Jason Collette – Baseball Chat Transcript

2 hours today beginning at 11am ET – and, no, I have no idea if the Rays will yank Grant Ball-four from the closer role and who they will replace him with.

11:00
Jason Collette: Has Grant Ball-four thrown a strike yet? Let’s chat

11:01
Comment From RotoLando
What are The Ray’s

Jason Collette: A disappointing baseball team. Next question

11:02
Comment From Graham
Messed up. I’m 124.1 over for my projected IP max currently. Should I trade some pitchers or just allocate my innings better? or both?

Jason Collette: Be more choosy about who you use moving forward. Also, don’t understand the obsession with leagues putting caps on innings. Floors – sure, but if someone wants to punt saves to max out their K’s & wins, let them.

11:03
Comment From RotoLando
What are The Rays’ problems this year? Seems like the AL East is as wide open as it has ever been, but they can’t capitalize.

Jason Collette: Bullpen has been overtaxed because of too many five and dive outings. They have 13 quality starts as a team, which last I checked, is worst in baseball. Also lack a deep bench so they have been victimized by suboptimal matchups in key situations late. When you lose 60% of your rotation and your top pitching reserve, stuff like this happens.

11:04
Comment From RotoLando
Juan Carlos Montoya Lopez Nunez Oviedo!

   Jason Collette: Prepare to die!

11:05
Comment From Schilling and Pence
Two questions: (1) What’s your guess as to how Singleton performs when he gets up? (2) Is Kuroda a buy-low candidate, or is Kuroda done?

Jason Collette: 1 – He’ll struggle. 2 – I’ve always been fine owning Kuroda until mid-August when he fades off

11:05
Comment From Mike L
Thoughts on Gausman’s start? Still worth rostering?

Jason Collette: Showed some of the same flaws as last season. Good long term play

11:05
Comment From win twins
what do you expect from brian dozier the rest of the way?

Jason Collette: 25/25, .255 once the season ends.

11:06
Comment From Sam
Zack Britton’s chances of being the permanent closer? He looked great last night

Jason Collette: He’s the hot hand right now. Not convinced he’s the best long term play, but I don’t blame Buck for using a committee at this time. Hunter looks awful

11:07
Comment From KD
I just traded Chapman and Fernandez for Braun and Trumbo. Tell me Braun will stay healthy.

   Jason Collette: Enjoy the risk

11:08
Comment From Steve
What do you think of trying to trade for Verlander right now? Will he right the ship or is he going to be ok-not-great from here forward?

Jason Collette: He is a guy having to pitch with reduced velocity. When you throw 10 billion pitches in a career, the velo starts to go away and it’s done so for the past two seasons. His current K% is right at league average for starters, but his days as a Tier 1 guy for fantasy purposes are near the end.

11:08
Comment From Bimb
Jason, thoughts on dumping Everth for Asdrubal in a shallow 6 by 5? OBP added.

Jason Collette: If you can afford the loss in speed, go for it.

11:11
Comment From Tony G.
If you were to target three fantasy buy-low candidates in the American League right now, who would they be?

Jason Collette: Carlos Santana, Chris Archer, and Soriano

11:11
Comment From Mark
Would you trade Jesse Chavez and Tyson Ross for Johnny Peralta and Jon Lester? Need a replacement for Zobrist

   Jason Collette: Yes

11:12
Comment From jocephus
the day super 2 passes needs to be on a tuesday, ie super tuesday, make it a holiday

Jason Collette: It needs to pass into oblivion. It’s bad enough we’re losing good pitchers to injury, but needing to wait around for guys like Polanco and Taveras is frustrating and stupid.

11:12
Comment From JDagg
My Greg Holland for his Homer Bailey. Who wins?

Jason Collette: You do. Great time to buy low on Bailey.

11:13
Comment From Jawarahal
MOOKIE BETTS. DISCUSS.

Jason Collette: I’ll repeat what I said last week – a scout I trust very much said Betts was the best guy he saw in the AL & he was going to be huge in 2014.

11:13
Comment From JDagg
Should I be dropping Jason Castro for Zunino or Pinto? I hate all the K’s

Jason Collette: I love Pinto. He’s a hitter. Zunino is not. That said, I’d still want Castro for this season.

