John: Who wins the Indians’ CF job out of Spring Training? Is this individual worthy of a spot in mixed leagues? AL-only? Nothing?

Eno Sarris: You know who I think is going to win the job? Tyler Naquin, that’s who.

Eno Sarris: As for his value… I think he could maybe .260/.320/.380 with some steals, which is AL-only type value.

Mike: Should I take Scherzer over Betts and Abreu in the second round of my fantasy draft? Also, would you take Arenado over Correa and Rizzo?

Eno Sarris: God I love Scherzer. I’d take him over Abreu, maybe, but I didn’t in TOUT, and I wouldn’t over Betts. I’d rather see what pitcher I can take in the third. Rizzo over both, but Correa over Arenado okay.

Wayne: I’m curious why people aren’t higher on McCullers this year. K/9 was over 9 last year and is projected to be this season. He threw 158 innings last year, so I doubt there’s an innings cap. Good team, should compete all year. What am I missing?

Eno Sarris: I think people are still nervous about that changeup, and he can’t command it. But. It has good shape and he is the business.

Pinky: Are Berrios and Snell worthy of a roster spot in my AL-only keeper league? My auction is this weekend and I’m thinking of targeting them, but I’m worried that I might be tying up a roster spot half the season waiting on them to get called up. Do I bite the bullet or wait until May and pluck them through free agency then?

Eno Sarris: Berrios more than Snell. Tampa takes its time.

Ethan: Heading to Bradenton next week and looking for some beer and food recs. Any ideas from you or fellow chatters will be greatly appreciated. Already have Cigar City on the radar.

Eno Sarris: All I got is Funky Buddha and I’m not great about south Florida geography, it may be far. But they are also good.

Joe: So how do you get into beer trading? I don’t really know anything about it, other than that I want beer that I can’t usually get.

Eno Sarris: I set up trades on the BeerGraphs Friday chat, but there’s a Beer Exchange site too that works for people. We have a post about how to pack and pick your trade partner over there too. It’s a bit expensive, but it’s really fun to get great beer from another part of the country.

Jack: I was so hot on Alex Wood last year. For two years he looked like a sex stud in the making. – what happened – any chance he can get it back

Eno Sarris: Apparently he spent the offseason getting his old arm slot back, so I actually have hope. Grandal will also help him a ton.

Bryan: Are there any reliable sources for spring training velocity charts?

Eno Sarris: Beat writers, mostly.

Brian: Samardzija seems to be a popular bounce back candidate. Are you on board with that? I’m terrified that the Ks disappeared last year.

Eno Sarris: Too many cutters. I think he’ll get em back. Swinging strike rate was down, but not out.

Jake M: Do you think Sale, Quintana, and Rodon have a a chance to be the best 1-2-3 in baseball within three years or so?

Eno Sarris: Yes. Yes. Rodon’s change looks good, it’s a bit like McCullers in that he can’t command it awesome yet. But a little tweak and he can be a 1, meaning they have a 1’s 1, a 1, and one of the more solid 2s.

JC: Any new info on Tanaka? Do you think he’ll make his 25 starts in 2016?

Eno Sarris: I just think there are plenty of UCLs that look like his, and he’ll be managed on his way to 150+ innings.

Ricky Vaughn: I can’t believe I’m asking this, but anything to get excited about with Uribe in Cleveland? Should I be cringing if he ends up as my starting 3B in AL-only?

Eno Sarris: I have him pegged at exactly a dollar in those leagues, which is hard to do. But that’s on depth chart PA, which I think he could actually surpass. The depth chart has to hedge to get Urshela and others in.

David: Petriello’s piece on the future of the pitching rotation was really interesting. At what point do you think teams may start using their pitching staff more like teams do in the playoffs? Eno Sarris: The Rays are doing this right now. The Cubs. It’s happening.

Orlando: Is Conforto going to play every day to open the year?

Eno Sarris: No, which makes him less of a sleeper than people want him to be, but I think he can still manage around 450-500 PA.

Billy Beane: Oakland seems to have a few fantasy randoms that I can’t quite project in terms of value. Who do you fancy most from guys like Valencia, Alonso, Lowrie and Coghlan?

