More Stats Have Been Added to the Player Graphs
Recently, we massively revamped our Player Graphs and are continuing to add more features to them. Today, we added several batted-ball and plate-discipline stats both for pitchers and batters in a new drop-down menu. In addition, it’s now possible to combine certain stats on the same graph.
Here are a few release notes for the update:
- We have added GB%, LD%, FB%, HH%, MH%, SH%, Pull%, Cent%, Oppo%, O-Swing%, Z-Swing%, Swing%, O-Contact%, Z-Contact% and Contact% to all batters and pitchers.
- We’ve added K% and BB% for pitchers.
- By using the drop-down menus, readers are able to mix and match up to five stats on a graph as long as the stats are on the same scale.
- Stats are on the same scale if they are formatted in the same manner. For example, K% and GB% are both percentages. A stat like wOBA, meanwhile, uses the traditional three-decimal format. K% and GB% can be plotted on the same graph while wOBA can’t be paired with either K% or GB%.
- Readers are able to reset and clear the chart by hitting the “Reset” button on the right side of the drop-down menu.
- If a stat is greyed-out in the menu, it can’t be added to the graph. Either the player doesn’t have data for that particular stat or the stat cannot be matched with other stats currently on the graph. You can click “Reset” to start over and clear the current graph.
With this new interface we’ll continue adding more stats and features.
I build things here.

This is fantastic, thank you.
I’m sure you’re already several steps ahead on future improvements to these graphs, which are awesome, but here’s a suggestion anyway: would be great if stats that use different scales (i.e., K% and wOBA) could be plotted on the same chart by using two different y-axes (i.e., K% on the left y-axis and wOBA on the right y-axis). In any case, great work!
Oh definitely, it’s on the road map.
This is awesome. I always felt Fangraphs was short-shrifting the second half of its name, and you’re single-handedly turning that around. Good job.
It’s a low priority compared to all these improvements on the player pages, but have you considered adding Team (and maybe League) graphs at some point? More than once I’ve wanted to look at (for example) the change in a team’s wRC+ or FIP over time, and compare it to other teams, and found myself looking for a “Graphs” tab over to the left where you find it on the Players pages.
Thanks for these additions. Any chance batted ball distance and exit velocity can be added to the player pages?
I’m not sure how soon we can do that if at all. Issues with data permissions, etc. But that aside I’d like to.
MOAR STATS! Always a good thing to hear. My one change would be to the available reference line. If there was a way to add league average to any of the graphs, I think it would help with adding context. Great job here though, I’m having fun with the new updates!
