Comment From hoohaIf you’re here chatting today, does that mean tomorrow is Friday?
12:00 |
Comment From CJNick Ahmed: .292/.349/.482 since May 12. Does he keep it up?
12:01 |
Eno Sarris: No, I don’t think so. Not a great bat.
12:01 |
Comment From Help PleaseIf you had to keep one for next season, do you choose Grandal or Mesoraco?
12:01 |
Comment From zackleftypDonaldson or Abreu ROS for a standard league UTIL spot?
12:02 |
Comment From KBBetter ROS Production: Marlon Byrd or Carlos Santana?
12:02 |
Comment From Jimmy 4 PresidentWhat do you expect rest of the year for Jimmy Nelson?
12:02 |
Eno Sarris: Good games and then blow up games when his command leaves him.
12:02 |
Comment From SamEno, I have AJ Griffin and Marco Gonzales clogging up valuable roster space. Will either of them make an impact this year?
12:03 |
Eno Sarris: Marco’s probably after Jaime Garcia, who always gets injured. AJ I see in the clubhouse some, so he’s on his way back, and the team doesn’t seem to really value Jesse Chavez as a starter. So: yes.
12:04 |
Comment From CJBetter waiver wire pickup: Nick Ahmed or Eugenio Suarez?
12:04 |
Comment From el coffeeeno, great article on polanco…i read this stat recently: olanco is batting .294/.400/.455 in at-bats where the first pitch is a ball, and he is batting .185/.222/.246 in at-bats where he sees a first pitch strike. At this stage, Polanco simply cannot afford to get behind in the count this consistently.
12:05 |
Eno Sarris: The league split on those is pretty drastic, too, though. I wish Polanco could Reddick, but even though I called the article about Reddick “The Simplicity,” it’s not that easy for a young guy to just start spitting on that outside pitch.
12:05 |
Comment From el coffeeis the key simply to be more aggressive on first pitch for polanco?
12:05 |
Eno Sarris: Not if it’s a sinker away from a lefty.
12:05 |
Comment From Marathon BarWhat do you think of the long term outlook for Ruby De La Rosa?
12:06 |
Eno Sarris: I wouldn’t be surprised if another injury derails him right in the middle of his best stretch, I wouldn’t sink many resources into his future. I’m cautiously holding, but not buying.
12:06 |
Comment From zackleftypAre you high or low on Carlos Rodon’s ROS projections?
12:07 |
Eno Sarris: I didn’t necessarily think he would show command that was this poor, but the projection systems believe it will be. I’d like another few starts before I totally believe it, but you need to have plus command if you don’t have a changeup from the left side, IMO.
12:08 |
Comment From IraHas your outlook on Mike Montgomery’s ceiling changed ffollowing the last two outings? What’s resonable to expect moving forward. Does he have the makeup and stuff to be a #2? #3?
12:09 |
Eno Sarris: His changeup is legit and was always. His curve is good/average to better. Has there been a velocity boost? Because he’s now at average or better velocity, and the fastballs are looking decent. I’m buying, especially in that park.
12:09 |
Comment From HouzerEno! Need to fill a Util RoS. Can you rank these guys- Hosmer / Grichuk / Mooreland / Soler?
12:10 |
Eno Sarris: Hosmer I guess but my heart says Soler. Moreland comfortable third, but in the same tier. ……………………………………………………… Grichuk over here.
12:10 |
Comment From Bubba StarlingHeaney or Corbin ROS?
12:10 |
Comment From RobWill Giolito have a spot on the Nats rotation next opening day?
12:10 |
Comment From HouzerMatt Moore is back this week- take him over Matz?
12:11 |
Comment From John StamosHow often, if ever, do you play DFB?
12:12 |
Eno Sarris: Couple of times a week for TOUT. I might not do it if not for TOUT. I’ve got 15 leagues and not enough time to research daily matchups like that. I don’t mind DFS at all though.
12:12 |
Comment From AnI’m really worried about Cueto down the road. Do you think it’s best to sell now in a 12 team/ Keep 12/H2H
12:12 |
Eno Sarris: Yeah I do think so. He’s injury prone. If you’re not in it, he’s a great piece to sell.
12:13 |
Comment From Good WoodTrade Moss and Desmond for Encarnacion? Don’t have a great backup SS option, but Desmond hasn’t been great. Moss has been my CI, and EE would take over that spot
12:13 |
Eno Sarris: If you can pick up a guy like Xander Bogaerts, maybe even use the extra spot to pick up Kang or even Segura depending on your league size… I like it.