Eno Sarris: Coghlan. Worried that Valencia becomes a vLHP platoon. Lowrie super util is interesting, I think he’ll add a lot of eligibilities.

Don: Keep forever no cost, extra cats h, bb, ops, tb, xbh, Yelich or Schwarber?

Eno Sarris: Schwarber for this year’s catcher goodness and chance he keeps that eligiblity.

Todd: Dellin Betances went for $7 in AL-LABR. Do you see that as an underpay, overpay or right at value? I can’t help but compare him to some of the starters that went for $12-$15 and think he’s a steal…

Eno Sarris: Good buy. Even with only five saves or so.

Bobby Boucher: Are we feeling bullish or bearish where Corey Dickerson is concerned?

Eno Sarris: I think he’ll start most of the time, but sometimes I see him going for the price of a starter all the time guy, and you can’t pay that price.

Scott: 15 team points league, can either keep Garrett Richards for 2 more years at $6 or Gregory Polanco for 1 more year at $1. Normally this would be a no brainer for me to take the hitter, but the extra year of Richards is enticing. Already have Keuchel and DeGrom for cheap too though. Help me out Eno!!

Larry: Who is your favorite catcher outside of the top 10 currently who has a chance to end the season in the top 5?

Johnny Bench: Other than J.R. Murphy, do you have any last-round catchers to toss out? One from each league would be greatly appreciated.

Eno Sarris: We have Grandal at ten so I guess that’s cheating. Wieters. I think Michael McKenry could do something in Texas, he’s projected to have a better bat than guys in front of him. Love Hank Conger still. Carlos Ruiz could get some playing time if they want to pump his value?

Eric: What sort of return would you need to move Mazara in ottoneu, 5×5 league? Looking for OF help

Repairman Man: How many major league starts do you see Henry Owens having this year?

Eno Sarris: 15+

Ben: It seemed like most smart people were avoiding Tanaka at all costs last year. Now that he (kind of) made it through last season, is he an OK guy to target? Is the elbow worry any less now that he made it through a season without needing surgery?

Eno Sarris: To me, it does. Wainwright made it two or three years. I know he’s a time bomb, but if he makes it through the year, he’s an ace.

Hot Shot: Assuming Mike Trout is the best fantasy player in the AL, is it fair to say that Jose Altuve is #2 with stolen bases at such a premium?

Eno Sarris: I believe that’s what my numbers said, yes.

George: The most popular bounceback candidates seem to be VMart and Carlos Santana? Do you think injuries and age will limit their upside this year, or, do they have one more good year left in the tank??

Eno Sarris: Carlos more because he’s younger.

George Springer: I am going to finish as the top overall fantasy player.

Eno Sarris: Not impossible.

Dusty: Brian McCann will be solid this season. 25 HR, around 80 RBI. Low average. Do you see the same numbers ?

Eno Sarris: Yup.

Ryker: Do you see the A’s dealing Josh Reddick by the deadline if they’re not likely to re-sign him?

Eno Sarris: I think A’s will be better than people think, but if they not, yes.

Eno Sarris: Giving him some credit for coming to baseball late, lamenting the White Sox development system for producing bad plate discipline, still hoping athleticism takes him past those flaws, fairly hopeful for him. Have actually talked about him like four times in the last two days. Rollins might start 75% of the year though.

Riley: Lots of debate on the value of Billy Hamilton going into this year. Seems like it will be a make or break season–do you think he manages his fly balls enough to steal 100 bags, or has the ship passed on hoping he’ll be a top fantasy asset?

Eno Sarris: Ship has not sailed. Poop/potty year. I can’t say that any of us know exactly what will happen.

Eno Sarris: I like Joc but his spring stance is super weird. I’m a little nervous. He has the tools but hasn’t yet made the Big Adjustment.

Frankie: Hey Eno, I saw the results of the Mixed Tout Draft. You were debating with Rizzo or Stanton as your first pick at the 5 spot. What made you go with Rizzo? I have 5th pick too, would you be willing to draft Rizzo and then if E5 or Abreu are there in the second round would you ever draft 2 first basemen in the first two rounds?

