Is a check swing reviewable on replay? Also, are there any good reasons why the 1B or 3B umpire should NOT call every checked swing? If replay was added to get calls right then MLB should adjust this rule as well. The whole concept of allowing the HP umpire to call them contradicts the “getting the call right” theme.

How much of Joc’s struggles should be attributed to a .218 2nd half BABIP?

Paul Swydan: Obviously a good bit of it. His BB and K %s have remained basically static. But the drop in his BABIP doesn’t explain the drop in his HR rate, and it’s also a little weird how he’s going oppo more often (11% more often). He’s not as good as he was in the first half nor is he as bad as he has been in the second half, but there is a good chance he is going to be streaky like this.

Paul Swydan: Also notable is that his soft % was 14.9% in the first half and it’s 31% in the second half.

Not a pure prospect question, but definitely one about an exciting young player. Should the Jays have any apprehension about having Marcus Stroman return to the rotation in a few weeks if his rehab goes well?

Kiley McDaniel: The answer to any question about returning from an injury is1) they should be careful to not risk his future in coming back to soon
2) they know way more about his body than I do, so I can’t tell you much more than you already know

Were he eligible, where would Javier Baez fall in your rankings?

Kiley McDaniel: I was always low on him–I think I put him in the teens a few years ago and people were telling me I was crazy to not put him in the top 5. He’d be a 50 or 55 at this point but I haven’t really thought about him much since he lost prospect eligibility and everyone I’ve talked to about him said he hasn’t made any adjustments…and makeup/coachability/attitude concerns are the reason I’ve always been the low one on him

Nice Crawford piece this morning. Do you think he can be a valid top 5 SS for next couple years? or is he sell-high worthy in dynasty leagues?

Eno Sarris: His personal batting coach left town and he took off. He’s now adjusted and adjusted back in the same season, and he was in the bigs a little early because of his glove. I’d be comfortable with projecting him for 15-18 homers next year.

Dave Cameron: Has to be Nelson Cruz, right? Though I’m pretty sure that no one saw this coming. 34 year olds don’t generally put up a 180 wRC+ for the first time in their careers.
