Eno Sarris Baseball Chat — 7/28/16

1:39
Eno Sarris: I think I’ll do some weird music today. Some won’t like it. Shrug emoticon!

12:01
Mike : What’d you think of Demeritte in San Diego?

12:02
Eno Sarris: Asked him about his two-strike approach and he said he was trying stuff and nothing had clicked. I think that’s a fairly bad sign and I’ll put his bust rate at 80+%. But! He probably still has a 5% or so superior rate, because if he does put it together, I believe in his power, and think he can even stick at second.

12:02
Eric: I hope you are very wrong that Josh Reddick could net Bellinger+. That would be an objectively horrible trade for the Dodgers’ present and future

12:02
Eno Sarris: Well, I think the trade would be Hill and Reddick together, and I thought Bellinger was further down the prospect list, so I probably am wrong.

12:02
Jake: Where do you think manfred can improve!

12:03
Eno Sarris: Minor league pay scale, open, honest, intelligent discussion of why the home runs are up.

12:04
Jake: Machado or Bryce Harper?

12:04
Eno Sarris: Machado.

12:04
Brad: Did you laugh inside your head, when Shark told you he gets worried about paying his mortgage when trade talks occur?

12:05
Eno Sarris: He said that married people had to think about mortgages, and not paying them, more like selling/buying houses and transferring things. It doesn’t sound like a big deal, but I sensed real struggle and I think even pain when talking to Jed Lowrie about the decision to leave his wife and child in Houston because they had roots and a house and friends there.

12:05
pw: eno think the sox will make another move? starters? relivers? left field? what do you think is most likely if anything

12:05
Eno Sarris: Nothing unless it’s for a 2/3 starter at least. I guess Teheran or bust.

12:05
Bork: Hello, friend!

12:05
Eno Sarris: Hello!

12:06
Bork: So Benoit is totally going to turn it around for the Jays, right? RIGHT?

12:06
Eno Sarris: Guys with good splitties and command have long careers.

12:06
Nolan: Can Jason heyward fix his hitting?

12:06
Eno Sarris: I think he needs to go back to being the low-ball ground-ball guy he was in the past. At least he hit it hard back then.

12:06
CameronDaClub: What’s your favorite shitty beer? One that you can buy in 30-bomb quantities.

12:06
Eno Sarris: Modelo

12:07
Sean P: Based on what he’s shown this year, what do you see as Javy Baez’s ceiling? Looks like he’s got a chance to be better than Russell…

12:07
Eno Sarris: It’s still a really high swinging strike rate, and a really bad walk rate. Defense I give to Russell, patience goes to Russell. Power goes to Baez. Fantasy goes to Baez.

12:08
Oliver: CAMINERO. Dudes been on fire #flameemoji. With Melancon/Feliz/Nicasio more likely gone than not next year, any chance he closes over Watson?

12:08
Eno Sarris: Watson *is* a lefty!

12:08
2-D: That gameday classic workaround stopped working for me 🙁

12:08
Eno Sarris: Poops.

12:08
Sailor Jerry: Set Phasers to ‘Lude

12:08
Mike: How many ludes does it take to get to the center of a lude break?

12:08
Otis Redding: Breaking News: Eno Sarris is first man to consume 15 varieties of sandwich/beer combo in 15 minutes.

12:08
Eno Sarris: burp.

12:08
Brett: What is the magic formula for explaining a sustainable high BABIP? Low K%, low FB%, and low soft contact? Trying to legitimize Ramos’s BABIP as a trade target.

12:09
Eno Sarris: High exit velocity, level launch angle. Or: GB/FB near one, good hard%, good ISO, no PU (IFFB*FB < 3.5%).

12:09
Oliver: I know Sales not going anywhere, but I saw Passan say Sale for Cutch and Say Glasnow, thats pretty tempting on both sides, no?

12:10
Eno Sarris: Hey that’s not crazy. The pitching has silently been the problem in Pittsburgh, and they have Meadows…

12:10
Phil: You in on Bundy now? He got tired pretty quick in the 6th last night, but the stuff and velo look pretty legit and he doesn’t seem to be missing the slider/cutter. Also, you agree with the usage or should they be limiting his innings more? Buck seemed unconvinced that there was any magical number and if he is feeling fine, they will keep using him in the rotation.

12:10
Eno Sarris: Yah I bought some Bundy shares. I think he’s throwing a splitter now. Velo all the way back. Looks pretty nasty to me.

12:10
Vic: How much contributions can one expect from Greinke/Kershaw for the duration? This pair constitutes my #1/#2 on two different teams and in one league, I’ve gone from 1st to 5th in the past 4 weeks as a result.

