Jason Collette – Baseball Chat Transcript

Jason Collette: ssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssorry, had pinetar on my ring finger and it got stuck to the keyboard. Let’s chat

11:58
Comment From Pale Hose
What’s the deal with Drew Smyly? Is he still a starter?

Jason Collette: Yes, schedule issues have permitted them to skip over the 5th starter and let him work long in the pen. The rain delay led to the first one, and the second one made sense because of how the schedule was at the time. First start coming here in a few days.

Comment From Sam
How can I find swinging strike % for each of a pitcher’s individual pitches?

Jason Collette: BrooksBaseball.net has the on the pitcher cards. Here is the one for Roberto Hernandez, who has the second-highest SwStr% in the league right now!

12:00
Comment From Jeff
Which pitcher will the Mets trade for a bat?

    Jason Collette: Montero

12:01
Comment From yojiveself
Is Morse/Cingrani a fair offer to Heyward or am I offering too much?

Jason Collette: It’s fair. I have not been a Morse guy as I thought he looked done last year, but the early start is surprising.

12:02
Comment From Tron
Are you sitting Eovaldi @PHI?

Jason Collette: It isn’t a good matchup for him. Philly is one of the better teams in the league (dating back to start of last year) vs RH pitchers featuring FB/SL as Eovaldi does.

12:02
Comment From Mike
The A’s reliever with the most saves on Memorial day is…?

Jason Collette: Cook, but I don’t think anyone has 10 saves in that pen over the next 7 weeks

12:04
Comment From Zach
What do you make of Salazar’s start last night? His velocity was still low on the PITCHf/x data.

Jason Collette: He looked fine to me

12:04
Comment From Tanner Scheppers
Would you start me against the Astros this weekend?

Jason Collette: No. You’re a reliever and need to be back in the bullpen.

12:05
Comment From Guest
Do the Red Sox have an option on Uehara or is he for sure a FA after 2014?

Jason Collette: I don’t see any listing of a team, player, or trigger option for him.

12:06
Comment From Matty-o
Is the changeup something Eovaldi can get a hold on as the season goes on? How much is he throwing it and what are the odds he makes it passable enough to maintain K success?

Jason Collette: He has thrown 6 changeup all season. If it were a passable pitch, he would be using it more. It will take time, but he’ll need it, as Chris Archer is doing now.

12:06
Comment From Grand Admiral Braun
Morrow or Richards for rest of season?

Jason Collette: Richards can stay healthy, Morrow is always when, not if, on the injury front.

12:07
Comment From Maxamuz

I'll drink to that.

Jason Collette: 3:16 says Jose Abreu just kicked some baseball ass this week

12:08
Comment From Steve
Thoughts on Cesar Ramos taking Matt Moores spot in the rotation? Worth a flyer in a 12TM H2H mixed?

Jason Collette: He handles righties and lefties efficiently. Prototypical 5th guy. Here are some notes on him and the fine line he has to walk.

12:09
Comment From Dan
Have a chance to pick up Colby Lewis. Who do I drop, if any, between Carrasco, Hutchison, Robbie Ross, or Nolasco? Make a moce and stand pat?

    Jason Collette: Stand pat

12:09
Comment From Mike
What can we expect from pedro alvarez if his plate discipline and approach so far this season are the new norm?

Jason Collette: A .260 average. Worth keeping an eye on.

12:10
Comment From Ed
How do you handle RA Dickey? Is he a matchups guy at this point? Not sure how you’d even read the matchups considering he shut down the Yanks and got rocked by the Astros.

Jason Collette: Set it and forget it. Otherwise, he will drive you insane.

12:10
Comment From Mike Moustakas
Any chance I hit a line drive before Memorial Day?

Jason Collette: But your spring numbers were so good!!!

12:10
Comment From Geno Harris
Better option at 2B/SS: Dozier or A Cabrera?

Jason Collette: Dozier — underrated player.

12:11
Comment From Grand Admiral Braun
Nova or Morrow? K’s and K/BBs are catergories.

Jason Collette: Nova drives me nuts. The stuff should be getting better results than it does. Pick your poison there.

12:11
Comment From Wood
Start Skaggs vs NYM tonight? Or wait to see more?

Jason Collette: I’ve seen enough to leave him in my lineup until he pitches his way out of it.

