Eric A Longenhagen: Mariano III (that’s right, he’s a third, not a junior) hadn’t played a whole lot of baseball before he was drafted so there’s just more room to project on the total package. Value-wise, the upside is limited because he’s never going to be more than a reliever.

Patrick: Best pitch featured by a Phillies pitcher: Nola’s curveball, Vince’s fastball, or Neris’s splitter?

Eric A Longenhagen: Nola’s curveball plays up against righties because of his arm slot and really isn’t more than a 55 or 60. I’ll say Neris’ splitter. I have no idea where that came from.

Mike: Tyler White is hitting much better of late. Still a chance he sticks with the team all year, or is he a goner when Reed is ready?

Eno Sarris: The Gattis to catcher thing is interesting here. That means that White could move to DH if he can be better than Gattis, and yes he can be better than Gattis. I believe in White. Played against a righty, sat, played against a lefty… I think he’ll push his way to playing daily. They throwing the high fastball against him and he’s had to resort to his more patient ways.

Texas Dolly: It’s finally Sam Dyson time!!! Do you expect him to hold down the job for the rest of the season?

Eno Sarris: Yes. Bush is there, but Dyson’s sinker gives him such a high floor.

Dave Cameron: Eric Longenhagen will be chatting here on Friday this week, giving you all a chance to pepper him with questions and get to know him a bit better. Zonk: The Pirates are in contention, and rolling Jon Niese and Jeff Locke out there. Meanwhile, Glasnow and Taillon continue to mow down AAA batters. Why are the Pirates waiting to bring them up? Are they waiting on the Super-TWo deadline?

Dave Cameron: Taillon hasn’t pitched much the last few years, and Glasnow still has significant command issues. Keep in mind the lesson of Jose Berrios; the jump to the big leagues isn’t always as easy as it appears, and it does more harm than good to put a kid on the yo-yo between the big leagues and the minors.

Dave Cameron: They’ll be up this summer, but rushing it isn’t a great idea.

Paul Swydan: OK let’s do this!

Brett: As a Boston fan, I see Teheran as a perfect fit for us since he’s young, affordable and under team control until 2020. What would we have to give to Atlanta to get Teheran?

Paul Swydan: Not much. I’m not big on Teheran. He’s league average in the NL, and I expect he would be worse than that in the AL. Also, while he’s young, his fastball has already lost 2 mph, and if it loses 2 more, he’ll basically be done.

AJ Preller: Are pieces like Melvin Upton, Matt Kemp, Andrew Cashner, and Derek Norris even trade-able? What would it take to see deals take place?

Paul Swydan: Upton has rebuilt his trade value some, and Kemp probably goes if you pay his salary. Shields and Cashner definitely have value, especially given how little is going to be on the free agent market.
