I’m looking at these available 2B going into a draft: Walker, Kendrick, Utley, Lawrie, Odor, Gyorko, Hill, Baez, Alcantara, Semien, Zobrist (I have Kipnis as a keeper so this would be as a MI/backup primarily, unless Kipnis misses time). Any favorites/targets from that big group? 10 teams, 18 keepers, H2H, 5×5

Eno Sarris: Odor is looking better and better in my eyes. Lawrie is a decent backup plan, but you’ll want to pair him with someone, maybe like Utley, and hope one is healthy at the right time.

Eno Sarris: Doubt he has the innings to do a full season, but I’m out on Tomas. I might take Castillo just because I like prospect bats better.

Eno Sarris: We try to stay away from too much analysis based purely on number of checkins for this reason, so do what you like. But from data standpoint, more checkins = better.

Loved your article on punting. I’m in a H2H league. What do you think about drafting the good closers who may be on the DL (Jansen, Parnel, Doolittle, McGee) so they can help you dominate saves in the playoffs which I have always made.

Eno Sarris: If they cheaper for starting on DL, absolutely I’m into it. A little worried about Parnell, just because if that team falls out of it, they could easily trade him or take another look at a different reliever.

Eno Sarris: I’m not too worried about this. You have the rest of your squad, and get to the playoffs before you worry about what happens in the playoffs. If it’s roto, don’t even think about it. In H2H, maybe halfway through the season think about trading a guy or two for end game reasons.

I’m totally on board with the principle of the vast majority of keepers being hitters. But in a league that DOESN’T use CI/MI spots and has just one Utility spot, would you consider keeping a higher proportion of pitchers? I have Altuve, but I also have Wong and would love to keep him. Eno Sarris: Without an MI slot, I don’t think it makes sense to keep a bench hitter over a top pitcher.

Eno Sarris: His secondary pitches didn’t perform as admirably as Stroman’s last year, but he has more velocity. He’s definitely a good/great pitcher on the cusp.

Why the love for Soler? Unproven at major leauge level, below league average walk rate.projected for more Hrs at the major league level (per steamer) than he hit in any one year in MiLB. ZiPS looks more reaosnable, at .250 with a dozen homers.

Eno Sarris: The adjustments he made in the minor leagues suggest better contact and more patience coming, the debut he had was outstanding for his age, his power is impressive and he doesn’t have the contact problems that most power hitters his age have around him.

Eno Sarris: In short, it’s a lot of the things I loved about Rizzo the last two years.

Why can some guys get by on fastball/slider as a starter without platoon splits?

Eno Sarris: Velocity and command. The slider gets platoon splits because if it drifts over the plate, it drifts right into opposite-handed bat path. But if you can avoid drifting over the plate…

General strat. question. I was in a 12 tm mixed where 15 SP were taken in the first 43 picks. I didn’t have any so I panicked and reached for Lester, Cole and Iwakuma much earlier than normal. Mistake?

Why do people say that Sanchez would be a lights out closer and that he “misses bats”? His swinging strike rate last year was 6.2%, the lowest of any pitcher with at least one save. He gets a lot of ground balls, but he’s no Zach Britton (and Britton also has a much better swinging strike rate at 13.1%). Sanchez does have a nice fastball, but it feels like he’s getting a lot of hype off of last year’s small sample size.

Eno Sarris: Guess it’s from watching more than looking at results. I do think more whiffs would come… if he was in the pen.

Eno Sarris: SQL super easy, and there’s good stuff out there from Colin Wyers about how to build your own baseball database using SQL, so I’d go that route. I did. I’m leaning R next.

So I don’t wan to spend more than $40 on Trout ($200 limit), I’m going to open the bid at $40 and let the price go up from there. Thats to high in my league, he’s valued around $32 with the $200 cap. I’ll find my stats elsewhere this year.
