Eno Sarris Baseball Chat — 3/10/16

11:30
Eno Sarris: I’ll be here shortly so just chill

12:00
Eno Sarris: I have no pants on.

12:01
John: Who wins the Indians’ CF job out of Spring Training? Is this individual worthy of a spot in mixed leagues? AL-only? Nothing?

12:01
Eno Sarris: You know who I think is going to win the job? Tyler Naquin, that’s who.

12:02
Eno Sarris: As for his value… I think he could maybe .260/.320/.380 with some steals, which is AL-only type value.

12:02
Mike: Should I take Scherzer over Betts and Abreu in the second round of my fantasy draft? Also, would you take Arenado over Correa and Rizzo?

12:03
Eno Sarris: God I love Scherzer. I’d take him over Abreu, maybe, but I didn’t in TOUT, and I wouldn’t over Betts. I’d rather see what pitcher I can take in the third. Rizzo over both, but Correa over Arenado okay.

12:03
Wayne: I’m curious why people aren’t higher on McCullers this year. K/9 was over 9 last year and is projected to be this season. He threw 158 innings last year, so I doubt there’s an innings cap. Good team, should compete all year. What am I missing?

12:03
Eno Sarris: I think people are still nervous about that changeup, and he can’t command it. But. It has good shape and he is the business.

12:03
Pinky: Are Berrios and Snell worthy of a roster spot in my AL-only keeper league? My auction is this weekend and I’m thinking of targeting them, but I’m worried that I might be tying up a roster spot half the season waiting on them to get called up. Do I bite the bullet or wait until May and pluck them through free agency then?

12:03
Eno Sarris: Berrios more than Snell. Tampa takes its time.

12:04
Ethan: Heading to Bradenton next week and looking for some beer and food recs. Any ideas from you or fellow chatters will be greatly appreciated. Already have Cigar City on the radar.

12:04
Eno Sarris: All I got is Funky Buddha and I’m not great about south Florida geography, it may be far. But they are also good.

12:04
Eno Sarris: (SEE I USED “ARE” I CAN USE VERBS)

12:05
Joe: So how do you get into beer trading? I don’t really know anything about it, other than that I want beer that I can’t usually get.

12:06
Eno Sarris: I set up trades on the BeerGraphs Friday chat, but there’s a Beer Exchange site too that works for people. We have a post about how to pack and pick your trade partner over there too. It’s a bit expensive, but it’s really fun to get great beer from another part of the country.

12:06
Jack: I was so hot on Alex Wood last year. For two years he looked like a sex stud in the making. – what happened – any chance he can get it back

12:06
Eno Sarris: Apparently he spent the offseason getting his old arm slot back, so I actually have hope. Grandal will also help him a ton.

12:06
Bryan: Are there any reliable sources for spring training velocity charts?

12:06
Eno Sarris: Beat writers, mostly.

12:06
Brian: Samardzija seems to be a popular bounce back candidate. Are you on board with that? I’m terrified that the Ks disappeared last year.

12:07
Eno Sarris: Too many cutters. I think he’ll get em back. Swinging strike rate was down, but not out.

12:07
Jake M: Do you think Sale, Quintana, and Rodon have a a chance to be the best 1-2-3 in baseball within three years or so?

12:07
Eno Sarris: Yes. Yes. Rodon’s change looks good, it’s a bit like McCullers in that he can’t command it awesome yet. But a little tweak and he can be a 1, meaning they have a 1’s 1, a 1, and one of the more solid 2s.

12:08
j6takish: Cistulli, Cistulli, He’s our man if he can’

12:08
Bork: Next time my SO is angry at me I’ll use the RAJ defense. WHY YES I DO KNOW BETTER BUT GUESS WHAT, YOU DIDNT KNOW THAT SO I HAVE THE ADVANTAGE.

12:08
Austin Meadow’s Ass: Oww, my face!!!

12:08
Eno Sarris: Damn guys. Pretty early for the good stuff.

12:09
JC: Any new info on Tanaka? Do you think he’ll make his 25 starts in 2016?

12:09
Eno Sarris: I just think there are plenty of UCLs that look like his, and he’ll be managed on his way to 150+ innings.

12:09
Ricky Vaughn: I can’t believe I’m asking this, but anything to get excited about with Uribe in Cleveland? Should I be cringing if he ends up as my starting 3B in AL-only?

12:10
Eno Sarris: I have him pegged at exactly a dollar in those leagues, which is hard to do. But that’s on depth chart PA, which I think he could actually surpass. The depth chart has to hedge to get Urshela and others in.

12:10
David: Petriello’s piece on the future of the pitching rotation was really interesting. At what point do you think teams may start using their pitching staff more like teams do in the playoffs? Also, which team do you see blazing the trail here? http://m.mlb.com/news/article/157383440/starting-pitchers-should-throw-fewer-innings

12:10
Eno Sarris: The Rays are doing this right now. The Cubs. It’s happening.

12:10
Orlando: Is Conforto going to play every day to open the year?

12:10
Eno Sarris: No, which makes him less of a sleeper than people want him to be, but I think he can still manage around 450-500 PA.

12:10
Billy Beane: Oakland seems to have a few fantasy randoms that I can’t quite project in terms of value. Who do you fancy most from guys like Valencia, Alonso, Lowrie and Coghlan?

12:11
Eno Sarris: Coghlan. Worried that Valencia becomes a vLHP platoon. Lowrie super util is interesting, I think he’ll add a lot of eligibilities.

12:11
Don: Keep forever no cost, extra cats h, bb, ops, tb, xbh, Yelich or Schwarber?

12:11
Eno Sarris: Schwarber for this year’s catcher goodness and chance he keeps that eligiblity.

