Playoff Chat Extravaganza

What better way to celebrate roughly 11 hours of playoff baseball than by bringing back the all day chat session? None, I say, so that’s what we’re doing. Your favorite FanGraphs authors, and myself, will be hanging out, watching baseball, and talking about the goings on and happenings with you all. Festivities begin at 1:30 and end when our fingers hurt. Come hang with us. It will be fun.

Dave is the Managing Editor of FanGraphs.

1:30? isn’t that when the rays and rangers start?
no pre-pre-game warmup chat? you know, with the “Keys to the Game” crap and all that?

I’m with Not David (not not with david), fire it up already!

Yeah, Dave, the Phils offense is real overrated. Good call man.

They scored 4 runs, they didn’t throw the no hitter. They are still overrated and you are terribly misinformed to insinuate otherwise, especially after ROY HALLADAY won that game.

Angry Reds fan much?

I’m glad the Reds made the playoffs. Nice little team. Good future. Votto is a hell of a player. They just are running into a significantly better team–not really their fault, but they just don’t have much of a chance. Dave Cameron can mislead people all he wants (using team wOBA stats for the season when the Phils are a significantly different offense now that eveyrone’s healthy), but the Phils are a far better team. Sorry, that’s just the truth.

No, I’m not a Reds fan.

I just don’t see how you can be such a pretentious douchebag when nothing’s been proven or disproven. The Phils scored 4 runs today, no more, no less. That’s BELOW average. How is that basis to claim that Dave was wrong in saying that the Phillies’ offense is overrated? And in such a manner at that.

Not only do they just score 4 runs, 3 of them were an absolute gift due to an error (generously scored an infield hit) and a misplayed outfield ball.

Kudos to the Phils (especially Halladay), but the ability to put up effectively 1 ER against the Reds isn’t exactly disproving the Dave overrated thesis. They had 3 actual hits, + the 2 gifts making a total of 5 hits for the game… they were truly mashing!

Wanna bet on how many they score against Arroyo? He’s going to get lit up.

Look, just face it. The Phils are the best team in the NL, by far. Dave Cameron can be as contrarian as he wants, but we all know this is true. They won 97 games with the most injuries of any team. Carlos Ruiz hits 7th or 8th and probably has a higher OBP than the best player on your favorite team. They scored only 18 less runs than the Reds, and that’s missing Utley for 50 games, Rollins for 70, Howard for 20, Victorino for 20, Polanco for 30, etc. Just deal with it–Dave was wrong, and so are you.

Is there an investigation under way as to why Liriano is getting squeezed and fucking Sabathia gets a strike zone a mile wide? This should be embarrassing for MLB.

Well, fucking baseball gets their wish. Squeeze Liriano and give Sabathia every fucking thing until the Yankees fucking win. What a fucking joke.

Fuck baseball and fuck the cheating umpires. It’s so god damn obvious they’ve already decided who will win this game. The strike zone for the Yankees, whenever needed, shrinks or expands as needed to ensure the Yankees get every call. It’s so obvious, it’s pathetic.

Yeah, if you look at the plots, it actually appears that the Yankees got squeezed more than the Twins did.
