Eno Sarris Baseball Chat – 5/16/13
8:46 |
: be here in 15
|
9:00 |
Feel it come, I don’t know how long Everyday, back and forth, what’s it for? |
9:00 |
ghost Eno returns |
9:00 |
Think I got a problem down here… |
9:00 |
Cathartic experience of the day: Dropping B.J. Upton. I feel like I did when I dropped CJ Wilson last year. |
9:00 |
: strange interlude.
|
9:00 |
: prelude I guess.
|
9:00 |
Keith Law is also chatting at noon today. My question is: what are your general feelings on competition? |
9:01 |
|
9:01 |
Hi Eno, Once Brett Anderson comes off the Dl who should I drop? Lohse, Haren, Cashner or Fister. No bench and none will be kept. Thanks! |
9:01 |
: Lohse. Don’t like his home park or his stuff really.
|
9:01 |
Forget streaming starters vs. HOU… opposing starters in MIA is where it’s at |
9:01 |
: I Leaked all over my opponent yesterday.
|
9:01 |
Very concerned about David Price. What’s a reasonable return? Grienke? Latos? Sanchez? Kuroda? Lower? |
9:02 |
|
9:02 |
Can Viciedo stay this hot? Drop Willingham for him if I need HR/RBI’s ROS? |
9:02 |
: I’d like to see a sustained run of success against righties first.
|
9:02 |
Can Yelich fix my Ike Davis problem? Any ideas when he is gonna be up? |
9:02 |
: I don’t think they are in a hurry.
|
9:03 |
I’m debating offering Arenado & Fowler for Machado. Is this fair or am I offering to much/little? |
9:03 |
|
9:03 |
a few weeks ago i asked about what i could get for weaver. i thought the best i would do was a similarly broken player was adam dunn but you assured me i could do better than that. i ended up getting starlin castro. approve? |
9:03 |
: Of course!
|
9:03 |
Rather have J. Dyson or A. Eaton? |
9:04 |
: Eaton. Well, I know his job seems more in jeopardy, but if they both have jobs, it’s clearly EAton for me, and I just read the DBacks saying he has the job when he’s back.
|
9:04 |
O where O where can our Beergraphs be? Did Eno drink them? Or did the tea-tottlers kill it? |
9:04 |
|
9:05 |
Also, with regards to Anderson, Haren, Lohse, Cashner & Fister. Would you drop any of these for Ogando? Thanks. |
9:05 |
: Lohse again. If you want both… could drop old man Haren I guess.
|
9:05 |
is fernandez a must-start (or at least start 90% of the time) pitcher now? start him tonight at home vs CIN? |
9:06 |
: He’s always been that for me. I don’t know why people don’t love him as much as I do. Crazy good stuff.
|
9:06 |
Two weeks later: you SURE i can’t drop Vogelsong yet? 20 teams but who has pitched worse?? |
9:07 |
|
9:07 |
E-no!, E-no!, E-no! |
9:07 |
Good God, I accidentally almost put my question for the queue in the comments section below. I was almost “that guy.” |
9:07 |
Alex Trebek: Your daddy Ken Jennings: Who is Shelby Miller. |
9:07 |
: Well done people.
|
9:07 |
Hamels nooooooo! |
9:07 |
: I don’t get it. Really don’t.
|
9:07 |
“Young Player X is projectable.” What does this mean to you? I interpret that as saying that Player X can grow/add muscle and improve his velocity/power/etc, but I’m not sure if that’s right. |
9:08 |
: Yes. Also with a dash of ‘his flaws may be correctable.’
|
9:08 |
Hi Eno…noticed on your 3b consensus ranks that you said that ‘this wraps up the infield’ but I don’t recall seeing a consensus rank for SS. Is this yet to come out or did I miss it? Thanks! |
9:08 |
: Oops! Those are coming later today. What had happened was…
|
9:08 |
My outfield is stacked and I have Granderson coming off the DL. Ideas for pitchers I should be targeting to trade my Beltran for? |
9:09 |
: These are so tough for me. I don’t work like this. I go to a team that needs OF pop and look at what pitchers they have. Plus, on here, it’s easier for me to say yes/no to actual names.
|
9:09 |
My platoon of Frazier + Moosetacos platoon at 3B is 🙁 |
9:09 |
: Should finish the season with a .25+ average and 25 homers. In a deep league, that shouldn’t wreck your palate for more.
|
9:10 |
Please rank these speculative saves/setup guys for 5×5 h2h: Cook, Herrera, Burton, Joe Smith |
9:10 |
: Herrera, Cook.
|
9:10 |
Justin Upton fro Strasburg in a H2H? Pure value alone… |
9:10 |
: They both look like second-rounders this year.
|
9:10 |
Is there any hope for Dillon Gee to turn things around or at least be servicable in NL-Only? |
9:11 |
: One thing Dillon Gee tries to do which is just straight up bad news is use his fastball high in the zone. His fastball is lucky to go 88. His changeup is nice, but it’s not getting the whiffs it used to. I’m not hopeful.
|
9:11 |
Eno…I have Beltre and Machado and am doing well on offense. I could use a bump in some pitching categories like Wins, ERA and WHIP. What do you think about trading Beltre for a Kershaw, Felix or Hamels and rolling with Machado? Too big a drop off at 3B? |
9:11 |
: No that’s a good idea. Either way, actually. You have surplus.
|
9:11 |
How do you approach fantasy owners for trades? The leagues I’ve been in, when I make offers, they are responded to as though blasphemy against God Himself — or they aren’t responded to at all. I don’t want to make obviously self-harming offers, but people seem to fail to understand that trades are generally a back-and-forth and the initial offer is just that, a starting point. |
9:12 |
: Trading is really really hard. I think the best thing to do is dispense with the first offer in your mind and go to the second one. That makes it close.
|
9:12 |
Does Jose Fernandez have Kentucky Breakfast Stout upside (Top 5)? |
9:13 |
: You know what else Jose Fernandez has in common with KBS? Other than the Bourbon Barrel in Tennessee, it’s mostly surrounded by mediocrity.