12:11
Todd: Dellin Betances went for $7 in AL-LABR. Do you see that as an underpay, overpay or right at value? I can’t help but compare him to some of the starters that went for $12-$15 and think he’s a steal…

12:12
Eno Sarris: Good buy. Even with only five saves or so.

12:12
Bobby Boucher: Are we feeling bullish or bearish where Corey Dickerson is concerned?

12:12
Eno Sarris: I think he’ll start most of the time, but sometimes I see him going for the price of a starter all the time guy, and you can’t pay that price.

12:12
Scott: 15 team points league, can either keep Garrett Richards for 2 more years at $6 or Gregory Polanco for 1 more year at $1. Normally this would be a no brainer for me to take the hitter, but the extra year of Richards is enticing. Already have Keuchel and DeGrom for cheap too though. Help me out Eno!!

12:12
Eno Sarris: GP. You have pitchers.

12:12
Larry: Who is your favorite catcher outside of the top 10 currently who has a chance to end the season in the top 5?

12:12
Johnny Bench: Other than J.R. Murphy, do you have any last-round catchers to toss out? One from each league would be greatly appreciated.

12:14
Eno Sarris: We have Grandal at ten so I guess that’s cheating. Wieters. I think Michael McKenry could do something in Texas, he’s projected to have a better bat than guys in front of him. Love Hank Conger still. Carlos Ruiz could get some playing time if they want to pump his value?

12:14
Eric: What sort of return would you need to move Mazara in ottoneu, 5×5 league? Looking for OF help

12:14
Eno Sarris: Stud at good price.

12:14
Repairman Man: How many major league starts do you see Henry Owens having this year?

12:14
Eno Sarris: 15+

12:15
Ben: It seemed like most smart people were avoiding Tanaka at all costs last year. Now that he (kind of) made it through last season, is he an OK guy to target? Is the elbow worry any less now that he made it through a season without needing surgery?

12:15
Eno Sarris: To me, it does. Wainwright made it two or three years. I know he’s a time bomb, but if he makes it through the year, he’s an ace.

12:15
Hot Shot: Assuming Mike Trout is the best fantasy player in the AL, is it fair to say that Jose Altuve is #2 with stolen bases at such a premium?

12:15
Eno Sarris: I believe that’s what my numbers said, yes.

12:16
George: The most popular bounceback candidates seem to be VMart and Carlos Santana? Do you think injuries and age will limit their upside this year, or, do they have one more good year left in the tank??

12:16
Eno Sarris: Carlos more because he’s younger.

12:16
George Springer: I am going to finish as the top overall fantasy player.

12:16
Eno Sarris: Not impossible.

12:16
Dusty: Brian McCann will be solid this season. 25 HR, around 80 RBI. Low average. Do you see the same numbers ?

12:16
Eno Sarris: Yup.

12:16
Ryker: Do you see the A’s dealing Josh Reddick by the deadline if they’re not likely to re-sign him?

12:16
Eno Sarris: I think A’s will be better than people think, but if they not, yes.

12:16
The Dude of NY: Derek Jeter’s defense is like the Star Wars prequels: lots of spinning and objectively terrible.

12:16
Bork: On a scale of Buffy the Vampire Slayer to the Blade trilogy, how slayed is Jered Weaver by Jeff Sullivan?

12:17
Art Vandelay: Check out “Nice Dreams” if you’ve never heard of Son Little.

12:17
Eno Sarris: WE GRANTLAND WE COMBINE CULTURE AND SPORT

12:17
greg: how many HRs for Jonathan Schoop in 2016?

12:17
Eno Sarris: 22.5

12:17
Nick: Who is the first impact pitching prospect to get called up this year?

12:17
Eno Sarris: Berrios

12:18
Johnny5Alive: You on eikhoff wagon, right? $6 in nl only with keeping? Also, $270 cap, 13 team league, would you go into the auction with a $36 madbum?

12:18
Eno Sarris: yes and yes

12:18
Miketron: Who are you more concerned about their bad spring so far, Doolittle or Giles?

12:18
Eno Sarris: Doolittle told me he was 93+ in last outing and he’s never 93+ at this point. Then someone else told me he was 91-92. I’m only as concerned as I would have been three weeks ago.

12:18
Stinger: Does Jonathan Villar intrigue you at all? Career best in contact % and k % last year, still fast, only 24…

12:19
Eno Sarris: And a wide open infield. More in NL-O but yes.

12:19
Bruce: How did you like AZ Wilderness?

12:19
Eno Sarris: Some beers disappointed me. But the highlights — a brett mosaic wheat IPA (suit-n-tiepa) and a dark blackberry sour — were good enough to go toe to toe with anyone’s best.

12:20
Jon: How many years until we are able to 3D-print plastic, indestructible UCL’s, making Tommy John surgeries a one-time, permanent fix for ligament tears and saving baseball from its most pervasive, career-ending injury?

12:20
Eno Sarris: I saw a 3-d printed car the other day.

12:20
Eno Sarris:

12:21
Bill: Hi Eno. What do you think of Joe Ross. Sure shot to start all season long for the Nats or oncle Dusty will use Arroyo and/or Roark in front ?

12:21
Eno Sarris: Love. Joe. Ross. Has same numbers as brother.

12:21
Stephen: Just chill? Like, Eno and Chill?

12:21
Eno Sarris: Well if your partner is into it, why not.

12:22
David: Rank from most likely to least likely: Carl Crawford traded, released, bench player, becomes the CC from Tampa

12:22
Eno Sarris: bench player, traded, released, Tampa.

