Jason Collette – Baseball Chat Transcript

11:32
Jason Collette: Good morning. I don’t know when Polanco, Pederson, Taveras, Buxton, et al are going to be recalled so please don’t ask. If it were up to me, I’d have them all in the majors right now.

11:36
Comment From Steve Z
Is Juan Francisco for real?

Jason Collette: His power is legit, but his playing time is crowded with Lind back and Lawrie not exactly sounding happy about playing second base. Play him in matchups & anything is possible but I don’t think Milwaukee was wrong for letting him go as they did despite the short term success thus far.

Got offered Abreu for my Fielder in 10-team redraft with OPS. Should I do it?

Jason Collette: Yes, Fielder may hit for a better average, but Abreu is going to finish with 8-10 more homers

11:37
Comment From John
When is my favorite prospect being called up

    Jason Collette: June 31st

11:37
Comment From Smalls
Do I keep holding onto Sandoval?

Jason Collette: Take the round you drafted him and subtract that from 26 weeks. That’s how long you have to hold onto any player.

11:38
Comment From Manchester Steve
Predictions on Abreu and Morneau’s stat lines to finish the year(R/HR/RBI/AVG). Thanks!

    Jason Collette: Abreu: 75/44/110/.268 ; Morneau: 66/22/82/.285

11:39
Comment From wes
Do you think it’s a given that Abreu has more HR and RBI than Fielder ROS? thanks!

Jason Collette: Absolutely on the HR, iffy on the RBI. Fielder has a better crew in front of him to drive in.

11:39
Comment From Bill
Rest of season: Devin Mesoraco or Wilson Ramos

Jason Collette: Mesoraco – Ramos is returning from a wrist issue and we’ve seen how that has affected the power abilities of guys like Werth and Morse (holy **it is he making me look bad right now) recently

11:40
Comment From Graham
Want to pick up Headley off waivers. Which two shortstops do I drop: Andrus, Villar, A.Cabrera?

Jason Collette: Cabrera and Villar. I refuse to believe Andrus will stink much longer. Villar is hot, but he’s a big risk.

11:41
Comment From James
Fielder, Arenado and Cespedes or Votto, A Jones and Gyorko in H2H weekly points league

    Jason Collette: Side b

11:41
Comment From disco derk
If GMs had access to the first month performance of Abreu and Tanaka, how would their contracts differ

Jason Collette: I don’t think Tanaka’s deal would alter much but Abreu’s might go up a tad

11:42
Comment From Graham
I traded Puig for Strasburg. Smart or will I regret it?

Jason Collette: Not at all. Strasburg’s .381 BABIP will be coming down and his other skills are excellent

11:43
Comment From Blake Bortles
Which slumping star in April should I look to get rid of? Go Jaguars!

    Jason Collette: ^^^^^^^^^^
This is how you suck up to the host! No slumping star should be dumped after April. Look at Encarnacion over the past two weeks. I saw someone who traded him straight up for Zack McAllister less than a week ago. WOOF

11:43
Comment From Joe
Does Aceves make it into the yankees rotation at some point?

Jason Collette: Has more value in the swing role

11:44
Comment From Graham
Smart to use a platoon at 1B with Reynolds/Texeira vs lefties and Juan Francisco vs righties?

Jason Collette: I’d rather use Teix vs RH so he can use the porch. He looks better at the plate these days.

11:44
Comment From Luke
What have you seen from Mike Olt? Does he have a chance to be an everyday player, even if it’s not in CHC?

Jason Collette: He’s come quite the ways back from the challenges in the Rangers system. I’m still a believer in him as an everyday player, but that depth chart for him is a bit crowded in Chicago.

11:45
Comment From KJ
over/under on Rasmus hitting 30 HRS? Does he take another step this season?

Jason Collette: It’s his walk year; don’t all players break out in their walk year? (No,they don’t). Sure, Rasmus has 30-hr potential in that park and in that division if he can stay healthy.

11:46
Comment From david
I don’t really care when Oscar Tevares gets called up..but when he does can you compare his per game output with a current major leaguer?

Jason Collette: A second division outfielder. Look at what is going on with Springer right now when everyone insisted Astros were being cheap in keeping him down. Eventually, something like what Desmond Jennings is doing right now with a better average

11:47
Comment From Graham
Better overall third fantasy outfielder: Ozuna, Aoki, or Yelich?