|
9:13 |
I’ve been offered Wilin Rosario for Starling Marte (I already have sal perez manning the one C spot). I’m behind in HRs, but could use sal’s BA, should I pull the trigger? |
9:13 |
: Nope. Perez is a one-cat guy with a high BABIP at a position that doesn’t usually have high BABIPS, and a higher K% thatne he used to have.
|
9:14 |
Thoughts on nori aoki? Undervalued in fantasy? |
9:14 |
: Mostly correctly valued. In a scrum with other 10/30 guys. But if I could Aoki and something real nice for my Marte and something real terrible… that might work for me.
|
9:14 |
Help! I lost Aaron Hill as my 2b/ss in a deep league. I am now forced to add the likes of Yunel Escobar, Chris Nelson, Adam Rosales, Darwin Barney or Beckham.. Whom should I pick up for the next month (hopefully)? |
9:14 |
: Yuck. Esco plays a bit more that most, has a bit more upside.
|
9:14 |
HOSMOER OR ZOBRIST ROS? |
9:14 |
: Zobrist.
|
9:14 |
Please help settle a debate. Which rotation would you rather have (6×6 with QS added) A: Darvish, Scherzer, Fister, Bailey, Samardzija and Beachy or B: A Sanchez, Greinke, CC, J Garcia, Cobb and Pettitte? Thanks |
9:15 |
: Darvish Shark Scherz side. and I like Greinke.
|
9:15 |
The day i get Greinke back Price gets hurt, FML… |
9:15 |
: RIGHT IN THE HOOHA
|
9:15 |
Brett Gardner reduced role going forward? |
9:15 |
: No I’d bet on Ichiro’s role being most in jeopardy.
|
9:15 |
Ride Rickie Week’s or pick up Jedd Gyorko? |
9:16 |
: Kinda like Gyorko for the upside, especially if I was protecting batting average. Weeks is likely going to hit .230 RoS.
|
9:16 |
Hello Enos, what do you make of Kyle Kendrick? I may have asked this before. But too old to remember. Thanks for answering…..again? |
9:17 |
: I don’t love him. I know he’s altered his pitching mix a bit, but the peripherals are pretty much the same. Control can only get you so far. I’d call him a true talent 3.9/1.2 6k9 guy, which is back end stuff.
|
9:17 |
More likely to turn into a pumpkin, Corbin or T Wood/ |
9:17 |
: Wood. For sure.
|
9:17 |
How golden is Machado in keeper leagues? |
9:18 |
: Pretty golden. One thing that stands out for me are his low minor league BABIPs. Also, pretty sure he’s not going back to SS.
|
9:18 |
Neil Walker, Arenado, Matt Carpenter all pretty much equal ROS? Should I ever play Arenado away from Coors? |
9:18 |
: I have Walker slightly ahead because of position and a bit more power/speed combo than the other two.
|
9:18 |
: MY CAT IS BACK!
|
9:19 |
: Phew. My half-blind siamese rescue walked off, but he’s back.
|
9:19 |
So I just completed a big trade in my keeper league… This is the last year I own Fielder and Tulowitzki and they go back into the pot after this season. I traded them both along with League and Ryu for Rizzo, Segura and Medlen. Can now keep Rizzo 4 years and both Segura and Medlen 5 years at rd 13 going forward. Was that enough of a haul? |
9:19 |
: Yes. yes that was great. I think you did really well.
|
9:19 |
Since it’s your job to do fantasy baseball, do you do my work when you should be doing fantasy stuff? I assume me wasting time on fantasy at work all evens out. |
9:20 |
: Actually, with BeerGraphs, you’re not far off. Except of course that’s beer related so what should I be doing when you’re drinking beer?
|
9:20 |
My daughter is sick again, and last night I jumped at the chance to stay home from work with her. My wife said “Are you ok? Normally I have to fight you on this..” The look on her face when I said Eno Sarris Chat was priceless. |
9:20 |
: I love you.
|
9:20 |
Cat is Back! Hit the sack! Don’t think he would ever come back! (Sing it like back in black) DUDA!! |
9:20 |
: One man lude.
|
9:20 |
and I thought you knew how to protect CAT(agories) as a FBB player…. tsk tsk |
9:21 |
: a stretch.
|
9:21 |
I like cats. |
9:21 |
: I like lamp.
|
9:21 |
McAllister vs SEA a good streaming option for H2H? Best alternative is…Jeff Locke vs HOU i guess. I feel bad because I know zero things about Jeff Locke so he’s probably not getting picked up |
9:21 |
: Ug, as a pitcher I like Locke a tiny bit better. and it’s an NL lineup.
|
9:21 |
What is Brian Eno`s name was Brian Anu instead? |
9:22 |
: Funny thing, I’m German, at least my family is. And you actually say “E” as “eh” so when you say my name in German it pretty much sounds like “ehnal.”
|
9:22 |
Why is Tyler Colvin in the minors w/ Cuddyer on the shelf and Todd Helton being shell of former self? Todd Shellton, if you will. |
9:22 |
: I don’t get it either.
|
9:22 |
Why can’t Machado move back to SS in the future? |
9:23 |
: I think it’s more that he won’t. Mostly people stay at their positions once they settle in, and the Miggie Cabs episode is the outlier.
|
9:23 |
Lose Rutledge for Hill when he comes back? |
9:23 |
: I love Rut Rut. Wait for that to happen and his BA will be better and you can trade him.
|
9:23 |
I am in a 6X6 head-to-head that includes Saves and Holds. I am punting on Saves and have Holds on lock-down. That said: if/when Jensen gets the nod in LA, what should of value should I expect in return? Top 25 OF? Bourn, maybe? |
9:24 |
: I’m very upset that J Crain just got traded for Hanley in a similar league I’m in. so you might as well shoot for the moon. But pick your team/victim wisely.