12:22
Jurisckson Profar: Injuries aside, what is the knock on me? I never had prodigious power to start off with. Why am I not a top prospect anymore?

12:22
Eno Sarris: Recency bias? Also, though, that was a heck of an injury thing.

12:22
Stephen: Bubba Starling hit inside-the-park homerun in his first at bat this week. I expect MVP this year, no?

12:22
Eno Sarris: no.

12:22
Craig in Chicago: What are people in the industry saying about Tim Anderson?

12:23
Eno Sarris: Giving him some credit for coming to baseball late, lamenting the White Sox development system for producing bad plate discipline, still hoping athleticism takes him past those flaws, fairly hopeful for him. Have actually talked about him like four times in the last two days. Rollins might start 75% of the year though.

12:23
Riley: Lots of debate on the value of Billy Hamilton going into this year. Seems like it will be a make or break season–do you think he manages his fly balls enough to steal 100 bags, or has the ship passed on hoping he’ll be a top fantasy asset?

12:24
Eno Sarris: Ship has not sailed. Poop/potty year. I can’t say that any of us know exactly what will happen.

12:24
Bruce: I cant go on without knowing this: Is Andrew Heaney pronounced HEENY, or HANEY?

12:24
Eno Sarris: You asking the wrong guy but I think latter.

12:24
Paul: so that’s what a beer and a baseball conversation can lead to

12:24
Eno Sarris: No pants? Sometimes, I guess, or the next day at least.

12:25
OnSight: Is the difference between Sano and Pederson really worth 100+ picks? Seems like recency bias

12:25
Eno Sarris: I like Joc but his spring stance is super weird. I’m a little nervous. He has the tools but hasn’t yet made the Big Adjustment.

12:25
Frankie: Hey Eno, I saw the results of the Mixed Tout Draft. You were debating with Rizzo or Stanton as your first pick at the 5 spot. What made you go with Rizzo? I have 5th pick too, would you be willing to draft Rizzo and then if E5 or Abreu are there in the second round would you ever draft 2 first basemen in the first two rounds?

12:26
Eno Sarris: I decided that, yes, I would draft a second first baseman in the second round if he was there. Maybe I should have gotten a shortstop earlier, wanted Brad Miller one round, but Cesar Hernandez as my 2B feels just fine.

12:26
Eno’s Crushes: 2015 was to DeSclafani and Soler what 2016 is to…….

(not talking about what eventually happened)

12:27
Eno Sarris: Talked to DeSclafani again and he agreed that he felt really good late last year. The curve was “spinning well” and he now has a plan for how to use the change, he’s not throwing it away. Add good fastball command, decent velocity, plus slider…

12:27
Gary: Hey Eno! I have no pants on either. Small world. So my league is moving from a normal h2h league to a OBP Roto league. Do you have any sort of articles on your approach to a Roto league? Any quick advice you could give out?

12:28
Eno Sarris: Not much different. Use the auction calculator and listen to the OBP podcast and you be fine.

12:28
pirates hurdles: Where are you on Aaron Judge? So much to like, but also a bunch of red flags.

12:28
Eno Sarris: Not every Huge Man develops Huge Power.

12:29
Nelson: Trivia for any chat hosts you may be Jamaican: Led Zepplins most Reggae sounding song is called D’yer Maker, which makes no sense till you pronounce it Jermaka. Boom- mind blown!

12:29
Eno Sarris: wut.

12:30
Eno Sarris:

12:30
Eno Sarris: I love it.

12:30
abestinkin: better 2016: garrett richards or strasburg?

12:31
Eno Sarris: Strasburg. We have one year with Richards showing the K rate we think he can show.

12:31
Paul: better bagel: poppy or sesame? And no, you cant answer with everything.

12:31
Eno Sarris: Value with respect to collective assumptions goes to poppy.

12:31
TeadyHopper: What are the best session IPAs or low ABV IPAs available in the northeast? I need morning beers for my bachelor party weekend in Maine at the end of next month.

12:32
Eno Sarris: You can still find Easy Jack, which is a super easy beer to fall back on. But if you can find Carton’s Boat Beer, that’s… uh… perfect for your situation.

12:33
Art Vandelay: What player would need to come out in favor of batflips for the old guard to be satisfied? David Wright?

12:33
Eno Sarris: Brian McCann.

12:33
Gandalf: Based on your conversations with Driveline which pitcher is likeliest blow out an elbow before June 2016?

12:33
Eno Sarris: GIVE ME TRACKMAN SPIN RATES.

12:33
Bork: Give us your ~hot hot~ take on Bryce’s comments regarding destroying the silly unwritten rules of baseballs.

12:33
Eno Sarris: Sorry I think he’s right, no hot takery here.

12:34
Cam: Eno, new to the world of sours. There is limited availability here in Toronto, so I have only tried a Belgian with low ABV (loved) and a German with high ABV (hated). Is this a matter of personal taste or is there a sweet spot for sours? Any recommendations that might be readily available in NY State?

12:34
Eno Sarris: Try some Allagash ones, they more Belgian than German. If you can pony up the Goose Island sisters (Juliette, Halia) are really great.

12:34
Dave: Any indication that DSalazar’s breaking pitch is improving?

12:34
Eno Sarris: That curve was actually pretty good.

12:35
Merv Throneberry: Hallo Eno…Suarez over KMarte? Actually I can keep both at $4 ($260 league 18 deep league). Berrios up before Giolito, yes?

12:35
Eno Sarris: Actually I kind of like keeping both. They both decent sleepers, and if one goes bust, you have the other.

12:35
natsfan: Your thoughts please on Great Lakes Brewing from Cleveland? Favorites?

12:35
Eno Sarris: The Edmund Fitzgerald!

