Position: Senior Baseball Analyst

Department: Baseball Operations
Reports To: Senior Director, Analytics
Status: Exempt

Primary Objective: Responsible for supporting the Baseball Operations department through baseball related data science, including statistical modeling, research, visualizations and other assigned projects.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform statistical modeling and data analysis using a variety of data sources, both public and proprietary
  • Perform ad hoc queries and quantitative research to support all baseball operations personnel
  • Contribute to discussions of player acquisition, professional and/or amateur player evaluation, and on-field strategic planning
  • Will perform other duties as required

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Three (3) years working in a data analytics/predictive modeling setting preferred.
  • Prior experience working with sports data or in a sports-based setting preferred.
  • Proficiency in programming with either R or Python required.
  • Experience with computer vision preferred.

Position: Baseball Projects Intern

Department: Baseball Projects
Reports To: Director, Baseball Projects
Status: Non-exempt

Primary Objective: Responsible for assistance with baseball analytics and broader baseball operations, organizing information and processes across player development, player acquisition, and in-game strategy.

Essential Functions:

  • Design cross-departmental tools, websites, and reports to bring analytical information to life.
  • Provide quantitative support to all aspects of player development, including next-morning analysis, player goal setting, and ad hoc studies.
  • Organize player pools & information to streamline professional & amateur player acquisition processes.
  • Systemize advance scouting processes across major & minor league affiliates.
  • Contribute to player acquisition decisions in both formal & informal contexts.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in statistics, computer science, mathematics or any other STEM field related to data science preferred. Equivalent, relevant work will be considered in lieu of formal education on a case by case basis.

Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA’s):

  • Proficiency handling large datasets in R, SQL, Python, and/or comparable languages.
  • Demonstrated initiative as a team-oriented leader.
  • Working knowledge of baseball analytics, strategy, and trends preferred.
  • Shiny application or other web development experience is preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-motivated, creative, and innovative with a high degree of integrity and attention to detail.
  • Experience building predictive models preferred

Position: Intern, Baseball Operations

Department: Baseball Operations
Reports To: Director, Baseball Operations
Status: Nonexempt

Primary Objective: Responsible for coordination, support, and assistance to the Baseball Operations department in research, administration, and day-to-day scouting operation tasks.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide support in all areas of advance scouting, including, game day duties, preparation of the advance report, and pre-series meetings.
  • Support all areas of the Scouting department, including player evaluation, research, video clipping and preparation for Amateur Draft meetings.
  • Provide additional statistical analysis, economic and financial research as assigned.
  • Will perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred. Equivalent, relevant work or playing experience may be considered in lieu of formal education if approved by management.
  • Basic Spanish proficiency is preferred.
  • Background in player evaluation is preferred.
  • Background in video preparation is preferred.

  • Working knowledge of statistical baseball data and its application as it pertains to scouting information, baseball strategy, and current in game management trends.