|
9:24 |
is dondalson for real and if so should I trade headley for a ss in a h2h league. I have albertson at ss, moss 1b, rutledge 2b |
9:25 |
: I’m pegging Donaldson for about a .260 average rest of season, with 20-ish homer power. That’s real enough to trade Headley because good god this must be a deep league and you need an SS
|
9:25 |
Trying to deal saves for C. Me: Grilli, Kimbrel, Bell, Kenley. Other guy: Wilin, McCann. What’s the fairest 1 to 1? |
9:26 |
: If only you’d done this two weeks ago, you could gotten McCann for Grilli. Eh, I might still try that. Bell probably doesn’t have trade value and Kimbrel and Kenley are sexy time.
|
9:26 |
How are your expert league teams doing? |
9:26 |
: Okay! AL-LABR is top four or five. Tout’s about the same. Blog Wars I’m in first or second daily. My ottoneu team is the one that’s seventh and I’m not happy with it.
|
9:26 |
Is there any reason to be optimistic about Brett Lawrie? |
9:27 |
: He’s shown power at multiple spots, he has speed, and most years he doesn’t strike out too much to have a good batting average. I’ll be all over him for cheap next year. And would buy him in a keeper league. In fact… I think I’ll go after him in this one where I need a 3B.
|
9:27 |
I love me some over/under. Paul Konerko: O/U .275 average .. O/U 25 HR |
9:28 |
: Under under
|
9:28 |
Trade Bruce fof Fowler? 10×10 (doubles, triples, etc.) |
9:28 |
: The extra cats make me say yes.
|
9:28 |
Eno, have you ever tried anything by Buffalo Bayou Brewing? It’s a local Houston microbrewery that makes really good brews. I tried it for the first time last week and was highly impressed. Not sure how widely marketed it is (I haven’t been able to find it at a store yet), but you should try it if you happen across it. |
9:28 |
: good Houston microbrew is actually good news. For America.
|
9:28 |
Always wanted to know – do you copy paste good ‘lude comments to save for later? |
9:28 |
: No I scroll up and down when I see a couple build up, like this:
|
9:29 |
Ever done a breakfast stout….for breakfast? |
9:29 |
Nibblin on big league chew Watchin the ball fly All of those pitchers arms covered with oil Swinging my big bat Oh the ball it goes smack Smell the hot dogs Im begining to toil Wastin away again in LUCAS DUDA-VILLE |
9:29 |
also Tame Impala are really, really, really, excellent. |
9:29 |
: It’s very rare to get a lude that flows all the way through.
|
9:29 |
You should just change the name of these chats to “Mostly Random Stuff with Some Baseball Interludes Sprinkled In” |
9:30 |
: Well hey baseball wrings us all together.
|
9:30 |
Eno! I just found out you’re an Augustiner fan (my favorite brewery!). Have you found a place that carries it in the Bay? When I moved to Southern California it took me 2 years to find a place that carries it…for $20 a 6 pack. |
9:30 |
: BevMo usually has their stuff!
|
9:30 |
Alan…I wonder how my girlfriend feels…Eno, I must have mentioned you like 3-4 times in a month. Which is a lot considering you are a guy…who is also a stranger…shiz just got weird. |
9:31 |
: Well if you’re in SF, CHI or NY, you can bring her to meet me at a FanGraphs/BeerGraphs meetup. That would be even weirder!
|
9:31 |
You may love me, but will you pay for the divorce attorney? |
9:31 |
Do you know what….. “The Sixth Sense” wouldn’t work if it were filmed today. To many motion detecting faucets. |
9:31 |
![]() |
9:31 |
Eno, please educate the masses and Juan Pierres Mustache on why Lucas Duda is hereby and shall ever be, a Man Beast among Bear pigs in the world of Baseball. |
9:31 |
: A Duda-esque Interlude.
|
9:31 |
Duda? |
9:31 |
: yes. Duda.
|
9:32 |
carlos beltran and huston street for derek holland and jaime garcia, who wins? |
9:32 |
: pitcher side. Just because they both have more value than Street and not too much less value than Beltran. Who will miss time this year.
|
9:32 |
$5 Didi for $25 Hanram… Still Han Ram? |
9:33 |
: I suppose in a keeper league, if you were struggling, you might go Didi.
|
9:33 |
: But I think Didi is probably a true talent .275/15/5 player. if the power is real, he could push that to .280/20/5
|
9:33 |
How golden is getting to keep Jean Segura in your last round forever? |
9:33 |
: Very. But I think you wanted more for knowing that was tame impala.
|
9:34 |
Is it sad that I look forward to this chat every week? |
9:34 |
: no because I do too
|
9:34 |
I am on pace for a WAR of 11.0 |
9:34 |
: #onpacefor
|
9:34 |
what are the chances Shelby Miller finishes ahead of Matt Harvey in end of year rankings? |
9:34 |
: I don’t see it. Well, wins might do it. But Harvey has more pitches. Ug, Miller is going to do it, isn’t he?
|
9:35 |
: Oh. You are going to help ME. For once. pffft.
|
9:36 |
: I’m in second in my Blog Wars league. I have a crazy staff for a fifteen teamer: CC, Harvey, Shark, Miller, AJBurnett, JFenrandez, JParker with Nathan and Wilhelmsen. I’m 40 over IP pace already, and have Colby Lewis and Corey Luebke coming at some point. Who do you trade?
|
9:37 |
: Remember, Fernandez gets me the least back. Maybe not much at all.
|
9:37 |
Is it a keeper league? |
9:37 |
: redraft
|
9:37 |
Trade CC. Gget a great return. Plus he’s fat. |
9:37 |
: Interesting.
|
9:37 |
“WHOM should Eno trade” |
9:38 |
: yes. whom.
|
9:38 |
I voted to trade Harvey: he’s amazing but his value will never be higher |
9:38 |
: But that’s a problem. Because I love him.
|
9:38 |
Maybe get someone to bite on “awesome” AJ |
9:38 |
Remember, the Pirates are going to explode, because, they’re the Pirates. |
9:38 |
Samardzija and twice on Sunday. |
9:38 |
: You don’t believe?