12:14 |
Comment From rustydudewhat year do you predict Mike Trout will put up a WAR under 8?
12:14 |
Eno Sarris: The year he tears a hammy.
12:14 |
Comment From TonyJason Kipnis true talent: 290/370/450 if he can carry a 330 babip?
12:15 |
Eno Sarris: It’s not far from his rest of season projections and I like it. Small approach change plus great talent is really working for him. Even with that weird setup at the plate.
12:15 |
Comment From Walk With MeWhat are the odds Caminero gets a chance to close for Pittsburgh this year? Only if there’s an injury or implosion to Melancon?
12:16 |
Eno Sarris: Melancon is slowly pushing that velocity up, surprisingly, and has been effective throughout. But I still think he’s allowing too many balls in play for a closer and that Caminero has like a 10% chance of closing this year still.
12:16 |
Comment From Art VandelayMy Nelson Cruz for his Puig and Wieters (I was weak at catcher)
12:16 |
Comment From TonyBrantley isn’t showing much power… Think he settles as a 310/370/440 guy?
12:18 |
Eno Sarris: He’s still pulling the ball as much as he did in his breakout year, and the ISO is still ahead of career level. I wouldn’t be surprised if he pushes the slugging to more of a .450/.460 level, but we’re not talking a big deal here. Just a really good player who will hit 10-15 homers annually.
12:18 |
Comment From Good WoodAll of the Cubs “closers” are on the wire. Who you picking up?
12:18 |
Eno Sarris: This probably deserves more study, but I’ve read some, and I’ve analyzed a lot of these guys in different moments, and I’ll sadly pick up Motte because he got the last one, but I believe mostly in Strop of the group, because he has one of the best sliders in the game, velocity, and the Ks.
12:19 |
Comment From jameswhy is chi chi so highly thought of when his stuff seems to be so mediocre
12:20 |
Eno Sarris: I can’t figure it out either really. It’s all vertical, with very little side-to-side movement, which usually gets you the grounders. If he can push the grounder rate to 55%, he can live with 5-6 K9 maybe, but he’s not really doing that right now.
12:20 |
Comment From Minnesota FatsEno, I got a fatty liver and can’t drink anymore. But I loves The Beer so much. What are some good non-alcoholic beers you can recommend so i don’t fall off the wagon and faux gras myself to death?
12:21 |
Eno Sarris: Damn let me try and remember what we did when wife was pregnant. I think St. Pauli girl NA was decent. I’d try the Germans.
12:21 |
Comment From rustydudeYou see Delino DeShields taking over for Leonys Martin?
12:23 |
Eno Sarris: Woof. My impression of what Martin was doing recently >>> what he’s actually been doing. That said, RoS projections for Martin >>>>>>>>> Deshields. I don’t think he’s going to lose his job outright. L/R platoon maybe.
12:24 |
Comment From BearIs it time to cut bait on Semien, or is some of that early season magic coming back?
12:25 |
Eno Sarris: What he has done before he can do again, I think. A month long power outage is not enough for me to cut him.
12:25 |
Comment From MarichalPeavy or Corbin?
12:25 |
Comment From Josh GBetter ROS 5×5: LeMahieu or Pillar?
12:26 |
Comment From GSonkluber/Bauer/Carrasco/Salazar/Anderson: Is there a better young starting five in all of baseball?.. shouldn’t the Indians record be way better than it is?
12:26 |
Eno Sarris: Defense matters!
12:26 |
Comment From Art VandelayGeraldo Rivera, noted hip-hop enthusiast, claims that rap music is the real oppressor of black people. Thoughts?
12:27 |
Eno Sarris: Geraldo Rivera, noted economist, needs to take a look at gerrymandering, city planning, public school funding policies, and incarceration rates due to drugs and minor crimes before he opens his mouth again.
12:28 |
Comment From Josh GDoes Mike Montgomery stick in the rotation when Iwakuma returns?
12:28 |
Eno Sarris: It’s him vs Elias since they both have options. Elias is so… blah though.
12:28 |
Comment From Dr JohnIn a Vacuum – Rizzo/Desmond or McCuthen/Betts
12:29 |
Eno Sarris: Oh man I love Betts and I love Rizzo and I hate Desmond so I guess Cutch side, even though you lose some homers.