12:35
Dan: I’m trying to get into as many leagues as possible, but I don’t know how many is too many. No kids, regular job. How many leagues should I play in, Eno?

12:36
Eno Sarris: I had 15 for a bit. Took an hour to set lineups every day.

12:36
LeanMeanGene: im being offered joc pederson and t. bauer for corey seager, y/n?

12:36
Eno Sarris: No.

12:36
Micah Owings: Who’s the best bet as a second catcher: Castillo, Cervelli, Chirinos, Hundley

12:36
Eno Sarris: Hundley at least good half the time.

12:36
Maxamuz: Cheap higk K9 holds guys…go.

12:37
Eno Sarris: Tony Zych, Liam Hendriks, Keone Kela, Hunter Strickland.

12:37
Rick: I asked last week how you ranked four Sculpins. I just gotten Pineapple but hadn’t tried it yet. My rank best to worst: Regular/Grapefruit (very close), Habanero, Pineapple.

12:37
Eno Sarris: boooooooooo. I put Pineapple up front because That Smell and then the rest is the same, I guess.

12:38
Second Baseman: How do you navigate between guys like Kinsler, Pedroia and Kipnis? Any particular one stand out, or is it more based on cost?

12:38
Eno Sarris: The healthier guys are a tier above, and I prefer Odor to the lot, but K and K are roughly equivalent.

12:39
Micah Owings: It’s too early to worry about Hyun Soo Kim losing his job, right?

12:39
Eno Sarris: No. He’s the worst of the three Koreans to come over.

12:39
Tony: Chris Bassitt supposedly spent the off-season working with Sonny Gray to avoid tipping pitches from the stretch. Any real concerns? Seems like a high floor (GB, park, splits) with a decent ceiling due to stuff.

12:40
Eno Sarris: I didn’t even know that but I’m in on him because Doolittle told me that they told him to let his fastball eat instead of trying for movement, and that added gas has made his plus curve work. Developing slider gives him floor even if bad change doesn’t improve.

12:40
MJS: Is it a problem that almost everyone has Raisel Iglesias as a breakout candidate? Almost seems too obvious.

12:40
Eno Sarris: He’s being taken as a sure thing now, and so I have very few shares.

12:40
Josh: Eno what is the longest beer release line you have stood in? I once stood in the “Dinner” release line from Maine Beer Co. and I didn’t realize what I got myself into.

12:41
Eno Sarris: Four hours for Pliny the Younger and that’s my max. Not doing it again for that beer, either, although line wasn’t unfun.

12:41
guest guest guest: was that joc pederson homering with a shortened leg kick yesterday??????

12:41
Eno Sarris: So weird looking.

12:41
Josh: What do you expect from Maeda this year?

12:41
Eno Sarris: Meh, but National League Meh.

12:41
Guest: Eovaldi generate any excitement for you in 2016?

12:41
Eno Sarris: If he stays in one piece and throws the splitter 30% of the time again, yes.

12:41
Eric: Are you still down on Giolito?

12:41
Eno Sarris: I’m only down relative to the hype. Plus plus fastball, plus curve, we’ll see about the change.

12:42
Mark: An ode to Max Scherzer:
The Scherzerker is just so obscene
Likes evil people, you know what I mean
He takes your soul and then just rips you apart
He’ll steal your heart

12:42
Bork: If the Cubs somehow crash and burn during the first half of the season, do you think we’ll see our first live goat sacrifice in MLB history?

12:42
Brick Tamland: No pants? Eno, I DONT HAVE ANY LEGS!!!!

12:42
Eno Sarris: I love us.

12:42
Art Vandelay: Am I crazy to think that Semien could be a top ~7 shortstop this year?

12:43
Eno Sarris: Not at all. He’s in my top ten and that’s based mostly on projections. If he’s the late season guy (and that would line up with this minor league numbers), then he’s better than back end top ten.

12:43
Josh: Who opens as closer for the Crew? Do you see Knebel getting the gig at some point this year?

12:44
Eno Sarris: Talked to a pitcher that is sure that front offices are manipulating relievers saves totals to keep their costs down. Will Smith is more expensive, so he gets the saves. JJ second in line.

12:45
natsfan: Would you go after both Miller and Betances like the LABR guy did at the cost oif the extyra pitching spot? I think it’s a good strategy for K’s alone

12:45
Eno Sarris: I considered it. The only thing is, he paid for a top shelf closer and might only get 10-15 saves tops. Still, the rest will be so great.

12:45
Joe: Does the Cubs going to a hybrid pitching rotation full of super utility pitchers like Cahill, Warren and Richard neutralize the threat that the backend of their bullpen might be somewhat thin?

Great teams have been undone by bad bullpens and I was surprised the Cubs made no attempt to shore up the bullpen behind Rondon.

12:45
Eno Sarris: Bullpens are found. I think they’ll find a guy this spring or trade for a guy.

12:45
G: Noticed you’ve partaken in some Treehouse stuff lately. Where do Julius, King Julius, et al rank for you in the pantheon of beer?

12:46
Eno Sarris: One and two.

12:46
carl: I’ve read speculation that Altherr’s injury might screw him up, cause when he gets back, there might not be an opening. It seems to me that Philly isn’t so loaded with talent that a young guy with at least some isn’t going to get just shuffled to the bench – he’ll play or he’ll get traded. Do you agree?

12:46
Eno Sarris: He’ll get some run. Bad teams have to give guys like him a chance.

12:47
Eno Sarris:

12:47
Josh: Do you like Adam Conley as much as I do? Chances he sees 20+ starts?

12:48
Eno Sarris: I do. And I’m glad they didn’t get a fifth starter. I think he will break camp in that rotation.

