Title: Development Scout

Summary: Will work within the club’s Domestic Scouting and Technical Operations Departments to assist with the aggregation of player video across amateur, international, and professional scouting. This individual will evaluate players, prepare reports, and establish preferential player listings.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Attend and acquire multi-angle player video from all games, workouts, tournaments and showcases as assigned, which could include but not be limited to the following:
    • Individual high school/college focus players in assigned region
    • High School Showcase events
    • Collegiate Summer Leagues
    • Team USA Events
    • Fall Scout Days for Top-End Programs in assigned area
    • Professional Coverage as assigned
  • Maintain and organize individual player library to ensure video files are properly named/tagged and uploaded to the club’s central server in timely manner.
  • Cut/clip raw player video to improve review efficiency by video scouts.
  • Communicate with Coordinator, Scouting Operations, Domestic Scouting Supervisors, and VP, Domestic Scouting to prioritize travel schedule and player targets throughout the baseball calendar.
  • Assist in identifying individuals and additional area resources in various regions of the country that can augment the club’s video collection process.
  • Complete special video projects as assigned by Coordinator, Scouting Operations and front office.
  • Produce scouting reports on prospects from assigned area.

Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Must be able to display proficiency operating video technology and utilizing video editing software.
  • Prior experience with BATS Video Software is a plus, but not a requirement.
  • Very good language skills required including ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with baseball operations department staff and scouts.
  • Must possess strong attention to detail and exhibit the capability to multi-task effectively.

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous experience with a Major League organization is strongly preferred.