|
9:38 |
Considering your league is above smarts in fantasy, I would look for an owner that has a surplus of something, and make a trade if they need pitching |
9:39 |
: yeah but the best I’ve gotten with this approach is an offer of Hart plus something for Miller. And and idea (in my head) that I could go after Bruce somehow. I need BA and RBI. 5×5 cats.
|
9:39 |
i chose fernandez, but mostly because i wonder if other people would be willing to give full value despite the IP limit. harvey maybe for the same reason but you probably won’t trade him because mets. Burnett maybe because of those guys, he’s the one most likely to have an inexplicable meltdown. I’ve been trading for Samardzija because he’s been slightly off lately and people seem jumpy, so I doubt you get good value for him |
9:39 |
: Fernandez IP limit is a problem.
|
9:39 |
I also always advocate selling SP who are out to a good start but are in their first full MLB season: fatigue is basically unavoidable and IP limits happen w/o warnings |
9:40 |
: So Miller or Harvey.
|
9:40 |
I have shameless love for AJ Burnett. |
9:40 |
: Well not so shameless if you can just yell it out like that.
|
9:40 |
Elena Ruz – Cuban sandwich w turkey, Swiss, jam on hot pressed Cuban bread |
9:40 |
: WAIT WHAT I WANT
|
9:40 |
Now that I know redraft, I say CC. That should fetch something of value. |
9:40 |
: Maybe I go that way and keep my younguns.
|
9:41 |
In a leauge like that, I once won by NOT trading my excess pitching. I just dropped the scrubs for interesting daily plays for hitters and waved my genetalia at the rest of my league, metaphorically speaking. |
9:41 |
: It wouldn’t be a chat without metaphorical genetalia.
|
9:41 |
trade burnett. he’s so meh and replaceable. |
9:41 |
: He’s been pretty awesome in the NL.
|
9:41 |
You pick up Lucas Duda and let the good times roll Eno. |
9:41 |
: The answer for everything.
|
9:41 |
DL stash: Luebke or Beachy? |
9:41 |
: Beachy for me.
|
9:41 |
For years I bought Ron Shandler’s books before the advent of BP and FG. This year he piqued my interest when articles quoted him as down on Trout, which was contrary to popular expert opinion. His views on Trout looked smart until we hit May. Do you think Shandler might have been trolling for a little publicity with this opinion? |
9:42 |
: I cannot speak for his motives. And also, he could be saying that he’ll regress this year, and still be right. Like, I thought he’d regress, and tried to roll back all of his numbers, and still came up with .290/20+/40. He’ll probably outdo those power numbers and maybe come up short in steals, but that’s regression… and it’s also great.
|
9:43 |
My outfield sucks. Wil Myers is still coming up next month, yes? |
9:43 |
: June 15, I’d guess. To a bad BA and some power.
|
9:43 |
But also remember, you can bench some of these guys in really bad matchups and that will save you innings |
9:43 |
: I thought that, but other than Fernandez and Parker… who you benching
|
9:43 |
Beergraphs needs to include available options at ML & later MILB stadiums and the prices. I’d hate to take a trip to a stadium I am not familiar with only to find they only have Miller Lite. |
9:43 |
: Finger. Nose. (and not for picking).
|
9:44 |
Are Burnett’s current numbers really that sustainable? |
9:44 |
: maybe not 100%, but 80+% yes I think so.
|
9:44 |
FYI Eno that monstrosity of a trade (crain for hamlet) just got overturned in hustlers |
9:44 |
: Phew.
|
9:44 |
I have shameless love for Bartolo Colon: Here’s my FB, on the edges, try to hit it or watch it for strike 3….how can he possibly not help in whip w/ that approach? |
9:44 |
: Because hits. Not walks, but hits. Mostly away from home. I picked him up in my 20-teamer and am happy.
|
9:45 |
Bark twice if you’re in Milwaukee |
9:45 |
I once waved my genitalia at the rest of my league in a non-metaphorical way. |
9:45 |
DON’T SAY THAT ABOUT AJ!!! Strike outs, ohhh those glorious strike outs. |
9:45 |
Opps Sorry |
9:45 |
: DON’T BE SORRY, KEEP PUSHING. WE’RE GETTING WEIRDER PEOPLE.
|
9:45 |
ortiz/scherzer enough for a top 5 pitcher? |
9:45 |
: Yes.
|
9:45 |
Whats Ian Kennedy’s value at this point? |
9:46 |
: Actually think his control is going to better. Has a top-ten first strike rate (see my piece on Getting Blanked today). So I’d keep and wait for him to build a little more value.
|
9:46 |
I am waiting for the little new blurb about Harvey’s potential IP limit to fade away and then trying to trade him (in my less intense league) |
9:46 |
: he can go to 190. That’s not a ‘real’ limit, unless your H2H league goes to final day.
|
9:46 |
![]() Don't ignore me little man!! |
9:47 |
: Oh god I mentioned weird, I brought this on ourselves again
|
9:47 |
Outside of clear cut aces, I’d bench all of those guys at Cinci, at Colarado, at Texas…Harvey and the shark I’d start. CC you have to be wary of because of his velo…possibly long ball prone. |
9:48 |
: We looked at this internally for ottoneu points, which really dings you for homers allowed, and the do/don’t start line is far south of my guys. All of these guys are every-starters other than Jose, and that’s just because we don’t know enough. IMO. Maybe not AJB in Yankee stadium because of THE HORRORS.
|
9:48 |
Is there enough data now to draw any conclusion about team offenses going forward for streaming purposes? Miami’s been expectedly terrible, but at least to me, the white sox have been worse than I expected. |
9:48 |
: They’ve had a lot of PAs. I think you can say something about them.
|
9:48 |
w/r/t Shandler/Trout: even if he was trolling, it wasn’t like he was off the mark. If you passed on Miggy for Trout – you’re regretting it. Even with Trout heating up this month. |
9:49 |
: yeah but the top three picks aren’t ‘busts’ if they return top round production imo.
|
9:49 |
Do you think Gausman and/or Wheeler will be up? If so, projected ROS? |
9:49 |
: No earlier than June 15 for Wheeler. And I like him. Gausman a little more hittable right now, but could come up whenever.