Eno Sarris: I decided that, yes, I would draft a second first baseman in the second round if he was there. Maybe I should have gotten a shortstop earlier, wanted Brad Miller one round, but Cesar Hernandez as my 2B feels just fine.

Cam: Eno, new to the world of sours. There is limited availability here in Toronto, so I have only tried a Belgian with low ABV (loved) and a German with high ABV (hated). Is this a matter of personal taste or is there a sweet spot for sours? Any recommendations that might be readily available in NY State?

Eno Sarris: Try some Allagash ones, they more Belgian than German. If you can pony up the Goose Island sisters (Juliette, Halia) are really great.

Dave: Any indication that DSalazar’s breaking pitch is improving?

Eno Sarris: That curve was actually pretty good.

Second Baseman: How do you navigate between guys like Kinsler, Pedroia and Kipnis? Any particular one stand out, or is it more based on cost?

Eno Sarris: The healthier guys are a tier above, and I prefer Odor to the lot, but K and K are roughly equivalent.

Micah Owings: It’s too early to worry about Hyun Soo Kim losing his job, right?

Eno Sarris: No. He’s the worst of the three Koreans to come over.

Tony: Chris Bassitt supposedly spent the off-season working with Sonny Gray to avoid tipping pitches from the stretch. Any real concerns? Seems like a high floor (GB, park, splits) with a decent ceiling due to stuff.

Eno Sarris: I didn’t even know that but I’m in on him because Doolittle told me that they told him to let his fastball eat instead of trying for movement, and that added gas has made his plus curve work. Developing slider gives him floor even if bad change doesn’t improve.

MJS: Is it a problem that almost everyone has Raisel Iglesias as a breakout candidate? Almost seems too obvious.

Eno Sarris: He’s being taken as a sure thing now, and so I have very few shares.

Josh: Eno what is the longest beer release line you have stood in? I once stood in the “Dinner” release line from Maine Beer Co. and I didn’t realize what I got myself into.

Eno Sarris: Four hours for Pliny the Younger and that’s my max. Not doing it again for that beer, either, although line wasn’t unfun.

Art Vandelay: Am I crazy to think that Semien could be a top ~7 shortstop this year?

Eno Sarris: Not at all. He’s in my top ten and that’s based mostly on projections. If he’s the late season guy (and that would line up with this minor league numbers), then he’s better than back end top ten.

Josh: Who opens as closer for the Crew? Do you see Knebel getting the gig at some point this year?

Eno Sarris: Talked to a pitcher that is sure that front offices are manipulating relievers saves totals to keep their costs down. Will Smith is more expensive, so he gets the saves. JJ second in line.

natsfan: Would you go after both Miller and Betances like the LABR guy did at the cost oif the extyra pitching spot? I think it’s a good strategy for K’s alone

Eno Sarris: I considered it. The only thing is, he paid for a top shelf closer and might only get 10-15 saves tops. Still, the rest will be so great.

Joe: Does the Cubs going to a hybrid pitching rotation full of super utility pitchers like Cahill, Warren and Richard neutralize the threat that the backend of their bullpen might be somewhat thin?

Great teams have been undone by bad bullpens and I was surprised the Cubs made no attempt to shore up the bullpen behind Rondon.

Eno Sarris: Bullpens are found. I think they’ll find a guy this spring or trade for a guy.

G: Noticed you’ve partaken in some Treehouse stuff lately. Where do Julius, King Julius, et al rank for you in the pantheon of beer?

Eno Sarris: One and two.

carl: I’ve read speculation that Altherr’s injury might screw him up, cause when he gets back, there might not be an opening. It seems to me that Philly isn’t so loaded with talent that a young guy with at least some isn’t going to get just shuffled to the bench – he’ll play or he’ll get traded. Do you agree?

Eno Sarris: He’ll get some run. Bad teams have to give guys like him a chance.

Eno Sarris:

Josh: Do you like Adam Conley as much as I do? Chances he sees 20+ starts?

Eno Sarris: I do. And I’m glad they didn’t get a fifth starter. I think he will break camp in that rotation.