12:11
Eno Sarris: Greinke close to being back. Kershaw, man, I just don’t know.

12:11
Barves gotta Barve: What is it about Folty’s arsenal that leads him to one week to give up 5 dingers and the next strike out 10?

12:12
Eno Sarris: Straight fastball with mediocre command, bad change. When he fills up the zone with 99, he’s fine.

12:12
Bregmans Dad: Does your book come in print or only digital format? Any SPs you’re targeting in dynasty leagues on the cheap for next year? Nola, Wacha, Bradley, etc?

12:13
Eno Sarris: Only digital at www.beergraphs.com/beer. I want Nola there.

12:13
Hawk: Will Ryon Healy be Oakland’s starting 3B in 2017?

12:13
Eno Sarris: Yes.

12:13
Oliver: I saw some people throwing around Bell/Meadows for Moore. That seems crazy high or am I undervaluing moore and that contract?

12:13
Eno Sarris: Too much. Bell plus a pitcher maybe.

12:13
Mike: What are some of your favorite Chicago beers? I’ve been drinking a lot of Pipeworks and Revolution lately.

12:14
Eno Sarris: Half Acre is great, but mostly because they make some really nice collaborations, plus Half Acre is a desert island beer. Off Color is good!

12:14
2-D: Streaming Nola today?

12:14
Eno Sarris: Yes

12:14
Yetti: Is Corey Kluber a top-5, top 10 or top 20 American League SP next season?

12:14
Eno Sarris: Top ten. Something about him makes me nervous for aging. (hint: the fastball)

12:15
Derrick: Buster Olney has been pretty vocal recently about the Pirates shopping Melancon. While they are fighting for a wild card spot, it’s seems like one of those moves that really wouldn’t have much of an impact on that pursuit, and could land them a decent prospect. Would you deal him if you’re Neal Huntington, especially with how inflated the closer market is?

12:15
Eno Sarris: I’m sure he has sources. My sense is they won’t trade him.

12:15
Kyle: When a Lucas Harrell trade gets a decent amount of media coverage, you know it’s a bad trade deadline.

12:15
Rob: McCullers can now throw strikes with his fastball (sinker?). Does he have a legitimate ace ceiling?

12:15
Eno Sarris: Always had ace ceiling. Has ace stuff, question is command and health.

12:16
Hooha: New Eno Chat Tagline: Let’s get weird

12:16
Alex : Eno, I’m really struggling to figure this out. Who do you value more next year: Hosmer or Odor? Mazara or Marcell Ozuna?

12:16
Eno Sarris: Odor, Ozuna. Though I love love Mazara.

12:17
EC: Nats seem poised to get a RP. Who is it? David Robertson? And what happens to Papelbon?

12:18
Eno Sarris: Huh, yeah they seem like the team to bring in an established closer type, otherwise just go to Kelley and Treinen. Only established guy on block is DRob or Madson, A’s might want more for cheap Madson. Jeffress expensive and not established ?. Melancon? I guess Robertson and Pap goes to seventh, works his way back to 8/9.

12:18
Da Raiders: Any reason to hold Chen on my DL?

12:18
Eno Sarris: Not in a 12-teamer I guess. I still have hope he finds the popups.

12:18
Josh: Is a turnaround coming for Bryce this year? Would you try to trade him for a Bryant or Rizzo type?

12:19
Eno Sarris: I think he’ll be fine, but surely the other two guys are safer if you can actually get them.

12:20
JD: How likely is it that cubs deal jorge soler?

12:20
Eno Sarris: If they get a top-line starter, seems like he’ll be the guy to go. Still toolsy enough to attract suitors.

12:20
Josh: listening to you on 670 the Score right now (11:55 AM EST)… busy day… just wanted to throw out a great idea I got from Caitlin Sweica (BPwrigleyville contributor) for those of us who have moral qualms with with Chapman… and that is to donate to a domestic violence charity relative to Chapman’s performance… personally I am donating $10 for every save and $1 for every K… this seems like a good way to align fandom and personal beliefs so thought I’d share.

12:21
Eno Sarris: Yah and Julie diCaro suggested DVLC Chicago as tehe charity!

12:22
natsfan: When do you bail and start the rebuild? I am in a 7 team moshpit, 5 1/2 points seperating 1st and 7th. I was unable to secure any talent when the last team tanked. I have roads to the top but it seems I need everything to break nearly perfectly for the next two months

12:22
Eno Sarris: If you do rebuild, you want to be one of the first, not one of the last. I’d send out feelers now.

12:22
Big Tall T: Eno! Do you find MLB players have a higher jerk% than the normal population due to all the attention they have received throughout their life …or is the ratio pretty similar to the rest of us schmos?

