In the early 90s I took my father to a Mariners game at the Kingdome. He left our seats to get us beers and when he returned he said, quite incredulously, “They asked me for ID!” I asked him how he responded and he said “I told them the last time I had to prove how old I was to drink was during World War Two!”
(Which was undoubtedly true, as he was an RCAF vet in his 70s at the time.)
Does Fangraphs not practice Affirmative Action? There is a noticeable lack of minority hires.
Too many Mariner-Americans, is the probable cause.
On Dave’s last or penultimate podcast, he specifically mentioned that they are trying to increase diversity and he encouraged interested minorities to apply. He also mentioned that they are hoping to eventually add one or more Spanish-language writers. You can’t really hire someone just because they belong to a minority group but it sounds like they are quite cognizant of the fact that the staff are mostly white guys and they welcome voices from different backgrounds.
Y’all have a nice rapport, hope for more talks
Carson gets along better with women, they are not as mean to him as dave was.

Shout out to Gioia del Colle! I have passed thru there several times in the course of my duties as a US government entomologist. IIRC, it more or less sits in a bottleneck of roads between the Bari area and the rest of Apulia. For this reason, it’s not my favorite place down there since you basically need to pass through the chaotic downtown whether you like it or not and the roads, both coming and going, are poorly indicated. Will likely be back there again this spring….
