Dave Cameron FanGraphs Chat – 2/25/15

11:42
Dave Cameron: Happy Wednesday. Let’s talk baseball for an hour or so.

11:43
Dave Cameron: The queue is now open, and we’ll start chatting at noon.

12:01
Comment From mtsw
Tell us what you think about the ESPN rankings of how “analytical” each pro sports organization is. The MLB rankings seemed to be “29 teams ranked by how often they reveal details of their front office to reporters and the Phillies at the bottom”

12:02
Dave Cameron: Ben Baumer, who did the MLB write-ups, isn’t a reporter. He worked for the Mets, and interacted with many of the people he listed. I thought it was pretty well done, and was mostly accurate in reflecting each organization’s efforts to embrace analytics.

12:03
Comment From PaKCman
So Ken Tremendous has to do a baseball analytics-themed sitcom next, right?

12:03
Dave Cameron: I realize I’ll probably get burned at the stake for this, but I watched one episode of Parks and Rec years ago, didn’t laugh once, and have never watched since.

Dan Szymborski FanGraphs Chat – 2/20/15

11:58
Dan Szymborski: It has begun.

11:59
Comment From Jaack
GO LORD IS IT MONDAY HOW DID I MISS THE WEEKEND.

11:59
Dan Szymborski: We rescheduled – I took McDaniel’s chat day so that one would be closer to the prospects release

12:00
Comment From George is Curious
I’ve read a number of writers saying to shy away from players who signed big contracts and joined new teams in the offseason. How much do you buy into that theory? Should guys like Sandoval, HanRam, etc. be expected to struggle the first few months getting acclimated to their new teammates and surroundings?

12:00
Dan Szymborski: I don’t really buy into the theory, though I don’t expect it to be true.

12:02
Dan Szymborski: After all, I know that players don’t exceed projections in the final years of their contract or the first years of contracts and if players with new contracts aren’t underperforming as a group (as it includes all the players who changed teams on big contracts) then if they’re underperforming in the first months, they have to also be overperforming in later months (or they’d be short of their projections)

Kiley McDaniel Prospects Chat, Top 200 Prospects Edition

12:05
Kiley McDaniel: I can’t start using catch phrases in the intro now, all these casual readers checking in for the first time will start expecting it. Gotta leave them wanting more.

12:05
Comment From Owen
I’m really mad about _______ being so low/not included on the list! Why do you hate my team?! LOUD NOISES!!!!!!

12:05
Kiley McDaniel: You were great in Wedding Crashers, don’t listen to what people say about your nose

12:05
Comment From Brian
Addison Russell was a 60FV on the Cubs list, now a 65 and #3 overall. As I cubs fan I love this, I get you broadened who you were getting information on for the top 200, etc. Any specific new information that raised your opinion/ranking on Russell? Or just general awesomeness?

12:06
Kiley McDaniel: No real new information. The Cubs list was early in the run and I knew Russell was behind Bryant, but didn’t have a great feel for how far or how the grades would dictate that. Turns out there weren’t many players between them.

12:07
Kiley McDaniel: That’s also the process that led to Ian Clarkin and Michael Taylor sneaking on the end of the list. Felt like just short of 50 FV, then I stacked up every player and they were both better than a handful of guys on the list…so they went on the list.

9:05
Jeff Sullivan: Hello friends

9:05
Jeff Sullivan: Welcome to unusual rescheduled Monday chat

9:05