12:23
Eno Sarris: You know the weird thing? I mostly hang with people at baseball events or in clubhouses or concerts so… they’d have the highest jerk% in that grouping, but that’s a bit unfair. I don’t get the sense that it’s crazier than the outside world, but maybe I’m out of touch with the outside world.

12:24
ASalas: Who closes if the trade goes through? Jansen or Wade Davis?

12:24
Eno Sarris: Jansen. I think they’ll go with the in-house hometown guy.

12:24
Brian S: Someone wants Jay Bruce… Right? Right?

12:25
Eno Sarris: SF might just wait to get healthy. Baltimore was in the market, but it was for a CF. Nationals?

12:25
Sean: Could you see Liam Hendriks get moved?

12:25
Eno Sarris:

12:26
Eno Sarris: The implication here is no, nobody knows his name. But I guess there are teams like the Rangers looking for cheap help in the bullpen and he’d have to be cheaper than the other names out there. 20%?

12:26
Kevin: What do you like in Jordan Zimmermann and Eovaldi that places them above Drew Pomeranz and Lance McCullers in your 2nd half SP Rankings?

12:27
Eno Sarris: If I redid them now, McCullers would be tops, Zimmermann and his command/feel for pitching second. Eo and Pom pretty close, Pomeranz makes me nervous with a 90 mph fastball in the ALE in those ballparks, Eo’s HR problem calming down.

12:28
Jim: What’s up with Cody Reed?

12:28
Eno Sarris: Fastball command.

12:28
Aimee : Will there ever be a female gm?

12:29
Eno Sarris: Kim Ng got too good a job right now. Eventually yes, but time frame I can’t see.

12:29
Joe: Prime Pedro vs prime kershaw?

12:29
Eno Sarris: I’ll take Pedro, he was Kershaw like during the steroid era, plus I just love that change.

12:30
natsfan: Will Joe Musgrove pitch in the majors this year? Will I be waiting until September…. And will it all be worth it?

12:30
Eno Sarris: In the bullpen. In the middle innnings.

12:30
Eno Sarris: (in September)

12:30
Alex: Are you a fan of any bourbon barrel aged beers? Any recs?

12:30
Eno Sarris: My favorites are probably both from the same brewery — Abyss and Black Butte (the seasonal).

12:31
gootchgootch: You think Jaime Garcia is better than his 5IP, low-K self ROS? That’s streamer level even in deep leagues, ain’t it? so boring

12:31
Eno Sarris: He’s had a high swinging strike rate and low K% for so long, we can’t expect better.

12:32
JD: I feel like Manfred is trying to make drastic changes to the games rules, when things as little as letting people share highlights on social media could increase popularity, or moving game times up so younger audience can stay up and watch. Obviously time has an effect on the game’s popularity but is he going to far in his attempt to shorten the game?

12:32
Eno Sarris: Yeah, why the heck are we talking about 154 games and limiting relievers? Do. Not. Want.

12:32
Oliver: Chat Idea: Bork Hosts a chat and all FanGraphs writers ask Bork questions

12:32
Pie: Rude ludes or nude ludes? Asking for a friend

12:32
Oliver: Strange but true: Tecate is the beer that got me liking beer and eventually turned me into the beer snob I am today

12:33
JP: I liked your article on the players perspective in getting traded. I always wonder what rental players do about lodging once they get traded. Does the new team put them up in a hotel for the duration of the season?

12:33
Eno Sarris: They get help for the first week and then it’s on them to rent or whatever.

12:33
Krob: HELLO, ENEMY!

12:33
Eno Sarris: Can’t we at least be frenemies.

12:34
Francisco Liriano but Evil: What does Rzepcynski bring back in a trade? Lot of teams seem to need competent LH relievers right now. Maybe a AAA starter somewhere?

12:34
Eno Sarris: Seems more likely than Axford.

12:34
Sean B: Are the balls juiced?

12:34
Eno Sarris: I think something on the ball has changed, but I don’t know if it was on purpose.

12:35
Mork: Sometimes I go out in public and socialize with people. Those times are called “alibis”.

12:36
Fox Mulder: You’re a big Velasquez guy.. How early do you think he gets shut down/what kind of numbers are you expecting ROS?

12:36
Eno Sarris: I actually think the injury shifted his remaining innings so that he doesn’t have to be shut down completely. Maybe skipped. I’d project 50 innings for him RoS and maybe 65 for others?

12:37
Reginald Denton III: JUpton or Khris Davis ROS? BCrawford or JBaez ROS?

12:37
Eno Sarris: Upton Baez

12:37
Tom : If Cashner is traded, who would take his spot in rotation? Asking for a NL only friend.

