Position: Associate, Minor League Analytics

Locations: Clover Park – Port Saint Lucie, Florida; NYSEG Stadium – Binghamton, New York; MCU Park – Brooklyn, New York; NBT Bank Stadium – Syracuse, New York

Summary:
The New York Mets are seeking Affiliate Analysts in Baseball Analytics. Each Affiliate Analyst will be assigned to one of the Mets’ minor league sites (AAA Syracuse, AA Binghamton, High-A Brooklyn, Low-A Port St. Lucie, Complex in Port St. Lucie, DSL). Candidates are welcome to apply to only certain sites, so long as they clarify during interviews which one(s) they would be willing to go to. The Affiliate Analyst will spend the full year traveling with their respective club, from Spring Training through the end of the season. Offers may be for full-time positions or for associate positions, with the potential to become full-time after the season.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Work with members of players development, including coordinators and the coaching staff, to help the affiliate prepare for games and to help the players develop their skills
  • Work with the other five affiliate analysts to help improve each other’s understanding of the game and our minor league players, especially as players transfer from affiliate to another
  • Interpret data and model-based results on internal reports and websites to help coaches use the information to work with their players
  • Modify existing codebase and develop new automated reports to be used by coaches and players before games
  • Provide feedback to the rest of Baseball Analytics and Baseball Systems on reports, models, and tools that relate to Player Development
  • Track player plans throughout the year, in coordination with Player Development
  • Develop a strong understanding of the various types of technology that are used throughout Player Development and improve their integration into player plans
  • As time permits, analysts will be assigned additional coding and/or statistical modeling projects relating to Player Development
  • Additional ad hoc requests from Baseball Analytics and Player Development in line with these job responsibilities

Qualifications:

  • Masters and/or BS degree in a quantitative field is a plus
  • Firm understanding of modern baseball technology
  • Basic proficiency in R, Python, or similar, as well as proficiency in SQL
  • Strong communication skills
  • Fluency in Spanish is a strong plus
  • Statistical modeling experience is a plus
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others
  • Willingness to travel with a minor league team throughout the duration of the season, which includes working nights, weekends, and holidays as dictated by the team’s schedule