12:29 |
Comment From DanI have N.Waler as my 2b for 12 team h2h. Would you drop him for Valbuena, Lawrie, Peterson or Holt?
12:29 |
Comment From Pale Hose“One Eno” is a palindrome
12:29 |
Eno Sarris: One of my Yahoo names is OneDamEno which is not a palindrome but is based on this truth.
12:30 |
Comment From TonyHad been looking forward to a Reddick article. Think he’s a guy who should beat his RoS projections (260/320/440)?
12:30 |
Eno Sarris: With that new K rate, sure.
12:30 |
Comment From EskinHow many homers does Brantley finish with?
12:30 |
Comment From Josh GCan Sabathia really continue to post an ERA 2 full runs above his SIERA?
12:31 |
Eno Sarris: Bad fastball guy still throwing his fastball to righties, and they are spanking it. Hard to rec that guy.
12:31 |
Comment From EskinBuying on Chad Bettis? I don’t see why anyone wouldn’t be
12:32 |
Eno Sarris: His best pitch is a curveball, and curves drop less in Colorado, so yeah there’s some reason to be suspicious of a below-average fastball and curve in that park.
12:32 |
Comment From AJ PrellerI need a shortstop. Got any ideas?
12:32 |
Eno Sarris: Empty the cupboard for Troy?
12:32 |
Comment From Pale HoseRequest: More selfie stick videos.
12:32 |
Eno Sarris: DUDE IT’S A MONOPOD
12:33 |
Eno Sarris: (I know it’s a selfie stick lol. Catch me on 120 sports, and today I did video work for a piece on a submarine riseball….)
12:33 |
Comment From XoloBetter RoS: Andrew Cashner or Tyson Ross?
12:34 |
Eno Sarris: Love this one. Ross is getting too predictable, but has the Ks at least. Cashner has the Ks, but giving up homers in order to get the Ks. Ross’ slider is >>>>>> Cashner’s secondary pitches, but Cash’s fastballs should be ahead of Ross’. I’ll take Ross.
12:34 |
Comment From WobatusShould the Mets call up Conforto?
12:35 |
Eno Sarris: He hasn’t been lighting Double-A on fire… I might try to wait a bit.
12:35 |
Comment From MikeEno, Chris Sale is probably not being traded, but does an offer of Hutchison, Norris, Pompey, and whatever high end lottery tickets (2 total) get anyone’s attention?
12:36 |
Eno Sarris: Maybe. The nice thing there is the opportunity to maybe thicken up that pitching staff and get another bat. It doesn’t strike me as terrible, but also not going to happen.
12:36 |
Comment From zackleftypCan’t believe I’m asking this but is Rougned Odor a better ROS option than Kinsler or Kendrick?
12:38 |
Eno Sarris: Kinsler has to leave this oppo approach behind, right. RIGHT? RIGHT? sigh. I’ll still put Odor third.
12:38 |
Comment From Josh GAny reason to be excited with Taylor Jungmann going forward?
12:38 |
Eno Sarris: No not really
12:38 |
Comment From EskinWhat will it take for people to feel good about Ubaldo’s control?
12:38 |
Eno Sarris: That thing from Men in Black with the light and the memory and all that
12:38 |
Comment From EskinBolsinger looking like he can put up a 3.30 ERA rest of the way
12:39 |
Eno Sarris: I’m worried that batters will pick up the fact that his slider comes from a different slot. Then he’s a two-pitch guy again.
12:39 |
Comment From RockyHow do you feel about McHugh in a 12 teamer?
12:39 |
Eno Sarris: Bad fastball.
12:39 |
Comment From Pale HoseHow much prep work do you put into your player interviews? Do unexpected things come up organically?
12:41 |
Eno Sarris: I want to do much more. But life is nuts, and I have tons of crap to do. I spend a couple hours prepping for the clubhouse, but you really could prep forever. Definitely long threads come from little things. Like I just asked a reliever on the Mariners why his four-seam had so much cut and then I discovered the off-set four-seam cut fastball and that unraveled the difference between the risky cutter and the less risky cut fastball.
12:41 |
Comment From Keeper? I hardly know herWhat do you do in leagues where you have multiple players who are not active? This is a long-term dynasty to narrow it down.
12:42 |
Eno Sarris: A short deadline in the offseason for people to check back in. October 15, tell me you’re in! Hopefully they aren’t in. Replace quickly with vetted people that are interested.