12:38
Eno Sarris: good god

12:38
Eno Sarris: uh

12:38
Eno Sarris: well

12:39
Eno Sarris: huh

12:39
Eno Sarris: I don’t know.

12:39
JD: What do you think about Luis severino?

12:39
Eno Sarris: Looking for a third pitch, oldest story in the book. Problem for me is I’m not sure which is his second pitch.

12:40
Kevin: As someone who has been following the Pirates system for years, it often seems like our prospects developing a change-up has been that last hump before they’re deemed major league ready. My question is, is this something that might just be an organization development specific thing or is that a pretty common barrier for a lot of pitchers, and if so, why is that?

12:40
Eno Sarris: It’s hard for a breaking ball guy to learn a change and vice versa, it’s just something about mechanics. To me, the knuckle curve and the split finger are the answers to that question, because they are thrown like fastballs, but the splitter makes teams nervous.

12:41
kris: Folty is the next Eovaldi, right

12:41
Eno Sarris: oh yeah totally

12:41
Ben: Heard some talk that Boston might consider something like Moncada and Benintendi for Sale. Am I being a prospect hugger, or is this a depressing possibility as a Boston fan?

12:42
Eno Sarris: Sale is the business, don’t worry about the scissorhands.

12:42
Snarfle: Success tip! Get to know druids well enough so that you can tell which ones can actually talk to animals and trees and which are just making stuff up for easy money.

12:42
Joe random: what are your thoughts on skaggs?

12:43
Eno Sarris: Surprised that after a stretch of 22% swinging strikes in the minors that he didn’t get a lot of whiffs in first start. Still, he has three good pitches. Good velocity. Has improved command.

12:43
Rags: My favorite animal is salad.

12:43
LarryA: Ddi you know Chen Ming Wang is pitching in the Major leagues in 2016?

12:43
Eno Sarris: Yes! And he’s an inspiration to Chi-Wei Huh!

12:43
Mike: Trading Miley would be “selling low” on him, right? That seems to go against everything Dipoto has done since arriving.

12:44
Eno Sarris: Not if you’ve seen enough to think that maybe this is it.

12:44
Pat: Really want my Rangers to get Archer. Is that realistic?

12:44
Eno Sarris: That contract though.

12:44
Grego: If I were to direct fangraphs the movie, who should be cast as eno

12:44
Eno Sarris: God these days probably TJ Miller

12:44
Grego: Rangers: do they make any more moves

12:45
Eno Sarris: They need a starter, and I can’t believe it’s Harrel.

12:45
Merv Throneberry: Might Joe Smith be closing in St. Louie by next week?

12:45
Eno Sarris: No that would surprise me greatly.

12:45
jon: You think Blackmon sticks in COL because of his contract? Not a lot of incentive to lose that good a deal.

12:45
Eno Sarris: Yeah.

12:46
mitt: Ketel Marte seems like the most recent in a stretch of Mariners SS who is just a shade or two over replacement level, all coming from their system. Not thematic either – Miller skewed bat, Taylor field, Marte who knows. Is it particularly hard to develop SS, or is it a Mariners problem, or just coincidence?

12:46
Eno Sarris: Prospects will break your heart.

12:46
Rib Rob: Michael Saunders–fluke or late breakout? The Blue Jays have done it before, but I honestly don’t know what to make of him

12:46
Eno Sarris: Finally healthy, in good power park, made one adjustment, I believe.

12:47
Brack: Say something nice about Jon Gray–he’s a ginger, he could use some love.

12:47
Eno Sarris: Love that fastball and the cutter and the slider! Has a real chance at fantasy #2dom.

12:47
Football: I need to drop two from Cueto,Foltynewicz,Moore,Shoemaker,Skaggs,Maeda,C.Martinez,H.Santiago,Taillon, ?

12:47
Eno Sarris: Folty Santiago

12:48
Jerry: How the hell has Jay Bruce not been traded yet? He’s been on MLBTR more than any player I can remember for like three years.

12:48
Eno Sarris: CarGo?

12:48
Stuafoo: Have you ever talked to any players who bristle at playing for a team strictly due to the logo/mascot?

12:49
Eno Sarris: No! But there’s a ‘it’s not your life’ thing with baseball players, so I think they’d shrug and try to advocate for change somehow that didn’t get them in trouble.

12:49
NYTT: How do you get that Folty’s fastball is straight? The movements numbers on both his 4 seam and 2 seam say otherwise, don’t they?

12:50
Eno Sarris: His four seam numbers are almost exactly average, which is straighter than deviating from average. Sinker’s good, gives up fewer homers, but he trusts it less and it’s a strike less often.

