With a top starting pitching prospect, how many years ( on average or best guess) does it take from the time they enter the majors to reach their peak?
It’s a simple calculation…3.14159 years…easy as pie.
Why would Mayo or anyone say Lindor is a better prospect than Baez? No power and doesn’t look like he can hit .300.
Because of his glove… It is not a fantasy ranking.
I don’t give a crap about a guys glove. As long as he is adequate in the field then that’s fine with me. I’ll take the better hitter EVERY time.
I don’t see a guy who has a ceiling of .300 but will probably be Brenden Ryan being a top 15 prospect.
Yep, his glove – and I think a lot of scouts think he could be a .300 hitter or in that ballpark. If you’re just projecting contact skills based on his BA this year you’re not going to get good results.
Maybe Lindor is perceived a better prospect than Baez because many evaluators have the same concern about Baez’ plate discipline as Keith Law who remarked about Baez “He swings at everything and then some.”
Although baseball history is littered with busts because they never acquired plate discipline, most fans still default to the rationalization that a lack of plate discipline in one of their top prospects will be cured automatically with more experience.
So you have that going for you…which is nice.
