Eno Sarris: I dunno. Catchers kinda suck year to year. I kinda just look for whomever is healthy and having a good year. It was a good year but he’s turning thirty, has a torn ACL and maybe meniscus, and probably should be valued as a .270/18 HR guy going forward.

Eno Sarris: And can you value him for the whole year?

Toki: What is going on with Renfroe? Is he for real or is this a mirage and once pitching adjusts good times are over?

Eno Sarris: I like that he’s not missing more than the power, which is not real useful in small samples. Maybe he won’t strike out 25+% of the time, which means maybe he can hit .250+ with good power. It’s also more likely he starts with the team next year, which is important.

Matt: Will the death of Jose Fernandez impact your Cy Young award vote?

Dave Cameron: I’ve spent a decent amount of time thinking about this over the last few days, and I continue to be of mixed feelings. On the one hand, Fernandez is a legitimate candidate, and we will never get to vote for him again; giving him the award would be a great way to say goodbye. On the other hand, I’m uncomfortable with the idea that an award for on-field performance should be determined by something like this, and think it’s not fair to Jose or the other contenders to decide my vote based on his death. In the end, I think I’m going to vote as if he was still alive, and not have it impact the ballot.

Tommy Lasordid: Considering the current health of both teams, should the Dodgers be considered favorites over the Nats?

Dave Cameron: I would say so, yes.

Spooks: This has been said in the past, but since I’m still holding on to a sliver of hope for the Mariners wild card, does Felix get the ball?

Jeff Sullivan: This is actually a really interesting question. Felix almost certainly isn’t the best starter on the team, not at this point. So you have to try to figure out the value of sentimentality, of trying to tell a story. Is there any sort of greater meaning to giving Felix the ball? Does it matter? How close is the balance between rooting for players and rooting for teams?

Dustin: Who farted more in the car, you or Cameron?

Q-Ball: While I think Bryant should be NL MVP anyway, I also wonder if Seager’s chance are hurt by the fact that voters know he is getting another major award. (NL RoY). Do you think it works that way?

Eno Sarris: Yes I do think it’s that way. Shouldn’t Rick Porcello be a shoo-in for AL Comeback Player? Do you think he’ll win it?

Jimmy: Hey Eno. I’ve been reading a lot about how the Cubs should order their rotation, specifically the first 3 games. What do you think they should do?

Eno Sarris: The only thing that might matter is what parks they’re playing in and the lefty/righty situation, i.e. in which park do you play Jon Lester?

Dave Cameron: Happy Wednesday. It’s my first 9 am chat. This is weird.

Dave Cameron: But I made to Oregon, and so this is the new normal.

Dave Cameron: Let’s talk some baseball.

Bork: Do you think Porcello and (moreso) Happ will get Cy Young votes based on their high win count? Or is the BBWAA past that by now? I’m not saying that they don’t deserve the Cy Young, but wondering how many of the voters will use W/L as their reasoning.

Dave Cameron: I think the days of W-L record being the primary factor in the voting are over. ERA is now the #1 thing voters look at. But I do think, since there’s no clear cut #1 candidate, Porcello will get votes that he wouldn’t have gotten otherwise if he didn’t have such a sparkly record.

Jeff Zimmerman: I think Moncada is the better athlete, so he will be the better athlete at 3B

Paul Swydan: Well, I don’t know enough about Bregman’s athleticism, but based on Moncada’s higher prospect standing I’d have to think him.

Dominik: there is definitely a trend for smaller guys aiming for higher launch angles regarding the home runs. however there are also quite a few guys who are not good hitters despite the Hrs. trumbo, k. Davis, Frazier, Kemp, odor, Duvall and pujols all have below average OBP and 30+ hr. Tomas and Bruce will join them, and Grandy, Miller and Jones probably too. obviously it worked for some like Altuve, Betts but could some of the smaller guys like Galvis actually lose production by selling out for power? or do they still gain?

mtsw: One of the fastest-growing TV genres is “Slow TV.” Examples include a 7 hour video showing the view out the window of a train ride in Norway. Should baseball embrace the slower-paced, leisurely aspect of the game rather than chasing “The MTV generation demands constant stimulation” theory?