12:50
Larry Bernandez: I think if you are unsure if you are a buyer or a seller, you’re probably a seller

12:51
Eno Sarris: And yet, the thing that gets butts in seats is sustained winning. So selling too much actually has consequences.

12:51
Logan: Tre T a lock to stay up n run wild?

12:51
Eno Sarris: Yeah. In CF!

12:51
Snarfle: Some pop songs just need to be covered to reveal their genius. See: I Can’t Get You Out of My Head by the Flaming Lips and Toxic by that woman whose not Britney Spears and is probably from somewhere in Europe. It’s sexy.

12:51
Eno Sarris: I heard a cover of “Billie Jean” in reggae in Jamaica and suddenly understood the words for the first time.

12:52
Zorak: Expensive Kershaw for mid-priced Harper in a keep-6 league h2h points? Harper’s owner is out of the playoffs.

12:52
Eno Sarris: You’d think Harper is the better keeper given their prices, but not enough to get mad about.

12:52
Will: Is Seattle going to hold even though their chances are slim? If not, who could be moved?

12:53
Eno Sarris: I could see moving Diaz if there’s a lot of interest, Paxton not crazy either. But do they bring back a ton?

12:53
Tom: Bedrosian gonna take over for Street by season’s end? Huston looks like toast.

12:53
Eno Sarris: Bedrosian and Nate Jones two of my most interesting reliever pickups for saves hounds.

12:54
Alex: I can only find Booming Rollers in a Modern Times variety 10 pack as its a spring seasonal. Are other MT beers worth buying the 10 pack for Booming Rollers?

12:54
Eno Sarris: yes.

12:54
E: Who on the Fangraphs staff has the most baseball playing experience? Any former college or pro players?

12:54
Eno Sarris: I forget where Jeff Sullivan pitched, but I know that Brad Johnson still plays in one of those fast-pitch baseball adult leagues! I peaked in JV, when I went 3-10 in a 10-game season with three drag bunts.

12:55
mtsw: If there’s any reason baseball players display a high jerk% it’s because a huge fraction of their interactions with strangers are with autograph hounds pestering them to sign memorabilia they can sell to make a buck. Don’t blame them for putting a guard up.

12:55
Eno Sarris: oh man, listen, getting autographs is fine, but those hordes make me feel bad.

12:55
Wardo: Over/under: my herpity or my derpity?

12:55
Eno Sarris: Not the one that starts with most of the letters of a venerial disease.

12:56
Yoan Moncada: Is Odor always going to be a low BB guy, or does that tend to increase with age?

12:56
Eno Sarris: You *do* take more pitches as you age, so it could go up a bit.

12:56
Eno Sarris: it shouldn’t

12:57
Seabass: Eno Chat – Making me Fat. Or maybe it’s these tater tots

12:58
Eno Sarris: it’s the beer

12:58
Eric: Pedro was also a head-hunter who got into fights with 80 year old men.

12:58
Eno Sarris: which was always fairly entertaining. I didn’t know I was taking personalities, though.

12:58
Snarfle: Umpire: The rain should clear up in half an hour, so we’ll start then.
Buck Showalter: It’s not raining at all.
Umpire: Okay, you caught me, we’re finishing up a Magic the Gathering tournament with some of the Rays.
Buck Showalter: But we’re playing the Yankees.
Umpire: This runs deeper than you seem to realize.

12:59
Matt: What do you mean by “desert island beer”?

12:59
Eno Sarris: Beer you’d take with you if you had to drink one the rest of the way.

12:59
Me: Can someone please explain the Caminero excitement to me?

1:01
Eno Sarris: ERA under 1.7 in 10 innings since his return, strikeout rate up, closer velocity, under team control on a team that’s reportedly shopping the closer.

1:01
Spaceman Spiff: Pineda fell in your rankings, but K% BB% & velocity all look fine. Am I missing something?

1:01
Eno Sarris: Looked at exit velo and launch angles and he’s giving up hard contact.

1:01
mtsw: If we’re so concerned with speeding up games that we’re willing to change the rules, why not start with bullpen segways? Would unambigiously shave several minutes off the game with zero change to actual gameplay. Just too silly to consider?

1:01
Eno Sarris: BRING BACK THE BULLPEN CART

1:02
Fielder’s neck: What kind of role does this Alvarez kid play for the Rangers this year and into the future.? He sure seems to have the strikeout ability to be a potential closer.

1:02
Eno Sarris: Not the velo and he’s a lefty.

1:02
Zach: I’ve always been curious with these chats since I send multiple questions in… does that chat identify for you if it’s coming from the same user? Even if I said my name was Steve or Barack?

1:02
Eno Sarris: I don’t really see the names! Certainly can’t see the user.