12:42 |
Comment From Art VandelayI find it interesting with the Dipoto thing coming out, lots of sources claiming that most of the big moves the Angels made (Napoli, Hamilton, Wilson) were not even made by Dipoto, but by Moreno. Do you think that’s true, or is Dipoto trying to pad his resume a little?
12:43 |
Eno Sarris: I think this sort of thing is true and is very hard to uncover. David Wright, not trading Jose Reyes… Granderson? I’d say at least two of these three were done by the Wilpons.
12:43 |
Comment From sporedawgHey KileY!! Thoughts on Chaz Palminteri?
12:43 |
Comment From hscerThe Nats have both a JZ and a DRE.
12:44 |
Comment From The Oriole BirdWhat have you done with Mr. Cameron?
12:44 |
Eno Sarris: Luded the staff.
12:44 |
Comment From AlexAck, no I have to go to work but my question hasn’t been answered!! I’ll leave it here a second time and hope I can check it on break: My Matt Carpenter & Leake or Chase Anderson for Jake Arrieta and Nick Castellanos in a 20 teamer. Fair or no? Have a fantastic rest of your day Eno!
12:44 |
Eno Sarris: It’s okay. As long as it’s not OBP.
12:44 |
Comment From BearJD Martinez.
12:44 |
Comment From The Oriole BirdPlease explain The Ubaldo Jimenez in two sentences or fewer.
12:45 |
Eno Sarris: Switched back to the sinker, which he commands better than other pitches, and is ahead enough to use the splitter effectively.
12:45 |
Comment From Josh GYou all in on Buchholz yet?
12:45 |
Eno Sarris: Sigh. Guess so. New change is really looking good.
12:45 |
Comment From TantoCan I drop my Boxberger insurance share of McGee?
12:45 |
Eno Sarris: Box will get more saves. But maybe only like five.
12:45 |
Comment From AndyOf the Braves rotating rookies in the #4/#5 slots (Perez, Wisler, Folty and soon Banuelos), who will have the most value ROS?
12:46 |
Eno Sarris: Folty. Best stuff. Perez might be second on the basis of one pitch, that nice sinker.
12:46 |
Comment From TantoThoughts on Martin Perez?
12:46 |
Eno Sarris: Never been a fan.
12:46 |
Comment From kevinthecomicapparently castillo is getting called up and hanley going to the DL — any chance rusney doesn’t suck this time around?
12:47 |
Eno Sarris: There’s a chance of everything now that they’ve sent Rusney down repeatedly this year. 60% grounders really takes the shine off his power upside and makes him look much more like a fourth OF.
12:47 |
Comment From Ringtone ComposerWhat is Trackman? I understand it’s some sort of doppler system… but, what does that mean, really?
12:48 |
Eno Sarris: I don’t actually know how the technology is different, but it is, at least in some ways, slightly more effective than PITCHf/x. It can observe the ball leaving the hand quicker, and it can observe spin rate without calculating it, for two.
12:48 |
Comment From Orioles player "development"Is Dylan Bundy ever going to have a meaningful major league career? This is three full years now, more or less, lost to injury. Next year he’s out of options and has to be on the MLB roster, so…is he a sneaky pickup now as the twelfth man in a fantasy keeper league where we keep 12?
12:48 |
Eno Sarris: Too much risk.
12:48 |
Comment From RustyMontgomery over Chavez?
12:49 |
Eno Sarris: Both can lose their jobs soon. Chavez fastball maybe a little better, Montgomery change better. I’ll take the younger guy that the team traded for recently over the journeyman up and down guy.
12:49 |
Comment From JayDawgOne spot left for a pitcher. Kimbrel just got dropped, my worst SP is Gio. Do I drop Gio for Kimbrel?
12:49 |
Comment From EskinMatz must own in 12-team?
12:49 |
Comment From E-yesWhat to Duda with Duda?
12:49 |
Eno Sarris: Use in util, sit against lefties, enjoy.
12:49 |
Comment From klibbajdon’t care if you don’t believe in Robbie Ray I believe in Robbie Ray.
12:50 |
Eno Sarris: Well he does exist.
12:51 |
Eno Sarris: All I’m saying about Ray is this: His best non fastball is supposed to be the change, but his change has less horizontal movement, less vertical movement, and less velocity gap to his fastball than your average changeup, and all of those things are even worse if you compare them to lefty changeups. Also, it gets half the whiffs of an average changeup. Also, he has bad command.
