?  Or is there star potential there

12:41
Eric A Longenhagen: Can’t see him hitting for the kind of game power needed for stardom. 55 glove in CF, potential plus hitter, runs well. More of a table setter and well-rounded player than a star.

12:41
Los doyers: Hey boss, in your recent Dodgers prospect list, you were exceedingly positive on yusniel diaz and starling heredia. Any recent reports that fueled those rankings?

12:43
Eric A Longenhagen: Diaz made adjustments and hit well in the Cal League after frustrating scouts (albeit as a 19-year old) last year and is now having early success at Double-A. Seeing players make adjustments is huge for scouts because they have to do it constantly at the big league level. Diaz is still raw in some respects but is a good bet to be an everyday big league outfielder.

12:45
Eric A Longenhagen: Heredia is kind of a freak. He’s a husky kid but can really run and has plus-plus bat speed. It isn’t always pretty right now but he was just too physical for the Pioneer League and I thought it was good they got him out of there. I expect him to struggle a bit at Great Lakes but think he’ll be fine.

12:45
Fred: Would you see any benefit to giving Heliot Ramos a few games in A ball at the end of the year?

12:47
Eric A Longenhagen: I’d let him be part of the AZL playoff run. They have a fun group here, talented, energetic and entertaining. Ramos is at the center of that on the field and keeping things light in the dugout. I’d let this group make a run together.

12:48
Colin: Eric, thanks for chatting! Has this been a growth year for Touki, or are all of his same issues still present to similar degrees?

12:49
Eric A Longenhagen: He’s still a bit erratic but has convinced a few more people that he can be a long term starter.

12:50
Ryan: Do you see Max Pentecoast ever making it to the big leagues considering age/position/injuries/stage of development?

12:50
Eric A Longenhagen: I think he hits enough to make it, I’m just not sure what his ultimate role might be given how limited he is on the defensive side.

12:50
Timmy Zaj: When will Michael Kopech be in the majors?

12:52
Eric A Longenhagen: As with all ETA questions, I really don’t know. He isn’t on the 40 man.

12:52
Pill: The Nationals have traded a lot of pitching the past year. After Fedde, who’s your favorite pitcher in the system? Is it really down to Romero and Crowe now?

12:53
Eric A Longenhagen: Those are the next two guys but I’m a fan of Brigham Hill, too.

12:54
Terry: What’s the outlook for jalen beeks? Will his stuff play at the major league level as a starter or is his success at aaa more like 4A overachievement?

12:55
Eric A Longenhagen: Scout with whom I spoke saw Beeks last year in AFL and again this season, considers him a reliever. That’s where I was last fall, too. I’m still there.

12:56
FireDrayton: AJ Reed: quad-A all star? Post-hype sleeper? None of the above?

12:58
Eric A Longenhagen: I’ve never been a huge Reed proponent but I think the combination of power and patience makes him a likely big league mainstay, even if he’s only a low-end to average regular.

12:58
Eric A Longenhagen: I like him more than, say, Vogelbach.

12:59
Timmy Zaj: What do you think about seby zevala, or does a catcher hitting well in a ball have any projectability?

12:59
Eric A Longenhagen: I do like Seby. I think the swing and miss will rear its head at upper levels but he could be a power-over-hit backup.

1:00
SC: Danny Jensen: great prospect or greatest prospect? (I suppose marginal prospect should also be an option).

1:00
Eric A Longenhagen: He’s in today’s daily notes, which I’ll link to in here once they’re posted.

1:01
Eric A Longenhagen: Short answer right now is: He can catch and has been exceptional this year, so exceptional that it’s hard to imagine him sustaining this level of contact.

1:01
RobSea: Yo Eric! Has the hype cooled a bit on Quantrill? Looking at his K rate in AA, not the most inspiring. Is he looking more like a 2/3 than a 2 at this point?

1:05
Eric A Longenhagen: I wouldn’t say ‘cooled’ but it sounds like peoples’ expectations were a bit warped. A 2/3 starter is a 3-4 WAR pitcher are only a handful of guys like that in baseball. That’s what I think Quantrill has a chance to max out as if the breaking ball improves. He throws hard and has a plus changeup and solid command. We’ve seen pitchers have success just doing that and I still think Quantrill has a good shot to be an above average big league starter.

1:05
Sean: Is Ryan Mountcastle the next Paul DeJong, big bat who doesn’t seem to be a great fit at the position?

1:05
Eric A Longenhagen: Mountcastle is Hit over Power, DeJong is the opposite.