1:02
Matt: I think you owe me $5 for the ‘lude I gave you last week. We can connect offline.

1:02
Eno Sarris: hole on different ludes dude

1:03
Matt: You couldn’t think of something more inappropriate for your answer to “are the balls juiced”? For shame

1:03
Eno Sarris: I was making a joke about we went from the balls being shrunken and the players being juiced to

1:04
Jim: Hi Eno! When does Terry Collins start to get some flack for his decision making? His lineup construction, bullpen usage, and this rediculous conclusion that Conforto can’t hit lefites after 61 at bats against them is all extremely confusing / frustrating.

1:04
Eno Sarris: I’m not a TC fan.

1:04
forever it: Maybe Morrow (for Cashner replacement)?

1:05
Eno Sarris: Yeah I saw that. Guess so. But then they’ll need to look for a replacement for Morrow shortly.

1:05
Eric B Longenhagen: Had an uncle bring zombie dust up for the family weekend. Should that move him up the christmas list?

1:05
Eno Sarris: Definitely past fruitcake.

1:05
forever it: SD Union-Tribune article: “Next Monday night, the trade deadline will have passed, and Clemens could be pitching the first inning against Milwaukee. If Cashner is indeed traded, Clemens would replace him in the rotation.”

1:06
Eno Sarris: Hey! Clemens has a top-ten spin rate on the curve. The problem is the rest of it.

1:06
Bork: I 100% support that chat idea. Borkchat would be great

1:06
Elton: How has Brandon McCarthy looked to you so far? Will he be a valuable member of the Dodger rotation next year?

1:06
Eno Sarris: I’m a fan.

1:06
Tacoby Bellsbury: Nick Cafardo suggested yesterday that to get Sale, the Red Sox might have to give up … Eduardo Rodriguez. LOL. I don’t have a question, btw.

1:06
Ben: Maybe I’m just out of touch with society, but I’ve never heard anyone complain about length of baseball games, or “pace of play” except for like 19 inning games. Is Manfred trying to fix a problem that doesn’t exist? All these rule change propositions are just preposterous.

1:07
Eno Sarris: It’s possible that the ‘swing voters’ that are picking between sports care, but what are you watching right now if not baseball? Is soccer’s pace so blindingly fast?

1:07
Brad: as for sale, he said the collar was going to alter his mechanics which could lead to injury. I think he was wrong to cut up the jerseys but couldn’t the sox pitched him on next day instead of being we are the boss do what we say?

1:08
Eno Sarris: I side mostly with Sale. He’s the frigging franchise. He complained earlier. You couldn’t do the shirt on another day?

1:08
Oliver: I want to love Paxton. But man can he just get lit up at times. Why?

1:09
Eno Sarris: I think this will also limit his trade value. I don’t get it. Maybe he’s struggling to find that new arm slot.

1:09
Pie: How could you not pick Daniel Day Lewis as Eno Sarris?

1:09
Eno Sarris: Well, other than the fact that he doesn’t look anything like me, sure!

1:09
Robbie Ray: HELLO OLD FRIEND!

1:09
Eno Sarris: I know, I know. You’ve been much better than I thought. Still a bad changeup.

1:11
Greg: What are your thoughts on Dahl in Colorado? Seems they intend to play him, trades be damned.

1:12
Eno Sarris: Yah he’s here and playing and is exciting!

1:12
John Olerud: In the podcasts this year, both Paul Sporer and you have hinted at your desire to be more open to gambling on hot streaks over struggling/middling players, which I totally understand and have also tried to be more open too. In fact, the industry as a whole seems to be leaning more this way. That said, I’m wondering if this trend is skewing too far the other way now. Case in point, your suggestion two podcasts ago of possibly swapping Naquin for a guy like Calhoun. I see the argument for doing this, but really? I mean, Naquin is hot, but his K%, BABIP and MiLB track record seem to suggest that this is highly unsustainable, whereas I feel Calhoun is a proven Fantasy asset at this point. And this is just one of several similar examples I’ve heard discussed on the podcast. Again, is it possible that you’re starting to skew too far in the other direction and gambling too much now as opposed to too little before?

1:12
Eno Sarris: Didn’t I say no? I had the chance, on air, and chose to keep Calhoun. I’ve been yelled at for being too patient, so I don’t think I personally have gone too far. I do think some have.

1:13
pw: think trevor story makes it to 40? and will he be a 25+ home run for years to come? even with that dreadful swing and miss rate

1:13
Eno Sarris: See his whiff rate is two percentage points better than Baez’s! Weird, huh? Yeah I think he gets to 40 and is a perennial 30 guy.