12:52 |
Comment From PatWhat are your thoughts on Cody Anderson? I know the Ks haven’t been there yet, but is there anything there or just ride the streak?
12:53 |
Eno Sarris: Looks like a plus changeup, a usable/average slider, and decent velocity and command. The only thing I don’t get is that he’s put up some mediocre minor league numbers.
12:53 |
Comment From MattDo you know of any change in approach from Jesse Hahn? His K% and SwStr% are way down, but he’s generating a lot of weak contact and remains a productive pitcher.
12:53 |
Eno Sarris: Yeah he’s throwing that changeup a ton more, and it’s getting a lot of grounders but not a ton of whiffs. He tells me the whiffs are coming, but I still like him as a safe pitcher.
12:54 |
Comment From StrassenbahnEno it’s forty freaking degrees celsius over here in Germany today, but the trams DON’T HAVE AIR CONDITIONING. Talk to your people.
12:54 |
Eno Sarris: You’re supposed to get the day off when that happens. The schools do!
12:54 |
Comment From EskinWho cares about backup SS in fantasy?
12:55 |
Eno Sarris: I don’t normally, but if I’m going to have a bench piece, I want it to have upside and play my weakest position.
12:55 |
Comment From Bander XogaertsGetting more and more excited about XB by the day. Those doubles gonna start turning into dingbingz…. and by dingbingz and mean dongers…..
12:55 |
Eno Sarris: Jack em Xander
12:55 |
Comment From BrenThe article on Marlon Byrd/JustinTurner awhile back was fantastic. Could you see this approach becoming the knuckleball for hitters, where players at a cross-roads or on the downside give it a shot to save or prolong their careers?
12:56 |
Eno Sarris: It’s *basically* selling out for power. I think you have to at least start out thinking you’ll spray the ball and hit to every field for power. Because the very very very best do that. But if you figure out you’re not going to be that guy, you might as well give this a shot. As Charlie Blackmon told me last night, “Pulling the ball is the best way to get hits because you hit the ball harder.”
12:57 |
Comment From Pale HoseChats ranked by silliness: Eno, Szymborski, Swydan/Zimmerman, Sullivan, Kiley, Cameron.
12:57 |
Comment From rustydudeDaz is almost as cool a name as Eno
12:57 |
Comment From Andrew Garfieldalso lol Angels how do you choose Scoscia over your GM
12:57 |
Comment From Good WoodYou don’t like Grichuk? Yeah lots of Ks, but has been crushing it. Plus Cardinals devil magic. How does he compare to Michael Taylor?
12:59 |
Eno Sarris: 30% Ks and .370 BABIP is a combo I have to see in a larger sample before I believe it. Taylor seems like a decent comp, but he steals more bases.
1:00 |
Comment From Josh GDrop Starlin Castro for Matt Duffy? Castro has 14th worse wRC+ in baseball.
1:00 |
Eno Sarris: RoS still favors Castro (.280/7/6 to .260/5/5), and with Duffy’s power history, I think you have to wait.
1:00 |
Comment From zackleftypWord is that the Jays may look to stick Aaron Sanchez in the ‘pen when he returns. Any chance he takes over at closer by the end of the year?
1:00 |
Eno Sarris: I like Osuna best but Sanchez would probably rank ahead of Cecil.
1:01 |
Comment From EskinMotte 1, Rondon 2, Strop 3
1:01 |
Eno Sarris: But Motte isn’t getting any swinging strikes or strikeouts even.
1:01 |
Comment From jonAny thoughts about Julio Urias? Just trade for his minors rights in 12-team league where we keep fiveminors players. Highest upside SP in the minors right now?
1:01 |
Eno Sarris: Giolito closer and could be better.
1:02 |
Comment From jonThoughts on Daniel Norris as a minors keeper asset? Long-term #2 SP?
1:03 |
Eno Sarris: 3/4? The command worries me, but there’s some decent stuff there.
1:03 |
Comment From Hey BubbddbHey swstrk pliny the topper grips lude uhhh ENO POST

Comment From ShubblesOver/under: my winky or my stinky?

1:03 |
Comment From EskinJust want to point out that Dom Brown has a 6.7 LD%.
1:03 |
Comment From Kelvinn CraggIncidentally and planed pronatedly the buttress of the ball is fervid?