|
9:49 |
gosh, if you really need someone to go to all the major and minor league ballparks in the vicinity of Philadelphia and drink beer there i GUESS i could do that if you twisted my arm |
9:49 |
: Okay FINE I’ll go too
|
9:49 |
Medlen… What’s up? |
9:50 |
: He wasn’t as good as we thought last year because he never had the K rate of an ace. Now he’s having a bit of trouble, but his control should get better (top four first strike rate). I just think he’s a decent #2 in fantasy.
|
9:50 |
: (and was always, true talent)
|
9:50 |
OBP league – what minor league hitter do I stash for the June call ups? I want to stash colvin |
9:51 |
: I guess, but Colvin’s not waiting on June 15. Nick Franklin?
|
9:51 |
Would you trade Duda in an 8×8 league in which one of the categories is Dudas? |
9:51 |
: But you could DOMINATE.
|
9:51 |
someone in my league just traded Kennedy for Kendrick. |
9:51 |
: I think that’s selling low.
|
9:51 |
Should I go to times square in my cut offs for the Never nude party today? #AD2013 |
9:52 |
: This sounds like a must. Except! Times Square. I lived in Hell’s Kitchen and hated that place.
|
9:52 |
![]() Dont ignore me little man!! And trade Shelby…a lot of value and will have innings limit. |
9:52 |
: How could we ignore you.
|
9:52 |
Deep NL-only, which two of Feldman, Nolasco, Slowey |
9:52 |
: Feldman Slowey
|
9:52 |
If you want to avoid a park w/ disappointing beer selection: avoid Fenway (pains this sox fan to say it but their options stink) |
9:52 |
I’m an old fart. I still drink San Miguel and Tsingtao. How hopeless am I? |
9:52 |
When the going gets weird, the weird turn to Eno. |
9:52 |
The white zone is for loading and unloading only. |
9:52 |
stop with the weird apple, i think my boss would prefer it if my screen showed porn |
9:52 |
: I enjoyed that interlude.
|
9:52 |
I need power. Is Adam Dunn or Chris Carter rosterable in a 12 team, OBP league (2 Util spots, 3 OF spots, 1 1B and no CI spots) |
9:53 |
: Of course in an OBP league yes. probably go with the ‘proven’ Dunn, especially with Carter’s BABIP right now.
|
9:53 |
: Any question for the Royals? Going to try to interview some Royals tomorrow when they are in town for Oakland.
|
9:53 |
Wait wait wait. I have to keep track of multiple websites to see your pieces? Wasn’t aware of that. Are they all also located on this enosarris.com I see linked at the bottom? |
9:54 |
enosarris.com, but yes, I point to my writings there.
: I’m bad at updating at |
9:54 |
16 team limited keeper with salaries i’m thinking of trading Stanton……have Mcutcheon locked up. should i do it?? Who should i be looking for in return( not specifically as you don;t know my roster :D) |
9:54 |
: Don’t sell low. At least wait a couple months.
|
9:54 |
Do I give up on Hosmer? |
9:54 |
: I believe in .275/15/10, and with steals being rarer these days..
|
9:55 |
Andrus or Segura 2013 and long term? |
9:55 |
: Segura. More power.
|
9:55 |
Thoughts on Carlos Pena (3 HR so far)? O/U 20 HRs? |
9:55 |
: I’ll take the over. Nice home park, good weather coming.
|
9:55 |
Beergraphs stadium edition would be awesome. Get on that! I can vouch that Minute Maid has a variety of refreshing craft beers (at unfortunate stadium prices, c’est la vie). Very underrated stadium though. Especially since you can sit behind home plate for $56 (true story – no one goes anymore). |
9:55 |
Do we see Billy Hamilton before September and does he have a fantasy impact this year? |
9:56 |
: His defense is already better than Choo’s. He needs to show better work at the plate, and I think he will. I’m still saying mid-June for him.
|
9:56 |
How many people are in the chat room right now? |
9:56 |
: THIS BOAT IS TOTALLY SINKING
|
9:56 |
Well I thought this was a roto 5×5 league. You look to protect your whip and era. You have all second half to play matchups and make adjustments. You are 40 innings ahead. Take the safe route and protect your ratios. |
9:57 |
: This is true. But I’d rather leap out in front, trade one for a bat (my OF right now (5OF, 15 team) is Marte, McCutchen, D Brown, Werth, C Quentin, L Martin, R Raburn, R Grossman). Wait, is that fine?
|
9:57 |
Garza worth picking up when Cashner is available and pitching right now? |
9:58 |
Regarding KBS and Fernandez…. Do you mean Kentucky/Tennessee mediocrity or are you bashing my beloved Founder’s? |
9:58 |
: I’d pick up Garza, stash on DL, then pick up Cashner. Wipes hands.
|
9:58 |
: oops. I meant Kentucky/Tennessee. Because Founder’s is great.
|
9:58 |
I like Wheeler over Gausman because of NL, bigger park, and gets to play the Phils, Marlins, and Braves (strikeouts). Solid logic? |
9:58 |
: yes.
|
9:58 |
the astros offense: not as horrendous as you’d think, though many Ks. Is the NL factor enough that I should be looking for MIAs instead of HOUs when I look for streamers? |
9:59 |
Denver beer graphs meet up! Great Divide is right down town by Coors Field! |
9:59 |
Downside: Having to watch the Rockies. |
9:59 |
: yes
|
9:59 |
if it’s howie that’s kinda ok |
9:59 |
: Oh I figured Kyle.
|
9:59 |
Apparently some band called Casting Crowns is playing after the Braves game on Sunday. Has anyone ever heard of them or are the Braves marketing people just hoping people get them confused with Counting Crows? |
9:59 |
: That would be kind of hilarious.
|
9:59 |
Pick one starter (or rank), RoS: Porcello, Colon, Pettibone, Blanton. Or to throw some injured guys in there: McGowan, Morales, Brett Myers. Thanks! |
10:00 |
: yucks. Colon. With a side of Blanton in good matchups. I guess.
