Desiring a Bachelor’s or Master’s in a quantitative field with some scripting/querying experience only to offer $13 an hour is a bold move.

pro sports organizations really love taking advantage of young professionals. Hey we’ve got a line of people willing to do this job, take it or leave it!

Been there. My first job with a MLB team was $8 an hour. I had to work at a grocery store overnight after work just to be able to pay rent (and funnily enough, they paid me more than double). It’s so predatory.

And yet we only get in an uproar over MiLB players making low wages… My son is a second year CE major at a top engineering school applying STEM internships. This is lower end rate, but they’ll get plenty of kids to jump on it. First internships aren’t about money, I won’t bore you with the nasty jobs I had…

Unfortunately, that’s what screens so many people out of these positions and these careers. There are so many people who don’t have privilege to have support structure in place to take internships early in their career which are “not about the money”.