1:13
Zorak: The movie is about Fang Rap HS, the high school for hip-hop vampires

1:14
Claxpamon: If you’re the Indians and you decide to move Frazier or Zimmer for a stud, how in the world do you decide which one to trade?!

1:14
Eno Sarris: You decide if Frazier’s swing and miss is a serious problem.

1:14
Matt: I’d like to lead the revalution in following soccer and referring to baseball players as “baseballers”. You with me?

1:14
Eno Sarris: Yes!

1:14
Rick: You’re coming to Toronto for PitchTalks?!!!

1:14
Eno Sarris: yes! September 8! meetup that Friday!

1:14
mtsw: If you’re a rec-league level baseball player, what’s the ideal arm slot? Seems like literally no reason to not throw sidearm if you can manage it. Change my view.

1:15
Eno Sarris: yah or extreme over top for ride and drop.

1:15
Oliver: when you think of a prototypical replacement level position player whos that guy? Mines the great Donnie Kelly

1:15
Eno Sarris: Rafael Belliard.

1:16
phantom of the chakras: Heard E-Rod is throwing something called a ‘slider.’ Got a hot take? I know you tempered your disgust on the Sleeper, but curious if it’s been tempered even more.

1:16
Eno Sarris: I noticed a harder breaking ball. There’s still talent in that arm.

1:16
Eno Sarris:

1:16
Eno Sarris: Just going to put that there. I used to be awesome at Quake while playing that.

1:16
Mike_C: While accepting the inherent risk in the approach, is it fair to say that Sale would not be significantly less valuable at the trade deadline next year so it makes sense for the Sox to keep him and try pushing their chips all in again in 2017?

1:17
Eno Sarris: Yah Sale’s value is pretty good for a while.

1:17
Greg: For the rest of the season, would you take Bregman or T Turner? Seems other than speed, Bregman is the guy, but SBs are so damn hard to find!

1:18
Eno Sarris: I think Turner for that reason, plus role for Turner seems to be settled now. Maybe I’m out in front, but watched that game yesterday and the announcers were over it and you know Dusty Baker has an announcer’s mentality lol.

1:18
JD: Just acquired A.J Ramos. Can you tell me something good about him?

1:18
Eno Sarris: Best changeup whiff rate in baseball.

1:18
FireDrayton: You see the Astros making any moves? What would you be doing if you were in that chair?

1:18
Eno Sarris: Starting pitcher, a real good one that’s under control. Go for it. Put an ace on that team with those young hitters…

1:19
2-D: Have you had a chance to sneek a peak at this famed Rich Hill blister in person?

1:19
Eno Sarris: Sounds dirty. No, they on the road.

1:19
Nate: Picked up D Gordon off waivers a month ago, now I’m looking to deal him for a pitcher to get ready for playoffs. I’d really like to score Sale or Cueto (or someone along those lines). Who am I more likely to land? And will I need to add something else to the package, or is Gordon straight up enough?

1:19
Eno Sarris: Try Cueto straight up.

1:19
Matt: Have you ever smelled Odor’s odor?

1:19
Eno Sarris: Guess so but it didn’t make an impression.

1:20
JD: Who is the funniest baseball person you follow on Twitter?

1:22
Eno Sarris: Ted Berg makes me laugh. Grant Brisbee. Jeff Sullivan. Sam Miller. Tim Baffoe. Dan Szymborski.

1:22
The Hamburglar: I was worried about Aaron Sanchez’ inning limit this year, so I flipped him for Jackie Bradley Jr. Smart move, or should I have kept Sanchez?

1:22
Eno Sarris: Probably a good move.

1:22
Bork: Speed up games by making ump challenges not take 15 mins or more each time.

1:23
Eno Sarris: AJ Ellis likes this idea. Three flags for challenges, no club review before challenge.

1:23
Joey Votto: How much do you love me?

1:23
Eno Sarris: All of the loves.

1:23
Brad: Couple months ago you said in chat you liked snell better than urias because of his velo. I think snell is looking good so far. What do you think of him going forward?

1:24
Eno Sarris: I might be wrong on that one. But if Snell is actually behind, he’s made it closer by showing that the slider is really good the last few starts. He seemed to think I was crazy for thinking that maybe people could see his wrist wrap, but I think he’ll get there or throw the curve for called strikes.

1:24
Me: The herp is no bueno

1:24
Pie: Looks are overated. Ludes are forever

1:25
Oliver : We the world is playing downtown during my lunch break. It’s causing me to question life and go home for the day. Fair or foul?

1:25
Oliver : Update on the we the world. Now it’s the chipmunks Christmas. I want to cry and go home

1:25
Eno Sarris: “My ears are sick and I have to go home and cut them off.”