1:06
Joe: Does Pirates SS Stephen Alemais have the best glove in their system? Also seems like he’s finally showing some offense since being promoted to Bradenton

1:07
Eric A Longenhagen: Yes, better glove than Newman, Tucker, Cruz, Kramer, etc. Still not totally sold on his bat playing every day.

1:07
The Average Sports Fan: Do you think Jesse Winker can develop enough power to be more than a 4th OF?

1:08
Eric A Longenhagen: I think he hits enough to play every day even without prototypical power. If I’m wrong then I’m not sure what he is because he’s a LF-only for me. I’d like my 4th OF to be able to go get it in CF.

1:08
pirates hurdles: Has Pirates 17th rounder Mason Martin done enough to put himself on the map this summer?

1:11
Eric A Longenhagen: He’s hit enough that I’ve had to ask around on him and double check my area code notes from last year. He has strength-driven power. Mostly 1B for scouts I’ve spoken with, some think he could play an OF corner. Either way, lotta pressure on the bat. He’s off to a great start but I’m still a bit apprehensive.

1:11
Jim: Have a few names, wondering if you could share what you know about them bc info is scarce: Oscar Gonzalez (CLE), Gabriel Maciel (ARI), Gilbert Celestino (HOU)

1:13
Eric A Longenhagen: Yeah, I’ve written about these three at various times. Gonzalez takes big, beer league softball hacks and is a very aggressive hitter but he has above average raw power and some physical projection left, so he may grow into more. Maciel is a 70 runner. He’s small and very unlikely to hit for power which might limit his ability to reach base as he moves up and pitchers attack him free of worry that he might do damage on his own.

1:14
Eric A Longenhagen: Celestino is the best prospect of that group. Good all-around feel for baseball, I like the glove in CF and his chances of growing into some modest offensive impact. He’s got a better chance to be an everyday big leaguer than the other two.

1:14
Jr.: Do you think Tatis Jr. can stay at ss?

1:14
Eric A Longenhagen: For a while, yeah. I think he’ll outgrow it eventually but he does some incredibly athletic things there right now.

1:16
Sir Nerdlington: Your 8/8 prospect notes were pretty rosy about Michel Baez.  Where is his FV/ceiling for you now? 2020 debut?

1:17
Eric A Longenhagen: The dot-connectors among you can spot exactly where each FV tier starts and ends on the updated 100

1:17
Jr.: Who is the best 2018 draft prospect?

1:20
Eric A Longenhagen: It’s early for such declaration but I have been thinking about it lately. The college arms who I’ve had atop my board at this point in the process had mixed junior years. Alex Faedo, Alec Hansen both had mixed results. So I’m not comfortable anointing Brady Singer at this point but he’s the highest profile college arm at this point. Kumar Rocker has the best stuff on the high school side, his size creates some dissent among scouts who worry he’s too big, and Tyler Kolek (who didn’t carry his weight as well as Rocker does) is casting a recent shadow on that profile.

1:21
Eric A Longenhagen: As far as hitters go, I love Brice Turang’s athleticism and glove but some scouts can’t see taking a guy without an impact bat at the top of the draft. Jared Kelenic has a well-rounded skillset but no elite tools.

1:21
Eric A Longenhagen: College bats look meh. I like Jeremy Eierman.

1:22
NihilistDuda: Thoughts on Mark Vientos in the Mets system. Seems to be adjusting to pro ball nicely. Also, any risers in the Mets system. The narrative has been kinda meh on the system as a whole. Thanks for the chat Eric.

1:22
Eric A Longenhagen: Young for the draft class, solid athlete, lots of physical projection. Probably not a shortstop long term but might  be a good defensive third baseman who grows into some power and already has okay feel to hit.

1:23
Pablo: Troy Stokes Jr is outperforming several more highly-touted Brewer prospects, even after being bumped to AA, plus he’s only 21. Think he’s a legit MLB prospect?

1:23
Eric A Longenhagen: Yes

1:23
RobSea: Of the Pads’ Almanzar, Rosario, Barley, Lopez… have they looked like good investments so far. Do you predict one will be a top 50 prospect at some point?

1:25
Eric A Longenhagen: They’re all great investments. The CBA limits Latin American bonuses so much that literally all of these kids are great investments even if they don’t pan out because, when they do, they’re far more valuable to clubs than that initial bonus. Rosario is struggling, getting by on his hand-eye coordination right now while struggling with timing. He’s also been benched down here for something effort/discipline related. Everyone else has been quite good, Barley has come along quicker than I expected.