11:14
Comment From Grunge
I got Gyorko and Xander at 3B (yes, pretty poor). I’m tired of playing the wrong guy. Who would you recommend plugging in the rest of the way and letting it be?

   Jason Collette: Bogaerts

11:15
Comment From toot toot
who should I grab from the waiver wire to fill in for rasmus?

   Jason Collette: Another outfielder

In all seriousness, it helps tremendously when proposing a question like this to see what names you are considering. I don’t know what your FA pools look like

11:15
Comment From Paul
Jason! Fair trade value for Kazmir? I’m trying to get Wil Myers, you think that’s fair? I tried Ellsbury, but got rejected, ha.

Jason Collette: Kazmir for Myers is fair

11:15
Comment From JIM
Any concerns about Cole Hamels?

Jason Collette: Despite the Phillies letting him throw 133 pitches in his 4th start off the DL with a shoulder issue? No.

11:17
Comment From Graham
What’s your take on Brett Gardner this season?

Jason Collette: Not accepting of his walks & not making the contact he normally does.

11:18
Comment From Brad
Do you think Jordan Zimmermann’s increased k% rate here to stay?

Jason Collette: In that division, sure. His big games have come 2x vs Miami & once vs the Astros.

11:18
Comment From Chips Ahoy!
What does Solarte slash when he comes back down to earth?

   Jason Collette: .240/.300/.350

11:19
Comment From Mark
Do you see Khris Davis turning it around?

Jason Collette: never seen a guy struggle so much at home and do well on the road. That said, the fact he has just three more walks than you or I do is just awful

11:19
Comment From Steve
Do you think Hank Conger will become the primary catcher for the Angels in the near future?

Jason Collette: I thought so since March. Big Conger supporter

11:20
Comment From JDagg
seems like Odorizzi is Jared Cosart on a better team. Agree?

Jason Collette: Different path to results since Cosart has a better fastball & velo. I like what Odorizzi has done the last couple of times out using his curveball as his secondary pitch to change eye levels to make his fastball look better. That split-change wasn’t working for him as well as the curve has. The third pitch has been a difference maker.

11:21
Comment From Gary
Do you think Chris Davis turns in 35+ homers here on out? 2 thus far. UGH.

Jason Collette: I don’t think he finishes at 30 homers

11:21
Comment From toot toot
whoops – just saw seth smith is available. decent grab, right?

Jason Collette: You’ve missed out on a lot of great #’s from him already, but, yes

11:21
Comment From Bird Lover
You think motte ends up closing for the cards this year? Rosenthal has struggled and with motte being in the final year of a contract they may try and build some value?

Jason Collette: In the end, Motte’s value is going to be determined by how he looks velo wise & command, not what his save totals look like.

11:22
Comment From Mikey
Do you think Mookie actually plays for BoSox in 2014? Or is he the newest member of the top 5 prospects club moving into 2015? Think he could do zobrist levels of damage for them right now…

Jason Collette: I don’t see a clear path to PT for him without injury

11:22
Comment From Adam
Time to give up on Khris Davis for Gerardo Parra?

   Jason Collette: safer move, yes

11:22
Comment From Percy
Thoughts on RA Dickey? 5 straight QS’s. KNuck velo since mid last year looks very close to 2012.

Jason Collette: I think I mentioned on this chat a few weeks ago to buy in on Dickey.

11:23
Comment From Tdubb
I feel like running for the hills and selling Ventura in fear of the TJ bug. Any idea where you would place his value for either a batter-pitcher wise?

Jason Collette: I never hesitate to trade young pitching for hitting. Aim high with him and inch your way down

11:23
Comment From Matt
Any concerns about Dave Cameron?

Jason Collette: Now that I’m moving closer to him, perhaps his liver if we get together for beers

11:24
Comment From paul swydans hat
Tanaka or Darvish ROS?

Jason Collette: I own both in AL Tout Wars – I’m very happy. If you made me choose one, I’ll take Darvish

11:25
Comment From Greg
I’m in the unfortunate position of having Butler and Craig as my Util players in a two Util league. How much longer should I give them? Would you replace either with any of Texeira, Dunn, Smoak or Ozuna (in a league with an extra category for walks)?

Jason Collette: I could replace Butler with Teix

11:25
Jason Collette: need a 5 min break. Important phone call

11:30
Jason Collette: ok, back. sorry

11:30
Comment From tommy
my ozuna for his villar? thoughts?