|
10:00 |
If you like Tame Impala you should check out Dungen… a lot like them but with more jazz flute… and vocals in Swedish. |
10:00 |
: yes I like Dungen. Can’t sing a long though.
|
10:00 |
G’day Eno. It was tough to do but I traded Harvey in a keeper league. The return was Buster Posey. I think I did alright… |
10:00 |
: Yum.
|
10:00 |
Where did the Airplane reference come from in the 12:52/9:52 interlude? Well, actually, no excuses are needed for Airplane references, so carry on. |
10:01 |
: Modest mouse reference if you’re talking about the boat thing.
|
10:01 |
I think people are wrong in the poll on trading CC. I would trade Miller. 75% FB. You know what you are getting from your other starters for the most part. Miller will get you back the hitter you need. Aj wont. So there is the difference. |
10:01 |
: Yeah I’m leaning Miller. Partially because of the fast ball thing too.
|
10:01 |
Gregorious and Teheran for Fernandez in a 16 team mixed keeper fair? |
10:01 |
: If you have a viable shortstop behind… I’d ask for a throw-in offensive piece that has a bit of upside, maybe at OF.
|
10:02 |
Give me the tl;dr version of your Roto-Relevant Research column. |
10:02 |
: Already did: Ian Kennedy, Kris Medlen and oh Kevin Slowey should be walking fewer batters shortly.
|
10:02 |
Ellsbury or Bourn? |
10:02 |
: Ells
|
10:02 |
What do you think of revivified Devil Rays “Roberto Hernandez” and Jim Loney? |
10:03 |
: Loney is a one-cat guy that could hit .290 rest of season if you sit him against lefties. No power or speed though… Fausto Roberto is a definite deep league own.
|
10:03 |
Do I drop BJ Upton for the first big OF prospect to get called up? |
10:03 |
: I’m going to have more patience with him, he does this a lot. Also, even more patience in OBP leagues.
|
10:03 |
Ask Hosmer why he is ruining my dynasty team. |
10:03 |
ask mike moustakas why HE HATES MY FANTASY TEAM AHJFHSDJK |
10:04 |
: HE HATE YOU
|
10:04 |
Wait, so… your interview with Simmons, I tweeted you about his nickname Simba. What was the reasoning behind that? |
10:04 |
: I actually asked him about that and he said no lions. Just a couple of cats. He was named Simba… because a minor league coach thought it was easier than Simmons. It’s like “Simmy” or something similarly inane. Couldn’t figure out a good reason to put it in story haha.
|
10:04 |
Eno, you should hire someone to update your personal website. It would probably be worth it in the long run. |
10:05 |
: First I need to make the money in order to hire someone to do crap like that for me.
|
10:05 |
WW pickup – Kazmir, dela Rosa or Liriano? |
10:05 |
: Kaz then Liriano.
|
10:05 |
Dynasty League: Trade Darvish, Middlebrooks, Rutledge for Latos, Castro and Lawrie? |
10:05 |
: No. I like your side better.
|
10:05 |
Had a delicious Green Man IPA and then followed that up with a boring SNPA. Has it always been that bland? Was I just in denial? |
10:06 |
: Green Flash? Who’s Green Man? And what’s SNPA again
|
10:06 |
seriously though, I’d be interested in hearing about what guys like hosmer, moustakas and so on do to keep a positive approach despite struggling on-field…they both seem to have stuck by their swings and I’ve seen a lot of guys make constant adjustments when it’s not the approach that’s the problem |
10:06 |
: Yes, you’re right, that would be interesting.
|
10:06 |
ESPN tells me Giancarlo Stanton is now running in a pool. Which brings us to the obvious question of which MLB player would you take in a pool footrace? |
10:06 |
: Adam Dunn.
|
10:06 |
Dunn has been worth negative 2 WAR with the White Sox. What how I mean what? Nobody could have reasonably expected that, right? |
10:06 |
: Well, at DH it’s much easier to do this sort of thing.
|
10:07 |
Alex Rios, number 9 fantasy player for the rest of the year. Prove me wrong. |
10:07 |
: Batting average.
|
10:07 |
HI ENO HERE IS A HUG! |
10:07 |
THIS CHAT HAS GONE OFF THE RAILS. |
10:07 |
: perfectly paired interlude.
|
10:07 |
How many people in the chats do you know personally based on handles and question content? |
10:07 |
: Two or three, and none in real life.
|
10:07 |
At 9:13 did you call Founders’ beer mediocre? |
10:08 |
: No I called Tennessee and Kentucky craft beer mediocre.
|
10:08 |
Down and dirty time:Fausto, Slowey, or McAllister? |
10:08 |
: Slowey ALL DAY for me.
|
10:08 |
Travis Snider, benched vs RHP in favor of Tabata due to “lack of power?” I was hoping for a breakout. Time to bail? |
10:08 |
: Yeah it’s about time on him.
|
10:08 |
Re: Casting Crowns, I always figured that was the deal with Haverford College. It’s in the North East and it sounds like someone saying Harvard with an extra snooty accent. Probably 43% of the aunts/uncles/grandparents of Haverford students think the kid goes to Harvard. |
10:08 |
I’m all alone in the office today. Pants on or off? |
10:08 |
: PANTS OFF EVERY CHANCE
|
10:08 |
: too much caps today?
|
10:08 |
Is Kazmir really ownable? |
10:08 |
Really? |
10:09 |
: The velocity is back, and the swinging strikes too. Next matchup is Seattle. He’s between matchups and ownable outright.
|
10:09 |
Really really? |
10:09 |
: Sorta really
|
10:09 |
Halladay out 8 weeks. |
10:09 |
: He’s done.
|
10:09 |
SNPA? = Sierra Nevada? |
10:10 |
: Oh duh. Yeah, well, it’s likely the California replacement level pale ale. (RL is really high in Cali)
|
10:11 |
Will Jesus Montero ever hit rhp? Will he dh once Zunino is ready? |
10:12 |
: Zunino has hit a rough spell and can’t hit the curveball right now. Montero has the rest of the season to give it a shot. I still have some hope for him, but Seattle people don’t seem ot.
