Position: Advance Associate, Major League Strategy

Job Description:

Summary:
Seeking an individual with a background in data analysis to work with the club’s Baseball Analytics team with a focus on advance scouting. This is an entry-level, seasonal 6-8 month position in which the Associate will analyze baseball data and use their findings to provide insight within the areas of game strategy and preparation. Applicants should be available to start prior to the 2021 season.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Compile advance scouting reports and deliver them to MLB coaching staff and other personnel.
  • Develop and improve automated tools, visualizations, and reports to aid in the distribution of information to players, coaches, and other field staff.
  • Answer ad-hoc research questions pertaining to player performance and game strategy.
  • Conduct research in the field of Baseball Analytics and communicate insights with other members of Baseball Operations.
  • Ability to research, develop, and test predictive models to support baseball decision-making is a plus (i.e., player evaluation, roster construction, player development, in-game strategy).
  • Collect and manage large data sets. This may involve writing scripts for automation as well as manual data entry.
  • Assist coaching staff with administrative tasks including submission of lineups, scheduling, team communications, and more.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, experience or studies in Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Economics, or similar quantitative field is a plus.
  • Experience querying and managing data with SQL.
  • Demonstrated experience using statistical tools and packages in R (Python experience is also a plus).
  • Familiarity with baseball specific datasets (i.e., Kinatrax, Trackman, Statcast) and knowledge of current baseball research.
  • Detail oriented and organized with ability to balance multiple projects.
  • Strong verbal communication and collaborative skills.
  • Prior original baseball research is preferred.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, or holiday hours with willingness to adjust availability to the baseball schedule.

Position: Scouting Associate, Major League Strategy

Location: Flushing, NY

Seeking an individual with a passion for baseball analysis and scouting. This is an entry-level, 6-8 month position in which the Associate will analyze baseball data and video to provide insights within the areas of game strategy and preparation. Applicants should be available to start prior to the 2021 season.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Create and compile advance scouting reports and deliver them to MLB coaching staff and other personnel.
  • Handle ad-hoc information requests pertaining to player performance and game strategy.
  • Collaborate with both Baseball Analytics and video departments to provide insights using information and video to prepare for upcoming opponents.
  • Deliver recommendations to improve Major League game strategy. Areas of interest include analysis of catcher defense, outfield defense, pitcher management of the run game, positioning and managerial strategy, and more to gain a competitive advantage.
  • Assist coaching staff with administrative tasking including submission of lineups, scheduling, team communications, and more.
  • Keep staff up to date on roster moves and transactions across the league.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Experience querying and managing data with SQL/R/Python is a plus.
  • Familiarity with baseball specific data (i.e., motion capture, Trackman, Statcast) and knowledge of current baseball research.
  • Detail oriented and organized with ability to balance multiple projects.
  • Strong verbal communication and collaborative skills.
  • Prior playing or scouting experience in baseball/softball is preferred.
  • Experience operating technology including motion capture, Trackman, Rapsodo, high-speed cameras, and BATS or other video coaching software is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, or holiday hours with willingness to adjust availability to the baseball schedule.

Position: Associate, Player Development

Locations: Port St. Lucie, FL; Binghamton, NY; Dominican Republic

Job Description:

Summary:
The New York Mets are seeking multiple seasonal Player Development Associates. The opportunity will provide individuals with a wide range of experiences in professional baseball. These positions will assist with front office administrative projects and support Minor League Coaching staff at affiliate locations.

Program Details:

  • Associates will be compensated on an hourly basis and are eligible for overtime
  • All positions will end upon the conclusion of the Minor League season
  • Placements for Associates will be made for the following locations: Binghamton (NY), Port St. Lucie (FL), and the Dominican Republic
  • Candidates must be fully available for the duration of the internship
  • Hours for this position may vary week to week; candidates must be available and prepared to work full time hours, including nights and weekends

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist players and coaching staff with accessing all video and data needs
  • Film and chart each game and any early work requests
  • Compile advanced scouting reports to be utilized prior to each series
  • Manage the setup and operation of all baseball technology
  • Travel with the team on all or most road trips
  • Work on projects assigned by player development staff

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred
  • Strong communication, organization skills, mentality and eagerness to learn.
  • Experience with video software tools, such as After Effects, Premiere, Photoshop and Illustrator is strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of baseball technologies such as TrackMan, Rapsodo, Blast Motion, etc.
  • Strong knowledge pertaining to information technology including proficiencies with Excel and other Microsoft Office software
  • Spanish speaking skills is a plus
  • SQL/Analytical experience is a plus
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, or holiday hours