Jason Collette: Yes, I really like Villar

11:31
Comment From Guest
AJ Pollock a 20/20 candidate

Jason Collette: that’s 16/15 ROS — I’ll take the under on that

11:31
Comment From Brad
If you were Dayton Moore, and KC is out of contention, do you trade Greg Holland?

Jason Collette: I wrote that up on the front page today. I would. I’d rather move forward with Wade Davis and his controlled costs than be at the mercy of the arbitration system or an agent leveraging Craig Kimbrel’s new extension

11:33
Comment From Open Roster Spot
Injuries not included, what keeper has been the most disappointing for fantasy owners this year in your opinion?

   Jason Collette: Segura or Sandoval

11:34
Comment From why roto?
why do sabrnerds still play a roto format that values things like saves and stolen bases? ottoneu points seems to better capture the variables that matter.

Jason Collette: Because it’s driven by their financial streams. Most experts are working for sites that publish draft magazines and guides and such and those things are driven toward the mainstream. I’d love to play in a league that was done all on advanced metrics myself

11:34
Comment From Jim
Joc Pederson, let the man eat!

Jason Collette: The buffet line is full right now

11:34
Comment From Bethany
You see alex meyer in twins rotation within the month?

   Jason Collette: Yes, I do

11:35
Comment From Guest
Start Scherzer against Boston? Career numbers pretty ugly. Thanks!

Jason Collette: 8 career starts isn’t anything predictive, but the 2 outings he had vs them last year were much better than the previous six.

11:35
Comment From Roger Dorn
Longoria and Verlander giving up too much for Trout? I’d still have Arenado at 3B.

Jason Collette: For what Trout is doing right now, you shouldn’t have to pay that price

11:36
Comment From S in London
In real life and fantasy, still Lindor > Mookie?

Jason Collette: real life, yes. Fantasy? scratch

11:36
Comment From Chappy
What do you see from Rizzo over the next few years, is he a top 5 1B in a keeper?

Jason Collette: With the growth he’s showing this year, yes

11:36
Comment From Allyson
I’m over the max games played in several categories, will i regret benching my reyes/melky/bautista tonight against darvish?

Jason Collette: Darvish is coming off that heavy pitch load but did get an extra day’s rest. I’m not expecting a great outing from him tonight.

11:37
Comment From ashtray
If you were tired of seeing Gyorko leave ohfer’s all over your fantasy team would you give up Weaver/Lindstrom for Altuve?

   Jason Collette: Yes, I would.

11:38
Comment From Graham
Mejia put a death grip on the closer role now?

Jason Collette: That’s on a day to day basis. They wanted to limit his innings this year, but not sure putting him in as closer and letting him warm up repeatedly, etc, is a great play either.

11:38
Comment From Jon
What kind of bat is D Price worth these days?

Jason Collette: One that was taken in the first 5 rounds

11:39
Comment From Grape Soda
Combining current roster and farm system, which team has the brightest outlook over the next five years?

   Jason Collette: Boston

11:40
Comment From JDagg
Chances that Mejia takes and keeps the closer role in NY? How about the same for Salazar?

Jason Collette: Salazar needs to go to the minors and work it out and let Bauer come up. Salazar needed 98 pitches to get through 4 IP last night vs Toronto. His stuff, when used properly, is too good to be that bad.

11:40
Comment From Mike
Melky Cabrera – PEDs means he can’t be comeback player of year right? Otherwise, any reason he isn’t SF/kc 2011/2012 vers this year? LEGIT. (plus spinal tumor offsets peds in the karmic scheme of things no?).

Jason Collette: The tumor thing outweighs any PED BS excuse in my book. Melky is roaring like a lion these days.

11:41
Comment From Fanta Orange
Masahiro Tanaka is the ___ best pitcher in the American league right now

Jason Collette: He’s in the top five. I love what Buerhle is doing this year, as well as Max, Kaz, Richards, and Darvish.

11:43
Comment From Andrew
Billy Butler’s only 28 is he already declining?

Jason Collette: No chance the Royals pick up his $12.5M option for next year at this rate, so he’ll get a $1M buyout and become a free agent. Bad timing

11:44
Comment From NoGo?
CarGo has the lowest avg and OPS of any Rockies starting position player…is an explosion on the horizon for my most expensive OF????