|
10:12 |
don’t blaspheme SNPA folks….it’s a 2.5 WAR sometime all-star if you don’t ask too much of it and protect it against tough lefties |
10:12 |
: In Texas, it might get up to two wins.
|
10:12 |
What will the end of year stat line be for Kipnis |
10:12 |
: .250+/20/25
|
10:12 |
You have to feel it, deep down in your PLUMS!!!! |
10:12 |
It’s like when Barry Zuckercorn jumped the shark |
10:12 |
oh no i just woke up 🙁 |
10:13 |
: Jump in with both feet interlude.
|
10:13 |
Is Lester a top 10 SP rest of the way |
10:13 |
: With the swinging strike rate down, I don’t believe 100%. I think he’ll be top 20 this year, and I might sell in a keeper if I was rebuilding.
|
10:13 |
Is it time (or past time) to start trying to get any value for Cingrani? I’m sure Dusty loved Leake’s start last night. |
10:14 |
: Past time. With one pitch and a full rotation…
|
10:14 |
how much longer do I give Middlebrooks to stop sucking? |
10:14 |
: He’s always going to have a bad BA.
|
10:14 |
Thoguhts on Lynn (walks) and Niese (died) ROS? |
10:14 |
: Like Lynn much more than Niese. Niese, to me, has averageish stuff that he plays up with great control and staying down in the zone. This year, his BB% is way up, and I’m worried for him. True talent 4/1.3 kinda guy anyway.
|
10:15 |
WHo do you like to spot-start for Price-Odorizzi or Archer? Any chance either of them sticks or has deep league value this season? |
10:15 |
: Fantasy owners hope it’s Archer because he has way more upside. Sticking means Price is injured.
|
10:15 |
when you get benched for jose tabata for “lack of power” that’s a bad sign |
10:15 |
: agreed
|
10:15 |
You have seen Airplane right? |
10:15 |
: Yes, but it matters what was in MY head.
|
10:15 |
: And I was singing Modest Mouse.
|
10:15 |
Eno, you don’t know anything about me. Should I move to a different country? |
10:16 |
: Well, see this is why I ask for details about your league settings.
|
10:16 |
Just spent the last 15 minutes peppering that hoser Klaw with “Hey Eno!” questions. You’re. Welcome. |
10:16 |
: Oh god. Sorry Keith. Wonder if he’ll tell me about it.
|
10:16 |
What is Rizzo’s ADP for 2014? |
10:16 |
: 20s?
|
10:16 |
Did Segura and Gomez break into Brauns steroid stash or is Miller Park just a joke? Seems like the Brewers whole team is slugging .500 or better |
10:17 |
: Segura is getting a little help from pitchers. True talent league average ISO or worse.
|
10:17 |
Some beers are made into mediocrity, some beers achieve mediocrity, and some beers have mediocrity thrust upon them. |
10:17 |
12 team roto keeper league. Would you trade Scherzer for Pujols? I have a staff of Harvey, Anibal, Scherzer, Kennedy, Cahill and Beachy on DL. Scherzer would be $18 keeper next year, Pujols $35. I feel crazy for not jumping on this but Pujols injuries are holding me up. |
10:18 |
: I’m probably in the minority, but I would if they threw in a $1 pitcher and you gave them your first baseman. You may get no keepers out of one keeper, but Scherzer is not a great keeper for me in a keep-six, keep-ten situation. Even in dynasty. I see injuries coming.
|
10:19 |
If you had a draft today, what round do you think Carl Crawford goes |
10:19 |
: fourth/fifth?
|
10:19 |
Any concern over Greinke’s drop in velocity? http://www.fangraphs.com/pitchfxo.aspx?playerid=1943&position=P&pitch=FA |
10:20 |
: I love his park and matchups situation, so not a worry for me this year. But for keeper status, yeah a bit.
|
10:20 |
I think the Simba nickname probably came from Chipper Jones. He gave out other notable nicknames like “RoadRunner” for Juan Francisco, “Rev” for Tyler Pastornicky, “Raw Dog” for Brooks Conrad, all while coining awesome HR slang words like Yicketty and Mammo. |
10:20 |
: He said it was a minor league coach, but does sound a bit like Chip.
|
10:20 |
If Jim Hunter never got his cool nickname, would he have made HOF? |
10:20 |
: Important question.
|
10:20 |
SMore like Sierra Nevada Poop |
10:20 |
: That’s going a bit far.
|
10:20 |
Is Rosenthal stuck as the 8th inning guy for good, or do you think he transitions back to starting some time down the road? |
10:21 |
: I think he could close this year. Mujica is throwing 64% splitters and that worries me. Terrible called strike ratio, so he has to be ahead all the time. Which he might be able to do, but it seems like a bad idea.
|
10:21 |
: V-Mart at shortstop?
|
10:21 |
If Bud Selig were to wiretap someone or something related to baseball….who would he wiretap? |
10:22 |
: Loria. Definitley Loria.
|
10:22 |
Don’t say things about Halladay being done. It makes me sad and I don’t want to cry in the office today. Again. It’s only 10. |
10:22 |
: I’m sorry, but 35+ year olds that go on the DL for shoulder injuries… it’s not good. Sorry to Ted Lilly fans too.
|
10:22 |
Pick 2 MI options: Gyorko, Drew, Aybar, Alexei |
10:22 |
: Gyorko and… I’ll probably get this wrong wrt to my rankings this afternoon, but Sexei?
|
10:23 |
Hosmer is currently .250/1/2. Why do you think he’ll improve? |
10:23 |
: I don’t look at those numbers.
|
10:23 |
This chat needs MUPPPETS!!!!!!! |
10:23 |
: Where are they?
|
10:23 |
Is it possible to punt HRs and win a league? |
10:23 |
: No because HRs make RBIS and Rs.
|
10:24 |
Need pitching but don’t have ton of hitting depth either. Damn the torpedos and trade Ellsbury for Greinke anyway? |
10:24 |
: Work the wire for pitching.
|
10:24 |
Pants are great. ‘Not wearing pants’ is the new ‘bacon is awesome’. So overdone. |
10:24 |
: Pants are useful when cooking, especially frying.
