Jason Collette – Baseball Chat Transcript

11:32
Jason Collette: Good morning. I don’t know when Polanco, Pederson, Taveras, Buxton, et al are going to be recalled so please don’t ask. If it were up to me, I’d have them all in the majors right now.

11:36
Comment From Steve Z
Is Juan Francisco for real?

Jason Collette: His power is legit, but his playing time is crowded with Lind back and Lawrie not exactly sounding happy about playing second base. Play him in matchups & anything is possible but I don’t think Milwaukee was wrong for letting him go as they did despite the short term success thus far.

11:36
Comment From wes
Got offered Abreu for my Fielder in 10-team redraft with OPS. Should I do it?

Jason Collette: Yes, Fielder may hit for a better average, but Abreu is going to finish with 8-10 more homers

11:37
Comment From John
When is my favorite prospect being called up

    Jason Collette: June 31st

11:37
Comment From Smalls
Do I keep holding onto Sandoval?

Jason Collette: Take the round you drafted him and subtract that from 26 weeks. That’s how long you have to hold onto any player.

11:38
Comment From Manchester Steve
Predictions on Abreu and Morneau’s stat lines to finish the year(R/HR/RBI/AVG). Thanks!

    Jason Collette: Abreu: 75/44/110/.268 ; Morneau: 66/22/82/.285

Eno Sarris Baseball Chat — 5/8/14

11:40
Eno Sarris: I’ll be here in 20!

11:40
BlackKidsVEVO:

11:41
Eno Sarris: In the meantime.

12:00
Comment From Chad Miller
Hi Eno. Been excited for this chat all week, so thanks for doing it. I’m in an AL-only keeper league and have Brad Miller as my SS. Do you think the Mariners ride out this cold streak, or could Miller really find himself in AAA soon? Also, can you name any American League SS-eligible players that might be completely under the radar right now? The best available options on my league’s waiver wire are Eric Sogard, Ryan Flaherty and Danny Santana, so it’s slim pickings out there!!!

12:01
Eno Sarris: You’re stuck! And, for what it’s worth, I think they stick with him a while longer. They’ve started worse bats at the position and he’s playing good defense. If you could pick up Eric Sogard for a bench piece to protect yourself, you might get a few good starts out of the A.

12:01
Comment From You can put it on the board, YES
I remember a Cubs guy very arrogantly saying over the off season that Baez would be up in June.

FanGraphs Chat – 5/7/14

11:41
Dave Cameron: It’s Wednesday, so let’s talk (non-fantasy) baseball for an hour or so.

11:41
Dave Cameron: The queue is open, and we’ll start around noon.

12:02
Comment From Benji
At this point is Allen Craig broken?

12:03
Dave Cameron: He’s probably not going to be what he was in prior years, but at the same time, he actually hit really well last week, so there’s no reason to think he’s more broken now than you did 10 days ago.

12:03
Comment From zurzles
What to make of the Ian Kennedy resurgence? His K/9’s never been this high

12:03
Dave Cameron: The Padres have two catchers who rank very well in various framing metrics.

FanGraphs After Dark Chat – 5/6/14

7:53
Paul Swydan: Hey, guess what, I’m an idiot and I forgot to set up the chat before I went out to dinner with my in-laws. But now I’m here. You’re here. We’re all here! Well, not Jeff, he’s off tonight. But load me up with questions, and I’ll attack them with aplomb at 9 pm ET.

See you soon!

9:01
Paul Swydan: Hi everybody!!! There are so many games on right now. Is this heaven?

9:01
Comment From Guest
Mark Ellis, Kolten Wong, and Greg Garcia are all sitting in favor of Daniel Descalso because, “Daniel has had a couple of hits and Mark has had some trouble with (Floyd).”

9:02
Paul Swydan: That seems like a great way to start the chat.

9:02
Paul Swydan: It’s stuff like this that keeps me believing that most of the Cardinals’ success is the players and the front office, and that Matheny just stands there and looks pretty.