Jason Collette: There was some reason to be wary of this happening for him due to the high strikeout rate last year.

11:44
Comment From That Guy
Hey Jason – What do you think of rostering Betances/Wade Davis over Salazar/Eovaldi (my SP7 and SP8) in a 10-team league with a 200 start limit and QS, K/9 and IP as cats?

Jason Collette: I’m for that. 2 best K% for relievers this year – Betances has looked amazing

11:44
Comment From Pete
Any hope for Martin Prado or is he droppable?

Jason Collette: I dropped him 2 weeks ago

11:45
Comment From JDagg
Brett Lawrie finishes at the ___ rated 2B at seasons end?

   Jason Collette: 10th

11:46
Comment From a parallel universe where Trout is just okay
Which team needs to make a play for Samardzija the most?

   Jason Collette: Texas, LAA

11:47
Comment From Phil
Now that we’ve seen Gausman, what pitching prospects would you stash over him this year for 2nd half help?

   Jason Collette: Bauer, Meyer

11:47
Comment From Guest
Reyes and Cingrani for Fielder sound fair?

   Jason Collette: That’s not a good buy-low

11:48
Comment From Pete
SSS but thoughts on Machado so far?

Jason Collette: Not the same guy so far at the plate. Timing still looks off. I would have him hitting lower in the lineup

11:48
Comment From Guest
Drop axford for Qualls?

Jason Collette: No, believe in both, but Axford has better stuff

11:49
Comment From Dan
I’m employing a Trojan horse strategy with Ball-four. Instead of letting him kill my team, I dropped him while he is still the “closer” and hope another team picks him up so he can kill their ERA and WHIP from the inside. What a dope.

Jason Collette: His velo is down 1.6 mph from last season, but that is irrelevant to me because he can’t command his fastball. Batters are spitting on chase sliders, so he has to throw strikes with it or locate his fastball better. He’s doing neither with any kind of regularity right now. Last night, it was taking him 30+ seconds between some pitches as he tugged, arranged & went through all sorts of pre-pitch gyrations. I’d like to see him just take it and fire it and stop allowing his rage to overtake things.

11:50
Comment From Adrian
Are you in agreement for sending Moustakas down to the minors?

Jason Collette: It should have happened awhile ago

11:50
Comment From Ed
Do you think Mike Minor is going to be Mike Minor again moving forward? He looked good in his last outing. Concerns about his shoulder injury hampering him?

Jason Collette: Shoulder issues always worry me as they do tend to linger rather than just disappear

11:51
Comment From Stannk
I have Jason Altuve and Dustin Pedroia both on my team. If I can’t trade one of them, who would you play?

Jason Collette: Pedroia – numbers are much better since moving to the top of the lineup

11:51
Comment From Dan
I need one more pitcher this week. Tanner Roark today against NYM or start Anibel Sanchez off the DL at BOS?

Jason Collette: Roark – don’t like starting most guys fresh off the DL

11:51
Comment From Some Schlob
Who wins his Holliday and Lackey or my Cuddyer and Ventura?

   Jason Collette: He does

11:52
Comment From LouSeal
12 team keeper league (we keep 8 players every season). I have Stanton, Davis, Machado, Bogaerts, Polanco, Freeman, Billy Hamilton, Trumbo, Strasburg, Teheran, Shelby Miller, Samardijza,…who woud you keep. Am I crazy for thinking about flipping Bogaerts and/or Machado—not sure about their ceilings

Jason Collette: I’d flip Machado – still feel his real value exceeds his fantasy value by a bit.

11:52
Comment From Brad
Lost Zobrist in pts league, do you like Jroll or Alcides as replacement? Thanks.

Jason Collette: I’ll take Alcides Escobar

11:53
Comment From Rafi
Who wins in this trade: Team A gets Votto. Team B gets Holiday, Segura, Morse. Keeper league, and Team A loses Votto as keeper.

Jason Collette: Team B, by quite a bit. I don’t see what Team A is hoping to gain from that other than ridicule from other owners

11:53
Comment From Brett
Who is your best buy low pitcher right now besides Archer (I already have him)?