12:48
Cousin Mose: What/who in AZ is holding back Jake Lamb from 600 PA this year? Am I totally irrational in saying 20 HR is a reasonable outcome?

12:48
Eno Sarris: I’m all over him. Well, not literally, that would be uncomfortable for both of us.

12:48
Cubs Fan: I don’t know how to emotionally process being a fan of the best team in baseball on paper. I’m not used to this.

12:48
biggs darklighter: I’ve taken to calling my anus my giftshcrank.

12:49
Derek: Eno I’m not going to lie to you, I’m extraordinarily hung over last night from drinking shitty beers, what’s your method to cure my “flu like symptoms”?

12:49
Eno Sarris: This interlude is sponsored by gatorade.

12:49
Job: Have you soured on Rubby De La Rosa? You started hot on him this offseason but haven’t heard his name in a while. I think you might have even said he could have been this season’s deGrom. If you no longer feel that way, who would be your new choice?

12:50
Eno Sarris: He’s deGrom in that he’s changed his slider movement and has the velocity and tools to succeed, but he’s not anywhere close to deG when it comes to command, and that’s the missing ingredient. I’ll take him for a buck or two because the pieces are there.

12:50
Tigger: Does Lewin Brinson get called up and make an impact by the end of the season?

12:51
Eno Sarris: September maybe but no. Mazara ahead of him and they need to take their time to make sure he doesn’t turn into Gallo at the plate.

12:51
Ritt Momney: The better question is if MLB would allow synthetic UCLs? Gets into a PED gray area if you ask me.

12:51
Eno Sarris: Robo teams. The elbow guards and some of the equipment seem like a gateway drug, but I doubt it happens in our lifetime because people won’t like it.

12:52
Bork: Eno and chill resulted in multiple babies. Are you sure you want that?

12:52
Eno Sarris: No! Don’t blame me! I’m just sitting here with no pants on.

12:52
Dan: Is there such a thing as a bad ball hitter? Is YO one of them?

12:52
Eno Sarris: Sure. It’s fine while they are young.

12:52
Josh: You buying Piscotty’s power?

12:52
Eno Sarris: On the 17-20 level, yes.

12:53
Matt: Keeper league have to keep one of the 3….puig, pederson, and freddie freeman

12:53
Eno Sarris: Puig. I feel pretty good about him, even if he’s like the Rubby of hitters. All the tools are there, and he’s even made big adjustments in the past.

12:54
Mr. Mister: Domingo Santana finishes as a top __ outfielder in 2016?

12:55
Eno Sarris: 40

12:55
Jill: Manuel Margot seems to be impressing in ST. But, does he impress Eno?

12:55
Eno Sarris: I like him a fair amount but more in keeper leagues than redrafts.

12:56
natsfan: Pondering trading $16 Pillar for $13 Schoop. Good move or bonehead?

12:56
Eno Sarris: I like it actually.

12:56
Mike: How do you feel about Devon Travis this year. Hot start then was hurt last year, now will be out until probably June – will he be worth the wait in a keeper league?

12:56
Eno Sarris: That type of injury might actually sap his power. I really like him, but not this year.

12:57
Troy: Care to give us the Eno two cents on Trevor Story?

12:57
Eno Sarris: Bad BA but plenty of opportunity. Worthy bench pick in all leagues.

12:57
Sid: Heard one analyst call Patrick Corbin his 2016 Dallas Keuchel. Thoughts on that?

12:58
Eno Sarris: Makes no sense. We all know Patrick Corbin is good and has been good. None of their pitches are similar, nor are their approaches. I think Corbin is a bit undervalued because people too worried about innings.

12:58
Erik: It seems that most young pitchers with ace potential are stuff-first, not command-first. Is it just too hard to forecast the types of improvements a young pitcher would need to make to become the next Greg Maddux?

12:58
Eno Sarris: Command is perhaps the hardest thing to nail down and believe in. Aaron Nola has great command. How far you going to push his projections?

12:59
Matt Damon: MATT. DAMON.

12:59
Fernando: Dodgers rotation is VOLATILE. Does Jose De Leon get the call this season?

12:59
Eno Sarris: At some point.

12:59
Hank: I’m fully on the Addison Russell train. But, if both Addison Russell and Francisco Lindor are on the board, do you take Russell….because I think I would.

1:00
Eno Sarris: Just had this discussion. AS much as I love Addison and fear that Lindor is a bit over-rated, you have to take Lindor in that situation. He’s not a .080 ISO empty bat. He’ll hit 8-10 homers and show a .120+ ISO. Plus speed and OBP. I’ll take that.

1:00
Aaron: Sean Manaea has me a bit excited. Does Manaea get Eno excited? Baseball related question, just in case…

1:01
Eno Sarris: Yes, but even in good appearance with three straight changeups for a K, batters spent the second inning laying off everything and the Bad Manaea was trying to bubble into the top. Not great command, mechanics a bit iffy. But everything else is there.

1:01
Korean Bat Flip: I like to have fun and I am NOT a douche

1:01
Eno Sarris: God I love watching NPB and KBO bat flip videos.

1:01
Eno Sarris:

1:02
Cedrick: Dumping Leonys Martin and somewhat indirectly replacing him with Ian Desmond doesn’t look like an upgrade, and could quite possibly be a downgrade, at the cost of increased salary and a first round pick. No offense to Wilhelmsen/Jones/Kivlehan, but they really don’t move the needle much.

1:02
Eno Sarris: Except DeShields is still there and so you’re really taking Desmond’s bat over Martin’s which I would do yes. And Hamels counts as part of the makeover.

1:03
About Eno: Do you watch soccer?