1:03 |
Eno Sarris: You guys are amazing!
1:03 |
Comment From L. ScottWhich of these miserably struggling players will have the best ROS: Robinson Cano, Ian Desmond, or J. Lucroy?
1:04 |
Eno Sarris: Lucroy. Smallest sample of suck.
1:04 |
Comment From vivalajeteryikes, my last question was cut off. But essentially, which Mets pitcher would you give up 1:1 for Boegarts? Would you give up Harvey or deGrom? Or only the newer guys (Thor/Matz), or none? When I asked Paul from a Sox-fan perspective, he said he wouldn’t trade Bogaerts for any of them.
1:04 |
Eno Sarris: Pitching-starved Red Sox wouldn’t trade Bogaerts for Harvey or deGrom? Really? Hm. They traded Hanley once….
1:05 |
Comment From Cory S.Thoughts on Heaney as a post-hype sleeper-type? He is throwing harder this year.
1:05 |
Eno Sarris: Yeah I like his stuff on paper. When I watched… I couldn’t see the change that well. Still, good mechanics, command, decent stuff.
1:06 |
Comment From jonWho are your favorite longer-term fantasy prospects still currently in the minors? 1-3 years away.
1:07 |
Eno Sarris: Is there anyone still left down there? I guess I like Nomar Mazara a ton. Giolito looks pretty nasty.
1:07 |
Comment From Et Tu, Brute?I smoked a bowl and picked up Joe Kelly off the waiver wire
1:07 |
Eno Sarris: Gotta peruse the waiver wire before the bowl.
1:08 |
Comment From EskinHow do you value category specialists in H2H? Is balanced production more balanced than, say, a Ben Revere? You can only get 1 win for a category, winning 10-2 does not help
1:09 |
Eno Sarris: Yeah I think they lose value at the top of the rankings. But Revere lives near the back of the rankings, and he might actually have more value. think of a Revere/Carter platoon in your util. You’d have a ton of flexibility to change course late in the week.
1:09 |
Comment From EskinWhat do you think of the strategy in which owners go all pitching early and then just try to win SBs and win 6-4 every week?
1:09 |
Eno Sarris: Razor thin margin there. Too easy to lose. I favor punting one category, and usually saves or steals since they are the least correlated with other stats.
1:10 |
Comment From eNO cLAPPERContinue to hold the execrable Ian Demond in 10-teamers or OKAY TO DROP CITY
1:10 |
Eno Sarris: I’d like to see your options but he’s not stealing so he’s basically a .250/10HR guy RoS.
1:10 |
Comment From El guapoSample is still small but Verlander’s velo decline continues (avg. FB is below last year). Can he learn to use the rest of his arsenal to be effective or does the decline to oblivion continue?
1:11 |
Eno Sarris: The news is terrible. He said he fixed his slider on rehab, and it’s changed a bit, and it’s getting 4% whiffs now. It used to be his best pitch once upon a time and it’s getting 4% whiffs now.

Comment From KlezmaCorbin or the gaping maw of indecision and sadness?
1:11 |
Eno Sarris: Okay Corbin here.
1:11 |
Comment From Good WoodMatt Cain is coming back. Think he’s worth taking a shot on?
1:11 |
Eno Sarris: 15+ teamers for sure. Could at least be a home play bench guy.
1:11 |
Comment From DannyHas Nick Martinez gotten better this year or is his xFIP more indicative of his performance?
1:11 |
Eno Sarris: I don’t believe.
1:12 |
Comment From STiVoWhen you speak with a German, are you consciously thinking in English and translating in real-time, or is it different than that?
1:12 |
Eno Sarris: I have to think in German or I’d talk really slowly. But then I sub English words for the vocab I don’t know.
1:12 |
Comment From Eldridge CleaverWill Puig ever breakout and what does that look like?
1:13 |
Eno Sarris: One year Yasiel Puig will hit .300 with 30+ homers and 10+ steals.
1:13 |
Comment From IlanIs Marte the new Gomez?
1:13 |
Eno Sarris: Ooh I like that. Decent way to encapsulate his risk and upside in one comp.
1:13 |
Comment From DannyBest pitcher today: Lester or Carrasco?
1:14 |
Comment From hscerI miss the old days where my rambling idiocy could break into the chat 10+ times. Go away, people!
1:14 |
Comment From Ham+puffsIn a 30 man roster league I have, and this is stupid, I know.
