Contract Crowdsourcing 2013-14: A.J. Pierzynski
Free agency begins five days after the end of the World Series. As in other recent offseasons, FanGraphs is once again facilitating this offseason a contract-crowdsourcing project, the idea being to harness the wisdom of the crowds to the end of better understanding the 2013-14 free-agent market.
Note that, this year, in addition to asking readers to estimate the years/dollars each free agent is likely to receive, FanGraphs is also requesting that readers make note of how much they’d pay each free agent were they, themselves, actual GMs.

*That is, a roughly average number of plate appearances for a starting catcher.

How much should the player being a d-bag factor into this?
In past years i would have agreed, but now that he plays for mine, im saying the “attributes that make him a d-bag” are worth another 2 mill per
I don’t see him doing better than year to year at this point. I’d guess that he’ll end up with a similar contract to last year. I’d be willing to go one year at $5-$6 million. He’s worth having because he is a decent enough starting catcher, but I also feel like he could be the type of guy that would fall off a cliff, so I wouldn’t want to tie up too much money in him.
Not much supply (McCann, Salty, AJP and ? Shinnosuke Abe maybe?) and a lot of demand (Boston, Yankees, Jays, Texas among the high budget teams at least) for catchers who can hit this year, and so I expect some major overpayment. I say 2 years for a whopping total of $20M.