Jason Collette: Yelich as long as he keeps getting on base like this and being driven in

11:47
Comment From Steve
Would you trade Chris Tillman to get Danny Salazar?

Jason Collette: No, Tillman has lesser risk associated with him.

11:48
Comment From Freddie es loco
Is Alex Wood destined for the pen? When is my second favorite prospect getting the call?

Jason Collette: Has to get better vs LH. Don’t see a lot of LH starters that have reverse splits like this.

11:48
Comment From Guest
Who will put up the best start today? Jose Fernandez or Masahiro Tanaka?

Jason Collette: The Padres offense is all kinds of terrible. Fernandez could strike out 14+ tonight and scatter a handful of hits.

11:50
Comment From Cito Gastons Moustache
How impressed are you by Jose Bautista’s 2014 season? Is he the 2nd best hitter in baseball?

Jason Collette: Extremely impressed. He owns the strike zone and is punishing mistakes pitchers make. As Encarnacion is heating up, pitchers can’t just work around Bautista. They have to hope he hits it at someone right now. That lineup is really scary to face right now with so many cylinders firing at once

11:51
Comment From max fisher players
some people want more offense, the league gonna do anything and other than smaller strike zone /closer fences what can be done

Jason Collette: Put a DH in the National League would be the easiest thing. Otherwise, baseball is fine the way it is. Teams could increase offense by bunting against the shift more often and better lineup construction. Looking at you, Cincy & Seattle.

11:51
Comment From Brad
Have both Stroman and Odor..and I actually need to cut one..who?

    Jason Collette: Odor

11:53
Comment From tommy
It sure feels like this is gonna be the narrative with Salazar all year. Do you seem him being able to consistently go 6+ IP at any point this year? In a QS league so I’m curious

Jason Collette: He has 7 starts this year, a great one vs the Giants, a solid one vs the Twins, an OK one vs the Twins, & 4 stinkers. Stuff is too good to be this inconsistent, but he needs to figure out how to best use it.

11:54
Comment From max fisher players
what projection system do you feel works the best

Jason Collette: A birds-eye view of all systems. Look at ZiPS, look at Steamer, look at any of them out there and use them to help you form your own opinion.

11:55
Comment From Big Joe Mufferaw
I need RBIs, what kind of return do you think I can get for Dee Gordon + David Price?

Jason Collette: You should be able to get a good return on that with Gordon’s speed and Price’s better days ahead. Price is suffering from some HR/FB issues right now because he’s always in the zone, so when he misses, it comes right over the plate as it did vs Pearce last night. Other skills look very good.

11:57
Comment From Marge
what’s up with Homer Bailey?

Jason Collette: He’s being the Homer Bailey of old and pissing me off! The 18.4% HR/FB rate is well above his career rate so hopefully that comes down. That plus the extra walks are getting to him.

11:57
Comment From Rated Rookie
Not a call-up question but a comparison of relative ceilings/scouting grades: has Bauer done enough to regain the luster that made him a top draft pick and prospect? How does his ceiling compare to Bradley’s?

Jason Collette: IMO, Bradley has the higher ceiling but Bauer is better now because he is usable now. Reports look very good on how he’s working in Triple-A right now.

11:58
Comment From Brad
concerned about minor?

Jason Collette: Not really. Strikeout rate and walk rate are holding up, but he’s shaking off rust. Contact rate is way up & that’s a command issue.

11:58
Comment From Jason
12 team H2H dynasty league with 40 man rosters (32 MLB and 8 MiLB)-keep for life.

Which side would you prefer: My J.Upton/R.Soriano or his Pence/D.Gordon

Is this selling low on JUp? Is Pence/D.Gordon for JUp good?

    Jason Collette: His side

11:58
Comment From Just Haranging Around
Khris Davis is walking less than 1% of the time and has a swinging strike rate of 16%, Am I crazy to cut bait on him for an injured Calhoun or Josh Reddick. My OF is abysmal

Jason Collette: I’d rather have Reddick here

11:59
Comment From Big Joe Mufferaw
Do you prefer answering Fantasy, prospect or MLB questions?