12:14
Comment From Mark
My league has 8 pitching categories (W, L, QS, CG, SV,ERA, WHIP, K/9). With only 1 category that REALLY counts for closers would you recommend selling off my closers? I have Reed and Balfour. Thanks

Jason Collette: Closers still contribute to your ERA and WHIP as well, if they do good. See the work Todd Zola has done on it.

12:14
Comment From Jake
What’s McCann’s fall off in OBP from getting shifted more, 20 points? Does a buffed up SLG on that short porch in left end up making up for it?

Jason Collette: OPS probably ends up the same. Eveyrone in the AL East shifts heavily, so it will be a factor for him getting on base, but the homers will be there for him, eventually. Dean Anna cannot out homer him forever.

12:15
Comment From Bob
One spot for Lincecum or Dickey… standard 5×5, who do I roll with?

Jason Collette: Lincecum is 20-30 in his last 50 decisions with a 4.89 ERA and a 1.40 WHIP. That’s not rosterable in a standard 5×5

12:16
Comment From Free Agent
Hey Jason. Thanks for doing the chat today. In terms of strategy, how do you approach free agency in your leagues? I have my first FA period coming this Tuesday, and I’m trying to determine if it would be a good idea to spend 25% of my FA budget on Abraham Almonte, given that he’s available and I have an empty UTIL spot. Thoughts?

Jason Collette: Be aggressive, b-e aggressive early and often. The quicker you can get guys on your roster, the more they can do for you.

12:16
Comment From Grand Admiral Braun
Does Rizzo have a .300/.400/.500 season in him at any point?

Jason Collette: Eno and I discussed him on yesterday’s podcast. It’s possible.

12:17
Comment From Mike
Seriously??? A 1.000 babip from Salazar yesterday??? Unreal that the only putout from the defense comes from a basehit trying to be stretched into a double.

Jason Collette: That and Alex Cobb’s start against the Padres last season are two of the craziest things I’ve seen.

12:17
Comment From Jake
Are Anna and Solarte gonna play at/above LA over the season?

Jason Collette: The Yankees are so cheap they couldn’t even afford name licensing rights on their own players. In all seriousness, doubtful.

12:18
Comment From Michael
Is Grokyo dropable?

Jason Collette: Subtract the round you drafted him in from 26 to figure out when he’s draftable. If you took him in the 8th round, 26-8 = ~18 weeks he deserves to be on your roster.

12:19
Comment From Steve
I keep seeing a lot of sleeper articles on mesoraco, but then I look at his stats from the last couple yrs and am not impressed. Can you please make me understand why so many analysts believe he is going to breakout

Jason Collette: Catchers take longer to develop. They have the extra responsibilities on working with the pitchers and the game plan and they lose early playing time due to defensive struggles or inconsistencies at the plate that veteran catchers are allowed to play through. See Hank Conger

12:20
Comment From Michael
Will Carlos Martinez crack the rotation this year?

Jason Collette: The splits he has against righties and lefties are a bit too big for that to happen. Let him keep working on his offspeed stuff in the bullpen so he’s ready once a rotation opportunity opens up.

12:20
Comment From Homer Bailey
How many more weeks will I go where 100% of the flyballs I give up leave the park?

Jason Collette: Stop pitching against St. Louis. This is nuts – my Cy Young prediction looks terrible.

12:21
Comment From Guest
AL pitcher to target in a trade? Someone underperfoming so far that you believe in?

Jason Collette: Buy super low on Nova

12:21
Comment From Mike
Ian Kennedy or Sabathia rest of the season?

Jason Collette: I like Kennedy moving forward

12:22
Comment From Brian Dozier
Do you think I have a real shot at 20/20 this year?

Jason Collette: You only need to go 17/17 the rest of the way! Yes, it is possible, but 75% unlikely

12:24
Comment From Michael
With Buchholz velocity on the sharp decline should I be concerned

Jason Collette: Not in sharp decline, but it is down. I’m currently working on an article looking at guys whose pitch discipline skills are in decline, as Moore’s were even before the injury.

12:24
Comment From Craig
2 catcher, NL only, pick up Federowicz for AJ Ellis or take the zero’s for a month, nothing else out there

Jason Collette: Make the pickup. Taking zeroes is the cheap way out.

12:25
Comment From Guest
Is service time still a consideration in calling Gausman up ,or did he pass that last year ?

Jason Collette: It’s still an issue for him and the extra time may even delay a full-time promotion this season. They want him ready to start rather than working in the pen and then needing to be stretched out once they need a spot filled.

