One Night Only: Game Previews for September 7th
Featured Game
Boston (10) at Toronto (6) | 19:07 ET
• This game is mostly meaningless, on the one hand, in terms of playoff implications.
• On the other hand, so is every jerky game in the whole jerky league, basically.
• And this is the only one that’ll feature Torontonian Brett Lawrie.
• Which, you probably heard all the news yesterday about how he leads the league in Player NERD.
• That was pret-ty, pret-ty, pret-ty, pret-ty, pret-ty big news.

On the other hand, so is every jerky game in the whole jerky league, basically.
Sentences like this written in early September will convince Bud and his cabal to introduce a playoff format that will make the NBA’s or NHL’s look exclusionary and brief.
Hey, I know, there are 30 teams right now, if they expand into Vegas and Nashville they could have 32 teams and all of them could make the playoffs. Perfect! every team is alive up until the last day of the season! It would be impossible NOT to sell tickets. Then the World Series could run over the Christmas holiday and compete directly with the NFL!
For MLB, 30 teams is fine and in fact a ratings improvement if you look at it properly. During the playoffs, when the Yankees or Red Sox lose, they can just re-buy in as the 31st and 32nd teams. Double ratings!
Grienke v Carpenter – 2 Former CY Young winners and only a 9.
Mmm, jerky. I like how you get stuck between my teeth so that I can enjoy your salty, stringy goodness four hours later.
I’m all about the Battle of the Justins today!
Does AJ Burnett have a high NERD based solely on morbid curiosity?
Hand is taking on Dickey? Sounds more like someone’s personal plans than a pitching match-up.
Glad to hear you’re a big fan of Curb and Parks and Rec Carson!
Lawrie isn’t from Toronto. He’s from British Columbia.