   Jason Collette: Homer Bailey

11:54
Comment From Jimmy
J, any signs that Gordon/Butler can come on or is time to move on from either/both?

Jason Collette: I’d be selling both at discounts.

11:54
Comment From Paul
Better stash for 2014, Javier Baez or Mookie Betts?

Jason Collette: Baez for me — the power

11:55
Comment From Kiko
Worried about Longo’s dropping batted ball distance? Should I shop him? Would still have Arenado

Jason Collette: I’m more worried about his inconsistent approach at the plate. Taking too many pitches early & then taking protective swings. I’d like to see him be more aggressive early and hit the fastballs he’s taking.

11:56
Comment From Ed
How would you rank the following SPs ROS in a 12-team mixed 5×5: Kennedy, Keuchel, Ryu, Minor, Kazmir, Smyly, Kluber? Thanks!

Jason Collette: Kazmir, Kluber, Smyly, Minor, Ryu, Keuchel, Kennedy. Honestly, not a big drop off across that spectrum for me.

11:56
Comment From Harold
Really starting to worry about Mike Trout. .269 batting average, iwth a decent BABIP! Zips still very high on his ROS projections, but starting to get offers in my league. Should I consider moving him? Think top 5 player, top 5 prospect, top 50 starter for him, etc.

Jason Collette: Never, ever, trade Mike Trout.

11:57
Comment From MIkeS
Thank you for not making me dropping Kluber 2 weeks ago.

Jason Collette: He’s a great reminder that the season is a marathon, not a sprint. He’s looking fantastic these days.

11:57
Comment From Salvatore Muffins
Thoughts on Tanaka so far? Is he even close to this good?

Jason Collette: If he keeps getting swinging strikes and not walking anyone like this, yea, he’s going to be good. Next time through the league will be something to watch, but this is legit.

11:58
Comment From Matt
Do you think Wil Myers will turn it around this season? Looks like he’s starting to?

Jason Collette: He’s looked better at the plate, yes. Using all fields a bit more instead of trying to turn & burn on everything.

11:59
Comment From Rated Rookie
In a keep forever league, name a few (currently healthy) SPs would you be willing to accept in exchange for Jose Fernandez? (This question fills me with sadness and bile.)

Jason Collette: I bet you could get Homer Bailey right now for Fernandez and be much better off for it over the next 2 years.

12:00
Comment From JOE
Best replacement for B. Miller out of Owings Jeter E. Escobar?

Jason Collette: I’ll take Escobar. Miller’s struggles pain me – he looked so good last season but looks so lost right now

12:00

Thoughts on Cano and continued lack of power? What’s his slash line look like end of year?

Jason Collette: I think he’ll still get to 20 and hit .290

12 team keeper, last place looking to trade a blue-chip (Hanley). What sort of return should I expect? Bogaerts and Machado enough?

   Jason Collette: Yes

G. Richards for 2 years, or Yu for the rest of this year? Contracts are similar and I’m in 2nd…

   Jason Collette: Yu

I find it comical how the current Pirates OFs are either underperforming or downplaying injury. I guess Jaff Decker is on standby.

Jason Collette: He was sent down to Triple-A yesterday. I just want PolancoWatch to end already

12:01
Comment From Art Vandelay
Paul Molitor – future manager of the Twins? Dozier is heaping praise on him for not only turning around their offense, but also instituting the shift on defense.

Jason Collette: Certainly looks like it. Lots of good bench managers out there – Davey Martinez here in Tampa Bay would make a great skipper as well.

12:02
Comment From Jimmy
Matt Cain a good buy low?

Jason Collette: Yes, just as he was last year at this time

12:02
Comment From Brad
Would you trade Ventura who can be kept for 18th rd pick for Wil Myers who can be kept for a 7th rd pick?

Jason Collette: Goes back to what I said earlier – when you have a young hitter and pitcher of similar value, go with the hitter

12:04
Comment From Guest
Better ROS Eovaldi or Richards?

Jason Collette: Richards – will have more consistent run support

Keeper league. Trade Yordano Ventura for Nelson Cruz?

Jason Collette: Yea, I can get behind that. Cruz is flourishing in OPACY

Any word on Mesoraco? Debating whether or not to cut Ramos for him.