1:25
mario mendoza: Which MiLB player is most absolutely ready for majors but without a shot?

1:25
Eric A Longenhagen: Honeywell

1:26
Babe Lincoln: How much do you pay attention to prospects once they’ve reached MLB?  Or does your focus stay pretty exclusively on MiLB guys?

1:27
Eric A Longenhagen: It’s mixed. There’s so much I have to cover that I have little time to keep up with things I don’t but I try to watch as much big league stuff as possible. Obviously it’s easy to look at how they’re performing on-paper.

1:27
Fred: Any word why Alex Faedo hasn’t pitched?  Just a heavy college workload?

1:28
Eric A Longenhagen: I assume so, haven’t heard anything.

1:28
DDP: Quick thoughts on the angels farm system? Are they finally on the up swing? Jones and Adell in top 100, Marsh on the fringes seems like a good place to start.

1:28
Eric A Longenhagen: Yes, things are looking up. The guys you mentioned plus lots of young, projectable Latin American pitching.

1:28
RobSea: So it looks like the Padres are using Hunt, Campusano and Homza at C. Have you seen any yet and do you project any as future top 100s?

1:30
Eric A Longenhagen: Seen all. Homza and Camupsano are long term projects, defensively. Hunt has less potential offensive impact than Campusano-Bracero but is the most polished defender of the group. Top 100? I’m not sure why that distinction matters to people so much, but yeah I think LCB has the best chance for that.

1:31
Philip from New New York: Did Wilkel Hernandez get any consideration for the Angels top 10? He seems to be pretty similar to Soriano from the reports that I’ve seen. Hector Yan is another guy I’m interested in, but I think he’s a tier below Soriano and Hernandez. Do you have any little birds on these two?

1:31
Eric A Longenhagen: Speaking of that young Angels pitching…

1:32
Eric A Longenhagen: I like Soriano’s curveball feel more than Wilkel’s, he also throws just a tick harder. Yan lacks the others’ physical projection.

1:32
Sally B.: Any prospects make improvements and catch your eye recently? Looking for some under-the-radar guys that I might snag in a league with 190+ prospects!

1:33
Eric A Longenhagen: I’d advise you to read the Daily Prospect Notest

1:34
Tondo: What’s the scouts’ take on switch hitting MIF Sam Haggerty?

1:36
Eric A Longenhagen: Solid bat-to-ball skills from both sides of the plate, good idea of the strike zone. Didn’t anticipate this kind of stolen base output and am struggling to remember now if he dealt with injuries at New Mexico that might have obscured that tool.

1:36
Sad Tigers Fan: Looking more and more like Funkhouser’s season is done. The good news is he’s recovering just fine from the elbow scare, but he was looking really good and back like the prospect everyone expected him to be when drafted. Encouraged by his season?

1:37
Eric A Longenhagen: Encouraged by the uptick in stuff he experienced pre-injury (especially with the changeup) but discouraged by the injury.

1:37
Philip from New New York: Michael Hermosillo turned it around after a slow start at AA and is now at AAA doing quite nicely. Does he have a reasonable shot as a MLB regular?

1:38
Eric A Longenhagen: He’s interesting. Raw feel to hit. I’d be surprised if he were ever more than a 40 hitter. But he’s a good athlete with a two-sport background and he’s from the midwest, sometimes it takes a bit longer for this type of player to put it together. I think it’s more likely he’s a bench outfielder than  a regular but he’s a prospect.

1:38
CW: Have you had a chance to see JP Crawford recently?  Seems like hes made some kind of adjustment.

1:40
Eric A Longenhagen: Saw him in May and thought he looked okay, couldn’t see anything indicative of his horrendous start. It sounds like he’s finally finding comfort with his footwork in the box, something he’s constantly tinkered with as a pro. I think he’s going to be fine. I’m down on him compared to how I had him evaluated last offseason but still think he’ll be a good everyday player.

1:41
RobSea: Is Jorge Ona not quite as toolsy as he looked before signing? While he has a good BA, he’s a relatively advanced 20 year old in A-. Do his tools actually play as more middling?

1:42
Eric A Longenhagen: More middling on paper. Hasn’t gotten to all of the raw power, he keeps opening up toward the 3B line and it’s hard for hhim to drive the ball the other way

1:43
Outta my way, Gyorkass: You had mentioned Phil Bickford’s early results since returning from his drug suspension in your prospect notes today – what do you think of him long term? Does he have a future with MIL, or is he a guy that the Brewers eventually leave unprotected from Rule 5 and wind up losing in a crowded system?