1:25
The Decadent Moose: Eickhoff wasn’t mentioned in Top 10 curve spin rates. A lot of folks love his curveball though. What’s the truth here?

1:26
Eno Sarris: Spin, velo, arm slot, all these things have to come together, spin alone is not everything. But he also had to start throwing the slider more to make it all work.

1:26
Young Jeezy: Are you coming around on Danny Duffy? Does he have top-25-35 potential this season in that arm?

1:26
Eno Sarris: Keeping the walk rate down. Yeah, he’s way better than I thought he’d be.

1:26
Mike: What’s your under the radar brewery in the flooded market that is San Diego?

1:27
Eno Sarris: I guess everyone knows about Modern Times now, so I’ll say Half Door. Really liked what I had.

1:28
You Better You Better You Betts: Going to NYC for NYCC in October. What’s a good craft beer bar(lot of stuff on tap, not going to break the bank) in Manhattan?

1:28
Eno Sarris: Uh the second part hard. I like Ginger Man but I think it was expensive. Maybe Rattle n Hum was cheaper? Could just go to Brooklyn and drink Threes.

1:29
Matt: Can you imagine if Chris Sale was super smart, ate healthy, and loved telling stories about ocean mammels? He’d be a male Sale that ate kale at Yale who tells tales of whales.

1:29
Ronnie: Rest of season, would you rather have Dyson, good team, but meh k-rate…or Colome and his great k-rate, but shaky team

1:29
Eno Sarris: Dyson.

1:29
Blender: do you only answer questions from fangraphs members? I just realized i’m not logged in and my questions very rarely get answered

1:29
Eno Sarris: I do not see that. I answer maybe 10% of the questions though, it’s crowded.

1:29
Randy Savage: Talk about your weird growler thing!

1:31
Eno Sarris: Oh the Growlerwerks pressurized growler! was great, had unflat beer a day after I opened the growler. Its pricey and irrelevant for people that can either kill a growler by themselves in one day or have more help than I do. But for those that find they leave 1/4 or more in the growler at the end of the day, it’s p cool.

1:31
The Cincinnati Kid: Shouldn’t the pace of games vs. fringe fans argument really be decided by actual dollars? I mean, that’s REALLY what Manfred and the owners care about, and so losing a commercial break or two per game vs. gaining more eyes or butts in the seats is the question.

1:31
Eno Sarris: Yeah that’s the real pace of play thing that’s not talked about. Cut an ad and suddenly things pick up.

1:31
Jeff: Would you do Starling for Schwarber in a dynasty league? OBP league*

1:31
Eno Sarris: yes.

1:32
Zorak: Best craft beer bar in Manhattan is The Jeffrey (though it’s manhattan, you’re going to break the bank).

1:32
Justin: Seriously, though, why can’t Jason Heyward hit any more?

1:33
Eno Sarris: I think he’s trying to be someone he’s not. He’s a ground-ball, low-ball line drive guy, and he’s swinging at pitches high in the zone while also trying to add loft to his swing. All of the pop-ups and lazy flies.

1:34
Maxamuz: Keeping Schwarber @ $8 (out of $250) next year in Yahoo where my source told me their data provider has him getting C and OF next year is a no brainer right?

1:34
Eno Sarris: yes

1:34
JD in Houston: craft been in Manhattan and you fail to mention the Blind Tiger? For shame sir, for shame.

1:34
Billy Beane: Do I just QO Hill at this point? 2/$23 seems like a pretty decent deal for someone with his numbers, even if he is pretty fragile.

1:35
Eno Sarris: I can’t imagine he does. Maybe he offers him ten mill for next year, lets him go if not.

1:35
mike sixel: In real life…..Kyle Gibson or Shelby Miller for the remainder of their deals?

1:35
Eno Sarris: Kyle Gibson has been improving his swinging strike and strikeout stuff, shhh nobody noticing.

1:36
Bubba: Rest of year: Suarez or Semien at SS?

1:36
Eno Sarris: Semien. Really like the adjustments he’s made in season to be able to pull for power and push for BA.

1:36
Frank: Carlos Correa’s peripherals say he should be in for a monster second half, you buying that?

1:36
Eno Sarris: Yes.

1:36
benj: Raisel Iglesias is playing a weird role for the Reds right now, sort of a non-fireman long reliever. Is this the long term plan for him? Do they still see him as a starter?

1:37
Eno Sarris: Yeah they straddling the line and trying to up the innings while not starting, so this is what they are doing.

1:38
Eno Sarris: Yo I should probably see if I need to write something. it’s been grand!

1:38
Eno Sarris: Thanks for coming.

Is there any reason to believe Bryce Harper picks it up?