    Jason Collette: MLB, fantasy….prospects.

12:00
Comment From Joel
Longoria has 2 in 33 ABs that end in a pitch on the inner 3rd of the plate. Last year at this time he was 12 of 35 on those same pitches. Cause for concern regarding his lack of power?

Jason Collette: More concerned about his GIDP tendencies right now as he’s trying to crush too much. He’s good when he adjusts and goes to CF & RCF. Don’t like what I’m seeing at the plate right now from him

12:00
Comment From Guest
Hector Santiago? Is his poor command catching up with him?

Jason Collette: It certainly is not helping

12:01
Comment From Guest
Do you think Jose Fernandez has a shot at the NL Cy Young?

Jason Collette: If he keeps striking out 35% of the dudes he faces, yes

12:02

Thoughts on Kris Davis?

Jason Collette: Platoon guy right now. Is doing nothing vs RH

12:02
Comment From Flawless
What does Cano’s final stat line look like at year’s end?

    Jason Collette: .290/22/85/10

12:03
Comment From toot toot
I spotted Smyly instead of Keuchel yesterday. Did I catch a bad break, or am I a fool for not believing in Keuchel?

Jason Collette: Keuchel took his K% from slightly below average to slightly above average. I can’t fault you for doing that, as I would have done the same thing and I have Keuchel in 2 leagues.

12:03
Comment From Bill
Todd Frazier or Brett Lawrie ROS

    Jason Collette: Frazier

12:04
Comment From Big Joe Mufferaw
Tulo is hitting .608 .677 1.098 1.775 at home this season… Just thought this NEEDED to be pointed out

Jason Collette: His pre-bat routine: Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, Start.

12:05
Comment From Awash in pitching
If you had to let one of the following go, which one would it be, and what caliber OF would you expect in return? (Ian Kennedy, Eovaldi, Kazmir, Chavez, Iwakuma)

Jason Collette: I move Chavez and you should get a low 2nd tier or high 3rd tier OF in return for him right now.

12:05
Comment From Rated Rookie
Is Juan Francisco doing anything so great as to make people forget how many teams have released him the past couple of years? Or is this recency bias colliding with fantasy baseball desperation?

Jason Collette: The latter; it will happen when guys flash the power like this. He’s a perfect fit for that park though but the flaws will surface again.

12:06
Comment From Caesar Tovar
Could you suggest a fair SP target for my Matt Holliday? Carlos Beltran?

    Jason Collette: Iwakuma

12:06
Comment From Justin
is Dee Gordon for real?

Jason Collette: Yes, this is who he was projected to be. It’s just taken him a bit to get there.

12:07
Comment From Andrew
Thoughts on Rizzos hot start? He’s obviously not going to hit .300, but .275 with 30 HR? Thanks for all your hard work Jason! One of the best in the biz.

Jason Collette: He’s cut down on his strikeouts, walking a bunch, cut back on his chasing — this is a guy in his third full-ish season starting to flourish.

12:07
Comment From Ugh
Traded Corey hart for Adam Dunn. Hart had dual of 1b elig. Was this stupid?

Jason Collette: Not stupid; I tried trading Dunn for Encarnacion last week 🙂

12:08
Comment From Big Joe Mufferaw
Odds that Tulo finishes the season with a slash line of 350/450/650 or better? ____%

    Jason Collette: 49

12:08
Comment From Furbush
Do you like Ramos over Conger?

Jason Collette: Yea, because he’ll play more. I’m still a Conger believer long-term

12:08
Comment From Furbush
Should i start Volquez and Lynn tmrw against each other?

    Jason Collette: Not Volquez

12:08
Comment From Max
Will Wilmer Flores be fantasy relevant ROS? What kind of numbers do you expect?

Jason Collette: I don’t think he’ll be, no.

12:09
Comment From Jack
I have to drop a pitcher. Please pick one: Tillman, Bauer, Chavez, Lackey, Porcello. (BTW, you guys have been rocking the podcast, thanks for the great work!)

Jason Collette: Bauer, because he’s not pitching.

12:09
Comment From Eno
Yeah…

Jason Collette: tune in today when I ask him about Roughned Odor. Cannot wait to hear him pronounce it

12:10
Comment From Big Joe Mufferaw
Do you think Pro baseball will make its way back to Ottawa?