1:03
Eno Sarris: Once every four years, sometimes once every two years. Lame, but my life is crowded.

1:04
Broak: What? Sean Doolittle’s had a great spring so far. RYAN Doolittle is the one getting knocked around on the mound.

1:04
Eno Sarris: I don’t even look at ST results so.

1:04
Johnny5Alive: Velasquez, on the team out of spring? What do you expect?

1:05
Eno Sarris: I think he might not break camp because of Oberholtzer and the ability to manage his innings in minors. But I think he will make an impact this year.

1:05
Bork: That feeling when you realize your ludes are better than your legit baseball questions.

1:05
Miketron: How much do you tip your manservant?

1:05
Craig in Chicago: Ever jumped off the cliff at Rick’s Café? I have. 😉

1:06
Eno Sarris: Yes interlude.

1:06
Scott: I’m new to the chats and had no idea you were so into beer. If there’s anything in the Philly area (Tired Hands, Carton, Kane, etc.) you’d be interested in let me know.

1:06
Eno Sarris: TIRED HANDS YES PLEASE IN MY GULLET

1:06
gaedel: Richards hit 100 mph the other day. Does that velo gain make you excited or worried?

1:06
Eno Sarris: I’d guess he was airing it out in a two-inning appearance.

1:06
Bartwheat: Any notable St. Louis craft beers worth trying?

1:07
Eno Sarris: Schlafly and Perennial.

1:07
jason: Dark Knight $1 or Thor $1

1:07
Eno Sarris: Harvey by a nose.

1:07
gest: I’m trying to figure out Jeff Samardizja and his sudden drop in gb%. Is that something that can have a high variance year to year or do you think he is no longer a GB pitcher for some reason?

1:07
Eno Sarris: Cutter. All cutter. Too many cutters.

1:07
Josh: Are you buying or selling Hector Olivera?

1:07
Eno Sarris: Selling.

1:08
Joe: Does Kang injury mean he is locked into 3B if/when he returns? I am wondering if Jason Rogers can steal the job and push him to SS?

1:08
Eno Sarris: I think he was headed that way anyway.

1:08
Zorak: Sours in NY: Grimm is the best, Singlecut is pretty awesome as well.

1:08
Eno Sarris: Grimm, should have mentioned yes.

1:08
Joe: HR Park parks this year?

1:09
Eno Sarris: 22.6

1:09
guest guest guest: buxton’s upside is what heyward is going to do this year with the cubs right? 90 runs, 20 HR, 28 SB??

1:09
Eno Sarris: Too many stolen bases for that team.

1:09
Zach: Eno! Just turned 21. Want to get into beer. Where do I start?

1:10
Eno Sarris: Firestone Walker Easy Jack. Saison Dupont. Old Rasputin. Any gose. The first tells if you like IPAs, the second saisons/Belgians, the third dark beers, the last sours.

1:10
Jeff: Keep quiet about Sam Dyson – just for two more weeks, please

1:10
Eno Sarris: Am I taking crazy pills? I think he’s the closer. Right. Now. Did nobody watch the playoffs?

1:10
Dave: Eno, Long time reader and listener of yours. Fifteen team roto. Should I keep McCullers, Matz and Severino at substantially the same price as my pitchers 2-4 or should I keep 2, keep Semien instead of one of them and draft a better No.2 pitcher. Price difference

1:11
Eno Sarris: I like Semien and though I love Matz, I like the other two guys better because of injury and better secondary stuff.

1:11
Scott: Forget baseball trades. Gimme some advice on a beer trade. I was offered Fou + Abraxas + one HF shelfie (probably Dorothy) for my Vanilla Rye. Love the VR but I feel like it’s too good of a deal to pass up. Thoughts?

1:11
Eno Sarris: Do it.

1:11
PV: What does Rubby need to do to improve against lefties this year?

1:12
Eno Sarris: I don’t get it. I like his change! He learned it from Pedro! Maybe he’s been focusing on the breakers too long.

1:12
Eno Sarris: Let’s lighten it up

1:13
George: Hi Eno! A buddy of mine and I are going to be in AZ this weekend and are thinking about going to the Fangraphs meetup tomorrow. Are there any social “do’s and don’ts” at these kinds of things. We’re both kind of socially awkward…

1:13
Eno Sarris: Don’t worry, we are all socially awkward because we are baseball nerds. Step up and shake my hand and don’t worry about looking foolish. The patio is ours and the only judgments shall be about baseball and baseball players.

1:14
Weird: Do you think answering a question on how many starts Henry Owens will have is more beneficial to the chat than answering the question about how much you like him and asking for a comp?

1:14
Eno Sarris: No but once you do one, doing the second takes away from talking about other players. And coming up with a comp like this right now in a chat… I can say this: Owens does more with his stuff and movements than his velocity suggests he should. I like him more than his projections.

1:14
Skip: Late to the party- Bradenton is pretty neat; within walking distance is Motorworks. Take the Skyway into St Pete and you have 3 Daughters, Cycle, and Greenbench and a few others near downtown.

1:14
Eno Sarris: Hey, Florida guy, thanks!

1:15
DJ: I have MadBum, Sale, and Fernandez in a 10 team keep 7. All of your Tier 1 guys are gone. Offense is balanced When should I jump back into more SPs? And would you go for high end RPs or just accumulate Saves late since I have a high K floor

1:15
Eno Sarris: Take hitters and closers until tier 3 starts getting scarce.

1:15
Scott: Do you think front offices are at all persuaded by the media or are they above that?