Cousin Mose: What/who in AZ is holding back Jake Lamb from 600 PA this year? Am I totally irrational in saying 20 HR is a reasonable outcome?

Eno Sarris: I’m all over him. Well, not literally, that would be uncomfortable for both of us.

Job: Have you soured on Rubby De La Rosa? You started hot on him this offseason but haven’t heard his name in a while. I think you might have even said he could have been this season’s deGrom. If you no longer feel that way, who would be your new choice?

Eno Sarris: He’s deGrom in that he’s changed his slider movement and has the velocity and tools to succeed, but he’s not anywhere close to deG when it comes to command, and that’s the missing ingredient. I’ll take him for a buck or two because the pieces are there.

Tigger: Does Lewin Brinson get called up and make an impact by the end of the season?

Eno Sarris: September maybe but no. Mazara ahead of him and they need to take their time to make sure he doesn’t turn into Gallo at the plate.

Ritt Momney: The better question is if MLB would allow synthetic UCLs? Gets into a PED gray area if you ask me.

Eno Sarris: Robo teams. The elbow guards and some of the equipment seem like a gateway drug, but I doubt it happens in our lifetime because people won’t like it.

Eno Sarris: I like him a fair amount but more in keeper leagues than redrafts.

natsfan: Pondering trading $16 Pillar for $13 Schoop. Good move or bonehead?

Eno Sarris: I like it actually.

Mike: How do you feel about Devon Travis this year. Hot start then was hurt last year, now will be out until probably June – will he be worth the wait in a keeper league?

Eno Sarris: That type of injury might actually sap his power. I really like him, but not this year.

Troy: Care to give us the Eno two cents on Trevor Story?

Eno Sarris: Bad BA but plenty of opportunity. Worthy bench pick in all leagues.

Sid: Heard one analyst call Patrick Corbin his 2016 Dallas Keuchel. Thoughts on that?

Eno Sarris: Makes no sense. We all know Patrick Corbin is good and has been good. None of their pitches are similar, nor are their approaches. I think Corbin is a bit undervalued because people too worried about innings.

Erik: It seems that most young pitchers with ace potential are stuff-first, not command-first. Is it just too hard to forecast the types of improvements a young pitcher would need to make to become the next Greg Maddux?

Eno Sarris: Command is perhaps the hardest thing to nail down and believe in. Aaron Nola has great command. How far you going to push his projections?

Matt Damon: MATT. DAMON.

Fernando: Dodgers rotation is VOLATILE. Does Jose De Leon get the call this season?

Eno Sarris: At some point.

Hank: I’m fully on the Addison Russell train. But, if both Addison Russell and Francisco Lindor are on the board, do you take Russell….because I think I would.

Eno Sarris: Just had this discussion. AS much as I love Addison and fear that Lindor is a bit over-rated, you have to take Lindor in that situation. He’s not a .080 ISO empty bat. He’ll hit 8-10 homers and show a .120+ ISO. Plus speed and OBP. I’ll take that.

Aaron: Sean Manaea has me a bit excited. Does Manaea get Eno excited? Baseball related question, just in case…

Eno Sarris: Yes, but even in good appearance with three straight changeups for a K, batters spent the second inning laying off everything and the Bad Manaea was trying to bubble into the top. Not great command, mechanics a bit iffy. But everything else is there.

Eno Sarris: Depth chart changes will change the projections, but I don’t know if they re-run the whole thing or anything.

But: Okay so Corbin and Keuchel aren’t the same pitchers, BUT I think what the person was asking, was if a good pitcher can become a great pitcher? Maybe i’m wrong but was intrigued by his question. Who can take that step to Keuchel like levels this season? Is it Corbin?

Eno Sarris: The problem with these questions is that you can’t even really go back and see the prescription for Keuchel from 14 to 15. Sure, 13 to 14 he ditched a pitch, grabbed a new one. Last year… he just threw fewer pitches in the zone and people whiffed more. This is why I grab quantity at the back end of the ace pool. one of those guys will win a Cy. And then I grab quantity in the five tier, too. One of those guys will be 14 Keuchel.