1:14 |
Comment From Ringtone ComposerCrisis averted, Eno. The local distributor of Grapefruit Sculpin in northern Virginia seems to have seriously restocked! I can’t think of a better use of my $16.99. (How much does a sixer cost in Cali?)
1:14 |
Comment From Darth StoutDay baseball!
1:15 |
Comment From PlanalpWhen will Sano arrive?
1:16 |
Eno Sarris: They were talking about him being close and just needing consistency. Twins need a jolt to stay near the top. He’s better than Vargas now… soon?
1:16 |
Comment From Matty PHi Eno. Is this what Wilmer Flores is, or do you see him hitting for a higher avg at some point? He looked like he had a better bat in the minors
1:17 |
Eno Sarris: He’s making decent contact with league average power but hitting way too many pop ups. Gotta iron that out. I think he could maybe .260/.300/.400 still… at second base.
1:17 |
Comment From Eldridge CleaverGo Hang A Salami, I’m a Lasagna Hog!
1:18 |
Comment From Umm wutWhat is this Polanco article being referenced? I’m not seeing it on FG.
1:18 |
Comment From CookieNew kid on the way. If boy, wife wants to name him Egbert after her grandfather THIS IS NOT A JOKE. How do I talk ‘er down?
1:18 |
Eno Sarris: Give her the middle name.
1:18 |
Comment From JBDI wonder what it’s like to live in Greece right now. I mean, I don’t want to experience it… but I just wonder.
1:19 |
Eno Sarris: Isn’t Puerto Rico having a big debt problem, too? Crazy times.
1:19 |
Comment From kidGive up Votto and Kemp to get either Rizzo or Adam Jones?
1:19 |
Eno Sarris: RIZZZXOXOXOXOXOX
1:19 |
Comment From TristamIf the A’s can get to within 5GB by the deadline, are they still sellers?
1:19 |
Eno Sarris: They’ll sell and buy at the same time, those crazy cats.
1:20 |
Comment From ChaunceyDoes Jack Z get the boot if: A) the Mariners finish under .500, B) the Mariners miss the playoffs but still finish above .500, or C) he’s not going anywhere because he’s going to tell ownership it’s actually an 8 year plan
1:20 |
Eno Sarris: A) Yes, has to, no? They were building towards something and then that happens? B) Maybe, see A) but at least he can point to something.
1:21 |
Comment From DannyCan Pitch Type Values be predictive for hitter/pitcher matchups? i.e. pitcher throws a lot of changeups, Trout kills changeups, Trout does well.
1:23 |
Eno Sarris: Those values are a little scary to use for me. Because they only record what happened on that pitch, and they ignore what happened before. So Dickey’s pitch type value on the fastball is high, because of his knuckler. But for hitters, I think it’s a decent way to scan the FG page and get a good sense of what might happen. WAY better than batter v pitcher.

Comment From GuestHow much longer do the Cardinals need to keep pitching at a historic rate until Fangraphs has an article about it?
1:23 |
Eno Sarris: Pretty sure Craig would love to write about it
1:24 |
Comment From TonyReally like hearing you talk to players like Martinez about their adjustments. Kiermaier seems like an interesting one. Think he can get up to 270 with average power?
1:25 |
Eno Sarris: I really like him. I wish he’d walk more, but I believe in everything he’s doing right now, and there’s still a little hope for his batting average and OBP.
1:25 |
Comment From Kiley SchmileyKiley said in his chat yesterday that Jose Berrios was the best pitcher he’d seen in person this season. Do you also have a baseball in your pocket for Berrios?
1:25 |
Eno Sarris: yeah he should be up yesterday for Pelfrey
1:25 |
Comment From MattHow excited should I be about going to Vermont BrewFest?
1:26 |
Comment From JoeWhy does Jung Ho kang hit so many #$@#$# grounders?
1:27 |
Eno Sarris: Why does Rusney too? Maybe we need Farnsworth in here. I do know that batters generally hit fewer GBs as they adjust to the league, so it could be a little of that.
1:27 |
Comment From I hoes“The Orioles have some interest in Hoes — who they shipped to Houston as part of the Bud Norris deal a while back — as well as Alex Presley, who is not on the 40-man. Likewise, the Angels are “thought” to be giving some consideration to Hoes…”
1:27 |
Eno Sarris: Snoop considers Hoes all the time.