Jason Collette: Last I heard, he was coming back today or tomorrow

12:06
Comment From Andrew
Thoughts on Justin Upton going forward? He’s produced, but plate discipline has been somehow worse than last year. Career high K rate and swinging strike rate, with career low Z-contact. Shades of his brother…scared me enough to deal him for Strasburg.

Jason Collette: Upton for Stras works for me

12:06
Comment From Benji
Will Alfonso Soriano turn it around or is he done

Jason Collette: He’s always been streaky. I think he’s a nice buy-low guy right now.

12:07
Comment From Sam
What are your thoughts on Jesse Chavez for ROS? Can he really keep this up? He’s never come close to 100 innings in a season.

Jason Collette: That’s the worry for me – how he holds up later in the season. Right now, enjoy the ride but plan for alternatives.

12:07
Comment From Roger Dorn
Who would you rather have ROS Verlander or Gray?

Jason Collette: Honestly, Gray. He was my sleeper Cy Young pick before the season

12:07

Which two of Salazar, Ventura, Kluber, Eovaldi should I keep as my SP5 and SP6 in 10-team with QS, IP, K/9. 200 starts limit

   Jason Collette: Kluber & Ventura

12:08

Will Ian Desmond still reach 20/20?

Jason Collette: 15/17 ROS is the impossibible for him. See what I did there?

What kind of OF would it take to land Price? Or is he a hot potato?

Jason Collette: Offer Melky – I bet someone bites

12:09
Comment From S in London
Txs for the chat, love your work!! Somewhat geeky question: When doing your projections for your fantasy team – how do you handle bench spots? A team with, say, 6 hitters (and no pitchers) on the bench will have more ‘expected production’ in batting, but of course not all those bench spots play every day. What adjustments do you make to come up with the ‘best estimate’ of a team’s overall expected production?

Jason Collette: I don’t factor in the bench for anything as I know I’m going to recycle those spots to pick guys up or to throw into trades.

12:10
Comment From tommys johns
dynasty league, what kind of OF could i get for a TJ’s fernandez right now? currently in second place and he ain’t gonna help me right now.

Jason Collette: aim high and see who bites. With the recent stories of Daniel Hudson and Cory Luebke, nothing with TJ is guaranteed.

12:10

Are you buying, selling or holding on Braun?

Jason Collette: the bookends of that question

Is TJ the new Chicken Pox? Everyone gets it once, unlucky ones twice, and you can’t trust anyone who hasnt had it yet?

Jason Collette: Good analogy. Just tired of seeing someone go down every 2.5 days (stat Passan used the other day)

12:12

12:12

Start De la Rosa at home vs the Padre’s today theyre offense has been pretty bad?

Time to cash in on Cueto?

Jason Collette: Absolutely. This is Mt. Everest peak value

Thoughts on Juan Francisco? Better option than Todd Frazier…just makes me think of Edwin E moving from the Reds to Toronto & his first year of mashing delight.

Jason Collette: This could go away as quickly as it came. I’d rather have Frazier.

Chances of The Shark being traded this Summer? 90%?

Jason Collette: 99.9% – Cubs need to find a system to send him to that will give them controllable pitching in return

Concerned about Rosenthal? ERA over 5 killing my whip. Whats up wit that? He was flat out dominant last year

Keuchel, Pomeranz, or Beckett ROS?

Is a rotation of Kluber, Kazmir, Keuchel, Quintana, Lackey and Nolasco good enough to hang with the big boys in a 10-team AL-only?

   Jason Collette: I think so

12:17
Comment From Matt
I wish people in my league traded like people on the internet. They are to stubborn/intelligent/paranoid.

Jason Collette: Every league has its personalities. In my home league, it’s mostly the same people that we had when we started 15 years ago and the trading personalities have changed quite a bit. People are more conservative with their trades but quicker to add/drop folks.

McCann is going to come around, right? If not, drop him for Ramos or Meseraco?

I feel like in my league, I’m the only one making trade offers and it puts me in a bad trading position… What should I do?

Jason Collette: Stop making offers and start up dialogs with teams to see what they are looking for. Too many people just sling trades out there to see what sticks.

Can Mike Fiers come up and hold a rotation spot?

Jason Collette: He’s looking good in Triple-A, but there’s no rotation spot for him right now.

Comment From Ray Knight
Dee Gordon can’t keep this up can he?