12:25
Comment From Flip
Any optimism on Shuck if you need some short term steals and Ave?

Jason Collette: None. The position will be a Cowgill/Shuck platoon but when you have 2 left fielders, you have none.

12:27
Comment From wes
How worried are you about Prince? Do you think he’s pressing?

Jason Collette: Not worried – still way too early for anything

12:27
Comment From Guest
When will Conger get the lion share of starts behind the dish?

    Jason Collette: This year

12:27
Comment From Guest
So how many games in a row are the Nationals going to hit a Grand Slam in?

Jason Collette: As long as managers intentionally walk the bases loaded with Carlos MarmLOL on the mound.

12:28
Comment From Grand Admiral Braun
Is there a worse everyday lineup that the one Ron Gardenhire pencils in everyday? That team is brutal.

Jason Collette: Tough times in the Twin Cities. That’s not a pretty lineup card to look at.

12:28
Comment From Mat Latos
How worried should I be about my elbow?

Jason Collette: Your wife said it isn’t anything serious, and she knows you best. I have 55/80 concern.

12:29
Comment From The dude
Travis d’arneau….can he hit?

Jason Collette: See my comment earlier about the struggles of young catchers. The bat takes time.

12:30
Comment From Geno Harris
do you think Andrelton Simmons is in for a breakout this year? Yes he hit 17 homers last year, but avg and OBP were bad. Think he hits closer to .280/330?

Jason Collette: I don’t forsee a 50 point jump in his OBP unless the luck dragons strike and make a high amount of batted balls fall safely into play.

12:31
Comment From Jed
Better longterm SS prospect – Bogaerts or Carlos Correa?

Jason Collette: Correa. 19 years old, carries himself like a 29 year old, and looks 24. Special player. No slight on Bogaerts, but baseball has a bright future with guys like Correa, Bogaerts, and Lindor up the middle.

12:31
Comment From John Axford
I will be replaced by Cody Allen in _____

    Jason Collette: case of injury

12:32
Comment From Dirck
Who signs Drew and when ?

Jason Collette: The needs for him have already been there, and it hasn’t happened. At this point, he’s not going to sign until after the draft unless there is another major injury to a contender.

12:33
Comment From Josh B
Darn, accidentally posted this to comments LOL!, Anyway, what is it about Garrrett Richards great performance earlier this week that still equates to a high SIERA? Thanks.

Jason Collette: Someone does that every week. So far, what really stands out is he’s shutting down lefties. They’ve been a problem for him in the past, but he has permitted just 2 singles in 34 plate appearances against lefties

12:34
Comment From Freddie
Any concerns with Brad Miller so far this year? Eno said he is reaching too much, but is still confident in him. But with Franklin hitting in the minors, he could be on a short leash.

Jason Collette: The strikeout rate for Miller has been surprisingly high. Franklin hitting in the PCL (shocker) but Miller is the much better defender.

12:34
Comment From Guest
Is a Matt Cain trending down or still too early?

Jason Collette: Too early. I’ve heard mixed reviews from people on what he’s looked like, and this is what he did to start last year as well.

12:35
Comment From Daniel
Are the Padres’ chances for a wildcard pretty much done at this point?

Jason Collette: I never liked their chances to begin with. Milwaukee and Atlanta were my wildcard picks.

12:35
Comment From Ronnie D
Reyes is always injured, getting sick of it. Roster is not large enough to carry him. Brad miller was recently dropped. Pick up Miller, start over Reyes ( till I can trade).

    Jason Collette: Pounce

12:36
Comment From CistulliLoveChild
Jose Reyes: any realistic chance for him to play over 100 games this year?

Jason Collette: Yes, this current situation was poorly handled IMO

12:36
Comment From James
Chances Morrow gets >= 150 IP this year?

Jason Collette: Same chances I pitch 15 innings in the bigs this season

12:36
Comment From Concerned Wife
Better season after return from DL – Latos, Iwakuma or Fister?

    Jason Collette: Iwakuma

12:38
Comment From Nerd Buzzard
Matt Cain doesn’t look like Matt Cain. Digging in, the zone% on his CH has fallen off a cliff. Guys aren’t swinging at it nearly as much because of that. Is he now broken?

Jason Collette: The swing rate on his change this season, so far, is higher than it was last season. The swing & miss rate on the pitch last year was the highest it has been since the start of the 2009 season.