1:16
Eno Sarris: The Dodgers said they picked up Bolsinger because I wrote about his curveball, so in that way they are always gathering free information. There’s some scuttlebut that the Mets only went and got players last year because the media torched them, but in that way, I’m not so sure. Seems kind of lame if they do.

1:17
BB: Does Steamer makes updates to their projections during ST?

1:17
Eno Sarris: Depth chart changes will change the projections, but I don’t know if they re-run the whole thing or anything.

1:17
ScoKo: Eno did you hear the big Treehouse expansion news? I am hoping it leads to further distro, hopefully making it down to my neck of the woods (ny). Until then I may take a drive up. Only ones I have had are Julius, haze, and lights on. I want to try different ones next go around, which would you target if you were me? Not that I can go wrong.

1:18
Eno Sarris: Yes, heard last night over beers at Desert Eagle in Mesa. That’s great news. (Don’t go get beers at Desert Eagle though.)

1:18
Big Joe Montferrant: Eno, did you see Jorge Mateo run?? He fast!

1:18
Eno Sarris: Let me get my stopwatch out, oh yes, I confirm, he fast.

1:19
Chris: I’m running out of time. The chat is running out. My keeper deadline is running out. The time until my next meeting is running out. 5×5 roto, keep forever league. Build around Betts or Kris Bryant? Have to pick one.

1:19
Eno Sarris: They separated by three dollars in calculator, but I’ll say this: speed harder to find than power from a third baseman.

1:19
Dave: Was the research about reaching after the 9th round equally applicable to only leagues?

1:19
Eno Sarris: It was built on mixed leagues but I bet it actually speaks to how we think about risk in all leagues.

1:20
Colby: How do you feel about the hard soda market?

1:20
Eno Sarris: I don’t drink soda, so I’m not that into em.

1:20
O’Doyle: Maine Beer Co has a glowing reputation. I admit that Lunch is perfect, and Dinner probably is too, but everything else I’ve had from them has been just OK. Am I missing something, or is their rep built mostly on the two IPAs?

1:20
Eno Sarris: I think the ‘okay’ stuff is really well balanced, and the top stuff is elite.

1:20
Big Joe Montferrant: Let say with your last pick you have the choice between a crappy closer who could lose his job or Dellin Betances, who would you pick?

1:20
Eno Sarris: Betances.

1:20
Gary: Hey Eno! Who’s the better keeper for the next 3 years in a h2h? JP Crawford, Gergory Polanco or Trea Turner?

1:21
Eno Sarris: GP has a much much lower bust rate, and steals pretty valuable, even in the outfield.

1:21
Eno Sarris: Plus the other two won’t play for 1/2 to 1+ of those years.

1:21
Scott: What’s the most you’ve ever paid for a single bottle of beer?

1:21
Eno Sarris: Not sure exactly, but just over $40 for sure.

1:21
Eno Sarris: (bomber, not 12 ouncer).

1:22
John: Kyle Hendricks is the #5 for the Cubs, right? Or is the supposed battle between him and Warren actually a real thing?

1:22
Eno Sarris: I like Warren a lot, but I can’t imagine Hendricks loses the job. Every team needs a sixth starter, and I think Warren will pitch 100-120 innings. Hammel usually gets hurt.

1:23
Bork: Robot Umps and Robot Teams. This is my dream. This is the brightest timeline. I want to see dingers go across town.

1:23
Joe: SP Ranks. Reasoning of Greinke so high? Harvey > deGrom?

1:23
Eno Sarris: Greinke went down a bit in the update, deGrom up.

1:23
senpaisanto:

1:23
Paul: What is your auction dollar split for a league that emphasizes hitting? 80 hitting-20 pitching?

1:24
Eno Sarris: I haven’t had success at 80. 75 maybe.

1:24
Dave G: are there any under-the-radar closers that are going too late in drafts? Seems like people always panic and take closers too early…

1:24
Eno Sarris: I keep getting Allen and Robertson.

1:24
Baelfire: Am I crazy to trade matt harvey for Addison Russell + some minor pieces in a 12-team keep everyone forever, 6×6 (QS + BAA against instead of W, OPS + H instead of BAA) dynasty league? I have Thor, Gerrit Cole, Shelby Miller Jordan Zimmerman and odorizzi and a garbage mi situation. Also picking up some heady this weekend and I’m stoked.

1:24
Eno Sarris: I like it actually.

1:24
Mike: What are your thoughts on that Jered Weaver velo drop thing you retweeted yesterday? Is he done, leaving the Angels with another black hole to swallow up Trout, or do you think he can game it out another year on sheer guile?

1:24
Eno Sarris: I think they’ll find an injury and Tropeano will make the rotation.

1:25
Elisa Plum: In a dynasty league, pls rank alford, brinson, dahl, phillips. tks my legion

1:25
Eno Sarris: Tough one. Caveat is that I like guys that are close. Brinson Dahl Phillips Alford

1:26
Butts: Matt Holliday has a weird shaped head. Super pointy.

1:26
Roger: Eduardo Rodriguez or Luis Severino in a keeper league?

1:26
Eno Sarris: Severino.

1:26
Butts: Cantillon is undeniably amazing but I’ll take 3F Golden Blend over almost any reasonably available loon.

1:26
E=No2: So my mother-in-law was over our house and pretty sure she took 6 of my beers. (had 24 pack) Do I make it a big deal out of it or leave it alone?

1:26
Eno Sarris: LOL you don’t awaken the beast over six beers.

1:27
shubbles: over/under: my fleshy or my pesci?

1:27
Eno Sarris: I’m probably the only one that laughs at these by now.

1:27
Kakie Bryan: When will I make my much anticipated debut?

1:27
the bureau: okay once and for all is kakie bryan real please God

1:28
Yoenis: Cuban sandwich or enchilada pierna torta?

