Here’s your chance to vote for the 2014 SABR Analytics Conference Research Awards winners.
The SABR Analytics Conference Research Awards will recognize baseball researchers who have completed the best work of original analysis or commentary during the preceding calendar year. Nominations were solicited by representatives from SABR, Baseball Prospectus, FanGraphs, The Hardball Times, and Beyond the Box Score.

Chris Jones’ “When 772 Pitches Isn’t Enough” is a great cultural read.
Seems a shame that you curate that list and don’t bundle them into a book like “Best Baseball Writings- 2013”; kinda like old Sci-Fi Mags produce “Best Short Stories of 1972”?
Someone has a hard time determining what ought to be considered commentary and what ought to be considered analysis. How a bunch of people chatting about the way Harper’s swing looks is analysis, while an exhaustive datacentric study on the strike zone over the last five years is commentary, I’ll never understand.
It lets them give out an additional award. Duh.
Yes, but they could at least try to filter the articles into the proper category. Is it just the politics of trying to get two specific pieces of analysis paired up with a bunch of losers? Maybe so–that strikezone article ought to win something.