|
10:24 |
: But otherwise, still overrated.
|
10:25 |
NO MORE CAPS (less cats) |
10:25 |
Wiat, poor punctuation… NO, MORE CAPS (less cats) |
10:25 |
: Well make up your mind then.
|
10:25 |
Ackley or Espinosa as a bench spot ROS? |
10:25 |
: Espinosa.
|
10:25 |
We’re all just doing the cockroach, man. |
10:25 |
I don’t know how these chats always devolve into me defending Sierra Nevada….It’d be like ardently defending Angel Pagan in fantasy chats |
10:25 |
when i was unemployed i consistently woke up partway into online chats that started at noon and would be sad. then i figured out that part of the reason i was unemployed was that i was scheduling sleep around online chats instead of, you know, doing worky things |
10:25 |
: damn the worky things interlude
|
10:25 |
Lester or Shark ROS? |
10:25 |
: Shark
|
10:25 |
FAMILY LOVE BASEBALL |
10:25 |
: Rank em?
|
10:26 |
does beer WAR incorporate bottle/can/draught adjustment into the equation, or are different deliveries treated as different drinks? |
10:26 |
: Really, really want to do this. Really, really difficult.
|
10:26 |
What do you make of Dan Straily’s slow start in mlb despite the continued dominance at AAA? |
10:27 |
: Never had a good fastball. Velocity lept forward at one point, and receded a bit. Not a big believer.
|
10:27 |
Do you ever deal a superstar for two good players? I know that’s kind of theoretical. But it seems like a good idea that never works out, no? |
10:29 |
: Once you get to onlies and 20-teamers, it can work out. I’m starting Robbie Grossman in AL-LABR. If someone gave me Coco Crisp and Brett Gardner for Adam Jones, it might make sense to me. I need SBs. Just a thought. Deep leagues make depth trades more palatable.
|
10:29 |
Trade Profar for Stanton in my keeper…what do you think? |
10:29 |
: Sure
|
10:29 |
Ive noticed that Josh Rutledge bats 2nd or 8th Every game. Im convinced that Walt Weiss actually knows about optimal lineup construction, he just cant decide if Rut is the best player or the worst player on the team. |
10:30 |
: Rut Rut looks like either from game to game.
|
10:30 |
Is Hellickson somebody I should be thinking about dropping in a 14 team non-keeper? |
10:30 |
: No, I like some of what he’s doing.
|
10:30 |
i didnt feel good about middlebroooks goign into the season and traded him for tajiun walker. at the time i felt dumb but how do i look now? (keeper) |
10:30 |
: Wish you’d gotten a bit more. Walker has less than 50% chance of hitting.
|
10:30 |
fair deal? lawrie for segura (keeper league)? |
10:31 |
: Fairish. I’ll take Segura there, as much as I like Lawrie.
|
10:31 |
How do you value Cingrani for the rest of the year? |
10:31 |
: Impossible to know IP.
|
10:31 |
Arenado ROS projections? top what 3B ROS? |
10:31 |
: Ranks just came out. I had him 17, consensus 16.
|
10:32 |
We need to know in the name of LUCAS DUDA who the handles you know are! WE THE PEOPLE! |
10:32 |
: Well then there are the people I might know on line, but can’t know if I know.
|
10:32 |
sell high on Tillman, right? This is coming from an O’s fan |
10:32 |
: I think so.
|
10:32 |
But Travis Snider has had a couple HRs robbed defensively and some booming doubles. |
10:33 |
: And power takes forever to stablize. But he’s got like a career .400 slugging percentage and at some point…
|
10:33 |
should have listened to you on cingrani and sold him after his first couple starts… got greedy and now i cant get anything for him. Hold onto him or just git rid of him and be happy for the points (head to head points league) he has given me to this point? |
10:33 |
: Hold until they really say what’s up.
|
10:33 |
Trade Gausmann and Odorizzi for Archie Bradley in dynasty keeper pts league? Just got an offer. |
10:33 |
: Nah, keep the quantity.
|
10:33 |
10-team, 5×5, H2H. There are tons of mediocre 1Bs available in my league: Hosmer, Moreland, Morneau, Loney, Carter, Morales, Ike, Belt and Alonso. Ride one of them or stream from week-2-week? |
10:34 |
: I’d own Hoz if i owned one, but Moreland at home is good. Maybe two. Moreland and Hoz. Play moreland v rhp, hold Hoz for upside.
|
10:34 |
is there any better way to encourage intelligent responses to rankings? the 3B rankings had someone who asked how JZ could rate lawrie over machado, then JZ gave his exact projections for both, then the guy responded “well i think machado gets more ABs than that”. I don’t have any real ideas, but it seems like every response is just “i don’t think that’s right and i don’t really care why you do”. |
10:34 |
: That was a decent exchange actually. At least we know why the rankings are different for those two people now!
|
10:35 |
Jaime Garcia a must start at home? |
10:35 |
: Yes.
|
10:35 |
and people laughed when i traded felix for rizzo and a high draft pick this offseason. is this where i wag genitals? i’m new to this |
10:35 |
: lol
|
10:35 |
Al Albuquerque got sent to AAA. 🙁 Not cool man. I feel like Crazy Amy after a dinner service right now. |
10:35 |
: Doesn’t make sense to me either.
|
10:35 |
: OH wait I see something happening here.
|
10:35 |
: Must be time for

Trade A Gordon for Harvey? |
With a phone full of pictures of pitchers' fingers, strange beers, and his two toddler sons, Eno Sarris can be found at the ballpark or a brewery most days. Read him here, writing about the A's or Giants at The Athletic, or about beer at October. Follow him on Twitter @enosarris if you can handle the sandwiches and inanity.
What’s with Desmond Jennings? Is he a slow starter, or just not as good as when he had the prospect hype?
I am that guy today. Dammit.
It’s okay. He might actually only be a .250-.260 hitter, but even if you scale out what he’s doing, he could be a 15/30 guy this year. I think better years are coming, at some point.