Jason Collette: If baseball is going to any new markets, it will be Portland and Charlotte. I don’t think either happen, but I don’t see the league expanding north of the border again.

12:10
Comment From angelo
12 team keeper, my votto and yordano for harper and cliff lee. Yea or nay?

    Jason Collette: Yay

12:10
Comment From thanks!
Which of these NL ERA-FIP under-performers do you like best ROS? Garza (best ROS projection,) McCarthy (best xFIP,) EJax (best FIP,) or Mejia (best K/9?)

Jason Collette: Garza – best situation.

12:12
Comment From randplaty
Is Alonso done?

Jason Collette: Last 3 weeks, he has the worst wOBA in baseball at .121 & a slash line of .103/.119/.155. That’s as done as my ex-wife burning a steak

12:13
Comment From Matt
Who are some under the radar minor league prospects that you like?

    Jason Collette: Ben Lively

12:13
Comment From David
Between Aaron Hill, Howie Kendrick, and Jed Lowrie, who should I like as my full-time second baseman for the remainder of the season? My league includes OBP and SLG, and uses SB – CS in place of SB.

    Jason Collette: Kendrick for me

12:14
Comment From JAY BAY
Desmond Jennings having a little bit of a breakout, no? knock on wood.

Jason Collette: Yes, he is. He’s spraying the ball around and has bulked up a bit so he’s not as overmatched against good velo from RH.

12:14
Comment From Shauntell
Drop Dominic Brown for Rasmus, Revere, Byrd, Bourn?

    Jason Collette: for Rasmus

12:14
Comment From 46 and Choo
More useful in 2015: Zimmer, Meyer, or Appel?

    Jason Collette: Meyer

12:14
Comment From Brett
Thought on Matt Cain rest of season?

Jason Collette: Grab him now while he’s hurt and cheap.

12:15
Comment From Big Joe Mufferaw
Why didnt the Rays sign Jennings to an extension? seemed like a perfect candidate? something like 5-6 years 35-40 million?

Jason Collette: Takes 2 to tango on that, and Jennings is already 27 years old.

12:15
Comment From Cory
Jason, are you still trying to buy low on Homer Bailey? I inquired and was asked for Rios… I laughed… Would you counter wit Leo Martin. Thoughts?

Jason Collette: I just can’t quit on Bailey, but I would deal Martin for him

12:15
Comment From Guest
Start Richards at Rogers today?

Jason Collette: That lineup is too hot today – I’d pass and I like Richards.

12:15
Comment From That Guy
Hey Jason, would you trade Teheran for Matt Carpenter?

Jason Collette: In a vacuum, yes

12:16
Comment From Graham
Better season ahead for Ubaldo? Looked okay last night. Drop Travis Wood for him?

Jason Collette: His strikeout rate is still down quite a bit from last year & walks are up. I’m still leery

12:16
Comment From Brad
Would you trade Cespedes for Kemp?

    Jason Collette: I wouldn’t

12:17
Comment From Jamie
Is Everth Cabrera dead to me?

Jason Collette: K% is WAY up this season. He got away with that in 2012 because he also walked (& then stole 2nd). This season, the walks are AWOL

12:18
Comment From Cito Gastons Moustache
I have Trumbo and Harper on the DL. I’ve been platooning Heyward, Rajai and Gardner. Please rank the three ROS.

Jason Collette: flip Rajai & Gardner

12:20
Comment From thanks!
Please help pick 2 young injured SPs to stash in AL keeper for 2nd-half and beyond: Walker, Paxton, Gausman, Bundy (already ready for game action in 2 weeks!)

    Jason Collette: The 2 Orioles

12:20
Comment From Cooper
Can you give me one random OF to target in a trade where I give up D Wright? (OBP league). Go!

    Jason Collette: Werth

12:21
Comment From Afternoon Coffee
What kind of return should I be looking for to move Goldschmidt? Turned down Morneau, Shark, and Soria. Got turned down for Strasburg and Perkins.

Jason Collette: Go quality, not quantity. 2 for 1, or 1 for 1.

12:22
Comment From ST3
Stanton is on track for 185 RBIs. Does this mean I have to stop calling him Mike?