12:39
Comment From Reddickulous
Hey Jason, I don’t remember you chatting last year. I’ve chatted with the guy who’s into exoplanetary geology, the guy into first-person shooters, the grumpy guy who hates fantasy, and the beer guy. What’s your non-baseball topic of choice? Or are you a joyless word processor baseball-bot?! COME CLEAN!!!

Jason Collette: I didn’t join the staff until late November 2013 and didn’t start chatting until 2 months ago. My 8 year old knows more geology than I do, I have one shooting game, fantasy pays my bills, but I am a beer guy. Non-baseball topic of choice would be travel.

12:40
Comment From Ronnie D
If Moore doesn’t need TJ, how long is he out for?

Jason Collette: See Jaime Garcia’s past. I’m guessing we get a 5pm announcement today that Moore is having surgery.

12:41
Comment From Edwin Encarnacion
What the heck is wrong with me?

Jason Collette: The swing and miss in your game right now is troubling. You are 20% of the way to your 2013 strikeout total in 580 fewer at bats.

12:41
Comment From DJ_Harvey
FG has Brewers projected to win 81 games. You taking the over on that?

Jason Collette: Yes, I’ve been beating the drum for awhile on Milwaukee. I’m not toeing the party line here – buy your postseason tickets in Milwaukee.

12:42
Comment From Zach
Travel! Go on. Ever been to Prague?

Jason Collette: My only trips out of the US have been to Quebec, Ontario, Guatemala, and Chile.

12:42
Comment From DJ_Harvey
Gyorko or Rendon? Is the margin large?

12:42
Jason Collette: sorry for crazy reply – Rendon. Big fan of his upside this season.

12:44
Comment From Ryan
What is Carlos Martinez doing in middle relief? He’s this year’s Wacha! Just filthy.

Jason Collette: Martinez has a career .247/.326/.312 slash line with a 26% K rate vs RH in 88 PA. That slash line is .296/.361/.352 with a 9.8% K rate vs LH in 61 PA. That’s why he is in the pen.

5×5 ROS – Bourn or Revere

Jason Collette: you should have a little homie named Ben Revere.

12:45

thoughts on wheeler moving forward. his xfip is sitting at 2.93 and his BB/9 is below 2!

Jason Collette: If you can find a frustrated owner right now, pounce

12:46
Comment From Guest
The rotation situation of everyone in the AL West is awful right now. How big is the Mariners’advantage gonna be when they get their guys back first?

Jason Collette: It all depends on how the bats hold up health wise. They can’t afford to lose Hart

12:46
Comment From Jed
Do you think Hamels will be his normal ace-level self when he returns?

Jason Collette: Not immediately….he is going to need a few starts to get his 2014 game legs underneath him.

12:46
Comment From KilleBrews
Would you hold Byron Buxton in keeper lg w/o minor lg spots? Is he worth burning a spot?

Jason Collette: Yes, but you can’t carry multiple guys like him.

12:46
Comment From Reddickulous
Who would you rather have as a backup 1B/Utility player for the rest of the year: Butler or Rizzo?

    Jason Collette: Rizzo

12:48
Comment From Slippery Pope
Did you notice how Papi said, “no big deal, everyone uses pine tar”? Those weren’t his exact words, but…what?

Jason Collette: It is true. It happens all over the league. The unwritten agreement is don’t get caught blatantly doing it on the field. Last year when the Nats busted Joel Peralta, they used inside information and that was out of the code. It’s why the Sox didn’t bring it up last night because it opens up Pandora’s Box. Jim McKean said on MLB radio earlier today that when he umped, the umps only did something when the manager came to them to request a check. It’s funny how the unwritten code goes out the window in the post season (Howell thumbtack, Rogers pinetar, etc).

12:49
Comment From Zane
Is Kendrys worth rostering in a 14 team mixed with no DL slot? Only 6 total bench spots

Jason Collette: I’m doing it in a 12 team league, so yes

12:49
Comment From Dirck
I was on Gyorko early but it appeared that all of his numbers in the minors were very park/league dependent . Traded him off in all dynasty leagues .Still doubt his numbers last year .

Jason Collette: You don’t hit that many HRs in a season with Petco as your home park by accident. He may not get to 30, but 20 is very reasonable for him at this stage.

12:50
Comment From Ted
Aoki, Melky or Pagan?