1:44
Eric A Longenhagen: He could be a #4. Fastball mostly 90-93, I’ve seen him reach back for as much as 95 but not recently. Stuff was up last outing compared to the one before it so maybe it will keep trending that way. It plays up due to deception/extension. He’ll flash an above average slider. Changeups are rare. He’s going to need a third pitch and continue to spot the fastball.

1:44
Peter: I think the next big WAS prospect is Yasel Antuna. Yea or nay?

1:44
Eric A Longenhagen: I got to say the nay no my damie.

1:45
Tondo: Have you seen the Indians top 3 draft picks Q.Holmes, T.Freeman and J.Rodriguez in the AZL? How did they look?

1:46
Eric A Longenhagen: Holmes looks predictably raw, Freeman is polished and effective but not overly toolsy, Rodriguez I’ve only seen once.

1:46
Trey Ball: 18 yr old Hudson Potts has been hitting bombs this year. Are you a believer? Besides the strikeouts, what are the flaws in his game?

1:46
Eric A Longenhagen: I am. Good defensive infielder who has grown into some power.

1:47
Dave Mc: Is Rowdy Tellez done as a prospect? Rough year.

1:47
Eric A Longenhagen: No. I’m a Tellez skeptic but a bad year at Triple-A from a 22-year old is not a death sentence.

1:48
georgehermanski: You listed Daniel Flores, catcher,  as a top Red Sox  prospect. The link to him shows a pitcher in the Mexican league. Please tell me something about YOUR D Flores. Thanks

1:48
Eric A Longenhagen: Go check out our July 2 coverage on the Sortable Board

1:48
Al: How do you feel about Chris Seise?

1:48
Eric A Longenhagen: Love how smooth he is at short for his size, haven’t seen him do much with the bat.

1:49
Seattle206: Who is the pitcher in the Mariners system that has the highest ceiling? Highest floor?

1:49
Eric A Longenhagen: Ceiling: Carlson

1:49
Eric A Longenhagen: Floor: Hultzen

1:49
Eric A Longenhagen: Sorry, Neidert.

1:50
mario mendoza: Marc Hulet has written that McMahon’s arm is wasted at 1B…  does he have the range to be in a corner OF spot (a la Hoskins) or 3B (in a world without Arenado?)

1:50
Eric A Longenhagen: Yeah, I think he’s athletic enough to play an OF corner.

1:50
Eric A Longenhagen: He just doesn’t have the hands for 2B

1:50
Trey Ball: Which Yankees high-ceiling prospect do you prefer more, and why? Luis Medina or Jorge Guzman? Thank you.

1:50
Eric A Longenhagen: Guzman. There are strikes already.

1:51
D.Simmons: What are your thoughts on Fringe Five faves Tim Locastro and Pedro Avila?

1:51
Eric A Longenhagen: Wrote up Avila on yesterday’s daily notes, Locastro is all Carson’s, not on him.

1:51
K26dp: KLaw recently said that he could see Cristian Pache settling in with ~20 HR power. Do you concur?

1:52
Eric A Longenhagen: That’s probably on the high end of what I think is possible but Pache has the frame to add that kind of strength.

1:53
Eric A Longenhagen: BTW, Keith made me get up early to go on the BBTN pod today: http://www.espn.com/espnradio/play?id=20417723

1:53
Eric A Longenhagen: Also, here are today’s daily notes: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/instagraphs/daily-prospect-notes-822/

1:53
Eric A Longenhagen: Send Carson good vibes on Twitter for turning them around so quickly.

1:54
Jason: Bryon Buxton has been otherworldly since July. Has he arrived? If he maintains this type of offense and defense next season…where would that put him in the league for value compared to others? Top 50, 20, 10..?

1:55
Eric A Longenhagen: I really hope he has because it will give me someone to point to and say, “Remember what we said? Please be patient with Prospect X when he struggles at the big league level for a while.”

1:55
Eric A Longenhagen: Like literally I expect to do this with Moncada next year.

1:56
Wright: I know I shouldn’t worry over Dom Smith with just 40 AB’s but I’m worried. Is that dumb?

1:56
Eric A Longenhagen: SEE?

1:56
Eric A Longenhagen: Don’t sweat it, Wright. You’re like most baseball fans.

1:56
WhamBam: Do you have any info on Pirates 17-yo Michell Miliano?