9:03
Comment From Jon
For pitchers, what number is considered as good for K% and BB%? This page http://www.fangraphs.com/li… only has a table for hitters.

Jeff Sullivan FanGraphs Chat — 5/6/14

9:07
Jeff Sullivan: Hey there everybody. Still sick, still tardy like usual, but still present to talk about baseball. So let’s talk about baseball!

9:07
Jeff Sullivan: And probably exclusively baseball!

9:07
Jeff Sullivan: Except for this:

9:08
Comment From Tim
Holy crap is this a new record for lateness

9:08
Jeff Sullivan: I was just as late last week!

9:08
Comment From Cory
Victor Martinez has a 3.5% strikeout rate

Comment From I changed names!
The angels put Mike Trout on the block (hypothetically), how many teams have the chips to actually get him?

Jason Collette: Chips & cash? One – Boston

11:59
Comment From Rated Rookie
Better things ahead for Chris Archer? Seems like not so many strikeouts and lots of hard contact. I mean, that’s what it looks like when MLB.TV isn’t buffering.

Jason Collette: He looked fantastic yesterday through the first 4 innings and then completely lost his release point.

11:59
Jason Collette: Be right back – auto glass guy just showed up. Oh yea, never go to dealerships that crack your windshield while doing an oil change on your car and then say the car was like that when you brought it in.

12:08
Jason Collette: OK, sorry. Back. Let’s get rolling!

FanGraphs Chat – 4/30/14

11:26
Dave Cameron: Happy Wednesday. I’m at the doctor’s office (no worries, everything is fine) so the chat might be a little late starting today, but I’ll make up for it on the back end if we don’t start right at 12.

12:06
Dave Cameron: Alright, let’s get this party started.

12:06
Comment From RK
Has your opinion of Trevor Bauer changed at all in the first month? Seem to recall you were pretty down on him (like most of us).

12:08
Dave Cameron: Personally, I think the most overrated players in the game are bad command/high fastball pitching prospects who rack up strikeouts by pitching out of the zone in the minors. Bauer, Archie Bradley, lots of guys fit this mold, and get a lot of hype because of velo and K numbers, but if you want to succeed in the majors, you have to throw strikes. Sometimes they learn, but it’s not as often as people think.

12:09
Comment From Matt
Is there any difference between a strikeout swinging and a strikeout looking? I know that it seems like there shouldn’t be, but I was curious to know if one is better/worse than the other.

12:09
Dave Cameron: Swinging strikeouts are more predictive, for both the batter and the pitcher, going forward. Called strikeouts are mostly a function of randomness.

FanGraphs After Dark Chat – 4/29/14

5:44
Paul Swydan: Hi everybody! Jeff and I will be here at 9 pm ET to nerd it up and/or down with you. In the meantime, please enjoy this wide array of polls. And by wide array, I mean four polls that cover two topics.

See you soon!

9:00
Paul Swydan: OK, let’s light this candle!

9:01
Comment From Evil Fredi Gonzalez
Looks like we’re going against one of the best pitchers in baseball tonight. Sounds like the time to throw out my backups who are all far worse both offensively AND defensively. They’ll never see it coming! MUAHAHAHAHAHA!

9:01
Paul Swydan: Mawahahahahahaha!

9:01
Comment From Shoeless Joe Jackson
Any chance Pete Rose is admitted to the HOF posthumously?

9:01
Paul Swydan: I suppose there’s always a chance, though I’m not holding my breath.

Jeff Sullivan FanGraphs Chat — 4/29/14

9:07
Jeff Sullivan: Hey guys. I’m pretty badly under the weather, so I’m probably not going to be on the ball with regard to a lot of baseball questions.

9:07
Jeff Sullivan: So let’s deal with some baseball questions.

9:07
Comment From Jeff
83-79 a plausible record for the Mets?

9:08
Jeff Sullivan: Unlikely but plausible, especially if they start to get more aggressive with promotions later on

9:08
Comment From TKDC
Over/Under 25 strikeouts in Braves/Marlins game tonight?

9:08
Jeff Sullivan: I’m going to be a lil bitch and say under