Jason Collette: Very close call – all 3 are off to great starts. Love the way Melky looks at the plate right now, Aoki is working counts, and Pagan is very underrated at the top of the lineup. I think I’ll go Pagan here.

12:50
Comment From Jay
Does Marcus Stroman join the Blue Jays in June?

Jason Collette: I’m not even sure it will take that long.

12:50
Comment From Bill
Is Paxton worth holding in a 10-team mixed league or am I better off using his roster slot to stream?

    Jason Collette: The latter situation

12:51
Comment From Guest
The change/splitters that Salazar throws in the zone are noticeably less sharp. Is this a problem of his or a limitation of the pitch?

Jason Collette: April weather could be a factor with that. That was an 70+ pitch last year – it just doesn’t disappear.

12:51
Comment From Marky Mark
Trying to replace Moore via waiver options. Between Leake, Hutchison, Collmenter and Carrasco, which two would you pick up?

    Jason Collette: Carrasco, Leake

12:52
Comment From Anthony Rendon
Is there any chance I’ll be a better lifetime hitter than my teammate Bryce Harper? He’s got more power, but I make better contact…

Jason Collette: I like you, a lot, but no.

12:52
Comment From Thomas
What do you think of the 1/2 season we will see out of Profar this year?

Jason Collette: Nothing much of value. Shoulder injuries are tough on batters, and their early production after returning historically has been poor.

12:53
Comment From Billy Bob
Chris Colabello. add or not? im crazy for thinking bout this, right?

Jason Collette: If you have a time machine and can go back to March 31st, yes. Otherwise, no

12:53
Comment From Zach
French Canadians are the worst, no?

Jason Collette: I was up there in 1999 when the US Dollar was worth quite a bit. They gladly took my money, especially at the damn Montreal casino.

12:53
Comment From Ronnie D
Front line starter that I can buy low on?

    Jason Collette: Homer Bailey

12:54
Comment From Andres
Follow up to Encarnacion: make sense to try and “sell” based on his name and last two years of 30+ HR?

Jason Collette: no. Buy buy buy

12:54
Comment From Joe Charboneau
i’ve heard the phrase ‘streaming’ several times – what does it mean?

Jason Collette: Using a roster spot to cycle in pitchers based on matchups or starts.

12:55
Comment From Daniel
Is Yasmani Grandal an all-star this year? He always seems to have an unreal OBP.

Jason Collette: Hopefully the knee can hold up for him. He has looked good so far.

12:55
Comment From Nick
If you had to bet, who leads the Nationals in RBIs this year? Werth, Desmond, Harper or someone else?

Jason Collette: Werth. Believe in the power of amazing hair

12:56
Comment From Ted
Does Kole Calhoun belong in the Aoki/Melky/Pagan group?

Jason Collette: after all 3, yes.

12:57
Comment From Zach
Chris Davis has only done this once, and really, most of it happened in the first half of the season. I know it’s too early to draw conclusions, but if I look at this post-ASB numbers from last year, plus this year’s first ten games…should I be worried?

Jason Collette: and those numbers are .252/.340/.500 with 16 homers and 51 RBI in 318 PA. Dirty double math and you get 32/100 and a slash line better than league average for 1B.

12:59
Comment From Guest
Re: Salazar. His split is great, it’s just the ones in the zone look less sharp than the ones he buries in the dirt. Are splitters known to be difficult to throw for strikes?

Jason Collette: Ideally, they’re best when not thrown for strikes. They should start out in the zone but finish out of the zone. It needs to look like a strike for as long as possible while avoiding finishing in the strike zone.

12:59
Comment From Mike
Other than having an great alliteration of a name, is Corey Kluber worth owning in 12 team roto right now? What do you see from him ROS?

Jason Collette: Absolutely he is. Strong strikeout potential & ratios.

carlos gomez for chris archer/sonny gray. keeper league. pick a side?

Jason Collette: Gomez, and I love both pitchers. Gomez is a fantasy beast

1:02
Comment From BILL
sample is to samll but has anyone impressed you so far in the AL, looking for sleepers like Otero (Oak), Mastro (min) maybe Bass (Hou) or Keuchel (Hou)

Jason Collette: I picked up Keuchel myself in my home AL league where I need to put Phil Hughes on the bench. I don’t see Bass as the sleeper in Houston as much as I like Matt Albers returning from paternity leave.

Start CC tonight against Bos?

    Jason Collette: I wouldn’t.

1:04
Comment From Stuck in a Slump
what are your thoughts on almonte?