Jason Collette: puts Hack Wilson’s record in perspective, no?

12:23
Comment From Big Joe Mufferaw
Who is your favorite hitter, fielder, and pitcher to watch?

    Jason Collette: Bautista, Simmons, Cobb

12:24
Comment From randplaty
What’s going on with the Padres hitting? They don’t have a qualified hitter with over a .272 OBP. Half the lineup every night is hitting under .200. Not a single hitter is really hot.

Jason Collette: It’s painful to watch this team at the plate. Worst wOBA in all of baseball & they are hitting .213 as a team. Perhaps they can move in the fences to Little League distances to give them a fighting chance.

12:24
Comment From Matt Cooke is back!
Jose Abreu or Anthony Rizzo?

    Jason Collette: Abreu

12:26
Comment From Big Joe Mufferaw
Who would be included in the inaugural Fantasy HOF class?

Jason Collette: Pedro Martinez & Larry Walker. Go Expos!

12:26
Comment From 1920s beat reporter
Are you selling high on Cueto’s injury risks? any Suggestions as to who you’d target?

Jason Collette: Yes, I’d be selling on Cueto & you should get a top 20 bat back in return.

12:26
Comment From TJ
Would you drop Billy Hamilton for George Springer? Springer finally showed a little pop & Billy is 1.) injured 2.) not stealing nearly as many bags as I thought he would

Jason Collette: Not even with a loaded gun to my head

12:27
Comment From Stan
Any concern with Machado’s slow start?

Jason Collette: He’s been back a week

12:27
Comment From Jonny Manziel
Would you trade Upton for Joey Bats? OPS is 6th category

Jason Collette: Much quicker than you were drafted last night

12:27
Comment From Ghost Hands
Thoughts on Jose Reyes ROS? A .179 BABIP looks to be the result of a very low GB/FB ratio. He’s like the opposite Billy Butler right now.

    Jason Collette: Buy, buy, buy

12:27
Comment From Rick
Thoughts on Alex Gordon? 1 HR all season & it came off Odorizzi (blurg). Think he can still muster a 20/10 campaign or is the party over?

Jason Collette: I don’t know if any KC batter will hit 20 homers. What a disappointing team at the plate this season.

12:28
Comment From Aaron
When does Jesus Aguilar make it to the majors?

    Jason Collette: June 31st

12:28
Comment From Leo Mazzone
Thinking late season when innings limits may impact usefulness, how would you rate Kluber, Chavez & Eovaldi for ROS?

    Jason Collette: In that order

12:29
Comment From meowmix
Whats the deal with Ryu. No MRI but then they don’t start the throwing program. I don’t understand why they didn’t at least put him in the the tube to make sure there was no significant damage.

Jason Collette: Teams should err on the side of caution with all pitchers, but not sure why they didn’t tube him to begin with

12:29
Comment From John
How about that NL Cy Young pick? Will he ever come around?

Jason Collette: I picked Cobb in the AL so it’s just not my year…or Bailey’s. Has to keep ball in the yard

12:30
Comment From Chris
Should I drop Fielder for Santana i paid 40 for him in dynasty Santana could be had for 12? (i also have goldy?

Jason Collette: That’s tough; I could go either way there

12:30
Comment From Big Joe Mufferaw
RE:”I need RBIs, what kind of return do you think I can get for Dee Gordon + David Price?”.. Enough to get Stanton? (non keeper)

Jason Collette: If the guy has the power to let Stanton walk, sure

12:31
Comment From Avery
Talk me down from the Billy Butler ledge. He has to be better than this??

Jason Collette: Career high strikeout rate, can’t loft the ball…this is bad

12:31
Comment From zoorzles
Is it wrong of me to drop Revere instead of Springer cause the latter finally hit a HR yesterday and I’m worried I’m about to miss a torrid streak?

Jason Collette: Go look at the piece R.J. Anderson wrote on Springer the other day. The HR yesterday shouldn’t change the fact that Springer has looked awful.

12:32
Comment From Avery
Stanton is likely to get traded, but where?

Jason Collette: If Miami deals him and he doesn’t end up in Boston, I’d be surprised. He could make that park look even smaller than it already is

12:32
Comment From Will
Expecting much out of Profar when he returns?