1:57
Eric A Longenhagen: Padres, you mean, and yeah I saw him last week. 88-91 for the most part, curveball feel. Still very green and yes, still just 17.

1:58
Dave Mc: No love for Tanner Scott on your mid season Oriole list? Other evaluations seem to rank him higher.

1:59
Eric A Longenhagen: Meh. He throws really hard but has poor command and I don’t know if that slider will miss bats. He’s a prospect, but I’d rather have the guys who have a shot to start.

2:00
Trey Ball: Can we get your thoughts on Miguel Aparicio in the Rangers organization? Thanks

2:00
Eric A Longenhagen: Advanced bat and feel for CF. Physical tools aren’t superlative so the ceiling is limited but he’s a very good prospect

2:01
Julio Pepper: Should Yandy Diaz be in the major leagues? He’s wrecking AAA, and Steamer absolutely loves him. Has your opinion of him changed at all in the past year?

2:01
Eric A Longenhagen: I think Yandy could be a solid big league utility guy right now, yes. That’s also what I think his long term role will be.

2:01
mario mendoza: Who’s this guy Sherfy, ARI RP with the insane MiLB K%? Lockdown reliever or just another quad A pitcher?

2:01
Eric A Longenhagen: Mid-90s with a plus slider, just hasn’t been able to stay healthy.

2:02
Chris: Why after the year that Ron Acuna has had is he not higher in your prospect rankings?

2:03
Eric A Longenhagen: Because I like 4 guys in the minors (5 on the entire planet) more than him?

2:03
Nate: Do you see Giolito getting back to what he was when he was a top 5 prospect? I know command/control is his biggest issue, is there any hope he can be a 2-3 BB/9 pitcher?

2:04
Eric A Longenhagen: More low-to-mid 90s, will flash that plus curveball, a hard above average slider and above average changeup but will struggling with command. I think he’ll get there and be an above average big league starter eventually.

2:04
Old timer: Donnie Dewees.  Likelihood he is a CF and will he be at least a second division regular?  Many thanks.

2:04
Eric A Longenhagen: Some scouts think the arm limits him to LF-only.

2:06
Havok: All 2nd generation IF of Kacy Clemons and 1b, Cavan Biggo 2b, Bo Bichette SS and Vlad Jr at 3b has to happen just 1 time at some point… right? Even if it’s just Spring Training.

2:06
Eric A Longenhagen: Oh I truly hope so.

2:07
Q-Ball: What is your take on the trend of teams making commitments to IFAs that are younger and younger?  Badler says teams are locking-up 14 year olds?  That can’t be good, right?

2:08
Eric A Longenhagen: It gives me the creeps. If there were a clear solution to this kind of stuff that didn’t involve totally screwing the players over with a draft, I’d love to see it implemented. I have no idea what that might be.

2:09
Zonk: Any surprises so far from the 2017 Draft Class, positive or negative?

2:09
Eric A Longenhagen: Have I mentioned Wyatt Mills in the chat yet?

2:09
Steve : So the Red Sox basically emptied the farm to put this team together and this core should be competing for the next 3 years. Are they capable of restocking the farm system so that they don’t crater when this team starts breaking up? What do they need to do to be successful in this regard?

2:12
Eric A Longenhagen: Obviously most of the high-end talent atop the system has either graduated, is going to shortly (Devers) or been traded but there’s still some star potential in Groome and Flores, a host of interesting young Latin American players and several draftees who have a chance to play regular big league roles (Brannen, Ockimey, Chatham, a bunch of pitchers who coul dbe 4/5 starters) so I think they’re in okay shape and their ability to dip into the international pool annually will help them get high end talent they probably won’t get in the draft as they’ll be picking later.

2:14
Gibby: What is one to make of Danny Jansen (Blue Jay prospect)? He was not particularly highly regarded as far as prospects go, but has hit a ton on all three stops this year.

2:15
Eric A Longenhagen: He’s wearing glasses now. Glasses. Seriously.

2:16
NYTT: How surprised are you that Gohara has risen as fast as he has this year?

2:16
Eric A Longenhagen: Not terribly, elite fastball velo for a lefty starter, doesn’t miss in bad spots with that slider. He’s very good.

2:16
Troutmaggedon: What type of power upside does Willy Adames have?

2:17
Eric A Longenhagen: 18–22 annual homers, maybe a tick more

2:18
Iron Mike: Hey Eric, don’t think is your area specifically, but I’ll ask anyway: do you have any insight on why the Orioles don’t develop pitching well? They’ve had a bunch of guys (Arrieta, Tillman, Gausman, Bundy, Sedlock, etc.). Hard to blame them for Harvey, but what gives?