Jason Collette: Hopefully the bat can keep him in the lineup because the defense hasn’t been great. I have 4 shares in him.

1:04
Comment From KilleBrews
Almonte? Worth holding in 12 team 5×5 lg? How good is this guy? Considering dropping for MR like Herrara or Benoit…

Jason Collette: No sense in holding Herrera. At least Benoit has a clear path to saves with Street’s health history and him being in a walk year.

1:06
Comment From Josh C
Why is there a big difference between your pitch fx velocity and brooks baseball’s?

Jason Collette: Brooks uses the velocity from 55 ft out (assuming a 5.5 ft release point away from the pitching mound. I prefer using both data sources.

1:07
Comment From Sam
If you needed pitching, would you trade Nelson Cruz for Liriano?

    Jason Collette: Without haste

1:07
Comment From Zach
How do you determine the necessity of getting certain kinds of pieces back in a trade? For example, I’m looking at trading Chris Davis, as I really need some pitching. I’ve currently got Brandon Belt at Util, and am confident he can slide in and be above average at first, and my utility options to replace him are AJax, Brad Miller, and Headley, so some decent options. Do I absolutely need to get a not-past-his prime hitter back in trading Davis, or can I accept a return of just pitching, if it’s good enough pitching? (Rest of my offense is Santana, Kipnis, Arenado, Segura, Stanton, Bruce, Heyward). Thanks!

Jason Collette: Davis was likely a first round draft pick for you, or at worst, a high second. That’s the kind of pitcher you need to get back

1:07
Comment From Prich
The Ms and Mets finally going to get together on the Franklin-Montero swap that makes sense for both sides?

Jason Collette: It made sense a month ago and it did not happen.

1:08
Comment From Mr. Met
Valverde for S. Miller…who wins?

Jason Collette: The S. Miller side, even if it were Sean Miller the basketball coach

1:08
Comment From RotoLando
Brad Peacock looked good 2nd half last year. Kind of blew up in his latest relief appearance though. What do you think going forward? He can basically be had for free.

Jason Collette: Get him for free. Talent is there but his spring was a little weird in how he was used. Very puzzled by him right now.

1:09
Comment From Evan V
Should I cut my losses and drop Jim Henderson? Joakim Soria is newly available in this league.

Jason Collette: If you can grab Soria, sure.

1:10
Comment From Reddickulous
I’m going to ask you a deeply personal question. Who is your favorite baseball player (not necessarily fantasy) who is not very good? Ok, ok, I’ll do mine first: Daric Barton.

Jason Collette: Sam Fuld. Lots of excellent moment with the Rays

1:10
Comment From Brian
How about Nova on Sunday against BOS?

Jason Collette: Nova does not look good right now. I don’t want him in my lineup until he gets it together.

1:12
Comment From SMC
“Without haste” means unhurreidly or casually

Jason Collette: Irregardless (see what I did there), do it WITH haste

1:12
Comment From Pop
Any good news on Hellickson? He is a DL stash in deep AL league.

Jason Collette: There has been no bad news, so that is good news. I still do not expect him back until after Memorial Day.

1:13
Comment From Slippery Pope
Who are your top ML stashes for this year only? Springer, Bradley and Baez already off the board.

    Jason Collette: Polanco, Gray, Syndergaard

Should I even bother keeping Matt Moore in a roto league with no DL?

    Jason Collette: Nope

Was just offered Price, Bruce, and Matt Carpenter for Kipnis, Lawrie, and Liriano. Crawl, walk, or run to accept?

Jason Collette: Do this WITH excessive haste

Liriano for Rosario? Desperate for SP

Jason Collette: Apparently, you are. Not a move I would make

jay bruce seems like a good buy low right now. avg below .200 and a babip even lower

Jason Collette: If you can find an owner willing to deal a top 5 round pick the second week of the season, go for it.

Comment From Wood
Would Sonny Gray be a fair offer for Jose Abreu?

Jason Collette: Sonny Gray, Erin Gray (in the early 80’s), Jerry Gray, and a fourth player, yea. Trading for Abreu in the ;midst of a four-homer week is the wrong time to do so

C J Edwards in a dynasty league do i pick him up and drop Jamieson Taillon

Jason Collette: Taillion is useless for another 18 months. Please do

Do you foresee a break with Quintana this year? Quintana or Kluber?

Jason Collette: Like both guys equally, but Quintana is more easily attainable.