1:28 |
Comment From Ham+puffsWhere do you rank Devon Travis ROS among 2B? Top 5? Top 7?
1:30 |
Eno Sarris: Him and Odor just outside the top five. Well let me look at consensus ranks. Altuve, Kipnis, Gordon, (Betts), Dozier, Kinsler, Wong … Okay now it’s a scrum for Odor, Travis, Murphy, Rendon, Pedroia. Without really sitting down with this, that feels like a decent ranking.
1:30 |
Comment From mtswDipoto resignation a good example of why teams benefit from having clear lines of authority between front office and on-field staff?
1:31 |
Eno Sarris: That’s how it looks from the outside, but from my understanding, there are circles of trust, Meet the Parents style. I don’t think the manager has usually ascended to the top circle, but maybe he has in this case.
1:31 |
Comment From EskinWhy isn’t Arrieta a top 10 fantasy arm? FIP, xFIP, and ERA consistently under 3.00.
1:31 |
Eno Sarris: Because there are many many excellent pitchers? I had him 15, that seems okay to me.
1:32 |
Comment From Sad About DixHey Eno, seems like a lost year for the Rockies RFer. Should I hold ‘Dix? Alternatively, what would you do to grab ‘Dix? Guss I just wanna know how you feel about ‘Dix.
1:32 |
Eno Sarris: Sad about ‘Dix too. If I could stash ‘Dix in my pocket, though, I would. Always good to have one around.
1:32 |
Comment From mtswOrioles just being silly in not giving Steve Pearce more starts or do they see something in his swing/approach that makes them think his 2014 was a fluke? He has a bad average this season but has had atrocious BABIP luck.
1:33 |
Eno Sarris: Yeah but much of his ‘breakout’ was BABiP-fueled against righties…
1:33 |
Comment From carlChase Anderson has stopped striking people out. Is that coming back, or is the league figuring him out?
1:34 |
Eno Sarris: Switched some of his four-seamers to sinkers, and maybe that’s not hiding his curve as well. Normally I’d sell his peripherals, but I still like his stuff!
1:35 |
Comment From StarkHow do I quantify or explain a player who’s got an pretty good above average slugging percentage but a basically average ISO?
1:35 |
Comment From BearHave you ever thought about charging people $20 to spend 15-20 minutes analyzing their fantasy team/league and providing them with a recommendation on pickups/trades/buy/sell?
1:35 |
Eno Sarris: I’ve already done this for people who have sent me beer.

Comment From mtswDo you find the song “Always be my baby” by Mariah Carey to be sort of depressing if you actually listen to the lyrics? Basically this dude broke up with her and she’s sure he’ll be back but he doesn’t actually come back. Like, he’s gone Mariah, get over it.

1:39 |
Comment From mtswWill Shohei Otani get the chance to be a two-way player in the MLB or is he strictly being looked at as a pitcher only?
1:39 |
Eno Sarris: We’ve had one in the last ten years and he lasted like two years so I guess the chance is maybe better than 1 in 1300 or so.
1:39 |
Comment From Art VandelayPoor Maxamuz, I can only hope he’s on some sort of long weekend, and isn’t just missing the chat.

1:40 |
Comment From John StamosNow that Soler is coming back this week, should we tame our excitement from what we held before the season started?
1:40 |
Eno Sarris: I’m not really. He’s a big dude that has made a few adjustments and should pair power with decent contact, which is the grail.
1:40 |
Comment From JasperIs Sonny Gray a Bonafide Ace or just a small statured man having a great year?

Comment From EuclidYou are the GM of a team and looking for a pitching coach. What questions are you asking and what answers are you hoping for?
1:43 |
Eno Sarris: Are there ideal mechanics for every pitcher? (No.) Are you willing to use the best technology to measure stress and fatigue? (Yes.) Are you willing to take leadership from the front office on best practices? (Yes.) I’m looking for a non-prescriptive forward-thinking pitching coach that can also scout a bit.
1:44 |
Comment From EuclidI’m heading to Portland, what breweries must I check out?

1:44 |
Eno Sarris: Go down to Bend for Boneyard, Crux, and Cascade.

Comment From West AshleyBassit looked decent last night…back of the rotation guy long term?
1:45 |
Eno Sarris: He was PUMPED. Averaged 91.5 or so last year, hit 97, 96, 95 in first three innings. I want more of a look, especially since he may not have a slot next week.
1:46 |