Jason Collette: No – guys coming back off shoulder issues tend to struggle for a bit longer

12:33
Comment From toot toot
is Ian Kennedy’s improvement for real? (such a shame his team is so miserable offensively)

Jason Collette: It is, and last night’s 12 K number was a bonus since he faced the Marlins on the road

12:33
Comment From Tim
One of the owners in my league dropped Josh Donaldson, then traded Clayton Kershaw to get him back after another owner plucked him off waivers. Now the same owner is trading Chris Davis for Papelbon. Should we hold an intervention?

    Jason Collette: QUIT THIS LEAGUE.

12:34
Comment From Sick Stadum
As a Zunino owner I’m riding a roller coaster. He shows some promising power for a game or two and then strikes out ten times in the next three games. Do you see much of a future for him or should I get used to this pattern?

Jason Collette: This is what he is. He can’t hit breaking balls but will punish mistakes

12:34
Comment From a mustachioed business tycoon
Joyce or Lind?

Jason Collette: Joyce is using all fields and drawing walks at a career-best rate. If only the guys behind him would start hitting more to score him.

12:35
Comment From BRL
Kendrick/Gardner/Archer or Springer/W Peralta 10 team keeper.

Jason Collette: Side A by quite a bit

12:35
Comment From Walker
J Upton for H Bailey, which way would you lean.

    Jason Collette: Upton

12:36
Comment From Jumanji!
Are you starting Kluber tonight in TB if you have an innings cap

Jason Collette: TB tends to matchup well vs RH but they didn’t do well vs the O’s in the last series. Rays make a lot of contact, so the K’s won’t be there for Kluber as they were the other day, but the TB lineup is a bit all over the place these days. Zobrist & Longo aren’t hitting and that’s 50% of the top of the lineup.

12:37
Comment From Guest
After years of the KC Royals being a sexy pick to be good in the Central, and how they have an ’embarassment of riches’ with young hitting, are we finally at the point where we can look back and admit that maybe they have been severely overhyped given that they still aren’t living to their potential at the plate?

Jason Collette: Honestly, I think we were at that point last season. I didn’t buy into the talk about them for this season – the offense was too short. I like the pitching staff, but it’s not the kind of staff that can go out there win you games 3-4 times a week on its own.

12:38
Comment From Melk Was a Bad Choice

Should i buy one of these?

Jason Collette: if you buy one today, you get a free foam truck hat from Tom Emanski

Adam Jones: buy low or sell low?

    Jason Collette: Buy…so consistent

12:39
Comment From Stompin Tom Connors
Someone just “LOLed” my Dee Gordon + David Price for Tulo offer.. Was he right?

Jason Collette: yea, never trade for a player at his peak. I can’t imagine what someone would want for Tulo right now.

Would yo trade melky straight for iwakuma in a redraft league??

    Jason Collette: Absolutely

12:41
Comment From Joel
Be honest: did you soil yourself at the thought of Stanton in Fenway?

Jason Collette: Seriously, it is scary to imagine what he would look like there.

12:42
Comment From Matt
Whenever I see like 90% of trade offers on the internet, I want to know how stupid the people in the league are. Some are insanely bad.

Jason Collette: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. People always overvalue their own guys and undervalue others. I love going to the CBS player pages to see trades that happen in other leagues. I wish there were a feature to see rejected offers. I had someone offer me McLouth, Lyles, and Watson for Andrew Cashner a few days ago.

12:43
Comment From ML
Why do the Indians insist on keeping Carlos Santana as a cleanup hitter when he’s batting .140?

Jason Collette: Because that’s what they’ve always done! I hope they do it for the next 3 days too

Is mmookie betts now a top 10 prospect?

Jason Collette: A scout told me last year in the AFL Betts was the best guy out there last year. This scout has never steered me wrong in the past.

Hi Jason, are you worried about Bogearts? He’s striking out a ton and not hitting for much power. Am I panicking a little too early?

Jason Collette: Ride the waves with the kid, he’ll be fine.

What’s the best way to decide who to offer in a trade? I can identify a “need” on another team that I think is there, but they don’t always see their team in the same way.