1:28
Eno Sarris: torta

1:28
Neil: im going to try to platoon Brad Miller this year in fantasy because he crushes righties – what is the downside to this strategy?

1:28
Eno Sarris: two roster spots in place of one.

1:28
Ritt Momney: START WITH NATTY LIGHT LIKE THE REST OF US KID

1:28
Eno Sarris: Well he’s probably not starting now.

1:29
But: Okay so Corbin and Keuchel aren’t the same pitchers, BUT I think what the person was asking, was if a good pitcher can become a great pitcher? Maybe i’m wrong but was intrigued by his question. Who can take that step to Keuchel like levels this season? Is it Corbin?

1:30
Eno Sarris: The problem with these questions is that you can’t even really go back and see the prescription for Keuchel from 14 to 15. Sure, 13 to 14 he ditched a pitch, grabbed a new one. Last year… he just threw fewer pitches in the zone and people whiffed more. This is why I grab quantity at the back end of the ace pool. one of those guys will win a Cy. And then I grab quantity in the five tier, too. One of those guys will be 14 Keuchel.

1:31
Kakie Bryan: Hola Eno

1:31
veldax: why can’t i find kakie bryant on yahoo

1:31
JDogg: Why are people not saying that 3B is the thinnest position when there is a cliff after the top 5 ?

1:31
Eno Sarris: I think that way about second base.

1:31
Forsyth: i am listening to the red sox game and david price is pitching and did u know he is good?

1:31
Stone Phillips: did you see matt adams run? he’s not fast.

1:32
David: You’ve referenced Firestone a few times. Have you tried Parabola, Helldorodo and/or Stickee Monkee? What’d you think?

1:32
Eno Sarris: All but Helldorodo and I love them for the most part.

1:32
Elisa Plum: Did someone say robot basebal?

1:32
Chris Pryor: Excited to see you at the conference, Eno! How did you feel about getting Alex Gordon in the 13th round of Tout Mixed? Seemed like he really fell a lot way.

1:33
Eno Sarris: By my values, he was like ten dollars more valuable than the other players that were available.

1:33
Eno Sarris: OBP league!

1:33
Terrible Ted:

WaluEno

1:33
Eno Sarris: Paul Sporer lol.

1:33
Terrible Ted: Mike Trout talking in the third person.

1:33
Bork: THE LUDES ARE TAKING OVER SOS

1:33
senpaisanto: dude…he’s still watching you…

1:34
Hannah Hochevar: Would you ever come wack on an old school track?

1:34
Scott: Your chats attract some weirdos. I can dig it.

1:34
Terrible Ted: Mike Trout hanging from Mary Poppin’s umbrella.

1:34
Josh: Jered Weaver to go for MRI after complaining of tightness in neck. Who else do you think will have an injury found?

1:34
Eno Sarris: James Paxton.

1:34
Jeff: Since you’re spoiling Dyson for me, can you give your take on Moustakas? He made adjustments to bring the average up in the first half and then readjusted in the second half to bring out the power. Could he go .275-25HR-80R-80RBI? Is that a reasonable upside projection or is it top-end?

1:34
Eno Sarris: Top end on the power, since he’s going oppo more to save his batting average.

1:34
Ryne: Is Aaron Nola good or bad? Can’t tell based on multiple opinions. Some love and some are just blah on him. Break the tie.

1:35
Eno Sarris: I love him. I see really good command and three good pitches and brains.

1:35
Eno Sarris: Not in the hanging brain sort of way, that would be gross.

1:35
Elisa Plum: How many home runs over 40 will Juston Bour hit?

1:35
Eno Sarris: -13

1:35
dbet: Do you think Strickland closes by years end?

1:35
Eno Sarris: Yes

1:35
tenaciousdeucer: can’t believe I am the only one in this crushing limbo of not knowing the proper pronunciation of “Kakie”. Is it like “cocky,” or more like “Ikea” with a K sound up front. (PLEASE DONT SAY “CAKEY”!!)

1:35
Eno Sarris: We’re pretty far down the rabbit hole.

1:36
Mainer Here: Stillwater Artisinal’s ‘Gose Gone Wild’ is a spectacular gose for those looking for one to try, especially if you like IPAs. And for the Maine Beer Co question earlier, I tend to agree about the non-Lunch/Dinner beers being good-but-not-elite but Mo and A Tiny Beautiful Something are the next tier below lunch for me. Next time there’s a Dinner release, I’ll grab one for you Eno.

1:36
Eno Sarris: Dinner was fantastic.

1:36
Jeet: Maikel Franco just hit a HR. Could he be the most bargain pick this year? He is less balyhoeed than ALL of the rookies from last season

1:36
Eno Sarris: Yeah, he’s pretty awesome, love high contact sluggers.

1:36
2-D:

1:36
Jeet: What is your position on offering trades to your league mates? Everyone wants to get the better side in a trade but at what point does it get annoying?

1:36
Jeet: (Totally get the irony of that last question)

1:36
Eno Sarris: Yah dude, you could chill on those offers. I try to craft something the other side would take.

1:36
Stone Phillips: everytime i hear you mention firestone i’m like “why is eno talking about tires?”

1:37
Eno Sarris: and now he’s talking about goodyear ffs.

1:38
Eno Sarris: for all of us

1:38
Bork: If FG meetups are full of awkward people who will judge me on my baseball opinions, should I just show up in a Blue Jays Izturis jersey to show my dominance early?

1:38
Eno Sarris: Munenori.

1:38
Maxamuz: And now Asdrubal Cabrera is injured.

1:38
Eno Sarris: Wilmerrrrrrrrrrrrr