2:18
Eric A Longenhagen: I agree it seems to be an issue but I have no idea why. Harvey has been 93-96 lately, fwiw.

2:19
Scott: You said reviews on Maitan have been mixed. Can you add anymore? Mixed as in bad or mixed as in good and bad? He’s obviously not tearing it up in rookie league.

2:19
Eric A Longenhagen: Scouts are concerned how quickly his body has matured.

2:19
BB guy: Do the reds promote nick senzel in september?  what have they got to lose?

2:19
Eric A Longenhagen: I don’t think so, Eugenio Suarez has a pretty tight grip on that gig.

2:20
Tondo: So, Nolan Jones is a pretty good prospect, right? Why do you have Benson ahead of him?

2:20
Eric A Longenhagen: Benson’s upside is enormous if he ever starts hitting.

2:20
Carl: Is Corbin Burnes still to be viewed as a 40FV prospect? Has his performance this season changed yours and others views of him, or is he expected to fall off as he moves up?

2:21
Eric A Longenhagen: He’s moved up for me.

2:22
Bleh: you say Heredia was “too physical”.  what do you mean by that?

2:22
Eric A Longenhagen: Much bigger, stronger and more physically mature than most of the other players in the league.

2:23
George: How do you filter out the noise created by the environment of the PCL when evaluating players?

2:23
Eric A Longenhagen: With one’s eyes

2:23
Rangers Suck and are Good: Is Hans Crouse just succeeding on the back of his velocity? I’m far too excited about his 22Ks in 17 innings.

2:23
Eric A Longenhagen: Scouts here love the breaking ball, too.

2:24
Troutmaggedon: What’s the percentage of guys in a top 100 list at any time that will never see the majors or have no mlb impact? 50%? 75%?

2:24
Eric A Longenhagen: Probably 30%.

2:26
Dooduh: What’ your hot take on Aramis Garcia?  Looks like enough stick there to make it as a ML catcher, no?  Trade candidate then..?

2:26
Eric A Longenhagen: 24 year old in Cal League, I’m not there yet

2:26
Derek in Little Rock: Thoughts on Yunior Severino?  He’s young for the level and seemingly holding his own, though the strikeouts are a concern.  Is there an understood benefit of the doubt for a switch hitter attempting to develop two swings?

2:27
Eric A Longenhagen: He takes big, out of control swings so that might be a career-long issues. Probably 2B. Does have power.

2:28
Bitterman : What are your thoughts on prospects?

2:28
Eric A Longenhagen: They might be good let me see them.

2:29
Alex: Do we need to adjust have we view power grades due to the HR spike? We’re living in a world where Scooter can hit 20….

2:31
Eric A Longenhagen: I get anxious about a lot of the tool grade equivalents because so much of the game is evolving so quickly right now. Maybe when the dust settles and we see a more stable statistical environment we can discuss but for now I think there’s more value in the scale’s ability to quickly communicate evaluation than is detracted from it because it isn’t exact flush to actual distribution.

Ham Porter: Are there any prospects that you are sick of getting questions about?

2:32
Eric A Longenhagen: Yes, but I love Chat’s enthusiasm and it doesn’t take much effort to sift through redundant questions.

2:32
Ham Porter: Who is the most overrated/overhyped prospect out there right now?

2:33
Eric A Longenhagen: Conor McGregor

2:34
Jose: Michael Chavis didn’t make your summer top 100. Does he have a chance to make it over the winter? What’re you hearing from scouts?

2:35
Eric A Longenhagen: He does. Hearing the uptick in power is real but there are concerns about the approach. Same as Austin Hays.

2:36
Royce: Do you think Brendan McKay got overrated because of the whole “two-way player” thing? He profiles either as a 20 HR 1B or a #3-4.

2:36
Eric A Longenhagen: He’s properly rated within the industry but gets hyped publicly because the two-way thing is a lot of fun.

2:38
Eric A Longenhagen: Okay, there are still 500 of you here and I’ve maybe gotten to a third of your questions but after two hours, I am spent. Thank you so much for coming, please come back next week. Until then, be well y disfruta beisbol.

What changes (if any) has Billy McKinney (22) made? Between AA/AAA this season, his GB% is at a low 33%. His ISO is at .277 (AAA) and that comes with only a 9.7% SwSt% (AA/AAA). The gain in power has came at AAA (6% HR/FB at AA vs 18.9% in AAA.)