Jason Collette: Look at what your team needs and look at what the other person’s team needs and work from there. Sometimes you have to explain things and sometimes other people don’t see the same thing you do. All in all, honesty is the most important thing.

DO you think Alfonso Soriano will heat up or is it the end of the road for him?

Jason Collette: Cue the Boyz to Men music

How do the Rockies fare against Cueto tonight in Cinci?

Jason Collette: Poorly. He’s on fire right now and they don’t hit on the road

Kipnis, Zimmerman, Cain– are you buying?

Jason Collette: On all 3, yes

Thoughts on Polanco turning that contract down?

Jason Collette: Paul Sporer and I discussed that on our latest podcast — I couldn’t do it. He signed for $150K so he’s not a bonus baby so I’m surprised he turned it down. Nothing is guaranteed as as Eric Hinske told Longoria in 2008, “Never turn your back on your first million.”

Hey Jason how many dingers do u think I end up with this year? Im at 6 right now

3 biggest arms that you think will be moved mid-season? Shark, Lee? and ? others? Buehrle? Niese?

Jason Collette: Shields should be at the top of the list. KC may just hold him for the pick, but if they get a strong buyer, I don’t know how they turn it down.

Do you like what you have seen from Dellin Betances so far

    Jason Collette: Very much. Mid 90’s gas & the breaking ball…has a future as a high-leverage guy/closer.

Which of the early xFIP leaders do you think has the best chance to lower their era (Keuchel, Hutchison, McCarthy) or all, or none?

Jason Collette: all 3 – would really like McCarthy to stay healthy this year

What do you make of Machado long term for fantasy? Think he’s a bit overated?

Jason Collette: He’s a better real baseball player than a fantasy one

Any scenario where Pittsburgh trades Marte + for Stanton and trots out a Polanco, McCutchen, Stanton OF? Could be a 15 WAR OF. (I guess so could Marte, Cutch, Polanco)

Jason Collette: No, because Pitt wouldn’t be able to keep Stanton around long term.

Trade Braun for Encarnacion?

Jason Collette: If someone would say yes, absolutely

Can McCann still hit?

Jason Collette: Looks like he’s going through the early new contract pressures that affect others. Not helping that Ellsbury is showing no such signs of trouble.

Thoughts on Belt? Do you think his batted ball and plate discipline numbers make him a sell high? Is Fister enough or aim higher?

Jason Collette: Aim higher & Belt is a risk. Opening things up & going with power

Javier Baez or Maikel Franco in 2015? Longterm?

Is a Carlos Santana and Dan Haren (or Nate Eovaldi) for Alex Rios trade a fair offer? I hate selling low on Santana but I can’t use his position eligibility at all and the other guy definitely needs all three position eligibilty

Jason Collette: I’d take that offer if it were sent to me

did you like the Bortles pick?

Jason Collette: I just didn’t want him to go to Dallas. He’s going to get paid $20M+ right out of the gate & hopefully will sit most of the first season so he doesn’t get punished. Great for him, great for my school

Think the Tigers pony-up for Shields once Scherzer exits?

Jason Collette: He would love that so he wouldn’t have to face Miggy again (see matchup numbers).

So I have a full on Man Crush on Tulo. I have him on my fantasy team, what should I ask for him in a trade?

Thoughts on Chris Archer RoS? Lotta hype preseason, signed contact, and has been underwhelming…

Jason Collette: Has reverse splits going on right now & RH are getting good numbers against him. I would LOVE to see him have enough confidence in his changeup to go RH/RH with it. Right now, he’s having issues with the 2-pitch approach that was so money for him last year vs RH.

If Uribe has to go on the DL for his hamstring can you see the Dodgers calling up Alex Guerrero and sliding Hanley to 3rd and Gordon to SS? I would love to have Hanley with SS/3B eligibilty.

Jason Collette: Not sure they want to move guys around, but that’s a good idea

Yasmani Grandal or Yan Gomes in an OPS league? Gomes has the better offense but Grandal does have the batting spot and walk rate.

Jason Collette: Gomes – still a believer in him.

Back to Ben Lively for a second…he leads all MiLB qualified P’s in K% (36.2%) & FIP (1.60).

Jason Collette: and he’s doing this in the Cal League run environments! I saw him pitch 6-7 times in college here at UCF and never saw this coming.