Jason Collette: He’s going to run as long as he’s getting on base. He’s making better contact this season and with that speed, anything is possible when he puts it into play. His brother has a chance at being a top 5 draft pick this June out of an Orlando HS

12:20
Comment From JoJo Reyes
Enigmatic veterans Liriano and Beckett. Are you buying either one this season? THoughts?

If Jays are out of it before the trade deadline, what would they receive if they decide to make Bautista and E5 available in seperate deals.

Jason Collette: I don’t see them putting E5 up on the block as he’s only due $10M each of the next 2 seasons with one as a team option. That’s cheap. Bautista is in same situation but is due $14M each of next 2. They should be able to get quite a bit in return for his services at that price.

Not Joey Votto too. Did Baseball Gods go on Fangraphs and say “Hmm, Lets see who their favorite players are and take Kershaw,Chapman,Fern, and Votto. While we are at it, give Mike Trout a slump”

Jason Collette: UUUUUUUUGH. Just saw that news. I wonder if Thom Brennaman will call Votto in the MRI tube to harass him about not expanding his strike zone with RISP since he mentions it every single damn broadcast

If you owned Blackmon, who’s the worst OF you’d take for him in a 1-for-1?

Jason Collette: If you’re trading 1 for 1, you’re dealing for a need. That is going to determine the type of OF you need in return more than the name.

What was your opinion of the rizzo-cashner trade when it happened and what is your opinion now? hindsight is always 20-20 but its hard for me to imagine the padres being like – no seriously, we have yonder alonso, we will be fine

Jason Collette: I thought it was a good baseball trade at the time, but given how tough it is to develop franchise 1B, it’s not a trade I would have made.

Everyone’s high on Keuchel right now, but his worst start of the year was against the Ms, the first time he’s faced a team twice. I think this next start against the Angels will tell a lot.

Seems crazy to be asking, but put these in order rest of the year please…Arenado, Rendon, Wright, Beltre, Donaldson. Seems like a lot of question marks.

Jason Collette: Donaldson, Arenado, Wright, Beltre, Rendon & not too much of a gap on that spectrum. Splitting hairs for the most part

When will V Mart get more chances to gain C eligibility? Not for a while right?

last year i was in the running for first and traded away rendon in an nl only keeper. I thought it was ok, bc I had gyorko as well and convinced myself that rendon was a better real life player but the power made gyorko a better fantasy player. any light at the end of the tunnel for gyorko? does he get to 20 this year?

Jason Collette: I’ll take the under on 20 for the Jerk Store, but sorry you dealt away Rendon. Had I been doing these chats last year, I would have strongly advised not doing that.

Is the loss of velocity through aging the same for hard and soft throwers?

Jason Collette: Good question. I would think so, but the effect would be tougher on the soft throwers that were already living on the margins. Unless they could consistently locate like a Buehrle or a Vargas, could fall apart more quickly.

Rosario a lot better than D. Norris hitting, no better, or slightly better?

Jason Collette: Rosario’s raw power is rivaled by few. Stunned at what Norris has done so far, but Rosario is still the better long-term play.

12:41
Comment From Magilla Gorilla
Stanton cant keep up this pace….right? Obviously he wont end with 180 RBI, but the HR pace? (barring the health bug)

Jason Collette: He can’t – the guys in front of him won’t continue to get on base at the rate they are doing so. With Jose gone, you have to wonder if the Marlins are more open to trading Stanton this year at peak value.

12:41
Comment From Matt
Could the Rockies realistically move for Stanton? Move say Gray,Dahl,Herrera,McMahon for him? It would be beautiful and perfect.

Jason Collette: Stanton in Coors 81 games a season would be worth any price of admission

12:42
Comment From Patrick
Hosmer is going to start hitting for power, right? I was really expecting a 20/10 season from him…seemed to be moving in the right direction last year.

Jason Collette: groundballs rarely become home runs He’s still beating the ball into ground over 50% of the time.

Why isn’t Jason Heyward better than this? What happened to the perennial MVP candidate he was thought to be?

Jason Collette: Bad contact. He’s drawing walks, not striking out too much, but what he does put in play is not well hit. Puzzling

Trout does have a .269 BA, but his OBP is in the high .350s, his OPS is .888 and his OPS+ is 148.
