Today we’re celebrating a first for FanGraphs: a live video stream!

Things have changed since FanGraphs’ founding 15 years ago. Nowadays, there are entire streaming platforms dedicated to communities of people who watch other people play games.

As an experiment (and to help fill the time until baseball comes back), we’re hosting a virtual Opening Day game, with the Mets and Nationals opener livecast by Paul Sporer, Ben Clemens, and Dan Szymborski using MLB The Show 20 on Playstation 4. So come hang out with us and watch the closest thing to a real game available!

To watch the game and listen to our live chat, you need nothing but your browser and our website. If you have a Twitch.tv account (free), you’ll also be able to join in the chat, just like in the ones we hold weekly.

This is awesome! Really like the idea brought up of doing a live MLB the Show stream of the Futures Game too later this year.

Love you guys, but gotta disable the autoplay feature, especially on the home page. Not cool!

I can’t remember the name but I have an extension on chrome that stops videos from autoplaying and it works quite well.

Might be weird or hard to do but I would like to see some classic matchup simulations. For example: two controversial teams from different eras like 1919 White Sox vs. 2017 Astros or dominant teams such as 1927 “Murderers Row” Yankees vs. 2018 Red Sox. I know that the attributes would be hard to input but if each team was era adjusted to their own respective timeframes, the teams could then be pitted against one another?

would be fun to see some older baseball video games streamed too, i’ve been stuck with 2007 rosters and it’s been a real nostalgia trip
