Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with importing, cleaning, and preparing of baseball datasets.
  • Assist with the design, development, testing and support of proprietary data collection and decision-support systems.
  • Design ad hoc SQL queries.
  • Assist with statistical modeling of baseball data.
  • Execute exploratory research and analysis as directed.
  • Review public research on a regular basis.
  • Provide support for important events such as the Rule 4 Draft, the trade deadline, contract negotiations and salary arbitration.
  • Support Baseball Operations, Scouting and Player Development with ad hoc requests.
  • Other duties as assigned by members of the Baseball Operations Department.

Position: Synergy Sports Cape Cod Video Scout

Location: Cape Cod, MA

Description: Synergy Sports is seeking qualified candidates to work as Video Scouts for the 2021 Cape Cod Baseball League season – the premier collegiate summer wood-bat league in the United States. Synergy Sports provides world-class video and analytics for baseball globally at all professional, collegiate, and amateur levels. Synergy Sports is the exclusive video provider of the CCBL to major league clubs. Cape Cod Video Scouts will track rosters, capture live multi-angle video footage from every game of the CCBL season, and upload video/data to the Synergy platform for client use. The position runs from June 12, 2021 to August 14, 2021 and will include hourly compensation.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage game day video and technology equipment for data capture.
  • Serve as Synergy liaison for Cape Cod teams.
  • Track and update rosters and player information.
  • Verify data accuracy and video quality.
  • Provide daily updates to staff and content partners.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of and strong interest in baseball operations, amateur scouting, or player development.
  • Proficiency with computers (Windows, Mac).
  • Experience with video equipment, including cameras, SD cards, tripods, and clamps is preferred.
  • Experience with Minor League or College baseball teams is a plus.
  • Strong work ethic, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation and housing on the Cape.

Primary Objective:

Essential Functions:

  • Evaluate, design, and implement sports science programming for the organization.
  • Collaborate and work closely with High Performance staff on athlete management and data collection protocols.

Position Overview:
The Data Engineer, Baseball Systems position will be a member of the baseball operations software development team, and is responsible for integrating, collecting, processing, and storing many sources of baseball data, as well as designing and building new data solutions. This position must be comfortable with on-premises and cloud solutions, and take the initiative to explore new optimizations and cutting-edge data technologies. This individual will work closely with the team’s data architect, analysts, developers, and other members of baseball operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Build leading-edge baseball solutions together with the software development team, analysts, and others on new and existing baseball systems
  • Build and maintain integration pipelines, often via an API or file-based, while also identifying areas of improvement and spending time to re-architect when required. Build and maintain infrastructure to optimize extraction, transformation, and the loading of data from various sources
  • Design, build, and maintain data warehousing solutions for the software development and analytics teams. Build and maintain tools for the analysts to enable more efficient and extensive data modeling and simulation efforts
  • Participate in key phases of the software development process of critical baseball applications, including requirements gathering, analysis, effort estimation, technical investigation, software design and implementation, testing, bug fixing, and quality assurance

Reds Add Bullpen Depth in Trades With Blue Jays, Astros

Over the last two days, the Reds have made a couple of small trades — acquiring Hector Perez from Toronto for a PTBNL or cash and Cionel Pérez from Houston for former South Carolina catcher Luke Berryhill — to bolster their bullpen depth. These are the latest in a series of transactions that are part of an obvious effort to pick up change of scenery candidates (Jeff Hoffman, the Perez(s), Art Warren), or players falling off the bottom of other rosters (Edgar Ernesto Garcia, Brandon Bailey) to try to create an above-replacement injury/COVID safety valve at the bottom of Cincinnati’s active roster and in the upper minors.