Which “Gray” were you referring to in terms of minor leaguers that could have an impact this year?

    Jason Collette: Jonathan

Is Eric Young Jr or Hamilton going to lead NL in stolen bases this year?

    Jason Collette: Hamilton.

Worried about Tyson Ross yet?

Jason Collette: Unless a pitcher is hurt, I don’t worry about any of them in April. People dumped Porcello and Estrada last year after horrible Aprils and missed out on a lot of good production.

Brad Miller or Rendon for 2B in a league with OBP?

    Jason Collette: Rendon

What are your thoughts on Matt Albers? I like his increased velocity and higher slider usage, which increased his K/9. Despite the lack of better arms, is AlAl the best option behind Nathan?

Jason Collette: I like. I watched some video of him the other day, but all we have so far are those stupid idiotic off-center camera views, so it’s tough to see if he’s doing anything different compared to last season in terms of his mechanics. As someone who is insanely pro-DH, I will gladly give up the DH in baseball if all 30 parks were required to give us the dead center camera view.

Alburqurque or Joba as a Nathan handcuff?

Jason Collette: Eno and I talked about this on our podcast yesterday. There is no definitive “yes” solution to the situation if Nathan needs a break. All have flaws.

Should I drop C.Kluber and pick T.Wood?

    Jason Collette: Please do not.

T. Walker coming back soon. Drop Roark, Odorizzi, or Straily. I also own Iwakuma.

Jason Collette: Roark can go out of that trio

What tier of pitcher should i be asking for when dealing wilin rosario

Jason Collette: A very good one. Rosario is a top 2-3 catcher.

How much of a game changer is Hamilton’s speed?

Jason Collette: a HUGE one. What he did in St. Louis the other day was breathtaking. Advances to the next base twice on balls that weren’t 200 feet from the plate. He puts the pressure on the defense to make the perfect throw and tag and I absolutely love the aggressiveness.

How many bases do you predict Eric Young Jr. stealing?

    Jason Collette: 42

What are your feelings on Syndergaard? When does he get called up? and Bradley?

Jason Collette: I gave up trying to predict callups a long time ago. Both have very bright futures and will hit the ground running

Comment From Elliott
In a deep 20 team points league, would you start either Hart or Kubel in the UTL spot?

    Jason Collette: Hart, always Hart

What will Abreu’s final line look like at the end of the year? 35/100?

Jason Collette: That is not an unreasonable prediction for his talent. Just wait until the weather warms up in Chicago for him.

Comment From diamond joe quimby
who has impressed you more: Tanaka or Abreu?

Jason Collette: Jose Abreu — on the 2nd homer he hit the other night in Colorado. The first one was hit so high that it brought rain. The second one was such a frozen rope to the opposite field you could hang your laundry on it.

Comment From Jon
Are you holding Avisail Garcia in a keeper or cutting losses right now for someone like Marcus Stroman?

Jason Collette: Cut your losses. Labrum injuries suck for position players. It’s his front shoulder which is critical for batters getting full extension in their swing.

What’s with the high projections on Carlos Santana? I’m read to drop him!

Jason Collette: He should be on your do not drop list. Notorious slow starter

Does my Dad beat out Nava?

Jason Collette: Why can’t he beat out Sizemore?

Do you think Gallardo is learning to pitch better with less stuff or is the lower velo still going to make 2014 more like 2013?

Jason Collette: He’s going to have to learn how to pitch a different way. He’s had a heavy workload and his mechanics have never been clean

Comment From TonyDanza
Any thoughts on Nathan’s “dead arm” reports? Is there more going on there, or typical beginning of the year stuff? His age would be a factor, I’d guess?

Jason Collette: His velo was down a tad last year as well. Dead arm is a real thing, but guys can get through it.

Which deal looks worse in hind sight: The Miami Blockbuster or the RA dickey trade?

Jason Collette: One brought along a high budget that now hamstrings them and the other cost them a potential ace and an everyday catcher. Both equally painful

Comment From Gila Monster
Are You worried about the Ray’s pitching if Price or Cobb regress at all?

Jason Collette: Losing Moore reduces their margin for error as a team. Last year, 4 of the 5 starters hit the disabled list and currently 3 are out if you include Colome’s suspension.

1:32
Jason Collette: That’s it for me – thanks for stopping by!

What is it that makes Garrett Richards fantastic performance earlier this week still equate to a high SIERA?
