Allegedly, TMZ sports is hiring new sports commenters–and I cannot think of a better pair of baseball bbwaa auteurs who, on the reg, create a veritable admixture of hot sports opinion, gentleman sausage discussions, and rough profiles of centurion card owners.
Is there going to be a Fangraphs article soon about Luis Cruz’s historically bad offensive year? His current wRC+ of 1 would be the worst single season mark since the start of the live-ball era (min. 300 PA, Cruz curently has 175).
What was the point of this podcast?
I listened for about 15 minutes, then I turned it off. It was totally unbearable and had very little, if anything, to do with baseball.
I understand that Fangraphs think it’s a bit funny or cool to have their featured analysts chit chatting about everything and nothing. Making “coffee talk”.
But if the objective to get returning listeners, and to somehow get some sponsors interested, then the type of podcast that this Dayn Perry/Cistulli colloboration turned out to be, is a one way street with no return.
I expect to get some kind of baseball content when I download the podcast.
Right now it’s Geeks Anonymous, with “querky” inside jokes making me as a listener feel dumb for not understanding the jokes, gags and references.
I write this hoping that it’s taken as constructive critisism.
If this is your first time listening to a Carson/Dayn podcast, then it was unfortunate that Carson did not record his standard introduction with disclaimer that these episodes of the podcast feature essentially no baseball analysis, statistical or otherwise.
So far as the point of the podcast is concerned, I’m not sure there is one, although I do derive pleasure from Dayn’s absurd antics and his seemingly innate ability to make Carson uncomfortable.
You know, I am not totally opposed to the idea of a “coffee talk” podcast, if it’s done in a interesting way, and still contains plenty of baseball.
Eg, I was a big fan of Kevin Goldstein’s podcast when that was around.
But Goldstein always managed to discuss interesting aspects of baseball as well.

It’s a bit like the emperors new clothes. If you don’t “get” the Dayn Perry podcast, you’re not one of the cool guys.
And therefore everyone pretends to understand it: “It’s so totally ironic and supercool dude”.
Again, just trying to give a little constructive critisism.
Hey, here’s an idea….
Don’t listen! Plenty of us do enjoy the Dayn & Carson podcasts and there are plenty more podcasts that include actual baseball discussion.
I have to say that all your points are reasonable and although the “Emperors New Clothes” jab is probably unwarranted–your response indicates this is likely your first time listening and you’re thus unlikely to “get” the nature of the show since it’s humor is fairly meta and draws heavily on the past interactions between the hosts–you nonetheless seem sincere. Thank you for your input. I think many of the Fangraphs podcasts are excellent, and you’ll probably greatly enjoy the Dave Cameron ones.
Now, having said that, you’re 100% wrong about the Perry podcast. Please never listen again and leave the rest of us to this glorious earballs feast. The last thing I want to hear, no offense, is Dayn Perry’s opinion on Ryan Braun. Unless it somehow involves a trip to a Welsh mining town and blood ends with blood on his hands.
No no. No no. The Perry podcasts are the perfect Notgraphs accompaniment.
I have listened to this episode 4 times since downloading it.
To bring to the involved’s attention: According to Wikipedia, someone once used the Centurion Card to buy a fighter plane for 25 million euros. The more you know.
Due to the recent lack of Perry based “pods”, I’ve gone back and downloaded some of the older recordings. What’s nice, is that since there is such little baseball talk, it never seems dated.
If anyone is a fan of the Perry/Cistulli audio work, I would suggest they find the first episode they appeared together. I think it’s titled, “Dayne Perry, Real Author”
My jaw dropped listening to that last weekend. The divergence between now and then is quite notable. Perry seems contained and almost uncomfortable with the process. Of course, that, being the opposite of the”cocksure veteran baseball writer” we’ve grown accustomed to in the last couple years.
All that being said, this episode here, with the American Express black card, is pure radio gold.
How dare BubbaNoTrubba disrespect the memory of the dearly departed Kevin Ductwork by questioning this podcast’s worth.
Cistulli sounds kinda stoned
As a result of my recently developed insomnia, I have listened to every dayn perry podcast, due to the timeless nature of the non baseball discussion they were to some degree enjoyable, however not as enjoyable as sleep. I will say that I’m pretty sure this podcast was peak Cistulli-Perry.
